      ... the thing is ....musical greatness must not necessarily be reduced to a simple and crude question of greater or lessor .... but ... rather ... to what degree did the music being listened to penetrate the soul of the listener and to what effect ... when it comes to the arts ... why must the "stench" of competition always attempt to assert itself above any and all other considerations related to the arts? Might it not have something to do with the inadequacy that exists within the lives of those who insist upon competition as a measure of success?

    FUNFACT.
    Their Momma thought her 3 kids who actually shared 1 bedroom together were playing the radio. She’s opened their door to realize it was them singing. Barry was 9 and the twins were 6. 😊
    She was amazed at how good they sounded.

    Bee gees fun fact... what do these 3 massive #1 hit's by the Bee Gees ( Tragedy, Too Much Heaven & Shadow Dancing) all have in common? Not only were they all #1 hits from 1979 but they were all written on the same afternoon! it's crazy when you even think about how talented these 3 brothers were!! The harmonies & Barry's falsetto are second to none! There will never be another group like this again........EVER!

    Barry Gibb had a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon. Barry said he just discovered Notes has Numbers. He said none of the Bee gees could read music. They were not trained and did not know that they were not suppose to be able to harmonize at certain pitches. He said they all would try to match sounds around them or if one brother started a sound the others would try to match it. He said they recorded the music first and then wrote Lyrics on the spot in the studio. Sometimes one Brother might have an idea. He said they were very spontaneous.

      I'm like that with meters, people seem to be able to break things down into time signatures but I just hear the rhythm, so when people get lost listening to someone like Tool I'm just in the music already and don't get why they need to number it out for it to make sense. I mean, written music was transcribed after people knew music, as instructions to tell people remotely how to play it, so starting with written music first seems naturally backwards for humans I think.

And as a white dude, I am damn proud that a lot of black reactors have taken in the Bee Gees as Honorary Soul Brothers, and definitely not offended when they wouldn't picture them as white. There are clear differences in our culture, and when they can seamlessly integrate without question, its a beautiful thing.

    The Bee Gee’s wrote & released Too Much Heaven in 1978. It was already topping charts world wide when they performed it, Jan. 1979, for The United Nations Children's Fund fundraiser, “Music for UNICEF.” They then donated all royalties and the publishing rights, making them the 1st band to make such a donation to charity. So, UNICEF gets paid, not just from sales of the Bee Gee’s version, but from any covers or other use (any version used in commercials, movies, TV, etc). The last official tally I saw was 2011, saying UNICEF had received more than 10 million British pounds from it, for emergency food & healthcare. Elsewhere someone said it hit 20 million as of 2019 (but I haven’t found an official source for that).

    You have just scratched the surface. The first time The bee Gees acted as the Bee Gees was in 1958 where they came up with the name. Since then they have had 22 studio albums, the last one in 2001. Maurice died in 2003 and Robin in 2012. The songs you reacted to is from their R&B/Disco with the falsetto period from 1975 to 1979. They are so much more than that.
    Try a song from their early periode like "To Love Somebody (1967)", "IStarted A Joke (1967)", "Words (1968), "I've Gotta Get A Message To You (1968)" or "First Of May (1969)".
    Or maybe songs from their later period like "You Win Again (1987) "One (1989)", "Alone (1997)", "For Whom The Bells Toll (1993)" or "Wedding Day (2001)"
    They have written more than 1000 songs between them so there is enough to look into.

    • @snowflakehunter
      @snowflakehunter 3 года назад

      Actually, that is incorrect. The group was first known as "The Rattlesnakes" and then later local Australian DJ Bill Gates (not that one) renamed the brothers' group to the BG's (later changed to 'Bee Gees') after his, speedway promoter Bill Goode and Barry Gibb's initials.
      Thus, the name was not specifically a reference to 'Brothers Gibb', despite popular belief.

    • @beegeesbuster1
      @beegeesbuster1 3 года назад

      @@snowflakehunter You are partly correct because it was in the UK before they went to Australia that they called themselves Rattlesnakes. When they went to Austrailia and meet Gates and Goode they found out there was a lot B and G's around (also Barbra Gibb and Barry Gibb) so they settled for BG's as can be seen on the clothes from video's from that time. They as you said the corrected the name to Bee Gees which they later in interviews said that it also could stand for Brothers Gibb but it was not how it started.
      But never mind we essential agree so no worries :-)

    Sir Barry Gibb's falsetto is legendary - but, all three brothers were able to pull that off.
    (Check them out in "Nights On Broadway", performing live in "The Midnight Special", presented by Natalie Cole - Nat King Cole's daughter...)
    These three Musical Geniuses were able to musically adapt to each decade that they faced as a group - and they brought us close to 50 years of magic...💖💖💖
    (They started performing when Sir Barry was ~11, and the twins Robin and Maurice were ~8 years old - in the mid 1950's...)

    That is not the only pitch Barry and his other 2 brothers sing. They're fantastic! The wrote, produced and sang their music. Such great talent they all had. Including his younger brother, Andy Gibb, that also sang but passed away prior to the 2 brothers here who are twins. (on each end). Sad to see Barry on an interview alone. He has one sister. His dad played drums, his mother use to sing. They are and always will be the greatest! They're loved by millions!

    In their early career in England. The producers wouldn’t let them record certain songs because they sounded “too black”. They couldn’t have these white boys sound black. They moved to the US and changed production team.

    The Beatles could never touch this. The Bee Gees’ best is “Fanny Be Tender with My Love” and “You Should Be Dancing” imho.

    I get a kick out of young people liking music from my day, I also find it really really cool when black people get surprised when they find out they got caught by surprise by them them blue eyed soul catchers. I always felt that in general white listened to music but black people felt music. I am 67 yrs old and just love this reaction stuff. it's so cool.

    Barry didn't start out as falsetto. I saw a video where he said they were in the recording studio. They were all asked if they could sing high. Barry cupped his hands around his mouth, and began to sing. According to Barry, Robin said, "Yea, that's it! Keep singing like that!" And the rest is the Bee Gees.
    I just love it when the younger generation shows a huge smile with the first few words of their songs. The Brothers Gibb ...... Professionally known as The Bee Gees
    Maurice (on the right - pronounced Morris) ) had a congenital bowel defect, i.e he was born with it, not an undiagnosed heart defect. Maurice's heart attack was caused by restricted blood flow to his heart because of his twisted intestines. His bowel then burst and flooded him with toxins. He passed in 2003. Robin (on the left) had the same bowel defect, but it was diagnosed in time to operate and save him from the same fate as his twin, Maurice. During that operation they discovered his colon cancer. He passed in 2012. Andy, who had his own successful career, died of Myocarditis, which is inflammation of the muscle surrounding the heart, not a heart attack. He passed in 1988, at the age of 30. Barry (in the middle) said, "I am the last man standing." Barry is the eldest of the brothers. He is 74 years old. On September 1, 2021, he and his wife, Linda will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, which is also Barry's birthday. They have 5 adult children, and 7 grandchildren. The Bee Gees have sold over 220 million records worldwide. They were also writers for other musical artists. Barry just completed a new project called 'Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook.' It is very nice! Get comfy, relax and enjoy the music! On a side note, their sister, Lesley is the first born. She was 77 in January, 2021. She lives a quiet life with her family.

    Their was a fourth brother Andy. He went to a solo career and was becoming huge to but he died of a cocaine overdose. He was just as good as these three. The only only one still alive is the oldest brother who did lead vocals. All four were very talanted singers.
