I've played several UHD disks on the Sony without issue, then I try Inception and it starts skipping at one particular scene. I google the issue and all answers seem to say the same thing. The Sony sucks, can't do triple layer, get a Panasonic etc. Crap, I don't really want to spend a few hundred pounds on a new Blu Ray player. Then I saw your video, I have to admit I was skeptical that these settings would be the culprit, but I figured it can't hurt to try. It worked! You're a bloody legend mate, saved me a few hundred pounds and lots of stress!
That's great to hear! And thank you so much for the £5.00 Super Thanks. I really appreciate that. I have found that the 4K technology can be a little quirky sometimes, but overall, I've had a really good experience with my Sony using these settings. You definitely should not have to spend hundreds more on a player just to get the discs to play correctly. I'm really glad to hear these settings worked for you as well. And I totally get it... I was skeptical myself when I first heard about these settings. But sure enough, they really seem to help... and I've not really had many -- if any -- problems with my Sony since I started using those settings myself. Thanks again for the support!
@@TheOriginalFuzz Now we just have to convince Sony to make these default, so that their products won't get a negative reputation, with _proper instructions_ on the times using slightly different settings may help (but warning it can cause the freezing/stability issues)
I've got the X700, and it has always worked fine... With the exception of several 4k discs. I've wiped them, checked for scratches... All of that. And still had problems with freezing in the same places on my 4k discs. I was just about ready to spend several hundred dollars on a more expensive player, when I started searching and found this video. I followed the steps and reset my player as directed per this video. And now the problem is solved! Unbelievable that it would be something so easy to fix. Thank you so much for sharing.👍
Good. What you just said actually shows that the problem is with the discs and not with the player. Any time an issue happens "at the exact same spot" on a disc, you can rest assured that the disc is the problem and not the player. Every time the player hits that defect in the disc, it hangs/crashes. There is error correction code built into these players but if the data stream coming off of the disc is too corrupted (for any reason) there is a limit to what ANY player can do about that.
Great video. I watched this video before I bought the player. I bought the player 2 weeks ago. Used your settings. I have watched many 4k discs and not one has froze yet. I have it set up with my new Sony 77" A80L OLED. Thanks again.
The skips while watching my brand-new LOTR 4k on a brand-new 700 were driving me insane. Tried changing the settings to no avail, then cleaned the discs using microfiber cloths and that fixed the problem. I learned a lot from your video. Thank you.
YOU, Sir, are my hero! I was planning on taking my player back and spending an extra $200 because several movies were skipping and freezing at the same time every time. This fixed everything!!!
That's great to hear! if you have any other issues, feel free to also check out my other companion video where I focused on issues that sometimes happen with the discs themselves (where they might need to be cleaned, etc.): ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html Thanks for watching!
I have to add my thanks to this video for finally resolving the freezing issues I was experiencing with my X800M2 player. Prior to watching it a few weeks ago, nearly every disc (4K, Blu Ray and even DVD) was freezing about 3/4 of the way through watching, which seriously detracted from the viewing experience. In fact, it wound me up so much that I seriously considered getting a new player. Thankfully, the guidance in this video fixed the problem. Many, many thanks.
Just got my new X700 and both Dune and the Batman have a bad freeze about 2 thirds through and then start skipping after I re-seat the disc. Will try these settings now
So my Top Gun Maverick 4K disc froze. I have a Sony X700. I changed the settings you suggested. The movie did freeze up once again in the same spot, BUT the player was able to get past it! Previously, it would freeze and my only option was to turn it off and on again. But after changing the 2 settings, my player was able to move on after a brief freeze up. I also just watched your disc cleaning video and will try those microfiber cloths. Many thanks as I’m seeing improvement!
That sort of agrees with my wild guess theory that the player has memory to overcome any small glitches (disc errors/refussing on the layer changes that are slow) but trying to do Upscaling and whatever Cinema Conversion is doing use up that memory so it's not available when needed resulting in a freeze. Turning the settings to those described allow the player to use that memory/processing for error correction rather than the setting functions.
TheOriginalFuzz you are a genius. I have had my Sony X700 for 15 months now. I have yet to encounter any problem with any 4K disc played through it. However last month I tried playing both Kill Bill Volume 1 and 2 blu ray disc and both froze once reaching the main menu screen. Applied both adjustments you reccomended in settings and both disc play correctly now. Thank you!
My Sony X800M2 has been the bane of my existence for years. I'm still a big movie collector, extolling the virtues of physical media over streaming at every opportunity, etc... so imagine my embarrassment when, nine times out of ten, the player freezes. I've been about ready to toss this thing out the highest window for a while. I'm glad I stumbled upon this video. I'm gonna change these settings immediately and see if it resolves the issues I've been having. If it works, you're an absolute hero.
It’s so stupid that it’s a problem on 4K players. Standard Blu-ray NEVER had this issue at all. I’ve put discs all scratched to hell and it would play without issue.
@@damonappel My apologies, I didn't realize that anybody would be waiting with bated breath for an update on my RUclips comment. I figured anybody with reason to be invested in whether this works or not would be somebody who owns this machine and would likewise be capable of testing for themselves. In my case, I'm embarrassed to admit that in the two months since I changed the settings, I haven't had a whole lot of time to sit down and watch many 4K discs from start to finish (as would be required to properly test, since the freezing-in my case, anyway-typically occurs only after extended playback of a 4K disc). I travel a lot for work and am often away from home for weeks at a time. For what it's worth, I have found time to watch three blu ray releases and they all played without issue. But I don't think standard blu rays were particularly problematic in the first place-only 4K discs to my recollection. When I have the opportunity and the inclination to watch a movie that I have on 4K disc, I will report back. But even then, I wouldn't be convinced the issue is completely resolved until I'm able to get through a few without incident. With my overwhelming schedule, that could even mean a couple more months. By then, I'm sure you could test for yourself if you have any real reason to know whether this works or not. Or I guess you could just continue trolling RUclips, posting snarky comments with emoji like a bratty teenager. Whatever works for you.
The 4k discs are the ones freezing, not regular blu ray or dvd. There's no need to use 4k upscaling on a 4k disc. Use the upscaling on everything but 4k blu rays. @@jc2478
You're an amazing human. Being. I had both of these settings on auto. I have the X700. My problem is slightly different. Only while watching Blu rays pr 4ks the screen and sound will go black on my 85 sony 4k TV. Then come back after 5 seconds while the movie continues to play on... not freezing or skipping. I pray this is the fix I've needed. Thank you and I'll let you know if all is better. God bless!!
Thank you so much! I'm not really sure what would cause that problem, but maybe just try rebooting your entire system (TV, audio, etc.) when that happens, in case it's some kind of glitch? Thank you for watching and for the kind words!
@ronthorn3 No, my friend. It happens with regular Blu rays all the time. As well as 4k movies with and without Dolby Vision. It almost seems like it happens slightly more with regular BDs. It drives me up the wall. I actually bought a new Panasonic 4K player and hooked up to my Onkyo receiver. Did it as well. I'm 95% sure the receiver has a EARC problem. 2 different players, same issue. TV works fine on its own streaming. Only blackouts during disc play through receiver
Absolutely excellent! I just purchased a 800m2. I was worried. I am thinking that the upscaling on my LG C4 new still on its way to me would be better than a 5 yr old blu ray player anyways. Agree? Thank you so much.
Australian viewer here, thanks heaps for those settings tips! I have a Sony UBP X-700 player and these freezing issues happen from time to time on some discs. I understand it does pay to clean new 4k discs with a microfibre cloth before playing because residue from the manufacturing process is left behind - but I'm positive now it's the settings. I know for sure on my player, that 4k upscale is ON and Cinema conversion mode is AUTO, so I'll be changing those pronto! Your tips are much appreciated. James
Thank you Fuzz Just bought a Sony 42inch Oled tv and a sony X700 4K player was having so many problems with a lot of 4K discs this has been a blessing to know, In Australia we don't really have the problem that I hear you have in the states with your 4K discs must be were their manufactured as well this really should not happen in this day and age when you pay so much for these 4K movies. In Australia prices for these discs are crazy and we don't really get many special features on these discs as well, but I am so glad for amazing people such as your self to help us 4K movie lovers to better experience this amazing format.
Thanks for watching and weighing in! I think part of the problem is that there's just a lot more information crammed onto a 4K disc than we ever got with blu-ray or dvd. So I think the density of data on the disc makes the technology a little more quirky in general, which is what I mean when I say 4K is not a perfect technology. Most of the time, I don't really have problems. But little glitches can still happen from time to time, even under the best conditions... just due to the nature of the tech.
Great suggestion but I'll only be changing these settings when I'm having trouble with a 4k disc, because I just tested these settings out on a DVD and the upscaling was iffy and the cinema conversion mode set to video was causing frame drops every once in a while. BTW I recommend 4k upscaling Auto2 for anyone using a TV brand other than Sony. These settings do make standard DVDs look a lot better.
Playing 4k discs seem to do much better after the system changes but still get hung up here and there. Definitely moves along quicker now, before it would just freeze and eventually reset to the main menu. These setting changes have helped but are still too much to be dealing with with a player thats supposed to be made for this. If I buy a 4k player it should by default be able to play 4k discs without any issues. Gonna eventually get a different brand but for now this fix has helped alot. Thank you ❤
No problem - thank you for watching and commenting. I'm glad this helped a bit. I totally understand the frustration. Though keep in mind a lot times if there's an issue, it's more likely the due to something with the disc. At least, that's what I've found. So I always check my brand new discs and make sure there's no dust or debris or smudges or anything on them, and if there is, gently wipe them down with a micro fiber cloth. You might be surprised to find that brand new 4K discs are not always as immaculate looking as we'd expect. I made a companion video to this one focusing on the issues with the discs themselves (QC in the manufacturing, etc.) and best cleaning practices. Here's the link if you're interested and haven't already seen it: ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html
Sony!!!! WTF?! Why all these issues? Used to be so dependable. Sony should do an update to automatically fix these issues. GREAT VIDEO! THANKS FOR HELPING PEOPLE WHEN SONY DON’T. I was strongly leaning to buy this 4K player. I’ll be looking for a different brand.
If you'd rather not mess with Sony, then your best best is probably going to be the Panasonic 4K players. Either the Panasonic UB420 or the UB820 (I have a UB820, very solid player). Thanks for watching!
@@Moe-dm5bp No problem! Happy to help. And be sure to double-check the specs on each of those... if I remember right, I think only the UB820 has Dolby vision (the 420 may just be HDR10 and HDR10+). So if your TV is Dolby Vision-compatible and you want to take advantage of DV, then the UB820 would be the way to go. But it is the more expensive of the two models. BTW, the blu-ray-to-4k upscaling on my Panasonic UB820 is really good! And it's a very reliable player. Tons of features with image and subtitle configuring. It has an HDR optimizer that is very handy for getting the best image, especially for lower-end to mid-range 4K TV models.
Thank you very much ! Bought X800M2 and some freeze with 4K BlueRay disc, since apply your setting no freeze, very happy happy, merci beaucoup de France 🇫🇷 🇫🇷🇫🇷
Definitely gonna try this on my X700M. I take very special care of my discs so it was frustrating that I have brand new discs freezing up and then the only online advice I’d get is “make sure your discs are clean!”… thanks for the tips!
Completely worked for me on a pesky "Van Helsing" disc that consistently 'stuck' in 3 different places, refusing to move ahead unless I manually choose a chapter that was passed the glitch! Your work around seemed to solve the issue for now. Thank you!
Thank you for this. I've had the X700 for a few years now, and it locks up with every layer switch, the latest being Dune Part Two. After applying your settings, the scene where the layer switch takes place played flawlessly.
I read that after you update the software, shut off all things wifi/network related. It is my understanding that there's really no need for internet connectivity while playing a disc, and it's this constant type of connectivity that may cause freezing & skipping as well. I believe doing this has helped out a lot for me. I'm also now going to use your suggestions as well to hopefully fully eliminate the issue.
That's an interesting point. I don't usually keep my players connected to the internet unless I'm doing an update, and I seldom have problems with my players. So it's possible that could be a factor. Thanks for watching!
I'd already had upscaling turned off, but also changed the HDMI setting to 4:2:2 instead of 4:4:4 and the Conversion setting to Video as you suggested. This seems to have workes. It was able to get the criterion Citizen Kane 4K to stop skipping at a couple of parts. Gonna keep an eye on it with other discs...
Thank you ! I was having problems with skipping and freezing on Audio CDs and on Super Audio CDs on this Sony Blu Ray Player (my primary usage)…and this 4K Upscale Setting fixed the issue. I wasn’t expecting that for the audio problem but it worked! Thanks again
I also have the X700. One other thing on the screen settings for those of you that have Dolby Vision capability on their TVs, and for 4K discs that have the dolby vision option (not just regular HDR): You must select "Dolby Vision Output" to On. The X700 does not automatically switch to this mode if the 4K disc has that capability. Along the same lines, you must turn the Dolby Vision setting Off on all regular blu ray discs; and also turn it Off on 4K discs that only have regular HDR encoding.
I have never seen an issue and have done extensive back and forth to make sure. I have read that Dolby Vision is backward compatible and with it having wider capability why would it do anything bad to the source? You don't have to turn HDR 10+ off. Just don't see the point. Even stuff like The Dollars trilogy or Night of the Living dead with no HDR has zero problems with it.
The information I conveyed is a summary from the experts at the Sony 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player Owners group. They go into this many times: "Turn Dolby vision on only for dolby vision movies." "For [regular] blu rays and DVDs, dolby vision output should always be off as it makes image darker and causes retention and compression artifacting causing much worse image quality."
i learned this when i turned dolby vision on when i first got it and had no image on the discs i was putting in. My intuition told me it must have been the dolby vision setting i turned on and when i turned it off that was confirmed. Now i just turn it on before i pop in a dolby vision disc.
@@tchpse1 in theory I guess...in reality, not my experience at all. Again, extensive back and forth. If course I have a Sony Z9D so brightness is never an issue. Oh to be clear I don't use regular DVD or blurays in my 4K player. They can't take the hjgher dynamic range without looking funny. The lighter areas break apart like crazy. My original post was referring to 4K discs only.
That's great to hear! Thanks for watching and subbing. If you have any other issues moving forward, check out this other companion video I did that focuses more on the factory quality control issues with new 4K discs and disc cleaning. Between these two videos, I think most freezing/skipping issues are usually resolved easily enough. ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html
You were right when you said I was opening up a can of worms by getting into 4K BluRays. I’ve watched other videos of yours and I’ve ordered “2001: A Space Odyssey” as per your recommendation of it being a great 4K transfer. It should come from Amazon on Saturday with my replacement for “Back to the Future” the ultimate trilogy and “American Graffiti”. I’ll have to watch my money spending now for sure. I won’t replace every DVD or Blu Ray in my collection of about 1000 movies with 4K versions, but I’ll definitely try to get most of my favorites in 4k. And, I’ll be looking at the 4k’s price vs the Blu Ray price when I buy anything new now. There aren’t many 21st century movies that I like anyway. It’s a short list for sure. My favorite movies and tv shows are those from the 1950’s to the early 2000s. Nothing on network tv is worth watching anymore. For me, the best movie made in the last 20 years is “Top Gun: Maverick”. I already have the BluRay, but I might be ordering both Top Gun movies in 4k someday.
You say you won’t replace older movies, but you will. lol. I think I bought ten 4K’s this week. I just upgraded to a Sony TV a couple weeks ago from a Vizio M series 4k and now I am experiencing 4K Blu-ray in a whole new light. Can’t believe I used that Vizio for so many years. Pretty sure Sony has me as a customer for life now.
@@dishsoap1 You’re right! I have ordered the three “Man with No Name” Clint Eastwood westerns this week. This makes about 12 4K movies I’ve bought since getting the new Sony X700. These are some of my favorites so I’m not surprised that I bought them. It’s those movies I bought over 20 years ago and probably only watched once or twice that I don’t think need to be replaced with 4Ks. My Sony X700 with my Philips 4K TV upgrades the picture for a regular DVD good enough for them.
Thanks! I found your channel here when I was looking for solutions to those freezing & skipping issues, and you seem to have solved my problem. Glad to have found you! Cheers!
I've got brand new X800m2,didnt had any problem with freezing yet.Anyway i switched off 4k upscalling and put cinema conversion on "Video".I dont know, maybe its placebo effect but it looks like black level has improved and colors are punchier when i wath 4ks on my projector.Thank you for the video
I don't really watch DVDs much anymore, so I very seldom put one in my players. My view is that there's only so much one can do with DVDs, just due to low(er) resolution. That said, I know some people are often more tolerant of DVD than I am, and I have heard a few people suggest they did like the 4K upscaling on the Sony when playing DVDs... some have said they think it makes the DVDs look better. So you may want to give it a try, activate the 4K upscaling only when playing DVDs, and see what you think of the picture quality. But overall, I'd say you're probably ok to just turn off the upscaling on your player for DVDs and let your 4K TV handle the upscaling. Maybe even try it both ways, and just see which image you prefer. Hope this helps a bit.
Thanks so much for posting this!! My Sony freezes often! Tonight I was watching the 4K for Halloween III and it froze! After cursing Sony and swearing next time to buy a Panasonic, I Googled the issue and found your video!! Just changed my settings! Fingers crossed! Thanks again!! 👍
No problem! Appreciate the comment. And if you haven't already, check out this companion video too about the discs themselves. Sometimes you have to clean even new discs. I hope these tips help! Thanks for watching: ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html
Awesome video! Unfortunately the settings did not fix my issue with skipping and freezing along with cleaning my disks. Any opinions on the Panasonic 450 that just became available in the us?
Oh wow I didn't realize Panasonic had released a new unit. I think it's the first time they've released a new model since like 2018. I don't know much about that specific unit, but I can tell you I'm very happy with my Panasonic UB820, so I suspect the 450 is probably a very solid unit as well. It appears to be an entry-level model for 4K. But Panasonic makes good players. I'll probably even buy one of those new 450 units myself at some point, just to have an extra player and future proof my collecting hobby. Thanks for letting me know.
Thank you so much for the advice. The second setting you mentioned on my Sony player, video and film: auto or off. Well I changed that setting and I can now finally watched disc two in the deluxe Star Trek The Motion Picture set. That disc never played correctly which originally had me sending it back for a replacement. Only now to find out it was my player! Thanks again!
No problem! Glad to hear it helped! Sometimes there are legitimate issues with the discs themselves (like QC issues during production, etc.), so keep that in mind for the future if you run into any problems. There have been titles I've had to return/replace. But it doesn't happen too much. This video was a companion video to another one I did a few months back, talking about some of the other issues we've been seeing with the discs themselves (and about cleaning the discs with micro fiber cloths). But between these two videos, I think most issues we encounter with 4K discs can be pretty easily resolved. Here's the link to the other video if you're interested. My x800m2 worked fine for 2 years, then non stop freezing issues. I boxed it up after lots of troubleshooting with mixed results and now use my PS5 to play my 4K & Blu Ray discs without any problems. I have a 2018 Samsung 4K tv, which is on the lower end for quality, so it looks fine like it did on my x800m2. If I ever think of switching players I'll try this solution. Thanks.
Thank you for the video! I bought the 800m2 for downstairs which came in today and upon installing I used these settings to prevent future freezings etc! I’ve tried 3 4k blu rays (Robocop, Enter the dragon and pulp fiction) and the picture quality looks stunning despite having a LED tv
That's great to hear! I'm glad this video was able to help a little bit. The X800 is a solid unit from what I've seen. Great 4K choices too, btw. You can't go wrong with any of those on 4K (especially Robocop and Pulp Fiction... they look amazing on the format). Thanks for weighing in on this.
The video was a bit long for the solution BUT it worked! Thank you for the hack I was really sad when I started watching my Bladerunner 2049 4k that I got for Christmas and it froze on me. But now it works!!!
Great to hear! Thanks for watching. It's usually either these settings or an issue with the disc itself. If you run into any other problems, check out this companion video I did that focuses on the disc side of the issue: ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html
Maybe the player settings revert in event of a power outage? Or, internet connection channeled reset of settings? Checked a brand new 4k disc which had prominent fingerprints! thanks
Yes that absolutely can happen sometimes. Occasionally the players get reset, and you may have to go in and tweak the settings again. But yes, sometimes there are quality control issues with new discs straight out the gate, so I always recommend people check their discs and clean them if necessary. If you haven't seen it yet, I made a companion video to this one where I focus on some of the issues we've seen with brand new discs and proper cleaning. Wow, thank you. Ive been looking for a solution to this for 2 years. Was watching Interstellar and when it froze at 2h:18m I looked this up, and it worked.
4K players and TVs are down right addictive! I bought my Sony X700M and now I can’t stop buying 4K BluRays half-priced on Amazon. I’ve got seven more coming from three different orders this month. The prices have been ridiculously low for some of my favorite movies. It may not take long to find most, if not all of my favorites on 4K. I’m still buying regular BluRays for the not so favorite movies. Example: I’m replacing my DVD-R of “Poltergeist” with a new BluRay, but I must have “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” in 4K now. “Smokey and the Bandit” has been a favorite since it was first released in theatres, so now I must have it in 4K. How deep is this “rabbit hole” I’ve dived into? My new Sony 4K player has literally been a huge inspiration for me to want again to look at my movie collection and get it all out of storage. My collection may not be as large as others have accumulated, but it’s probably more media than I have time to watch or listen to for the rest of my life. I’m never going to stop adding to it though. From audio cassettes to CD music and audiobooks to 4K BluRays, I’ll never get tired of physical media. This Sony player does a good job with the 4K upscaling(for me). But then I don’t know how good other players are because this is my first. You’ve been very helpful for me to learn how to use this player correctly. Now I need to control my urges to buy new discs! Some of the prices are simply too good to pass up. An estimated average of $12-$15 per movie. Some were over 50% discounted. As soon as I can, I’m going to bring all of my movies to the house from storage. I have another urge to make a new list of movies and tv shows on my computer. I had a list several years ago but it got outdated because I didn’t add to it for a while. That was a different computer too. I swear, it’s because I bought this player. All of my new urges. Thanks again for the great advice and suggestions in all your videos.
That's awesome man! I'm glad to hear you're having fun and getting into this stuff. And I'm glad to hear you're happy with your Sony player. Yes, it is a very addictive hobby. And yeah, you can find some really great deals on Amazon and from other places if you're not picky about having slipcovers or the collectible packaging. This is especially true of the major studio releases (as opposed to the smaller boutique label releases, which tend to be more expensive and collectible). While new studio releases may be a little pricey when they first come out, usually the prices will come down within a few months after release (and sometimes within just a few weeks). And you'll see different sales emerge throughout the year. I keep the titles I want the most in my "saved cart" on Amazon, and then I just scan through my saved cart every few days to see if anything I want has gone on sale. I own all the titles you mentioned in 4K... Poltergeist, Smokey and the Bandit, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (my personal favorite Spielberg film), and I think they're all great on 4K (although be prepared for a little grain with Close Encounters... there are a few scenes that some might consider a little "rough" looking. But it's all baked into the source). I know you just got the blu ray, but Poltergeist is actually pretty awesome in 4K too. You may eventually find yourself double dipping a bit. Like there are some titles I bought on blu ray a few years ago thinking I'd be good with those... but then I ultimately had a change of heart later on and still ended up upgrading to 4K anyway LMAO! The rabbit hole goes deep LOL! Anyway, glad to hear you're doing well. Thanks for your continued support of the channel!
@@TheOriginalFuzzI have the Sony x700 4k player. When a movie/show on a disc is widescreen, I must have the TV type setting on the player set to 4:3 normal letterbox to display widescreen. odd because my TV's are 16:9
I just finished watching a new 4K Blackhawk Down. I cleaned it before the first play. Even though it came from Amazon in a destroyed case and was loose inside the case, it played fine in my Sony X700M. All I had to do was customize the case insert to fit in a regular DVD case. I don’t mind that, since the 4K disc is not damaged by shipping. It’s now become a habit to clean every disc before playing, whatever the format.
I still have a relatively small 4k collection. About 80 discs compared to about 500 blu rays. Out of those 80, I've had issues with about a dozen. With blu ray, I think I had an issue with 2 tops. With that in mind, I'm to the point of just sticking with blu ray. They just work. I think the bulk of 4k issues comes down to quality control on the manufacturers part.
Thanks; I knew not to let it upscale but didn't know about the Cinema Conversion Mode setting. I have made the changes now and hopefully it'll solve the (vast majority of my) problems with skipping and freezing, especially, as you mention, around the second layer change on BD-100s. My *theory* is that the player has some short term internal memory to smooth out layer changes (I'm sure we all remember that DVDs had the statement "Layer change may trigger slight pause" on but as technology moved on players seemed to overcome this - maybe using some 'look ahead' and memory; well that's how I'd have done it!) and that these functions like Upscaling use that limited memory for their own purposes, which means that it's not there to deal with the refocussing at the layer change if the player has any trouble with a very slightly imperfect/unexpected layer depth. Like I say, only a guess, but if I'm honest, if your fixes work as I hope the reasons don't really matter!
I’m having that issue now. I just got the steelbook in and it freezes up at the end. Did yours also fail to display the main menu options. Sometimes I can’t even start the movie. Wondering if I should do an exchange for another copy.
Gained a new sub today! I purchased the new X800M2 today, waiting to pick it up. Solid video for the viewers that aren't savy enough to figure out on their own. I never EVER trust out of the box settings on anything. I usually spend an hour or so getting settings just right for my room and TV. The 4K upscaling, Auto1 is if you have a Bravia TV, Auto2 is for all other brands, but I agree leaving it off. One TERRIBLE thing about this video. Your movies behind you aren't alphabetical! lol I'm just OCD with that. Love the collection though!!!
Right on... thank you so much for watching and subbing. Appreciate it. I'm glad this was helpful. As for my movies, yes it's true that I am adamantly against alphabetizing my movies... it messes with my own preferred custom organization too much. But if you're curious to know more about the "method to my madness," feel free to check out this video I did a few months back going over my collection and how it's organized in detail. Here's the link if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/fQ1lPbwry5s/видео.html Thanks again for the support, and for commenting too!
@@TheOriginalFuzz Absolutely! My wife makes fun of me all the time for alphabetizing, it reminds me of the days of video rental stores! First movie we watched in the new player. Thir13en Ghosts. Memories and damn did it not only look good, but sounded great as well for the remaster 5.1 audio.
Thanks for the tips, I recently bought a Sony X700. Before I check my settings and change them I wanted to share what issues I've had and if they're similar to the types others had. In the first 25 min of one disc and at the end credits of another I pressed rewind then play and the player froze & crashed. I had to unplug the power cord and plug it back in to get the player and discs working fine again. On another 4K of an over 3 hour movie, it froze 2/3rds into the movie. I waited several seconds to see if anything happened, then I was able to rewind from the frozen point, press play and the rest of the movie played perfectly fine. I hope your setting tips fixes these from happening again.
@@TheOriginalFuzz I tried these settings and still had a couple issues with freezing, not as bad as before but there was still freezing for several seconds.
@@Horridfilms It may be an issue with the discs themselves and not necessarily the player. Sometimes even brand-new 4K discs can skip and freeze on occasion (unfortunately). So you may want to try cleaning the disc with a micro fiber cloth. I discuss these other disc and factory QC-related issues in this companion video (including best cleaning practices). You may find this helpful (if you haven't already watched it): ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html
@@TheOriginalFuzz Yes I watched it, and I obsessively wipe all my discs. What I tried was a factory reset & disconnecting the internet from the player, along with the settings you suggested. I've tried one 4K movie after that and it played perfectly. I hope the network connection was the main issue as I've heard others say the same thing and that it continues to play smoothly now.
@@Horridfilms Oh ok gotcha. Yeah come to think of it, I do keep my Sony disconnected from the internet. I can't remember if I've even ever updated it lol (at least, since first getting it). Well I hope it continues to work for you with no issues. Occasionally you may still get a bad disc or something that you'll have to return/replace. But usually everything runs pretty smoothly for me with no skips/freezes.
I have the X800m2 and have skipping on some discs so will try this. Just last night on a new Gladiator 4K disc I had skipping when watching the extended cut, around the 2/3 mark when he fights the lion-masked gladiator.
Have you ever had the thing where the menu on a 4K disc takes longer to load than it should, and it cuts off the opening piece of the menu if there is a cool intro transition? Same for hitting play, where it loads with a black screen for various seconds only to have skip forward a few seconds when the screen comes on?
I don't think I've had exactly that scenario happen to me. Thought I do seem to remember my Sony player glitching out a few times early on (like within the first 6 months of me owning it) -- it seemed frozen or stuck on a blank screen or something, and I had to unplug the unit power supply to get it to reset. But that only happened like 2-3 times total for me, and I've not had any issues with my player since. You may want to try updating the software in the player, if you've never updated it.
Thank you 😊. I just bought the fast and furious 10 movie collection 4k uhd. and tokyo drift and 6 were freezing i applied your fix to my x700m 2 and it worked like a charm.
I tired these settings adjustment and still have the same issues. Seems it happens in the same time stamp of the movies. Keeps freezing and skipping ahead
Yeah it might be an issue with the disc itself. More often than not, I've found cleaning the disc resolves most issues (unless there's like a scratch on the disc or something more permanent). But even brand new discs sometimes need to be cleaned. If you haven't seen this yet, here's a companion video I did focusing on the discs themselves and some of the QC issues we've seen on the format, cleaning the disc, etc. ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html
Well I don't have Dolby Vision capabilities myself (I have a Samsung 4K TV, and Samsungs are notorious for not having DV). So I can't really comment from first-hand experience. But I have heard from others that if you have DV turned on with a non-DV source, it can make the image look a little "off" and weird. I can't offer any specifics though. Probably best to just turn it off when you're not on a DV source. That's one thing I like about the Panasonic 4K players (like my UB820) over the Sonys -- everything is more "automatic" in detecting what type of disc it is, so you don't have to toggle DV on and off. Thanks for watching!
Buddy you are a legend. You earned that subscription! X700 here on a sony 77" oled and yup I back to back tested the same part of the same disk without removing the disk and bingo skip is gone also when i went back to enable the settings to verify and cant re-enable 4k upscaling because i have output resolution set to 4k. seems as if a update broke these incompatible settings ❤❤🎉
@codydively9017 Cody! It's great to see you. I think there's a misunderstanding here in how things went down. I assure you there was nothing nefarious going on here. I actually wasn't sure how or even if to give you credit when I made this, because all I had to go on was a single settings post in a PRIVATE Facebook 4K group that other people would have to join in order to even be able to see it (I didn't even know you had your own group for Sony 4K players... this is news to me). And because the only information I had about you was from a private FB group post, I wasn't sure if you wanted your real name outed on a public RUclips channel (meaning, when I'm in a private group, I respect people's anonymity). Not to mention, some of these Facebook groups keep getting deleted, and then your posts are gone. Believe me... I actually searched around wondering if you had a more "public" source for this info that I could cite, because I actually wanted to give you credit. But I couldn't find anything more public, so just left it vague and indicated that I found this info on social media. In retrospect, I probably should've reached out to you directly on FB and asked how or if you wanted me to handle this or credit you in this video. I'm sorry I didn't... This RUclips stuff is still a little new to me. Also keep in mind I never expected this video to gain any traction at all... I actually made this video just to help out my dad with his Sony player, to try and simplify things for him. I didn't expect this video to take off and be shared all over LMAO! For what it's worth, I have updated the description of this video to give you full credit... now that I know you're ok with it (and now that I know your RUclips handle). If you have a better, more public link to give me than the private Facebook group post link I've included in the description, I would love to be able to share it. Just let me know.
Thanks ! Im wondering if an infieior HDMI cable could cause same issue ? I think many 4k HDMI cables can't handle Dolby vision ect , 2.1 HDMI cables can be had for a few bucks . Update: I bought two fiberoptic HDMI cables for only $22 for the two shipped from eBay! Tada no more freezing and glitching with the ps4 or sound issues. Also so far my uhd player is working with no issues with uhd content.😁 And I didn't even shut off the upscaling ect !
I think that Cinema Conversion setting was about the only thing I hadn't changed before...probably scrolled past it without thinking. It apparently was the solution. I ran my Jaw 4K 45th Anniversary disc this afternoon without a pause, skip or freeze :) If I can run another movie successfully, I won't have to replace my player.
@@scytrax_official It seems to have...for the most part. But since I just bought a phono preamp last week, I'll not be spending and more non-essential money for a while regardless. I DID return a StudioCanal version of the 5th element to Amazon England for a refund. The original was sent to me from Australia. The picture was great (higher bit rate than the US version) but it kept freezing at a [articular point no matter what I tried.
Well your 4K TV will also automatically upscale DVDs too. Some people have said they liked the Sony upscaling when used for DVD, but I've always just found it easier to let the 4K TV handle all the upscaling. I've personally not been too impressed with Sony upscaling, but your own mileage may vary. You can always try turning it on in your player settings when you're watching DVD and just see what you think. The main thing here is to not have 4K upscaling turned on when you're watching a 4K disc.
@@TheOriginalFuzz Ah I see. Disappointing cause yeah I've heard people like it for DVD upscaling at least, some even said it was the best... Although I am in a weird use case. I actually can't get a TV size oled, but I have an Oled monitor that has Dolby Vision on it and that's how I'm running my setup currently until I can move somewhere else.
Hi, I was almost giving up on buying 4k disc because of the occasional freezing on 4k disc with the Sony 500 4k player, however will give this a go and hopefully it works better, thanks
i have a sony udp 1100es and i had a horrible experience with the Game of thrones set, 4k i did the changes in the settings and i also did the cleaning with the cloths and it appears to have fixed the problem do both micorfiber cloths and setting changes.
My Sony 800mk1 did this on regular basis. Usually freezing on start up then displaying no disc or unknown disc message. If it got through that layer change was a lottery. Checked the settings and changed them as per your advice Just sailed through 3 hours of apocalypse now so hopefully its working ok thank tou
I have just purchased the X700M player region free released by Dynastar for Amazon in Germany and I checked the freezing/skipping issue after 75/80 minutes playing several new UHD discs by Severin Films. The player is plugged to Xgimi Horizon Pro projector. I tried to setup the X700M settings as suggested here but the issue persists in my case. Are there any other suggestions to fix the issue please? I have also a question please: is necessary to play 75/80 minutes film everytimes for checking the issue or it is just enough to play some minutes before the freezing/skipping scene of the movie? It is stressful playing more than 1 hour everytimes in order to understand if the issue persists or not attempting different kind of settings and solutions. Thank you very much for the help!
Thanks for watching. It could be an issue with the disc itself and not the player at all. Sometimes even brand-new 4K discs have issues straight from the factory and need to be cleaned or what not. I did a companion video to this one where I discuss some of the other reasons for the skipping/freezing that are not related to the player itself. Check this out... this may help a bit: ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html
TheOriginalFuzz - I also have the 700 model, and I tried this, but it does not seem to have resolved the issue. I also made sure the other screen settings matched what was in the video. My discs are new, no spots or dust, so Im not sure what else to do. Any ot 9:48 her suggestions?
Sorry to hear you're still having problems. It's possible it could just be an issue with the disc(s). Even brand new discs sometimes have issues. I made a companion video to this one focusing more on the discs themselves, quality control issues, etc. (link below). I also have a Panasonic UB820 4K player, and I've even had a few discs give me problems on that unit (which many consider to be a bit of a gold standard for 4K players). It doesn't happen very often for me, but I have had a few instances where I had to return the discs and get a replacement, and the replacements ended up playing fine. So I feel like more often than not, there's something going on with the disc (these Sony settings aside). Thanks for watching and weighing in. Here's the companion video I made re: the discs if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html
Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, it's every 4k disc for me, so that's too much of a coincidence for me. All the discs I make sure are wiped clean, very much like how you describe in the other video you linked to. The majority of the discs I hold under strong lighting to see if there are any smudges, dust or scratches. Nothing. Sometimes, the discs play fine upon purchase, other times not. But in my experience, the freeze/skip happens 99% of the time, and it's usually around 2/3 through a movie.
@@GeerMan80 yeah if it's happening that often, then it probably is something with the player. I don't have those kind of problems with my Sony X700. However, there is one additional link I can provide. A guy named Cody in a Facebook 4K group originally gave me the inspiration for this video, but he expanded on the best settings to use more than I did in this video. He laid it all out in a private Facebook group that you would need to join in order to be able to see this post. But you might want to try the additional settings tweaks that he recommends. He says if you follow his settings to a T, you shouldn't have any more problems. Here's his post where he lays it all out: facebook.com/groups/1230562081155461/posts/1231231851088484/ I hope this helps a bit.
Quick update - ever since implementing the settings from the Facebook group post, I haven't had issues with my 4K discs! So apparently it's much more intricate in how it needs to be set up.
@@GeerMan80 That's great to hear! Yeah when I made this video, I was intentionally trying to keep it as simple and uncomplicated as possible (I originally made this video for my dad, to help him out when he was having issues with his Sony). So I only focused on the two biggest culprits for the issues (the 4K upscaling and the Cinema Conversion mode). But that's also why I included the additional FB group link in the video description... in case people were still having problems that the initial settings weren't able to resolve. I hope you're enjoying your 4K player! It's awesome that you were able to get these issues resolved. Thanks for the update too!
Got myself a copy of Avengers:Endgame 4K from Amazon. Played it and there were 2 points where the disc froze and skipped - disc was made in Mexico. Using the 2 tips in the video - I made the changes and restarted the player and played the disc again - the disc played flawlessly. Good settings tweak. Thanks for the awesome suggestion.
I have a Sony X800M2 and have freezing at layer changes and occasional random freezing. I will try these settings. The Panasonic 820 has no such problems.
Yeah give the settings a try. Most BD100 discs have run great on my X700, and I rarely if ever seem to have any issues when switching layers. I also have a Panny UB820, and don't really have problems with it most of the time... but it has frozen on me a few times with this weird blocky pixelation thing. I've read other Panny users reporting the same issue, and from what I understand, there doesn't appear to be a known fix for it. But fortunately, it's only happened a couple times. Other than that, the Panny has been a great player for me. I still give it the edge over my Sony, in terms of overall player quality -- but not by that much.
The upscale setting, you'd think that would only affect non-4k discs but it's almost always 4k discs that freeze for me.. People say it must be the disc but it's not. The discs are always brand new and even though they tend to skip on the same moment in the film, if you put the disc in and go straight to the scene, it works fine, but if you watch the film from the beginning, it skips when you get to that moment. That wouldn't happen if the problem was with the disc. I've even had it where a brand new, clean 4k disc goes onto the player, freezes on the first watch and somehow comes out the disc tray with a scratch.. It's also why bought my current player from a physical shop and got a care and repair plan. Now I have someone to go to if there are significant issues. Anyway, I have Just set my player to these settings and we'll see how it goes. Thanks for the tips. Much appreciated.
thanks for video ill do this befor i have problems in the future. Bought mine this morning but also i do recommend 24p being turned off i had issues with 24p settings on a ps4 thinking the disc was the problem when it was that so i might turn that off to

Great video. I’m going to try these tips. I had one brand new 4K disc freeze and one DVD did with it with this player, so it makes sense it’s a settings issue. One question: my audio went out on my Sony 4K player. Took the disc out, tried it again, put in a completely different disc, same thing. Unplugged it from the wall and it worked fine again. Are you familiar with what could cause the audio to randomly go out?
I have had audio go out a few times (not sure if it was the player or the audio system, etc.), but whenever that's happened, rebooting everything seems to solve the problem. I just chalk it up to a technology glitch, which can happen occasionally. Thanks for watching!
Hello, Greetings from Portugal/Europe! I didn't know your channel, but I'm already a fan. After seeing this video, and because I'm about to buy a Sony 4K Blu-Ray, I ask a question: Are the image and sound of the Sony UDP X800/M2 worth the €60 difference over the UDP-X700?... Apart from some functions, is there any difference in sound and image ?!?. Thank you !
No I do not think there's a huge difference between the X700 and X800 Sony Players. The image quality is about the same. So I think you would probably be better off saving yourself some money and just getting the X700. I have an X700, and it's been a great 4K player for me. I'm very happy with it. Thanks for watching!
My new X700 been having freezing issues when playing the latest Mission Impossible and The Flash. Froze around 1:45 to 2 hours mark. After changed the settings, still froze but it will pick back up and play again after about 5-7 seconds. I guess it just want a short intermission after 2 hours 😅. I might still exchange another unit to try.
It could be an issue with the discs, and not the player. Sometimes even brand-new discs need to be wiped off with a micro fiber cloth... Check out this companion video I did where I discuss the other issues causing freezes and skips. Thanks for watching! ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html
Also I just remembered - most people seem to suggest turning off any network settings and completely disconnecting the unit from the internet. Why did you not mention doing this in your video? Have you found it to have no effect?
Oops found another comment I missed lol... again, my apologies for the delayed responses.. I'm on the fence on this issue of having the players connected to the internet. I think the main reason people advise against connecting to the net is because some believe the firmware/software updates usually do more harm than good (and there has been some evidence of this). I'm not sure if I totally agree, but I've always left my Sony disconnected from the internet anyway. I can't remember if I've ever even done an update beyond when I first got the Sony... I may not have ever updated it. At the time, I think I probably figured it was running fine, so there was no need to update. But my Panasonic is a different story. That one I do have connected to the internet, and it has done a major update since I've owned it. Sometimes the updates can have bug fixes that actually improve performance. In my other response to your comment today, I indicated I had skipping/freezing on my Panny like 3 times in the past. Well, I haven't had any of those issues with it since I've done the update. All discs have played fine with no glitches. So like I said, I'm not sure what to think about that.
Just got the 800M2 after having the X700 and having a lot of probs. Had a disc skipping on Dolby Vision so followed the cleaning tips. I have a Bravia TV & Bravia mode includes Auto 1 which optimises HDR10 Disc picture. I’ll go with Cinema Conversion on video and see how it goes. Watched Superman 2 disc last night & it was fine
Turn off Auto 1 (and Auto 2) and leave this feature set to off. Assuming you have a decent TV, that will then deal with the upscaling rather than the player and in most instances will do a better job than the X700.
I have the Sony x800 and have issues with freezing discs. I tried your suggestions in the other video as well as the settings changes, but it did not help. Not all of my 4k discs freeze, but the one I've been working with today is Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. I really hoped these tips would work for me. Have you had anyone else mention they continued to have issues after trying these fixes? I still love your channel and think your content is great. Keep up the good work!
My guess is it would probably be some kind of issue with the disc in those cases. I feel like most of the time, it's usually something with the disc itself... maybe some issue that happened during manufacturing or something. But I also think 4K discs in general are just kind of a sensitive technology, so it doesn't necessarily take much to cause a problem (a little piece of dust or lint, a small smudge, etc.). I assume you've probably already cleaned the discs, etc. It could just be you ended up with a bad disc in a couple cases. I've had to return and replace a few discs that were problematic right out the gate, despite me having cleaned them with a micro-fiber cloth and the discs looking perfect. And when I did returned them, the replacements worked fine. I'm sorry I can't be a little more helpful in this instance, but I do very much appreciate you watching!
@@TheOriginalFuzz Oh you've been a great help.... I feel like this is one of those things very few people could answer with complete confidence because there are so many factors that can cause the freezing. As you have said, the 4k discs are just very persnickety. I did wipe the disc off with a microfiber cloth... twice. It likely is the disc and some flaw in the manufacturing process. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my comment as well as the videos you've made about this. I've just started watching your channel and have only seen a few videos, but I also loved you two videos of 10 must-own! movies and 10 more must-own! movies. 😃 I'm looking forward to watching more of your stuff. Keep it up! 🤩😍
I have a Sony X800M2 that's region free that I use for region B Blu Ray and all my DVD playback and I love the scaling on that model, again I don't watch 4k discs with it, for That I use my Panasonic 820 player which is far better with 4k disc in general but the DVD scaling isn't as good as the X800M2 to my eyes anyway. I know the x700 model uses a much slower and lower quality upscaler so I'm not surprised that some people are having issues. Great video
That's cool. Thanks for watching and weighing in. I have a Panny UB820 as well, and I have to agree, it's a great player. It has become my primary player, as it does seem to have a little better picture than my X700. But my X700 is multi-region modded, so it's been real handy for playing any Region B blu rays I encounter. I can't really comment on DVDs, as I don't really watch them anymore (except for maybe an occasional music documentary or something). But overall, I've been pretty happy with both units.
Hello Fuzz, how are you doing I just bought X800 I bought the player on 9/24/24 and this video is a year old is the problem's fix should I Waite to see if it happens to my player or just make the setting now on the player, please let me know
Yeah the settings still apply. At the very least, you definitely don't want to have the 4K upscaling turned on when you're watching a 4K disc. It could cause some periodic issues otherwise. I've always found it better to just leave it turned off, since your 4K TV will handle the upscaling anyway, by default. Thanks for the question, and I hope you enjoy your new player!
This seems to have fixed the issues I was having. Watched a few films in peace now without any freezing. What a relief! Thank you so much for this!

Have any skips in the last few months?
the settings being changed help the player ease over those faults in the disc @codydively9017

He's going to "change these settings immediately"...and then never post back to say if it worked for him or not. 🙄
I literally bought the player for upscaling. If it wont do it, it's going back to best buy.
The 4k discs are the ones freezing, not regular blu ray or dvd. There's no need to use 4k upscaling on a 4k disc. Use the upscaling on everything but 4k blu rays. @@jc2478
God bless you young man, you have no idea how close i came to tossing my player out the window ❤
Sounds like Dolby vision issues.
What is your thoughts on my question? Thanks
Thank you so much. Have two Sony UBP-X800M2 UHD BD Players and you saved my day friend. I'm now a happy camper!
James
Thank you so much! Just had a skipping pronlem watching Gladiator, did this, and now it works fine at the same scene!
Awesome! Great to hear. Thanks for watching!
@TheOriginalFuzz I have the same issues too, I will try it, but will it decrease the pic quality of 4K discs?
@@ThePandacub69 No it does not. The quality will still be the same.
@TheOriginalFuzz Thank you, appreciate it. I reset it and the pic quality is still as great, hopefully this will solve the pi freezing issue!
But little glitches can still happen from time to time, even under the best conditions... just due to the nature of the tech.
speak for yourself RE: In Australia :)
@@TheOriginalFuzz Thank you for the suggestion for the Panasonic. I’ll look into both you have suggested. Much appreciated! 👍🏼
No problem! Thanks for watching. I hope this helps.
That's great to hear! Thanks for watching and commenting!
💯 true
I had a problem with 4K of Red Dragon frezing and later on skipping... applied your measires and disc plays fine! Thank You
I'd already had upscaling turned off, but also changed the HDMI setting to 4:2:2 instead of 4:4:4 and the Conversion setting to Video as you suggested.
No problem! I'm really glad to hear it helped with the audio discs. Thanks for watching!
This is a great thing to note. I don't think a lot of people know this.
Wow you have fixed my skipping/freezing issue. That setting profile Literally works.
Thank you. Just purchased the 800 will make the changes at set up.
Thx for the help I just got the X700 watching a movie & it started acting up all is well now & I’m subscribed now☮️
That's great to hear!
Cheers!
That's great to hear! Thanks for watching and subbing! Really appreciate it.
Have you had problems with it yet? I'm about to return my panasonic ubp 820 after it being piec eif crap freezing skipping and flashing colors
Hello again Fuzz! I was just wondering if you had any particular settings when trying to get a dvd to look nice with this player and 4k tv
@@TheOriginalFuzz thank you Fuzz! Yeah the only Dvds I own is the Pretty little Liars series. There was never a Blu-ray release for it unfortunately
Thanks so much for watching! ruclips.net/video/EPDvxc77M4k/видео.html
These settings seem to have fixed the skipping issues for me. Thank you.
Great to hear! Thanks for watching!
Waiting on my XM800 right now. So glad I stumbled upon this video. Thank you, sir. Hopefully, I won't have any issues
Finally found a solution to this issue! Really appreciate it!
The video was a bit long for the solution BUT it worked! Thank you for the hack I was really sad when I started watching my Bladerunner 2049 4k that I got for Christmas and it froze on me. But now it works!!!
IT WORKS 🎉🎉🎉 thank you so much for the settings tip. 🙏🏻
Thanks for this video! This seems to have done the trick! I just got my player a few weeks ago and figured there must be some kinda settings issue.
It worked! Thanks so much. I was ready to return the player.
Received the player today and watched 1917. The movie skipped at mid point I thought I had a bad disc. I will give your method a try
Thank you so much. This really stopped my Sony X800M2 from freezing.
That's great to hear! Thanks for watching!
My hero ! I had those freezes for years now with my 4K bluray discs (Blade Runner 2049 and recently Abyss), you're advices WORKED ! YEE HAAA
Very cool! That's great to hear. Thanks for watching!
I think the bulk of 4k issues comes down to quality control on the manufacturers part.
lol i have 5 4k discs
Thank you Sir, this info totally fixed my X800m 🎉. Appreciate your videos
Awesome! That's great to hear. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you! I’ve been having issues and will try this. I appreciate it!
Wow!!!!! You just saved my X800. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I had that problem with Point Break shout! Steelbook on my PS5 and 4K sony bluray player.
Thanks again for the support, and for commenting too!
Yes, those are among the common issues people have been experiencing. Give these settings tweaks a try! And thanks for watching.
You may find this helpful (if you haven't already watched it):

Awesome! I'm so glad it helped out. And thank you for watching!
Did not fix it as I thought it did. Here's another tip don't allow quick start to be on it causes stuff
Thanks for this!!! Y are ma hero, i was close to freak out with my 800m2 ❤
If I keep the Dolby Vision output on at all times, how will it affect movies that are not in Dolby Vision?
I'm really glad to hear this helped! And thanks so much for watching and subbing! Really appreciate it.
Did it work? I just don´t know what this mode actually does tbh... ^^
Hey dude thanks for the video I never would have figured that out! Seems to have fixed my problems 😺🍿
So if the blu-ray upscaling isn't good, is the DVD upscaling any better or no?
THANK YOU!!!! This has happened to me and was about to shell out a lot of money for a new panasonic player....
i have a sony udp 1100es and i had a horrible experience with the Game of thrones set, 4k i did the changes in the settings and i also did the cleaning with the cloths and it appears to have fixed the problem do both micorfiber cloths and setting changes.
I own the Sony UBP-X1100ES. I have not had any issues, but I will be checking my settings and making these adjustments.
Thank you it’s helped a lot problems sorted
Here's his post where he lays it all out: facebook.com/groups/1230562081155461/posts/1231231851088484/
I hope this helps a bit.
My panasonic 820 is giving me skipping issues and in going to return it and get the x800 m2. Hopefully know issues.

@@TheOriginalFuzz Okay, thanks! I’m glad I’m not the only one.
Hello, Greetings from Portugal/Europe!
I didn't know your channel, but I'm already a fan.
After seeing this video, and because I'm about to buy a Sony 4K Blu-Ray, I ask a question:
Are the image and sound of the Sony UDP X800/M2 worth the €60 difference over the UDP-X700?...
@@TheOriginalFuzzX800M2 has better picture and sound quality and build quality
Thanks for this video. Great information!
X800M2 is very kuc the same as UB-820
Hello Fuzz, how are you doing I just bought X800 I bought the player on 9/24/24 and this video is a year old is the problem's fix should I Waite to see if it happens to my player or just make the setting now on the player, please let me know
Yeah the settings still apply. At the very least, you definitely don't want to have the 4K upscaling turned on when you're watching a 4K disc. It could cause some periodic issues otherwise. I've always found it better to just leave it turned off, since your 4K TV will handle the upscaling anyway, by default. Thanks for the question, and I hope you enjoy your new player!
