Yeah, after having medical problems starting last year, I have a new and enormous respect and appreciation for nurses, doctors, surgeons, EMTS and everyone up and down the line.

Hi...yours is one of the best vlogs on RUclips as it's direct, informative and to the point....some of these American vloggers ramble on too long. I too have had most of my rectum removed and am waiting for a reversal. I'm pretty apprehensive but like your positive approach! I suffered badly from ileus last summer when I had my ileostomy but hopefully it won't be as bad this time. I bet I won't be lucky enough to get my own room!! Regards Paul.

Thanks for the nice comment Paul I appreciate it. I'm glad the videos can be of use to somebody.
The illious is the worst pain I have experienced during this whole thing, really not nice.
I learnt my lesson, as I'm sure you did. Take the reversal very easy. I wish you the best of luck with it all!

I had my reversal on a Friday pm and went home on Monday. Feeling great, no regrets at all.
My reversal was done robotically thru the stoma, no incision.

That's great to hear. I'm pleased you are on the mend and on the road back to normality of some sort!

I had reversal of my ilestomy back in June after diverticulitis forced me into having a stoma, reversal went terrible and ended up as an impatient for 6 weeks, when they joined my bowel back together it kept collapsing, had to get it stretched multiple times then it perforated. Finally starting to get back to normal!

Hi there, why did you have to ha e your stoma for so long, if you dont mind me asking.

Hi there, the lower part of the bowel gets thinner and is more likely to rupture than if you have the procedure higher up.
My surgeon believed 3 months was the best amount of time to let it heal before reconnecting.
From my understanding this can vary depending on who does the surgery and what procedure is carried out.
A rupture is bad news and can lead to sepsis.

@bowelandbabies okay that makes sense, I had diverticulitis surgery also, there were complications when dr was connecting colon back together and it tore, so ended up with a ileostomy, dr said for 6 to 8 weeks...really nervous

      Hi,
Pretty good now thanks. I don't think about it 90% of the time.
I do now have to take lactalose to regulate me a bit.
I hope your recovery goes well and you can resume doing the things you enjoy!

Hi there, it's approaching 1 year since my reversal now. In term of normal I don't think I will ever get back to that without a rectum. I am however quite used to my new routine and feel confident out and about.
I go to the toilet between 5-10 times a day. Some days are good, some days are bad. Next year I will be looking at adjusting my diet to help.
I hope your reversal goes well, I wish you a speedy recovery!
