Just wanted to say thank you for this. I'm 3 weeks post op with my illeostomy and I will be getting a comfort belt for now. I'm eventually going to get the stealth belt once my stoma stops changing in size. Really appreciate what you do. Thanks agsin!!!
just want to share that tomorrow I get my take-down surgery. thanks again for all your videos. seriously you are doing good for osto-mates and basically I don't know what I would have done with out you videos these last months.
Thank you so much for this video! You are very thorough and informative. I purchased a stealth belt last year and am looking to get a backup and I may try the Comfort this time. Keep up the great videos! Appreciate it a ton! :)
What a great video! I love your style your cadence, and your clarity in your presentation. I am brand new with a newborn ileostomy. So good information that’s digestible is very pertinent to me. You delivered on all counts. My thanks and I look forward to your next videos.
Hi Eric, after 4 mths.w/ Stealth Belt Pro, I have some issues. I only wear it for outdoor activity, but would use it for dressing up. Belt looks like the cummerbund on my tuxedo. 1.As an avid hiker, its slips up & down & pulls on my stoma.. The smaller hole makes it worse. As i mentioned before, Grainger makes blk. window molding in many widths & heights. I put a 2-4" pieces across the back side, on either side of my spine, where it is highest. Cheap & available at Loews. 2.Belt collects sweat like crazy & soaked like a sponge. I saw your linty beat up belt & I suggest Hand Washing only. Greatly extends the life. I have clothes that look like your old belt, machine washed. 3.Volume is an issue. My output is often high. The smaller hole makes it hard to manipulate removal & emptying. Had 2 leaks & spattered my hiking shorts in a public toilet, yuck. Hollister told me to go easy on the oil or stop. 4. I find it has too much velcro. The secondary strip will rub my "love handles" raw. Have to play around to ease it. 5. My stoma got bigger & was warned by MD & RN of prolapse. Coughing vs PT? The belt rubs on it. Will try one of the stoma guards, I saw on your video. If anyone experiences a prolapse, Immediately sprinkle sugar on it. It will shrink & retract. After 41 yrs in Medicine, I've seen Huge rectal prolapses, called the surgeon & he asks for Sugar. I once said: Doc, would you like a cup of coffee with it? HAHA
Great tips. FYI: I spinkle baby powder behind the belt and that greatly helps with sweat. Alternatively, use some unscented antiperspirant - crazy, but it works. Yeah, hand washing is the way to go. I only hand wash my ostomy stuff now, and it does extend their life considerably. I suggest giving StealthBelt your feedback directly as they may incorporate some new ideas into future designs :)
Great question. It will still drain, but it will use the width of the bag, not the length. If you have thicker output, then you can often "push" the output to the side to help flatten it out and more evenly distribute things, but it's not necessary for everyone. It's important to remember that wearing your bag sideways does reduce the usable capacity of your bag. That said, StealthBelt has a vertical belt that offers great support and allows normal flow to the bottom of the bag ;)
Very good information between each one. I have an ostomy but my stoma is on my belt line and the problem I have with the StealthBelt is the material being very slick. Now of course I purchased mine 12 years ago, so not sure if they have changed. This causes my pants to slide down off it and find having to use suspenders.
Hey, Glen. The material is still what I'd consider to be "slick". Beltline stomas are more of a challenge, and these belts work best when the beltline is below the stoma. For stomas at the beltline, I tend to prefer hard stoma guards.
How do you go about cleaning a stealth comfort belt. Online tells me to hand wash/hang dry, but not what type of soap to use. I can't get a hold of them and am worried to damage it.
I hand wash with a laundry detergent that is safe on hands (usually they come in sheets that dissolve in water), not the harsh stuff. I think any laundry detergent you have available will work, but don't use fabric softener.
@@VeganOstomy I have this brand called soap works. Says good on sensitive skin, but says it has no detergents. Will that work? I'm so worried to damage it because It's changed my life drastically!
That company seems to make some gentle soap, so I don't see anything wrong with it. I've been hand washing my stealthbelts for years, and apart from just wear and tear from regular use, the washing keeps them fresh 👍
Great video...love the outtakes too. I love, love, love my stealth belt pro. I purchased mine around a month after my surgery last year. I'm glad to see that after your long use it still looks great. That makes me feel even more confident in my purchase. I did base my decision from your original review. The price was higher but you definitely get what you pay for. I also discovered that they sell what they call "bloopers" which are belts that they may have made for customers that cancelled or changed their mind. So not only did I save money getting a "blooper" I was able to get it sooner. They do need a few days to check their stock to see if there is a match to what your needs are but it was definitely worth checking into. I do find myself wearing it less as it adds bulk to my clothing. Do you think that it is better or necessary for me to wear it more often? Thank you Eric once again for all of your insight.
+Don DePasquale Thanks for letting me know about the "bloopers". I had no idea they had those available. Wear it whenever you like. Sometimes, these belts bands, and accessories are only worn when needed, not all the time. I like wearing mine all the time, but it's bit necessary.
I have other videos that show more about how the belt is used and tips on how to wear the appliance 👍 This comparison was more to show the differences and similarities with these belts.
Can I put the belt if I wear my pouch vertically? I am starting a job in labs very soon and it requires walking/moving all the time. So I want to protect/secure my pouch from licking.
Hi Phil. I don't know if they'll work better with a stoma that's high up, but they shouldn't be worse! My only concern with wearing it higher up is whether it would ride up a bit - this would depend on the shape of the person wearing it, I suspect ;)
Vegan Ostomy. Thanks Eric. As you suggested, it'll be best to wait until after surgery/some recovery to establish a good size/fit. I'd guess smaller size for a diminutive build.
Does anyone who uses these belts, horseback riding. My riding breetches are tighter than my pants are, and i'm wondering how these will work. Thanks for any input you may have.
Hey Matthew. The guy who founded the Stealth Belt company surfs :) They actually put out a small video recently: ruclips.net/video/HNUX8G4_9e8/видео.html I suggest contatcting them directly for any specific questions as I'm sure they'll be able to answer them all for you. Take care!
I know this is old. But I got my ileostomy in Feb 2013. Sept 2013 I was surfing again. I tried with my wetsuit on and no other Ostomy accessory products. It went flawless. Surfed for hours. It did feel "wrong" at first. Laying on a flat hard surface while wiggling as I paddled. I was sure my barrier ring and wafer must have shifted and planned on changing as soon as I got home. When I did I was surprised to find both were intact. I also tried trunkin' it. No shirt. Just a pair of trunks and an Ostomy Secret's wrap. This did not go well. I didn't feel protected enough to stay out there. But with a wetsuit? Good to go. That 2 or 3mm of rubber supports the bag perfect.
I purchased the Stealthbelt but stopped wearing it because I am a Hollister 2 piece wearer and it pulled at the wafer in such a way that leaks occurred and saturated the belt and my clothing. I have never tried any of the others because of cost.
I'm sorry to hear that, Gregg, but thank you for sharing your experience. I've been a Hollister 2pc user for many years and have never had leaks caused by the belt itself. Are you really active or was there any other factor at play here?
I have a ileostomy and I have to fly on a plane in August and I'm new with my bag and I use a drainage tube for urine to flow freely through but how many hours does the belt have to be emptied when its turned sideways to not blow up from being in either belts? Ps I'm a female with my stoma on my right side
Generally speaking, how long it will be before needing to empty your bag will be about the same when you are wearing it sideways as it would be in the regular, vertical position. Some people may find that they empty less often because of the support that the belt gives. I hope that helps. Enjoy your flight!
Video is terrific - thank you! But since it was recorded 4 years ago, I am wondering if these are still the top options or if there are other products now that should be considered?
Great question. Because of patents, you won't find many products like these. That said, ComfortBelt is now owned by StealthBelt so get what's available 👌
I got the Stealth Belt Pro. I also bought the Ostomy Armor Titanium Max belt for protection when playing basketball (which I play a lot of). At some point I will try to wear that all day just to see how comfortable it is.
I'm curious as to if it will help with sleeping on your appliance side. I have an iliostomy 3 years now and I have been sleeping on my left for fear of my bag leaking if I do lay on it. Would this help that issue?
Hi Rebecca, is your concern about leaks? I used to wear belts and bands at night, but found that they can sometimes constrict the bag and both lower the capacity and make it difficult to empty. These days, I don't use any accessories while sleeping and haven't had any problems regardless of the side I sleep on. That said, you may enjoy the support that a belt like this can offer day or night. It usually ends up being a personal preference. 👍
I’ve had mine for a little over a year, and I sleep on both sides and have even ended up on my stomach before morning as well, lol. I was terrified of sleeping on my right side for months, but once I found the right bag that works for me, and mastered the skill of it lasting 7 days between changes, I decided to give it a go and I’ve been sleeping reckless ever since 😊
Personally, I would wait until you've settled into an appliance that is working for you and your weight is stable. There are often many changes that happen in the weeks/months following surgery that would impact how these belts fit. I hope that helps.
I won't think that it would help because it reduces the capacity of the bag. A larger, high-output bag might be more appropriate, and of course, more frequent emptying of the bag (if possible) would be ideal.
Great video, I'm back from 1 month at the hospital, I almost died because of surgery complication BUT I have a fresh new stoma (a left sided ileostomy, I have asked the surgeon to put it where my colostomy was if possible, because I was used to it), so I'm looking in advance to wear it horizontally. I'm waiting to get back in good shape and gain some weight and I will go for the StealthBelt. Thanks for your videos, it help to live easier with this "body particularity" :)
+caroline frederikke Yes, that shouldn't be a problem at all. But remember that these belts are not meant for hernia prevention, so if you are doing heavy lifting or weight training then you'll want a proper hernia prevention band.
May I ask what you use for hernia prevention? And are you familiar with comfizz level 1 hernia support? will those garments not press too tight against the stoma? I have been watching your videos and they are very helpful
+cj perello I don't use anything for hernia prevention, but I have seen some hernia belts from Nu-Hope that I would consider if I needed to get one. I'd have to get a prescription for insurance to cover a hernia belt. I haven't used Comfizz products, so I don't have an opinion on those. @@VeganOstomy Hi But just so I'm clear, are you saying these supports are NOT suitable for Hollister type Urostomy bags as they are advertised as such on the Comfort Belt site. I was just about to order one so any advice would be great. Great video btw.
The vertical belt goes on the exact same way as these horizontal belts, but you leave your ostomy appliance in the vertical position. I've been using several of the vertical belts for a while and love them!
Good question. Are you looking for hernia support or prevention? You may want to get in touch with StealthBelt directly to see if they have any options, but generally speaking you'll want a specialized product for hernias and I'm not sure what the StealthBelt can offer in this regard. Good luck.
Try finding a belt with two holes! I wear a colostomy bag and a urostomy bag. Will not work for me. And will look into a custom made one. I bet quite pricey and also bet insurance won't pay. Lucky me.
Talk to the manufacturer directly, as most will have custom options for double stomas. StealthBelt does and several others do too. Speak to StealthBelt about insurance, because I believe these belts will be covered. 👍
I am mid video and i hope you show what thwy look like on a person who really has a ostomy , instead of a model who doesnt or a colostomate who irrigates n just wears a small stoma cap. I want to see it on a real ileostomate
A hernia support belt/band would be more appropriate as these will not give the proper support. Hernia belts should be fitted by a qualified person or stoma nurse as there are several measurements that are needed when ordering a custom belt.
Stealth belt pro is disappointing. Every video, image or instructions shows a reasonably fit individual wearing the belt around their WAIST. The problem is, most urostomy stomas are either at the same level as the navel or slightly below (always to the right). The stoma is too low to wear this belt around the waist. I also note that this simply adds more bulk to a bag your trying to hide. I will be returning mine asap.
Hey Catherine. I'm sorry that you haven't had the best experience. It should work equally well at the navel level. But it really depends on your needs. What is the reason why you purchased one? For me, it works extremely well when I'm jogging or cycling, and I use both the horizontal and vertical versions. For concealment, yes, it can add bulk, but this can also depend on the wearer and wardrobe.
Just wanted to say thank you for this. I'm 3 weeks post op with my illeostomy and I will be getting a comfort belt for now. I'm eventually going to get the stealth belt once my stoma stops changing in size. Really appreciate what you do. Thanks agsin!!!

Hi Sohag. You can order directly from www.stealthbelt.com/ and they will ship internationally.
Is the sheath belt proper for a bed ridden patient with iliostomy bag who suffers frequent leakages due to frequent filling up of the bag?
I won't think that it would help because it reduces the capacity of the bag. A larger, high-output bag might be more appropriate, and of course, more frequent emptying of the bag (if possible) would be ideal.

How can I fix the urine passing pipe with ostomy stoma bag
Hi Malay, I don't have a urostomy, but I suggest asking a nurse for assistance with that. All the best.
I am mid video and i hope you show what thwy look like on a person who really has a ostomy , instead of a model who doesnt or a colostomate who irrigates n just wears a small stoma cap. I want to see it on a real ileostomate
I always use a real ostomate in my videos (mostly me 😁). I don't like "fake" product shots/videos that use non-ostomate models 😂
Where can I get a stealth belt from?
+Kay Marl stealthbelt.com :)
My husband has a very large hernia around his stoma, would this be helpful. We do use belts to hold pouches on.
A hernia support belt/band would be more appropriate as these will not give the proper support. Hernia belts should be fitted by a qualified person or stoma nurse as there are several measurements that are needed when ordering a custom belt.
The pro only
Stealth. As i would say to my wife, good job baby.
The UK is actually still Europe, just not part the European Union since Brexit.
They don't show a vertical belt how to put on
