It has come to my attention that recently, the legendary singer behind this equally legendary anime opening known as Ichiro Mizuki has unfortunately passed away due to losing a battle of Lung Cancer. His contributions in both Anime and Tokusatsu truly won’t be forgotten. May he rest in peace.
May he rest in peace and pride, his fiery soul and blazing spirit will never be forgotten, echoed forever through the legends and songs he helped breath life into with passion
He definitely paved the way for Mecha, and contributed greatly to others. He’s the 2nd innovator in their comic culture after Osamu in my opinion, who basically introduced all of that genres to Japan by adding Japanese twists to them. Go Nagai was also probably the first major success who also produced very edgy works, freely adding very adult elements into his works.

***** True.. I'm picturing a black n white film footage of Japanese soldiers marching at the front, jumping from their trenches, with the Tetsujin theme playing in the background, occasionaly interrupted by explosions... But Maz's theme seems something you'd hear in a night club in the 70's, a jazz band providing the music, everybody dancing to it. So, while Tetsujin's theme seems more patriotic, Mazinger's one gets you the ladies.. B)
The Fantom Convoy👑🏆 True, but the singer literally pronounced it L lol. The word isn't even Japanese anyway, so yeah. Despite the fact that it's supposed to be R.
R is pronounced similar to D, which is very close to L with regards to tongue placement in the mouth, so speakers of certain Japanese dialects sound very much like L when they're saying R. There is, indeed, no way to explicitly express 'L' in Japanese. It can't even be written as such.
I'm a 16 year old girl and I totally love this anime, my dad introduced me to so many shows he saw as a kid, like dragon ball, transformers and more, including this.
So did my parents. They tell me I'm a 40 year old man in the body of a 17 year old since I like a lot of things that people of my generation wouldn't even care about. I like collecting Transformers toys, building models, and I still watch a lot of old cartoons.
Before I discovered that Discotek existed and got the series on DVD, there was a span of time where I listened to this on a daily basis because it was about all I could do to scratch that newfound Mazinger itch. I never got tired of it, this opening is an absolute classic.

Go Nagai is a fucking genius. The man pioneered the Super Robot, Magical Girl, Post-Apocalyptic, and ecchi genres. True legend.
