  • 63677, here's a review as well as a quick demonstration and some tips on successful use on this harbor freight set. they also have these in 1/8" and 3/8" of an inch they are a reasonable quality for the price. embossing stamp set these are surprisingly handy and can be used heated up to burn wood or melt into plastic as well as stamping traditional metallic items. These are not meant for stamping into hardened steel. . .

    5:00 in order to keep my stamps in the correct direction, I paint a small dot on the side facing me when I use it, so I know that the stamp is positioned correctly.

    Grind a groove in the side of the stamp so that it faces you and you can feel it with your thumb when making the stamp. Good quality (American made) stamps have this groove already cut.
    Make a wooden block with holes to hold the stamps. It makes it much faster to pull the stamp as you need it. If you get fancy you can make a cover for the block like a quality set has.

    Tip for people with poor aim: Use a plier to hold instead of your finger. You'd never guess how I know. I made a jig with wood to hold it at 90 degree and hold.

    A stamping jig that's set on a rack could come in handy if you needed to do a lot of stamping and want to keep them all on the same line.

    The problem I always had with these is the actual letter alignment and spacing. When I was in trade school I spent a day or two trying to mill a holder where you can put all your letters in and snug them together with 2 thumb screws. If I remember correctly it didn't work too good. After all the letters where in the holder you basically needed a press to have enough force to deboss all of the letters at once. And due to the shape at the tip all the letters seemed widely spaced apart.

    I’m trying to stamp my initials on to a knife I’m making with This set with steel from Home Depot that’s about 1/4 in thick would it be the same process or is it any different?

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  4 года назад +2

      Yep same process just try to focus on keeping the stamp nice and straight and you can always hit it again if it doesn't go deep

    Think this would work for aluminum anodized lower receiver?

    • @CatusMaximus
      @CatusMaximus  4 года назад

      They would work great on aluminum although I would suggest doing a couple practice uses because it's really easy to overdrive them on softer materials

    Pretty cool review. I have never seen a real use for these except for our IO-520 to IO-550 conversions. They had a better set of stamps.

      Yep. Helps to lightly dampen the surface with a moist paper towel to take the impression more deeply.
