Thank you Dr. Malik! While I haven't run into this specific problem, the video was still very educational as all your videos are. I really appreciate the way you take on topics that could be labelled as sensitive or awkward and do so in such a matter-of-fact way. Your teaching style makes me feel comfortable even as I learn preventative measures to common problems. Keep up the great work!
Cutting out excess sugar from diet. (Simple sugars like cupcakes and junk ). This makes extra yeast. Which makes the yeast infection worse. My jock itch finally went away. After creams and nystatin, and flucanozole didn’t work.
Switched to boxers. It was a painful six weeks, but once those muscle gained their tone going without support became far more comfortable. No more jock itch.
Great education of Jock itch! I am constantly on my feet in keeping myself busy! I thought I had got something wrong with myself down there and it got me worried! So I googled it and up popped your blog! So grateful in your information, as there is nothing worse than having an itch down there while waiting on a bus, or walking through the shopping centre! Many thanks!!!!!👍
wash area with dandruff shampoo, leave on for a minute or two. (dandruff is a fungus) Rinse, dry, apply white vinegar. fungus doesn't like acid environment.
If you already have jock itch, proceed with over the counter creams and proscribed ones etc, however frequent washing the area is key (even if its wet wipe in the office bathroom) but also your gut health! Often yeast or bad bacteria build up in the gut affects your skin too and thus leads to this. Remove as much carbohydrate (including beer, bread) from your diet as possible (i cheat on weekends is my solution to sticking with it) and eat as much fermented yogurt, leafy greens and pro biotics as possible including fresh garlic and ginger raw before bed and you'll see your skin change as a result.
I solved the recurring jock itch problem by abandoning cotton underwear, without going commando. Moisture-wicking fabric is the way to go. Usually they're referred to as high performance underwear. Cotton acts like a wet washcloth and keeps moisture near the skin--and the fungi love it. They need warmth, food and moisture; deprive them of any one of those and the leave town.
That blue is a pretty color for you. Well done as always. I'm 68, when I was 15 and playing sports I ended up at the family doctor. A oral prescription and a prescription cream. I now rotate one day Tolnaftate 1% in a corn starch base, (Lotrimin) next day Miconazole Nitrate 2% in corn starch, (Desenex) Make sure area is dry. No broken skin so a little isopropyl alcohol, 70 or 91%. I have both. No it does not burn unless you have broken skin.
My mom (a nurse) gave me the best cure. Swab the area with iodine solution then apply Gold Bond Medicated extra strength baby powder. Stay away from that pharmacy stuff. Doesn't work.
I read the ingredients in athlete's foot powder and jock itch powder. Both the same. As athlete's foot powder cost half of jock itch powder, I use the foot powder.., it works.

I never had a problem with jock itch until I was developing type 2 diabetes. I suspect that I was sweating out small amounts of glucose with the sweat leading to increased fungal growth. The anti-fungal powders seem to cure this but it does occasionally re-occur.

I've used this ointment called Bag Balm. It is really good for sensitive skin and it has an antiseptic component that prevents fungus and odors from developing. It also makes your skin become very healthy and elastic.
I used to use that for when I was working with cement every day. The cement would dry skin out so bad, it was like a burn, and bag balm was a lifesaver!
I had the most heinous case of jock itch on my right testicle for a couple years that didn't go away after twice treating it with doctor prescribed steroid cream along with prescription anti fungal cream. After those failures which gave a very short duration of relief I tried white vinegar applied to my entire genital area three times a day for a week. I made it through the entirety of the following summer without a recurrence of the jock itch and am still rash free today.
wow, white vinegar... that is something i would never have thought of in a million years... would you care to explain in the reasoning behind why it helped you, thanks...
Best way to avoid jock itch, is to avoid athletes foot. In public locker rooms and showers, always wear shower sandals. Dry feet and groin well, then put on socks before underwear.
Lamisil (for athlete's foot) spray works fast. After shower, spray a small amount onto your fingers then rub it into the affected area. No mess, residues, bad smells. Jock itch usually gone after one or two applications.
There was no mention of Gold Bond medicated body powder, which is my favorite. Its talc-free ingredients are acacia seyal gum, eucalyptol, methyl salicylate, salicylic acid, sodium bicarbonate, thymol, tricalcium phosphate, zea mays (corn) starch, zinc oxide, zinc stearate.
I used a mixture of castor and coconut oils to get rid of jock itch, took a month to get rid of over 20 years of jock itch. Added a few drops of lavender oil to smell nice down there.
What I have found that helps a lot to prevent jock itch is just washing the area well twice or three times a day... Once the symptoms are present, a whole day at the beach help get rid of the uncomfortable condition
A dermatologist prescribed ketocomazole cream. It only works for a few days, then, the itching and burning returns. Corn starch doesn't phase it. I 've been watching your videos for awhile but this is probably my first comment.

Hey Doc. The worst I've been is when I worked on a pineapple farm. Undies change didn't help so my boss recommended Vaseline and lots of it while commando. Meanwhile now I'm much older I just change underwear two or three times a day with Vitamin E cream on the affected areas. This is mainly an issue in Summer only. Cheers
In the shower I spray white vinegar the rinse it off. I towel dry then splash on rubbing alcohol. I dry that off. When totally dry I sometimes use a powder. NEVER had a problem since.
I discovered both the cure for sweaty balls and jock itch and just surprised that I’ve been on this earth for a while and never thought of this. I simply use a dry deodorant around my crotch area and not only have I avoided jock itch for years, but more importantly, never again have sweat balls in the summer time !!
What you can do with powder to avoid mess is to sit on the very front of the toilet so the area in question is out in front, then put a small trashcan underneath. Any excess just falls in the can.
Thank you Dr. for discussing this topic. I have a couple of questions, 1. I've heard that using cornstarch for jock itch promotes fungal infection, is that true or no? 2. When I get very sweaty and itchy down there I also get a strong smell there. What can I do about that? Thank you for any insight you can give me.
I ve used most of this stuff at one time or another and i prefer tolfinate cream it's a little expensive but it works the fastest and dont take alot to work. Also in a pinch one of the best fungus fighters people veen using for years is VIcks vapor rub. The petroleum is just vasilene and it has menthol added which also helps kill bacteria and fungus. It also works as a topical cream pain reliever for hemmroids. If you have them and you don't have the normal cream from the store and i recommend always having this stuff anyways.Screw the suppositories. As long as there on the outside which is all ive ever experienced. The vicks will fire it up for a quick minute but hang on and it works great if ya dont have nothing else. Also hemmroid cream works great to get rid of or lesson temporarily forehead lines, crow's feet, dark circles under eyes and if you suffer from carpal tunnel or your hands ache when it rains you will be pleasantly surprised at how well it works to aleave swelling and pain in hands wrists ,feet, knees, its cheaper than arthritis meds and more effective.
Thank you Dr. Malik. I've been having a stubborn case of jock itch for about a year but I think it's getting under control with otc meds, specifically 1% butenafine hcl. I will also try the cream you recommended. Cheers!
thanks, Dr Rena. for more info :)........of course lots of us guys use the foot fungal spray liquid on our jock itch areas..it can momentarially sting but works really good if powder wont work..... also put on powder in the shower after drying yourself... just wash the powder mess down the drain!!!
A few hours in a chlorinated swimming pool will take care of this and similar problems. Of course that's kind of gross if it's a public pool or if other people are in there with you. Also use a blow dryer after showering as others have suggested.
I like running, I used to have problems when I was younger because I would run in shorts with my under ware underneath so I would sweat a lot so I bought proper running shorts and solved the problem.
After shower, alcohol, Miconazole and vaseline. Wash clothes and add a half cup of borax for underwear. use Micanazole twice a day, not once. keep things out of pocket that will rub.
Thanks for the video. Have had jock itch come back somewhat yearly, and been treating it, but my doctor didn't really advice me on how to avoid it. So thanks for the info, avoiding is better then curing.
I don't get jock itch but can get itchy due to humidity in Thailand, so in wet humid season, coconut oil at night works best, hairdryer to dry off is good after a shower, powder ok but who wants loads of powder down there
On one long rainy camping trip where I was in and out of the water a lot, I came down with a raging case of jock itch. Once I finally got rid of it I started going commando. That was almost 50 years ago and I've never had it since.
Trim the hair to about 1/4 inch (bellybutton to bolt hole), don't shave it. Trim it with scissors or electric trimmer with an cover. Sweaty hair is really abrasive.
When I was in the Army basic training 50 years ago in the hot south I had the worst jock rash ever. Couldn’t even walk. I went to the infirmary and they gave me some kind of cream. Went back to the barracks and applied. I thought my groin was on fire and I had to run into a cold shower. Maybe the rash was so bad it was like an open wound. Anyway, for the past 30 years I just make sure it’s nice and dry down there after taking a shower with this strange process. I stand in front of a small fan and make sure I’m nice and dry in the creases. My wife thinks I’m crazy.
I dry my ball sack with a hair dryer (set on low) after every shower. I had jock itch like you describe. It just burned so bad but using clotrimazole cream and powders with miconazole (in addition to goood hygene) have kept it pretty much under control. but I think I'm going to have to use the miconazole powder forever. If I stop the rash comes back.
Dr. Malik, I posted the following question to your video on Natural Testosterone Boost about a month ago. Perhaps you didn't see it, so I'll repeat it here. If a man has prostate cancer, should he be looking to increase his testosterone?
When I’d jock itch I sprayed my athlete foot spray on where it itched, a couple of sprays later it disappeared just a word of warning it stings like mad but hey ho no pain no gain
I've found that using powder produces little "powder balls" as I sweat. These cause a bit of irritation. I may have to try one of the creams that dry up after a bit. Once a week, I will apply some OTC jock itch cream as a preventative. In doing so, I haven't had a bout of jock itch in many years.
what about red armpits? same thing? Also, while visiting Panama I discovered an extremely inexpensive red bar soap in a local supermarket called "carbolic" soap. I bought some because it was very inexpensive just to try and later discovered it's great antibacterial effect.
Just sharing my story as a girl who not only had jock itch but also ringworms. Long story so read if you want to out of boredom. I am someone who developed itchy skin since my teen days but I always ignored it. By the time I reached my 20's is where it got worse. I had thought that I had eczema or I was allergic to certain foods and that was why my skin was like this. However, no matter what I did, nothing seemed to work. anti-itch cream- no eat anti-inflammatory food-no apply lotion more often-no antihistamine- no fish oil pills- no healing ointment-no none of these worked like I researched. I was scratching myself more often like a daily ritual. More dark spots started appearing on my privates, armpits, crook of my neck, underboob, behind me knees, and inside my elbows. They began to turn purple, scaly and hives were appearing. the worst part was constantly scratching my privates for I would scratch until my privates were oozing out pus and blood and washing it burned like hell. And for some reason, moisturizing it made it worst. I finally had enough and decided to be more detailed about my symptoms. Then I learned about jock itch, ringworm, and other fungal diseases that increases without proper care. I am thankful that this was a hygiene issue and not some terminal disease. For the past three weeks, I am slowly recovering. It was hard to adjust to at first but my skin is feeling less itchy and irritated than before. my once purple darks spots are less purple and my hives are disappearing. The following changes I did: -showered twice daily. Sweat, Bacteria from scratching or wearing the same outfits everyday really builds up the fungal disease. if not shower, a sponge bath or shower wipes will do. - after shower, used antifungal cream, spray, powder, and wash on your fungal spots (twice daily). it may seem like it's not working but you will see gradual changes. keep it dry, not moisturized or else you will just be increasing ur fungal production. -DO NOT WEAR YOUR SAME CLOTHES AFTER WEARING THEM ONCE! this was something I did becuz if it was still good then it's ok. but for now, every worn clothes is thrown into the laundry asap. same for your towels, pillow, blanket and bedsheets (at least once a week). -wearing loose clothes definitely helped. I also changed out my underwears for boy shorts, breathable stretchy underwear, and I even own some mens boxers to relieve my affected areas of moisture. -last but not least, AVOID SCRATCHING!!!!!! I admit, I am still guilty of this when I was still trying to recover but even so, make sure to wash ur hands, clean up what u scratched up and apply any antifungal stuff you have on u. I have been scratching less and my skin has improved. thank you for reading. although it don't matter, I am just happy to say that I am slowly recovering from this 11 year nightmare that I thought would never go away.
Oh my gosh thank u so much I was struggling so long with this but now knowing it’s a hygiene issue I bought a 8 pack of Irish spring soap thank u so much see u in 3 weeks
I've done the expensive antibiotic creams, powders, and the cheapest success for the last 10 years is your everyday Mouthwash. On hot days I spray it down there and itch is gone imeaditly. Lasts all day. Then you just do it again.
Ball powders??? Oh my Gosh I think we've gone completely south here, perhaps I have a very bad misunderstanding: I use Hodgdons H110, Which is virtually the same as Winchester 296 gun powder. Both are good for magnum loads but I think we're talking about different types of ball powders..so I think I'll just stop right now because I'm realizing I'm probably in territory I don't belong😂😂😂😂😂
I had the occasional problem with it when I gained a bit of weight, I found using my antiperspirant in other places than my underarms did the trick of keeping everything dry.
Having suffering from this myself I recommend Silicea gel. It is in foods that we consume however around the mid 20's there is a decline that is stored in the body. This helps with bones, cartilage, hair and importantly the skin. It may take a few months at least to notice a difference. For me occurrences have been fewer and healed faster. Future preventions is the key. Plus the added improvement of skin and hair you can look much better too! Please do your own research and make that decision for yourself if you decide to try it.
Washing with Head & Shoulders (because of zinc content) resolved issues in a few days and completely gone after a week or so. After washing I would apply naturally healing Castor Oil I'm sure severity of the issue could affect results.

What you can do with powder to avoid mess is to sit on the very front of the toilet so the area in question is out in front, then put a small trashcan underneath. Any excess just falls in the can.
Just stand in the bath tub
I use J&J corn starch and it helps so far.
Lamisil is the best.
I never thought I'd ever click like on a jock itch video
A few hours in a chlorinated swimming pool will take care of this and similar problems. Of course that's kind of gross if it's a public pool or if other people are in there with you. Also use a blow dryer after showering as others have suggested.
I like running, I used to have problems when I was younger because I would run in shorts with my under ware underneath so I would sweat a lot so I bought proper running shorts and solved the problem.
Does shaving the hair on your balls make things worse or better with jock itch?
I’ve noticed if I shave it goes away. I’ve been using apple cider vinegar. It seems to stop the itch.
After shower, alcohol, Miconazole and vaseline. Wash clothes and add a half cup of borax for underwear. use Micanazole twice a day, not once. keep things out of pocket that will rub.
Try head and shoulders It works for me. I haven't had an outbreak in years.
How did you use it? please share
Doc I appreciate you very helpful w the review at the end. Covering all angles youre my go to
Thanks for the video.
Commando can cause yeast around your nuts. Just wear white boxers
I like the extra layer of protection in case my zipper gets left down by accident.
@@3DJapan true🤣😂 it happened to me once
I luv your videos! please keep them coming!
Easy according to my insights preferences by all guys. Powder we are far from perfecting creams. Many poison the being. Thank you doctor.
BEST...CHANNEL....EVER
Thanks I’m suffering from fungus (red skin). I’ll try this trick.
Your a mad man but dry down below.
Bro your looking after your health.
I did that for a couple of weeks, then I tried a blow dryer. Works faster. I use it on my feet also.
@@huletnadof313 same. armpits, butt crack and groin with a hair dryer.
I love Dr Rena. She always provide valuable infos whilst knowing how to gain our attention to her, especially guys. ❤️❤️❤️
Thats not a doctor but is a product promotional sales person
Dr. Malik, I posted the following question to your video on Natural Testosterone Boost about a month ago. Perhaps you didn't see it, so I'll repeat it here. If a man has prostate cancer, should he be looking to increase his testosterone?
No. Not if actively has prostate cancer, after treatment can consider after disease is stable for a few years. Should discuss with your urologist.
@@RenaMalikMD, thank you very much. My Gleason score is 6 (3+3) so I am in Active Surveillance at this time.
When I’d jock itch I sprayed my athlete foot spray on where it itched, a couple of sprays later it disappeared just a word of warning it stings like mad but hey ho no pain no gain
Good info, I'll check them out. The information at the end was good too
Powder rules, yes messy but well worth it soothing keeps the area dry plus powder sits perfectly in briefs. Preferably Calvin Klein hip briefs👍
I've found that using powder produces little "powder balls" as I sweat. These cause a bit of irritation. I may have to try one of the creams that dry up after a bit. Once a week, I will apply some OTC jock itch cream as a preventative. In doing so, I haven't had a bout of jock itch in many years.
Try Mouthwash. I've been using it for years.
@@josephperry2661 do you gargle with it before?
😇
@@geedubb2005 occasionally, but mostly now as a bacteria defense. Instead of expensive creams and powders.
what about red armpits?
However, no matter what I did, nothing seemed to work.
anti-itch cream- no
eat anti-inflammatory food-no
apply lotion more often-no
antihistamine- no
fish oil pills- no
healing ointment-no
none of these worked like I researched.
The following changes I did:
-showered twice daily.
@@rashadjames6769 I would not recommend Irish spring soaps. Try buying anti fungal body wash or at least a non scented shower gel.

Great vid and would love to try that cream, but sadly I am in the UK and we don't have some of the great things you have there.
I always use Scholl athletes foot spray a small squirt lasts over a week. Two weeks and its gone for the summer.
I use a produce called Defense in the shower and CVS's Anti-Fungal Power at times.
Thank you for educating us about this topic.
coconut oil also helps not the cooking type the homemade type.
Yes, coconut oil is the best!
I've done the expensive antibiotic creams, powders, and the cheapest success for the last 10 years is your everyday Mouthwash. On hot days I spray it down there and itch is gone imeaditly. Lasts all day. Then you just do it again.
Coconut oil with a few drops of tea tree oil. Your welcome.
Jock itch is really easy to treat with benzoyl peroxide too. Once I started using that, I had no issues of any kind.
Ball powders??? Oh my Gosh I think we've gone completely south here, perhaps I have a very bad misunderstanding: I use Hodgdons H110, Which is virtually the same as Winchester 296 gun powder. Both are good for magnum loads but I think we're talking about different types of ball powders..so I think I'll just stop right now because I'm realizing I'm probably in territory I don't belong😂😂😂😂😂
when showering use dandruff shampoo on the area and let sit for the duration of your shower.
Highly recommend: Gold Bond Medicated Talc-Free Extra Strength Body Powder 4 oz, Cooling, Absorbing, Itch Relief (Aqua-Blue bottle)
Gold Bond Ultimate, Eczema Relief with 2% colloidal Oatmeal cream, has solved my problem
I had the occasional problem with it when I gained a bit of weight, I found using my antiperspirant in other places than my underarms did the trick of keeping everything dry.
Been doing that since my Air Force days and find I dont have that issue anymore. Just made sense and cheaper than buying extra creams.
I had a jock itch and it left a dark patch. The itchiness is gone, but the dark colour is still there. How to get rid of it?
Hair dryer after a shower and what about spray antiperspirants?
Yep , cornstarch works well ... She's awesome .
If you can find a burdock weed take a leaf and put it in you back pocket. Works wonders
I ended mine 20 years ago with a handheld spray in the shower. Make sure no soap residue.
I really enjoy your videos. Lots of great information.
Great video, now I can do something about this 👌. Thanks again.
In my opinion, the Pete & Pedro ball powder fresh is the best.
You are amazing and wonderful Dr. Malik!
I use Aloe Vera gel down below and it seems to work for me, do you recommend this?
Plain corn starch seems to0 work for me but I'll give the Bozak a try. Thanks
