I replaced mine today. 3 - 4 hour job for the normal person who takes a few breaks along the way. Save this task for a rainy day when you want to mess around in the garage and you'll be fine.
The air filter placement, is Honda's way of giving Goldwing owners the finger and getting a good laugh. This stupid design was no accident. Thanks for the video!
Another reason why engineers are considered idiots by a majority of mechanics. This could have been done so much better. But a 'smart' engineer decided he didn't want to make it easy.
Changing these things (air filter\sparks, etc) should be very easy in every vehicle. This is so poorly designed. Thank you for the effort in making this video my friend.
this procedure is only necessary once in a great while, and most of us enjoy working on our own stuff. does it take a long time? yep. is it worth the effort and satisfaction of doing it yourself? yep. you'll spend far more time farting around keeping a Hog on the road than you will a GW- guaranteed.
MAYBE DONE ON PURPOSE ?????? ALL OF THOSE PLASTIC COMPONENTS & WIRING CONNECTIONS TO TAKE OFF - THEN REPLACE, MAYBE THEIR DEALERS WITH SERVICE DEPARTMENTS WERE CONSIDERED, L A B O R C H A R G E S MAYBE ????
I have visions of removing my new camping tent from its bag and never being able to put it back in quite the same after using it. Thanks for the video. I think I'll pass and let someone with experience tackle this one.
No way........It would be less hassle to just buy a new bike every year. Seriously Honda? It's so easy, only 3 simple steps: Step #1 - Disassemble entire bike. Step #2 - Replace air filter Step #3 - Re-assemble entire bike.
It’s a pain in the ass, no arguing about that, but it looks harder to do than it actually is. You just need a half-brain, time to do the job (2 to 3 hours), organizational skills and the ability to twist a few basic tools.
I was thinking about buying a 2008 Goldwing but after this video made me think twice… You completely put the top of the bike apart just to get to the filter , that is bad what do you guys say? I don’t know if I could do that myself I have to pay somebody to do it and probably expensive labor ?? Thank you guys
I am sure it has been said before there are changes between 2001 and 2017, so this video will be partially accurate for those years. 2018 and newer are completely different. They are different motorcycles. This would not apply at all to them.
I was thinking cut the top part were radio is located and put back with some plastic fasteners and put a piece of molding on top of them I got 2007 goldwin I wat find me top case to try before I cut my you know
Such a stupid engineering.Waste of time ! I wish there was a simple filter design in the form of a cassette. The filter is cheap and labor costs a handful of money.

Estimated time to complete about 1 hour
Newbie about 1 month
Excellent Video! Thumbs-up, but the title should be: "How to replace a 2001-2017 Honda Goldwing GL1800 Air Filter - Tutorial"

this convinced me to buy a Harley Road Glide! I'm not kidding!
Kinda was thinking the same. Have been kicking around the idea of going from my cruiser to a wing.... I am now cured of that notion.

Very well done video but Honda should be ashamed of such a piss poor design.
And their cars are built the same way.

Great motorcycle, I have 53000 on it and don't plan ever to replace air filter. 2008 model.

Super no nonsense video! Thanks!

Getting ready to do mine. Thanks a million!
Every time I have to work on my 2018 Wing I hate it a little bit more. Still madly in love with my ‘99 HD Dyna Super Glide.
Your Goldwing will still be going when that other piece of shit is long gone.
My 94 Softail has lasted longer than my 2 goldwings.😂
Excellent video 👍
I'm seriously getting chest pains😢

There are slight differences on the older 2001-04 models when removing the dash and shelter
Мы тут то же самое на 2021 году с DCT сделали. Вот где веселье капец!
1 hour my ass!!!
Takes me two.
First time it took me almost four hours.
Does anyone know how many shop hours this job is ?
Right?! I bet it’s like 3 hrs. Good question.
It's 4 hours my man

Its the same on a 2018-2020+ as the 2017 down?
Yeah mine needs to be done someday. I am not really looking forward to doing it.. :(
You'd think someone would make a kit to replace the stock airbox or relocate it, to make it easier to change.
Yea. I was thinking of pre-filters up front to extend the life of the OEM filters.

@@adolfoponce8346 Same. But as is its a pita.
unfortunately the GL1500 wasn't any better to change . is a good video
Ummm, 2018 and up is quite a bit different. Got one. Done it.
WT-Fudge!
Ridiculous. Engineering fail right here. A serviceable part should be 'relatively' easy to replace.
Video isn't for 2018 & 2019 wings
Yo ! I'll pay the dealership to change that!
Don't ever plan on replacing fiter I'll take my chance. 2008 model
I own 2020 GW DCT Tour. No way hell I am doing this. I will pay the dealer when the schedule comes, its ok by me. The rest I do.
Nice 5 min job then, well done Honda 😂
Damn that's too much for an air filter
What If we say alternator, water pump, fuel pump or a clutch😩
This a nightmare!!

nope! terrible overcomplicated design. Takes 15 minutes on my Harley. Inherited my dads goldwing, will be selling it!
What is that stupid background sound you have on your video? Damn
