Prison for Life for the engineer that developed the placement of the air filter, this was the best filter change video out there, you save us diy guys a lot of money
Customers want every gizmo they can get, managers want to meet budget and time constraints, engineering gets the blame for trying to satisfy both. It is what it is, at some point I figured out that getting the blame was just part of my job, but prison seems a wee bit harsh.
Man make a rider want get his hands dirty. The applause at the end. Fella needs a. Steak dinner for that attempt. Thank you thank you May God continue to use you.
Some Honda Engineers started with the Airbox and then built the Goldwing around it... after it was done they said "Oh well we can't change that anymore and frankly the dealer can make some money to install it for the customers."
Chris..You are the Man! Thanks so much for this vid. Before I watched it, I was scheduling my first routine service at a local bike shop. When I mentioned that I owned a 2014 F6B and needed the air filter (along with an oil change, brake and clutch fluid, and spark plugs changed), he returned an estimate of approx $1025.00. Immediately, I remembered the words of an old wise sage.."Why pay another man for what you can do on your own." With your help, I replaced the OEM filter with a K&N and changed the oil. (I'll check your vid on how to change the spark plugs). ONE NOTE - make sure you secure the nut springs that secure the left and right-side body panels. Two loose nut springs slipped off and fell down into the lower "belly of the beast." I was fortunate to fish one out with a small magnet. I'll replace the other one when it comes in from special order (Nut spring - 5mm Part# 90320-GE2-760). The next time your in the nation's capitol/Maryland area, let me know. I owe you dinner. thanks again
Thank you Chris !!! This is probably the best GL1800 filter replacement tudor online . Subscribed to your channel , keep up the good work on educating us regular folks . It's much appreciated !!!
Where else would they put the air filter? It’s not as bad as most people make it out to be as they claim it takes three hours. I know people who do it in an hour and a half. Some people joked that Honda laid the air filter on the ground and built the bike around it! 😂🤪😂
Chris thanks so much for this video. I was able to change my air filter using this video. It’s a level 10 project but it can be done. I have the confidence now to do it again some day hopefully years from now! The hardest part is some of the connectors especially the one just under the NAVI screen. I put in the same K&N high flow filter. My air box was full of field peas and what looked like maybe the cooked remains of a mouse. The previous owner obviously had this bike on a farm. So there’s my story. 🤪
Loved the cheering of the crowd. lol I just bought a 2009 with 40000 miles on it and look forward to putting many miles of my own on it. Thanks for the vid!
Watching you change the filter makes me appreciate what the dealer charges. Almost worth it to let them mess with it. Looks like a lot of shit that can accidentally be broken in the process of disassembling all that plastic.
Thank you Chris for this AMAZING Video. I Believe You will be Helping Many GoldWing Owners Change Their Own Filter saving them Many $$$. When I Meet you In Person, I'd Love to Buy Your Lunch/Dinner as a Token of My Thanks to you Personally. Thank You for Serving GoldWing Owners Everywhere with Your Helpful Videos. May God Bless You as Well.
Thank you sir for your detailed instruction on changing my air filter. Couldn't have done it without you. I'm a very visual learner and your video was the cats meow!!!!
came across your channel and Holy Cow batman, what a lot of work just to change out the air filter, and to top it off you have to put it all back together. Honda sure doesn't make it easy for ya on these Gold Wings. great video by the way.
Gawjus bike, I’m getting my 2002 gl 1800 next week. That’s a mission getting to the AF, I loved the cheering plus applause , you got big patients mr, top man,, I’ll be saving this vid,,🏴👍👍🍺
Thanks for this video. Something tells me if I try this, I'm going to break a tab, a wire, or something. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, but stuff happens. Thanks for the tutorial. That was great!
thank you so much for the awesome video. I bought a beautiful red 2013 f6b. 48,000 miles. the air filter was occupied at one time by a family of mice. I feared that outcome but it was worse than I expected.
Good job Chris. I did mine about 18 mos. ago and I'm due to do it again. Not an easy job. It requires patience and ( for me) about 4 hrs. of time. I enjoy all of your videos keep up the good work.
Well hello again Chris this is Emmett.. that was a great demonstration my friend but from all that work you had to do I think I will just let the dealer do that when I change out the filter when it's time to change out the filter but I will certainly buy that filter that can be washed and reused that's a great idea. I truly do want to save this my good friend they did not make this Goldwing mechanically friendly just watching all the changes you had to go through just to get to the air filter.. was just crazy... and I am truly going to let Honda manufacturers know this.. Oh and PS my friend you should let us know the tools that you are using such as the one you used to pull out cans with you should let us know the tools that you are using if they are magnetic tip or what have you we would like to know that that's very important.. but that Applause at the end of your demonstration was truly truly needed by friend for all of that work you had to go through just to get to the air filter I just had to laugh,,👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Chris, saw this and decided to give a look see. My hat is off to you, but I'm keeping my Harley. I'll break something on the GW. I can change my AF and do an oil change in all three holes by the time you get to your AF. Keep up the good content...
Great Video... However you have convinced me that an air filter change is way above my pay grade... Thought I would attempt it... After seeing this instruction video from beginning to end.. nope, well worth the money spent for the expert to do that!!! Thanks for the info!!
DIY if you like wrenching & Saving $$$ I did mine on the 2012 GL1832 and will do it on my 2018 GL1833 DCT Tour and spend labor money from Honda on something else! Plus, I will know it's done correctly. Nothing like peace of mind and keeping the $$$ in my wallet.
Great Video Chris! You have to have extra patience while doing that job. You almost had me with doing mine and then I said No Sir take it to the shop. Lol 😂

Make sure you put THIS VIDEO in Your FAVORITES, Your gonna want to MASTER Changing Your Own Air Filter. $500-$1000 per Year will but Many Accessories and Toys, I'm not Donating that kind of Money in Exchange for some of my Time and a Whole Lot of Patience. Thanks Chris for sharing this video and it was a great help for me to perform my 1st air filter installation! I've posted photos of the installation on your Facebook page! Anyway, thanks again and God bless! Your boy RedR✌
Thanks for this video !!!!! … I have the confidence to do it myself now. I'm going to take pictures as I go and use plastic bags for the fasteners with labels where they go but if I get lost I know I can recheck this video for help.
Complimenti per l'impegno, per la bravura dimostrata e ancor di più per la pazienza!!! E' molto impegnativo cambiare il filtro aria alla Honda Gold wing! Sinceramente non me l'aspettavo così complicato! Cmq i miei più grandi complimenti!
thanks Chis your video was very enlightening. i have to change mine , nice to know how much time is involved. great job

I am currently in the middle of this job on my 2012. What a job! But, I have the videos from Cruisemans Garage and that really makes it possible, if not easy. Just takes patience. Don't do this job if you are in a time crunch, lol.
I have a 2003 Goldwing with 52,000 miles on it. Replaced the air filter at 30,000 when I bought it. Guessed that after 22,000 miles the A.F. might need replacing. Nope! Looked as good as the day I put it in. I'll go 40,000 miles this time.
Hope you oiled that KN before installation, I always buy 2 so one is cleaned, oiled n dry ready for swap out. Thanks for showing us that it can be done, good winter project. Ride safe.
Thanks for giving me the inspiration to do my 2003! Would you know or anyone the possible cause of a little oil by the left intake 🤔.... she still runs great
I asked one of the commenters below if the airbag module removal needs to be done and how to do it safely. They can be dangerous. Suggestions on a 14 airbag model?
Hi Chris, I just bought that filter and going to put mine in a couple weeks from now. Did you notice any improvement in performance with K&N versus the standard filter? Thanks
Unreal, all that just for air filter change. Could Honda have made this any more difficult? I don't think so. I'm not sure I wanna tackle this. Great video! Mucho thanks. Really good video. I started laughing at the applause, but they were well deserved!! 🤣🤣 I wonder what my filter will be like. It's been awhile and I think my MPG has taken a noticeable reduction.
Very good video which helped me break down the shelter on my 2013 F6B and replace the air filter. How much does this cost at the dealership (I'd guess $300)... loved the applause when you finally got the air filter out! ha
What MPG should I expect from a 2002 GL1800? Right now, I am averaging 30 MPG and seems a little low to me. I have only had it a week or so. Love the bike but might move to something else if I can't get it closer to 40 MPG. I have been riding it very easy and getting to OD as soon as possible 40 MPH or so.
Wow, Chris what an amazing video. I just purchased a 2008 GW for my 50th B.Day. 23k miles. How can I tell if I need a filter change? Will the bike surge at idle give some other symptoms? Thanks again for the vid. I laughed when the clapping started.
It would be so easy to have just given up the front box where the airbag goes to and some how incorporate a slide in air filter to the box but no, honda had to make this a crazy difficult task. Just insane.
Are/Were you a Honda tech?
No, Honda will not recognize me.

I found insulation and shop rags, when i opened mine
Some Honda Engineers started with the Airbox and then built the Goldwing around it... after it was done they said "Oh well we can't change that anymore and frankly the dealer can make some money to install it for the customers."
Dealerships know that it's more profitable to service a bike, that's why they want you to bring it back to them for routine repairs and service.
Marcus Aurelius I was only joking , I try to work on Black-ice every chance I get ,, I try not to give Honda any of my money if I can help it

Thanks for the video Chris. I just changed mine with a K&N also and it was a chore doing it but made a lot easier with your help. Awesome work!!!
That was very well done Chris. I don’t know why Honda would design a bike in such a way that an air filter would require bike disassembly.
Where else would they put the air filter? It’s not as bad as most people make it out to be as they claim it takes three hours. I know people who do it in an hour and a half. Some people joked that Honda laid the air filter on the ground and built the bike around it! 😂🤪😂
