Long time Harley rider, most recently a stage two Road Glide. I absolutely loved the Road Glide. I test rode a 22 Goldwing DCT after an 18 hour ride from Key West to KY. I bought the Gold Wing. I ride long distance and absolutely love this bike. You gotta try the DCT transmission Sandy! Also they increased the capacity of their tour pack in 21. You can store two full face helmets with communicators. I’ll probably buy another Harley for short trips. But I am loving the Goldwing.

Tom. I hear more and more stories like yours. I have always rode a goldwing starting with a gl1200 in 1990. My friends rode Harleys and always doged my decision. Until I let them ride it. Now they all own goldwings and we ride together from time to time. The best long distance bike hands down. Ride safe Tom.

When I hear someone say reverse is a gimmick I think they are a newbie. Not to be offensive but when you ride many miles and take many trips REVERSE is a must. So refreshing that you're open minded to other brands and I give you mad props. I'm a H-D guy too; although I've ridden a 6-speed manual GW (2022) and respect it for what it is. It's incredibly refined and a wonderful feat of engineering; yet I simply didn't have that intangible soul-connection that we H-D riders always find so difficult to explain to non-H-D peeps.
And also, cool ass cockpit footage! As someone else said, you are definitely unique and the fact that you're a pilot gives you an even greater sense of credibility. Thank you for consistently making such excellent content!

Great video! What I like about the Goldwing is it does everything well. They are not only good touring bikes, but also not bad in the city or commuting. If you can only have one street motorcycle but also ride a fair amount of longer trips, this is the motorcycle to have. Yes my V-twin has a lot of character, but as a senior rider as well as a tall stature, refined is becoming more attractive. Nothing beats riding 500 miles and having enough energy, with the lack of soreness when the destination is reached, to celebrate the day.

Though I am sure it did not damage the GW at all...I don't ride like that (anymore) and would not want anyone riding mine like that either. Overall, nice video of a rider being convinced of a GW's worth on the road. Welcome to GW!

Great video, Sandy. Nice to see you have an open mind about motorcycles. I don't ride a Goldwing, but I have, and love it, a Honda CTX700 DCT (we call it a mini Goldwing) It weighs 480 lbs. and I'm to old to handle 900 lb. bikes anymore. As other commenters have said, you should try the DCT model. Its actually faster, because it shifts flawlessly without having to let off the throttle. As you said, no need to upgrade the suspension, power, seating position, handlebars, etc. on the Goldwing.
By the way, still loving your sharing the airline cockpit experience. You are indeed a unique individual. I'd love to meet you and take a ride with you. Ride safe, Sandy.🙏🏾👍🏾

I sold my Victory last month. After 15 years in the "American cruiser" riding style, its a little odd making the transition to a Goldwing, there's definitely less of that "cool factor". But the bike is so damn good for sporty touring and munching miles two up with my wife that I'm getting over my ego and just enjoying the ride. I hope to catch up with you and the crew sometime at Bikes & Breakfast or one of the other meet ups.. we can hash this out 😉

Thanks for your honest and subjective review of the Gold Wing as a Harley owner. I've always liked traveling on motorcycle (probably because it was cheap on gas). I started with a '75 Honda CL360 which I put 30k miles on. But after my first 3500-mile trip to Colorado from Wisconsin (can you say "twin-tingle"?), I bought a Gold Wing within 3 months. I've now owned Gold Wings for 40+ years (1977 1000, 1984 1200, and currently 1996 1500), and still love them.
My father had a '75 Harley dresser with the old Liberator fairing. It was a fun experience to drive, and that fairing had huge wind coverage, but the mirrors shook so bad you couldn't see anything behind you, and the single headlight was terribly dim. Of course, that was 50 years ago.
I love the mystic of Harleys and their classic sound (and the bottom end torque of those twin-cylinder engines), but the Gold Wings are top-notch for long-distance and comfort... and low maintenance/reliability. It really is a great bike!

You nailed the review. Having owned a GL1800 for over 10 years and now a 2018 Harley Ultra CVO, I would choose the Honda hands down for long distance riding. I have put over 800 miles a day on each. The reverse is very functional.. no more worrying about having to back in on a grade, simply hit the button and it pulls itself up hill effortlessly. The Goldwing while awesome, lacks the ‘character’ of the Harley. Two different types of rides and both excellent. Wanna be bikers have no clue how good the Goldwing is. Personally I would never get the DCT, it takes the fun out of riding for me.

I get it with Harley Davidson. Excellent paint and super culture. This new generation Gold Wing is another level. That is a great looking bike by any standard. As you said. Silky Smooth and quick. A Manual transmission although it’s Honda’s Sport bike clutch does not give a total big picture of what this bike can really do. DCT trans off the line is just hard to out-shift. It’s more Formula One with it’s seamless process of gear changes. It’s a Lexus. You either love them or you do not. In any event, any day on two wheels is a great day. You did get a taste. Harley’s are beautiful but this bike spoils. Especially in bumper to bumper traffic. The other elements are it’s incredible automotive level horn, backlit illuminated console and handlebar switches. Safe travels.

I’ve never heard anybody that rode a GW, saying he didn’t like it! And I have to agree! You can enjoy HD and other bikes , but you will definitely enjoy the wing!

The storage is good on the 21 and up models...distance riding the Honda can't be beat.price also isn't bad when you compare it to a Harley touring bike.

Have to find someplace that has test rides for this bike but, it's apt to get me in trouble. Have a GL 1500 that's butter smooth at 25 years old and rode the 1800 that's even smoother. I can't imagine what this is like but I'm going to find out.

I have a 99, just got it last summer, it;s not the 1800 like you have there. i will get one, one day when they are as old as my 99 LOL. the GL1500 will not raise the front wheel up, they do not go sport mode or sport bike fast, but like you said, they are awesome and run all day, everyday and I am not having to work on the bike on a long trip Oh yeah you didn't say that, I did lol. I dont have harley. Bajajajaaaa I have a bike that cost less than a Harley tune up and tires at the dealership and it will run for 200,000 miles or more. while blasting Lynyrd Skynyrd in the open air like a boss. LOL Great video man. I want to try the 1800 out

Things Ive noticed:lots of rides are to go to another dealer every weekend & beat the sales people to death with another HD story, must buy every thing u wear from socks to underwear have to say HD & look like a HD billboard ,do the toys for tots ride so every 1 revs their engines together while u pull the clutch in especially in underpasses.

I got a deal when WA st governor had state locked down for covid, with big sports or luxury items not selling well. I find I ride GW while working on my Harley! Riders that loan put their bikes to other riders must know bikes get piss rode out of them, like here in "Sports" mode & "I don't usually ride like this"!

I'm a GW 1500 rider, since 92, I can't move up to 1800 cause they took 6 inches away from cockpit and gave it to rider and also the baggage compartments are smaller on 1800s.'s..i guess I'm stuck in my ways with GW. I really would like to move to 1800. With out more space, a trailer would be needed and to me that kills half the fun....still thinking 🤔

The Goldwing takes 87 octane and is water cooled better for hot climates or really all climates and in sport mode is quick the stereo is good the navigation not so much.
