  • This video shows you how to replace the air filter in a Honda 2013 F6B. The video will be helpful if you own a Goldwing to. I'm no expert in bike maintenance, but learned from other RUclips videos and reading maintenance manuals. Plus it's very expensive to have a dealer do the filter change. I'd like to give a special thanks to "tcalof" who put together a really nice video on how to change out the filter. It was very helpful. Thanks for watching and please subscribe.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the great videos you have. I have purchased a F6B last month. I just completed the Air filter thanks to your video. I had a 2002 GW and have done that 4-5 times. Little different on the F6B. Great project completed on a rainy day here in the PNW. Thanks again.

As a new F6B owner, I have been reading horror stories about the air filter change in various forums. Local dealerships charging 2-3 hours labor, and some not even doing the work because you would never know if they changed the filter or not due to the complexity of the procedure. Thanks for this video tutorial, I feel much better about tackling this when the time comes as opposed to paying the dealer $280.00.

Outstanding video. Many thanks! I have exact same bike - black 2013 F6B. I had no trouble tackling this job. Many, many easy steps - go slow. Knowing where those clips were located behind every panel was very helpful. I pulled close to the clips to avoid cracking a plastic part. I did get an inexpensive clip puller and trim kit off ebay which helped. My bike had 24,000 miles and the filter could have gone another 5,000 miles but clearly it was due.
Oh and i did the whole job with one arm. I had my shoulder replaced 3 weeks ago so I had some down time.

@@bgrides2108 I am very pleased with my F6B. Although it’s a barge the performance is far better than I was expecting. I also have a Heritage Softail and a RC51. The F6B is the only bike I take out anymore. None of my riding is on open highway, strictly secondary roads out exploring here in upstate New York.
A couple tips to pass along. (1) Centramatic wheel balancers really work. (2) Maxima Pro Plus is the best oil I’ve found for the GL1800/F6B. I have used Mobil 1 Racing 4T and Rotella T6 several times. These oils either run hot, shift poorly, or break down too quickly. I use Maxima in my KX250F which is a much harsher application than the GL1800 so I gave it a try.
Thank-you again for the video. By far the best one I’ve used.

Thank you so much for making this video sir. I am new to the Wing world after just picking up my (new to me) 08 GL1800. I take pride in wrenching on my own machines and can probably tell you everything you need to know about Harley’s after owning six of them and currently riding an Electra Glide. Servicing the GoldWing looks even easier than a Harley EXCEPT for the air filter.
Even though your bike is newer than mine and the snaps, clips, screws, bolts, straps and other things may be slightly different 🤔….you took the intimidation factor away for me to do this later in the fall. This was the one item I was going to have the dealer do. I already ordered the HiFloFiltro filter you linked to. Ironically I use the same brand on my Harley for the oil filter. Good stuff! I will have to do this soon as I just bought a 2014 F6B that's never had its air filter replaced.
BTW, can you offer any tips on how to remove the side cover at the rear so I could check and see where the preload is set on my rear shock? I opened up the right saddlebag, pulled back a little on the plastic cover for the preload valve but I was only able to peel it off half way, then it seems that the metal tip over bar is getting in the way. I'm not sure how to remove this plastic panel without damaging it.

“And, uh, that’s all it takes to replace the air filter.” Two hours to take it apart, two hours to put it back together, and you wrap up with “And, uh, that’s all it takes to replace the air filter.” You, sir, are deserving of a meme. I’d like to see you do a video about the history of building the Panama Canal: “It cost $639,000,000 (in 1914), cost thousands of lives, took 10 years and three months, and, uh, that’s all it takes to dig a ditch.”

nice to see someone else brave enough to conquer this!! you seemed to have the leaset trouble on getting that first connector off with the needle nose pillars then any other videos, gives me hope, I have 25k on my filter an prob going to be changing soon. how many miles did you have on that filter? Thanks for the video!!

    • @bgrides2108
      @bgrides2108  5 лет назад

Thanks. That connector is really tricky to get apart. It took me a little while and then I tried the needle nose pliers. It probably took me roughly 10 minutes to just get that connector apart. Those little speaker connectors are hard to get apart also for some reason. Maybe because I have 10 thumbs. I ended up putting in a speaker upgrade kit from J&M since everything was exposed which I did a video on... I had about 30K miles on the filter. I thought it would have been dirtier because a group of us rode through Death Valley during a sand storm last summer which lasted about 45 minutes.

@@bgrides2108 good information thanks, I hear people put a lot more miles on it than 30, yours was kind of dirty, better safe than sorry for sure after that ride! LOL . Yeah I saw your video on the speakers, can you tell a huge difference? Hey again if you really are thinking about putting some LED lights on, it would probably be the easiest thing you've ever done, check out my video, I think the light kit was only about sixty bucks and it was perfect for our F6B, everything just fell into place and all you really have to take off is the side panels and the seat. I love my lights! If you can't tell, plus if somebody gets you mad at night you can flip on the blue lights strobe LOL

I typically change mine at about 15k but it can vary to more or less frequent based on the conditions of the roads you ride on. For example, if you ride in an area with frequent road construction and more than average dust you should consider changing at 10-12K.

I want to share my experience with k&n air filter, it seems to not fit properly into the filter housing. I had a filing that if I put on the cover it may not be sealed as it should, so I went to Honda dealer and got a oem filter, fits perfectly and cost the same $ as kn. So I would definitely go with oem, specifically keeping in mind how much work this is😄

Wow those little side panels at the back are a pain to remove! I wanted to pull the one on the right side of the bike to have a look at where the preload adjuster for the rear shock is set, it's a 2014 that I just bought three weeks ago so I don't know how it's set right now.
I started by opening the right saddlebag, then I carefully pulled the back part of that small plastic panel, it started to come out but then I couldn't go much farther because of the u-shape tip-over bar and the top of this plastic panel is wedged under the seat. It appears that the only way to get to the preload adjuster is by removing the seat too!? This just doesn't make any sense, I must be doing something wrong.
