I just bought my first new Gold Wing two days ago. I'm soaking up as much information as I can about various maintenance tasks. This video is excellent! My fellow wingnuts have told me that changing the air filter is definitely a bear of a job but not insurmountable. Maybe not for the faint of heart, but not impossible by any stretch of the imagination. Thank you so much!!
Congratulations on your new bike. Fantastic machines. I’m happy to hear this video has helped you out. You’ll be fine doing it. Many have told me that they got theirs done by watching our video. You can do it. Ride safe.
Just finished changing my air filter and saving $350+ on labor! Thank you very much for this! A person kind of doesn't realize how simple it is until he sees it. :-)
i guess Im randomly asking but does any of you know a way to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Uriel Aden I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
A Townie in Texas here Paul. This video was quite useful helping my neighbor get his bike going that had sat for awhile. Thank you and your wife very much!
Paul & Kathy ... Your video was my "GUIDING LIGHT" for the last 2 days !!! Bit the bullet and did the dreaded "Gold Wing air filter change" !! 3 hours to disassemble (carefully) last night, 2 hours to reassemble the next morning. Actually, wasn't as bad as I thought .. Not difficult, WAS time consuming and there were LOTS of parts to deal with! Just took my time and all was good! After reassembly, she fired up perfectly, everything WORKED, and there were no leftover parts !!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU for this video. Just finished this job and there was no way I ever could have ever completed the job without this video and your help. Again thank you and keep up with videos. Thanks, Bob
Greetings. I just completed the air filtre change on my 2005 wing. Thanks to your video it was not that big of a deal just time consuming as I went slowly. Just about had it buttoned up when I realized I forgot the air intake horns, so take off the deck again. Probably don't need the horns but put it together properly. Lo and behold everything worked! The worst part was getting bolts in to hold the seat. Now have to work up the courage to take apart the cruise control switch which keeps jamming. Your videos are very much appreciated.
Paul & Kathy - Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tech tips for the GL1800. I've used several of your videos to assist me with maintaining my GL1800.
Just bought a 04 gl1800, so with these videos I will be able to maintain my wing to get the most out of it. The gl1800 is new to me but not wrenching. so this RUclips University is great for adding to an old man's knowledge. Thanks, It was well worth watching.
Just watched a couple of videos and well done!! Although I don't have an 1800 yet I'm amazed at how Honda made changing the rear tire and oil change simpler but made changing the air filter more of a challenge...oh well, at least we have videos like this to help guys along. Keep up the good work!!
I know this video is over 2 years old, but THANK YOU for putting it out. I just changed the air filter on my wing while installing a CB. Although it is not an "easy" job this video made it bearable.
Hi Paul;Really enjoying your videos! I have a 2008 Goldwing with about 30K miles on it. Just had it in to have the air filter, front forks seals replaced and the recall done for the rear brakes. After watching the videos I'm sure glad I had the shop do it because even though I work as a mechanic I'm not at all set up at home to take on some of these tasks. Makes you understand a little more why they charge so much to do this.....I would too! Keep up the good work!!!Daryl
The effort of engineering and design to make this machine is astonishing. I have the same year bike as yours, but I have heated seats and its gold colored. Thanx for the vids.
I do not own a Wing, but I have changed air filters in other bikes. Amazing how much has to be removed just for the air filter. I did enjoy the vid. The more you know, the better!
Well it's really a Honda Accord without the top lol and there's a lot of technology stuffed in there. I enjoy working on the wing although they really don't need to be worked on very often.
Paul, the more I watch this video and a few like it, the less intimidating it seems to be. It looks like a number of small steps to be accomplished in a certain order. I am going to take the 08 into the shop for the 24k service and inspection but after that and going forward, I will be doing all the regular maintenance on my own. The fluids look super simple. Way easier than my Harley and that is also easy enough
That’s great. None of it is terribly bad but there’s always a sequence to doing anything. ABS Wings like mine need a little extra care with the breaking system so if yours has ABS then my absolute advice would be to pick up a factory service manual. It will pay for itself on the first repair. Thanks for watching and ride safe.
Once you ride a bike with ABS brakes you’ll never go back to the old school. Believe me. It’s true. They are so good in fact all Canadian Wings have them as standard equipment on every Wing.
I love your restored goldwing She's a beauty also love the trailer for the other bike your videos not only teach me and my wife but make us laugh you are a great bunch and your does awesome videoing you make a great team Thanks for responding enjoy your Christmas, new year, and the snow.
I enjoy your videos, I don't comment much because I watch on a kindle or roku, but I believe I have seen them all. Many thanks to you and Kathy for numerous hours of enjoyment. Mike W in South Carolina, USA
+Michael Williams Thank YOU Michael. We appreciate your kind words and we thank you for watching our videos. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Keep safe.
I had a 2008 Goldwing same color. Kept it for 2 years, my wife stopped riding and I traded it for my Harley. I never had a problem with the Goldwing and only changed the oil and filter. After watching this, I am not sad that it's gone before I needed to change the air filter. Quite the job. If you have never been on a GW it is hard to understand that they are not like any other bike out there. It rides and handles better than anything in it's class, if it has a class. I do more short rides now and for that I like the rawness of the HD. But if I ever go long distances again, it will be on a GW.
+Vader1957 Man I've had over 40 bikes in my life. Had a lot of British bikes, metric bikes and a few US built bikes and the one I've always went back to was Honda but Honda was my first and I worked for Honda as a tech for three years so that's why the loyalty. No one builds the perfect anything my friend.
Great Job Paul, nice video and explanation, You had commented on the right side lockable storage, and forgetting to hook up the cable. I took the cable off at the keyed end and left the cable attached to the storage box. Just in case. Thanks Chuck.
Paul you are one sound guy and Mrs. Short is some woman to do the filming for all us you tubers.. Keep up the good work. I been watching for some time know and I really enjoy all the vids you do. Merry Christmas to you both.
+Shaun James Thank you Shaun. We appreciate your kind comments. We also appreciate you being part of our RUclips family. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Wow, and here I thought changing the air filter would be as simple as the oil change video you made. I don’t look forward to disassembling my GW to change out a $15 filter. Thanks, Honda.
I am very excited I just bought my first Goldwing from a local dealer a used 2005 GL 1800. Thank you for your videos they have been a big help. Your bike looks amazing for it's age
Right on Paul . I watched your video a couple of times and went out and changed the air filter . You made it look easy and it wasn't that bad at all . Thank You
Paul ..There's no doubt that Honda makes a good engine, I have had no real trouble with the ones I had. The only time I had engine trouble, was on a bike that was abused or little maintenance. Also I can't express enough to do a pre - trip inspection on your bike before you ride every time !!! This has saved my skin many times eg : nail in tires, lose bolts, worn parts etc. Always check before you ride !!.......Play safe and have fun ....all is well !! Wish you safe riding !!
You got to be kidding me.all that just to replace an air filter.wow! Thank you for this video.I'll keep my 65 panhead.it was 2 years old when i got her.again i love your videos.thanks
Changing the filter isn't that bad lol. I'd never replace the Ike due to that. That being said we all have our preferences. Thanks for watching and ride safe.
...and I was grousing about how tough it was changing the air filter on my 1500 Boulevard. Talk about having to suck back and reload... Anyway, great video(s) and I'm now caught up. All the best to you folks.
Sadly sold the bike before moving out the wet coast. Couldn't afford the government insurance they wanted for the bike. $2400/year was outrageous. Only had 20,000km on it. My truck insurance is horrible as well, but they must think bikers are suicidal. Bad as it is, it's worse on the mainland. Just an example of what could happen on the Rock if you vote the wrong way provincially.
+Bryan Walker Omg. That's awful. It would shut everything down here if the insurance went up like that. Sorry to hear you don't ride now. I'd really miss it if I couldn't ride.
Riding is a passion of mine and while I choose to ride Harley's, I like all motorcycles. I'm just not sure I'd ever change an air cleaner if I had a wing! Nice one Paul and Kathy.
+wyattoneable I've had a lot of makes and models and ended up being loyal to Honda but just imagine if we all liked the same stuff. What a boring world we would live in. I love Harley too. The air filter really Isn't that bad. Ride safe my friend.
Love watching you Mr... I am a GL1800 rider. Looking forward to do the same ... Hunting down the Air-filter. But first the Oil. Regards DD A Belgian in Cape Town SA .
Intimidating project for something so simple as an air filter. Very helpful, Thanks. Time to start cleaning up the garage and making lots of space on the benches to hold all this stuff.
Richard as bad as it appears it's really not bad. Just take your time and go by the video. If you have any questions just post them on this video and I'll answer them.
Paul, just ordered the air filter. Will probably get the project started right after first of the year.. gives me a few days to clean the garage and make some space for parts. Changing subjects... are you on PEI or in N.B.? Three buddies and I will be heading that way in August/September for a few weeks.
Purchased my Goldwing used from a fella that did not ride it much. It only had 11,000 miles on it. I did the filter change after reviewing a video on how to do it. Wow man that is the only maintenance that I hate to do. I put a K&N filter to extend the changing schedule but now after putting 25,000 miles on it I got to look again and swap it.
Love watching your videos, between bikes at the moment but counting down the time to the next one . Keep up the good work . Cheers from Martin in Adelaide, South Australia .
Thank you very much Martin. Appreciate your kind comments. Happy to hear you enjoyed the videos. Keep well and ride safe from Bay Roberts,Newfoundland, Canada………..Paul
That Air filter was filthy!! That's the way mine will look, because I'm in no hurry to do this. 40,000 K ? It may be the original, but I thought the OEM was red. Great video. thanks
Paul I really enjoy your videos. Every chance that I get I love to see things on the Gold Wing. In 1969 I started riding a Honda CL175, now I ride a Harley, but I'm really on the fence for a GL1800. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Freddy. My first bike was at the age of 10. That was in 1970. It was a Honda Z-50. Mini trail like the one intestored in our video. I've owned Harley's and loved them all. It don't matter what you ride as long as you ride. Ride safe and happy Holidays. Thanks for watching.
That was one heck of a time consuming project that had to be done. Much cheaper for you to do than having it done. What about a K&M filter or don't you like them or maybe it doesn't matter since it's not a two minute job. Great job, great video, Paul.
+Jake Schisler I'm not a believer in K&M filters. They state higher HP and I don't believe it. No matter what's in the bike for a filter it still needs to be serviced so it's just as well to toss it when it's time to do it again. Thanks for watching.
That's crazy! Why wouldn't they position the standard maintenance stuff in a more practical location? Do you have to take the engine out to change the oil?
I bought a 13 K miles 2002GL 1800 from the original owner in 2019..Thats 18 years old.He had never changed the air filter.. When I saw how complex it seems to get at the air cleaner on a GL 1800, I thought it was nuts also. But as long as you keep each bolts/screw In the exact order you removed them, I did it by using a half cardboard box and labeling each screw as I took it out and placing it in holes i put in the cardboard box.. it was actually not that bad. You have to look at it like this:It’s not one big job that you need to have six hands to do. It’s about 30 simple little jobs that you do one at a time... take out one screw, poke a hole in the cardboard box, put the screw in the hole, go to another screw, poke a hole in the cardboard box, put the screw in the hole.,, I would suggest you watch the video I put on RUclips in titled, Goldwing made mouseproof.. because, when I removed the lid to replace the air filter, I found a mouse nest inside the air cleaner housing..it’s not the first time I found mice living inside air cleaners.. take some pictures/videos along the way you can reference in case..It really is not that tough of a job, and you will be more familiar with your machine when you’re done
Man you amaze me. How in the heck can you put that back together again? Oh I could take it apart but putting all back together again and having it work is entirely different. Hats off to ya, well done. Love that bike! Love mine - most comfortable smooth powerful bike I have owned.
+PAUL GOLDWING Hey I'm amazed myself that it went back together lol. People don't understand the why Wing owners are so loyal to their bikes and that's because they haven hit the open road on one. I've had people say to me "That's not a bike" My reply is "It's more of an experience than a bike". Remember. You meet the nicest people on a Honda :)
Is it cheaper to go to a Honda repair shop or buy all these tools and the manual and rent a shed for this diy-filter-change? And all the other parts that will be damaged if you are not experienced enough? But it's always great to listen to your very detailed explainations. Always something to learn. Great job. Have fun with your bike and take care.
+Torsten Brunke Well of we're looking at cost I was probably better off leaving the bike at the dealership when it was new but I really enjoy the bike including working on it so I don't mind. Keep well.
As usual great video Paul. Thanks for taking the time to record this. I'll be tackling the job myself in the not too distant future so your vid will be very helpful. Take care.
+Steve Rob It's a little complicated looking to some. To me it's another day in the office. I've worked on far more complicated vehicles. This is one time I can't rely on Luc to get it back together lol.
Luc if I was there like you I would have put a wind up alarm clock up on the motor some where and for sure he would have had the bike stripped down to its skivvies in no time. LOL
He started at 9:15 and got it out about 11:30...2+ hours just to get to the filter. And he knows what he's doing. The GL1800 has the "Dealership Shop Permanent Employment" design, I take it.
@@7863348 Looked like your shop clock was at 9:15 when you started, then about 11:30 you've got it all apart and the dirty filter out when you take a drink of soda or whatever. Guess I missed something in your edit. How long DID it take to get it all apart to the point of pulling out the dirty AF? i was also sarcastically referring to how complicated this process seems, encouraging folks like me to just take it to the dealer. And you were experienced; it would take me half a day. No offense intended; good video. Thanks.
Hello. I have just bought a 2002 Gl 1800. Anything special i should look out for apart from the frame welds? The bike got a new frame as a recal. The real brake master cylinder was also replaced as a part of a recal.
Keep an eye out for the front fork seal. Disable the anti dive on the fork and the seals will last forever. Google the info on that. Use a battery tender at all times when the bike is parked for extended times. That’s what ‘I do. Great bikes.
Hi John, great video changing filter. Ive got a problem getting the front right hand pocket compartment open. Turning the key nothing happens & I want to know is there a couple of ways to resolve this issue so I can open the compartment.
Well, lesson for the day. If I want to ride I'll be firing up the Mustang. It's complicated enough. :) That is not a job I'd want to do. My hats off to you for being able to do it but I'm not surprised that you can. If I ever did get a bike it would have to be a lot less complicated. Thanks to you and Kathy for the video and Luc for helping. :) Take care, God Bless! Levi~~
@@7863348 Yes I did, thanks. I takes some time but I'd done it before. I used your method of using a cardboard box, pizza box, to organize the bolts and pieces as I took them off. That works great. I used the K & N air filter which fits well. Only issue is that it's not as firm as the original one so I had to make sure it was seated properly before reinstalling the cover. Thanks again.
This job needs a little time with a shop manual. The first time I did it on my 04 it took me about 6 hours. The dealers charge on average 250 plus. The more you do it the better you get and if you can do her under 2 hours you got it licked. A good shot of screech might also help. Hope you and your wife are still doing Wing videos.
Wow Paul, their is a air filter down there....LOL I think Luc can put it back together, lol. Lot of wires to have fun with...lol I'm guessing that they have different plug ends on them so they cant be plugged up wrong? If not, going to be more of a challenge for Luc..lol have fun Luc. just picking, Great video guys. Thanks for sharing.....
+Paul Short LOL, well I don't know if I could or not, lot of wires to hook up. I most likely would have missed one or two... LOL Luc, I don't blame ya at all, I would have too..... LOL Stay well and safe my friends....
on the little long trim strips on both sides - by the pockets - how do you start them pulling off - is it an up push - down pull - or - how - strips no longer available
Good video I have watched this one before but it just came up again so I watched again man that is a big job I like Honda but why they couldn't have made it easier to change the air filter that's why a lot of them don't get changed when I got my wing didn't get much history with the bike i knew it needed tires I got the tires took it to the guy that does my work great guy very fussy and neat like someone else I watch on RUclips no names mentioned lol had all the fluids changed air filter he found a little oil leak changed the valve cover gaskets and a hair line crack in one of the covers said he could fix it but he knew that I was like and got a new one that was a lot of work on the bike but I knew that everything was good and that's the I like it my god buddy this was a long story you have a great day and great job on the bike
Tom the filter seems like it’s a lot of work to change and it is for the first time but after than it’s not bad. When I did this video I did a total “go through” the bike. The bike now only has 42k on it and it’s as good as the day I bought it new in 2003. I like to keep the bikes in the best possible shape do to the precious cargo I have on with me. It’s great you have a good guy to help you look after yours. Ride safe bud.
Phew! What a job Paul, you can see why it would cost a lot of money to take the bike to a service centre. How long would it take from start to finish putting on a new air filter for an amateur not counting lost screw, clips and temper? As usual I enjoyed your video, and I saw your friends hands for the first time. Ha!
+Motorbiker Miles (motorbikermiles) Although I'm doing other mods and tasks not mentioned in the video I figure It's a three hour job for the air filter. Even in a busy bike shop I'd be worried about scratch's and what ever else they can do. Thanks for watching.
I'm a pretty good mechanic Honda has made a routine job into a nightmare, they could have it going in the side , I have a 1975 gl 1000 time to change air filter 3 minutes if that , thanks for the video. From Ireland
Yes I agree. They could have made it easier to change the air filter but once you do it, it gets easier. Love the 1975 Wings. I restored and still have a 1980 Wing. Love it. Ride safe and thanks for watching. flic.kr/p/2hwVjMK
Yes but I haven’t had it out for the season yet. Pretty busy in the shop. A small bit of oil in the breather box is perfectly normal. It gets in there by way of vapour. You’ll see it in the automotive sector as well. Just ride it like you stole it lol. Ride safe.
Great video guys! your so right about getting out for a ride I don't have motorcycle but my mountain bike cost as much as one nothing better then getting out to the peace and quiet !
I used to think that someday I would like to have a Goldwing. Thanks to you Paul I will pass now!! I tried looking through all your videos and did not see any videos of just you talking about your shop. What size is your shop not including gasoline alley? How high are your ceilings? Really enjoy your videos and all the lessons!
+Edward Cole The Honda GoldWing is arguably the best touring bike in the world. If this one died tomorrow I'd have another one in a week. The work you see me doing is the first work I've done on it in four years. A couple of tires, a few seals and an air filter. It's worth that in my opinion. I'd rather not talk about the shop online. That's why you haven't seen me discuss it in any of the videos. Happy to hear you enjoyed the videos.
A comment and a question. First, this video saved me almost $200 because I replaced my filter myself with K&N instead of having the dealer do it. The question: Where did you get you GPS hood? I have my Gamin Nuvi on a RAM mount, but can't find a hood. Any help would be appreciated. Great video; thanks.
Paul and Kathy,I liked the video, you are really great, I changed bike in summer for a 2006, but still a red, I like red, and I know you to do, Merry Christmas from Kjell from Norway,
+Gold1800Wing Hi Kjell. Congratulations on the new Wing. Nice bike. You know red is the fastest colour ;). Merry Christmas to you and your family. Ride safe my friend.
Hola visto tu vídeo . A ver si me puedes ayudar tengo una goldwing 2008 y no le funciona los puños calefectables ni el asiento. Me podías decir si tiene alguna idea de porque cuando siempre han ido y se repente dejo de funcionar. Gracias
OK is that the same coils mine an 84 interstate 47km on it . I got it because it was cheap to me And pland down road . I came form sport bike like duc 748 1089 cbr600 to rr and know they aren't made the same . I've got it handled pretty dissent just seem lazy to .
Was wondering if you had a video regarding fixing cruise control lag, as in when you select the cruise the bike the speed drops several mph before it connects and takes it up to the selected speed. Works great other than that. 2005 Honda goldwing.
To Paul, I would like to know if it is possible to fix the led lights on the trunk of my 2005 goldwing I have 4 of those little lights out on a group of 8. Your help and response would be appreciated. Ps. They were pushed in a little like the light was bumped by something. Thanks for any advice. John and hope
Yes they can be repaired. You’d need to know what your doing or bring the strip to an electronics person and they can do it. If it’s made by Kuryakyn you might be able to purchase replacement parts. Ride safe.
I was just wondering if you could help me out with a spark problem I have a 2002 Yamaha V Star that is not getting any Spark I have changed the coils and the plugs and a battery anything else you may think it could be thank you for your time
Hey Paul, thank you for putting together the video regarding air filter replacement made things pretty easy. After putting everything back together I have a ticking noise that is coming a cross the speakers. Any thoughts where I may have went wrong?
Hi there, I just bought a 2005 goldwing and I was watching your video to replace the air filter, very informative thanks a lot. One question, what brand are the lower air deflectors? By the radiator? Mine doesn't have it and I am planning to buy them. Thanks again.
Thanks Paul. I meant the cruise control cable adjuster (to eliminate lag). It's the in-line cable adjuster with the long adjustment nut and small locking nut. It's to the right of the steering head. From what I can fathom, on my 04 I think the whole of the top shelter (dummy tank) has to come off but for later models I think just the speaker assembly and ignition key surround need to be removed. Basking here in the UK sunshine at the moment.
To my old memory it’s not far from the cruise module. Once you see the module just follow the cables and you’ll find the adjuster that’s why I mentioned the module. Either way the full shelter needs to come off to gain access. It’s 28c here in Newfoundland which is about 14c to hot for me lol.
I got a 2005 1800 no power to dim lights I was putting it in reverse and dimmed the light and they went out I’ve checked fuses and relays and I don’t know what else to check please can you help 😊
Thanks to you and your great video I tackled this job and changed my air filter. 2 hours and fifteen minutes. Thank you.
Looks like its my turn randy wish me luck.
@@erickstanford519 no sweat you got this.
@@buddyobuddy1 man, randy it took 3 hours had to replace ECM, originally. Just figured i might as well change the air filter to. Thanks.

Extremely complicated to change Filter ..... Easily explained ... Hats off..
That’s true but the Goldwing is an awesome motorcycle. Thanks for watching. Keep well
Just finished changing my air filter and saving $350+ on labor! Thank you very much for this! A person kind of doesn't realize how simple it is until he sees it. :-)

Greetings. I just completed the air filtre change on my 2005 wing. Thanks to your video it was not that big of a deal just time consuming as I went slowly. Makes you understand a little more why they charge so much to do this.....I would too! Keep up the good work!!!Daryl
The effort of engineering and design to make this machine is astonishing. I have the same year bike as yours, but I have heated seats and its gold colored. Thanx for the vids.
So true. A lot of engineering gone into it. Nice bikes though. Ride safe.
They should put a disclaimer on the air filter package that says mass assembly/disassembly required haha, great video
+CarolinaFarmWeld
That's a good idea lol.
Well, kudos for taking the time to make these videos. There are many here that may never comment on it, but a huge thank you for all that you do.
@@7863348 … No ABS on my bike. But the standard brakes are spot on
Once you ride a bike with ABS brakes you’ll never go back to the old school. Believe me. It’s true. They are so good in fact all Canadian Wings have them as standard equipment on every Wing.
I have a 2005 like yours has 39,000 paid 9,200 you are awesome and a great help Thanks so much. John
You did good John. Great bikes. Glad it helped you out. Thanks for watching. Merry Christmas.

Thank YOU Michael.
+Vader1957
Man I've had over 40 bikes in my life.

Thank you Shaun. We appreciate your kind comments. We also appreciate you being part of our RUclips family. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Thanks Paul and Kathy! From the Great State of Missouri! Christine and I ride a 2016/ 1800 Audio comfort. Love It.
Thank You
after watching your video i was able to change my own oil and filter on my 2012 Goldwing thanks God bless....
That's great. Nice to hear. Ride safe on that beautiful bike.
Thanks...
+frank roden
Great advice my friend and advice I support 100%.
Wish I still had my 70FL. By the time he got that air filter changed I could Have my whole motor out just to polish the rocker boxes.
Paul & Kathy learning something every time I watch one of your video's. Thank you again.
Thank you for watching.
You have that right Paul. It's not what you ride but that you ride.
+Rick Anderson
No matter what brand. I've never seen a bike I didn't like. Ride safe buddy.
...and I was grousing about how tough it was changing the air filter on my 1500 Boulevard. Talk about having to suck back and reload...
Anyway, great video(s) and I'm now caught up. All the best to you folks.
+Bryan Walker
Ha ha. The Boulevard is a gorgeous bike. Gee you ride, got a BX. Man we're practically twins lol.
+Bryan Walker
Omg.
+wyattoneable
I've had a lot of makes and models and ended up being loyal to Honda but just imagine if we all liked the same stuff.
Thank you. Hope it all went well for you. Great bikes. Keep well and ride safe. Paul in Newfoundland, Canada 🇨🇦
$ 55.00 us at O'Reilly's just checked today. Great vid.
Thank you. Happy Easter
+Jake Schisler
I'm not a believer in K&M filters.
It’s about 30 simple little jobs that you do one at a time... take out one screw, poke a hole in the cardboard box, put the screw in the hole, go to another screw, poke a hole in the cardboard box, put the screw in the hole.,,
I would suggest you watch the video I put on RUclips in titled, Goldwing made mouseproof.. because, when I removed the lid to replace the air filter, I found a mouse nest inside the air cleaner housing..it’s not the first time I found mice living inside air cleaners..
take some pictures/videos along the way you can reference in case..It really is not that tough of a job, and you will be more familiar with your machine when you’re done
Man you amaze me. How in the heck can you put that back together again? Oh I could take it apart but putting all back together again and having it work is entirely different. Hats off to ya, well done. Love that bike! Love mine - most comfortable smooth powerful bike I have owned.
+PAUL GOLDWING
Hey I'm amazed myself that it went back together lol. People don't understand the why Wing owners are so loyal to their bikes and that's because they haven hit the open road on one. I've had people say to me "That's not a bike" My reply is "It's more of an experience than a bike". Remember. You meet the nicest people on a Honda :)
Thanks for the video. I've had a 1200,1500 and now a 2005 GL1800. This will really help. I'm going to watch your other shows too.
Your kindly welcome. Happy to hear you enjoyed it and that it will help you out. Ride safe.
Cripes!! what an evolution that was. Just for an air filter.Something so fundamental should be easier to get at! Very interesting cob. Ta!
+gopha533
It's really not that bad but it do take time to do.
Good thing Honda made it easy to change the air filter!
😅😂🤣
Is it cheaper to go to a Honda repair shop or buy all these tools and the manual and rent a shed for this diy-filter-change? And all the other parts that will be damaged if you are not experienced enough?
But it's always great to listen to your very detailed explainations. Always something to learn. Great job.
Have fun with your bike and take care.
+Torsten Brunke
Well of we're looking at cost I was probably better off leaving the bike at the dealership when it was new but I really enjoy the bike including working on it so I don't mind. Keep well.
As usual great video Paul. Thanks for taking the time to record this. I'll be tackling the job myself in the not too distant future so your vid will be very helpful. Take care.
Glad it helped you out. Ride safe.
Nice, looks like you were taking the space shuttle apart. There's no way I'm putting that back together haha , well done 👍👍
+Steve Rob
It's a little complicated looking to some.
Im sorry. I don't understand what your talking about. This video? I never took 2+ hours to take the filter off!
Bin gerade dabei und Dein Video hat mir sehr geholfen.
Danke 👍👍
Levi~~

+David Traywick
I didn't get paid. It's out bike lol. It's not to bad to do. Had worst. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I'll tackle this on my 2003 Wing. Not really looking forward to it but has to be done. 👍
Did you get it done Jim?
Ya know Paul, you just convinced me to purchase a 2008 GW 1800 that I've been eye balling. Thank you.

on the little long trim strips on both sides - by the pockets - how do you start them pulling off - is it an up push - down pull - or - how - strips no longer available
Start on the bottom inside pulling towards the outside. Working upwards. Very easy. They are replaceable. On line by parts pit
Great explanation ,thanks Paul!
Your kindly welcome. Ride safe 👍
Phew! What a job Paul, you can see why it would cost a lot of money to take the bike to a service centre. How long would it take from start to finish putting on a new air filter for an amateur not counting lost screw, clips and temper?
As usual I enjoyed your video, and I saw your friends hands for the first time. Ha!

Although I'm doing other mods and tasks not mentioned in the video I figure It's a three hour job for the air filter. Even in a busy bike shop I'd be worried about scratch's and what ever else they can do. Thanks for watching.

You are VERY much appreciated 👍👍
Paul, do u ride the gl1800 anymore? What would cause a little oil in the air filter box?
Yes but I haven’t had it out for the season yet. Pretty busy in the shop. A small bit of oil in the breather box is perfectly normal. It gets in there by way of vapour. You’ll see it in the automotive sector as well. Just ride it like you stole it lol. Ride safe.

The Honda GoldWing is arguably the best touring bike in the world.

Hi,
Thanks for the upload. What a pain in the arse!
Do you always use oem air filters or do you consider any upgrades
I’ve always used oem. They are engineered for the bike and they’ve always worked well.
I haven’t that issue but there is a procedure to fix it in the GL1800 factory service manual.

Ride safe.

Hi Paul, do you have tutorial replace speedometer for GL1800 2004
Hey Paul, thank you for putting together the video regarding air filter replacement made things pretty easy. After putting everything back together I have a ticking noise that is coming a cross the speakers. Any thoughts where I may have went wrong?
Hi there, I just bought a 2005 goldwing and I was watching your video to replace the air filter, very informative thanks a lot. One question, what brand are the lower air deflectors? By the radiator? Mine doesn't have it and I am planning to buy them.
Thanks again.
I bought the bike new in 2003. I honestly don’t remember the manufacturer. Glad you liked the video.
Ma il contamarce elettronico su una Goldwing 1008 del 2001, dove va collegato? Grazie
Always enjoy your vids. Does the whole top shelter have to come off to access the cruise control adjuster?
The cruise module is right above the air filter box . You will see it at 9:54 of the video. Thanks for watching.
