Good video.I remember there was a rubber gasket option for the Austin A 40 -55- and 60 Probably the morris engine too. Viewing from westcoast Canada.

Excellent. I was always taught to check the valve clearances first making a note of which ones were out of adjustment so you knew the improvement would be made. From memory valve adjustment was every 12,000 miles.

Is there any chance you could do a video on replacing the distributor? Your way of explaining and showing things makes it simple even for a novice to learn to do these things.

It would have been nice to hear the engine running a before and after to show the difference that the adjustment makes to the running of the engine

I've just bought a 1970 saloon and found this really helpful and easy to follow.
Any chance you could do a vid on stripping down and cleaning up the Carburettor please?

Had an 69 MGB that I bought new .Uses the same procedure. Not sure if the clearance is the same. Surprised to see cork gaskets still being used. They work just as good, just need to handle them a little more tenderly. It was an easy engine, and, car to work on.

Great video. Nice and clear instruction.
    Q. Once the rockers are set, is it necessary to adjust valve timing? Thanks in advance.

cheers, and in answer to your Question - No, you do not need to readjust the valve timing, given that your adjusting the rockers a tiny amount, back to where they should be set, bringing all the valve timing back to normal.

Good to have a spare cover so one can put in gasket well in advance and the sealer has more time to take hold

if only i had a spare one, of course, i could have always cleaned and prepared the over as soon as i took it off :)

whilst doing a coolant change on my minor, i was unable to drain any water from the engine drain tap. as it has been taken off. the hole is now closed by a bolt which is a half inch long. after poking about inside with a wire tool there was no coolant came out and i couldnt feel a blockage inside. it felt metalic inside. the wire went in about 2 inches. and came out covered in black gunge which looked like old engine oil. what has happened here please.

sounds very much like the coolant hasnt been changed for a good few years, its possibly sludge if water has been put into the coolant mix, in all honesty im not 100% sure without seeing it for myself, however it is a common feature for the engine coolant taps not to work.

My moggy recently starts coming out from first gear, I can hear a loud bang when it comes out ,but drives fine in all other gears, any guess why it's doing this.
