As a person who has seen the music, this is pretty good. The A section is actually written in 15/16 and the B section is written in 2/4. Your measure 10 is written as 6lets in 2/4, so depending on how you interpret the tempo, it could be different. At your letter C, it says to improvise dynamics and there are no accents written, that’s just what he decided to do for this recording.
Completely agreed with some previous comments, practice is one thing but uploading what is essentially the entire piece is a shameless grab for views (especially when the piece is at such a reasonable price point.) Even should Koshinski be okay with it, it sets an awful precedent. People need to be paying composers and not pirating their work. If you wanna upload transcriptions there is many a jazz solo out there for you try your hand at with out hurting anyone's revenue stream. You really should take this video down
I performed this solo last year as a freshman in high school. Now I'm finding it challenging to find any solos with similar difficulty that I enjoy so do yall have any suggestions?
@ashtonallen5608 I played Variations for my sophomore year solo, had great fun learning it and taking it apart. Overall amazing book and thanks for the suggestion.
Interesting that this is a supposed transcription when there are some notation that’s in the book that’s not exactly performed by Gene and that you happened to use his same notation style. Not very professional or even cool to upload this though, considering his book is relatively cheap and comes with program notes and audio along with a correctly written score. He’s a good composer and he quite literally makes a living off of his works, so uploading “by ear transcription” lacking dynamics and some incorrect notation along with notation you wouldn’t know unless you looked at the score is just distasteful.
Understandable, however, I’m finna poor and could probably spend 40$ on gas to run my car so I can get places instead of playing probably one song and learning stickins and crap from book two
You are disgracing yourself by claiming this a transcription by ear. First, how could you have written the "in sync with a dual personality" performance direction by ear, which is the exact wording used by Gene in his score? Secondly, he is playing a Bb in his video (second note of bars 25 and 33) while the printed score is an Ab. Any trained ear could have spot this difference.
Yeah this is really not cool. Gene spent a lot of time and energy composing this work and having a (poorly done) transcription of it up on RUclips for free is a massive disservice to him. I’ll be sending him a personal text about this one.
Lmao this bitch really sent a “personal text” like I agree that this transcription is disrespectful to the composer and his livelihood but you don’t gotta act all important like that, especially when the “personal text” didn’t do shit
Not cool uploading this. Uploading your transcription of music that is available to buy right now defeats the purpose of transcribing it. If it's for practice keep it to yourself. Otherwise it's taking away from the original.
I think any percussionist would prefer spending the hours necessary to learn a piece in front of proper sheet music than a line of a score on a RUclips video
Yeah I mean it's a cool exercise to practice transcription but this score and 9 others plus mp3s and his technique packet are only $38 on his website and this kind of thing takes away from people actually needing to purchase from him. Especially when it's not even like 80% correct and leaves out Gene's notes about the score. So, not cool in my opinion, and I think you should take this down off youtube.
Do you happen to own the book? I have a friend who owns the book but they are unsure of where their mp3 recordings are, and was particularly curious to hear “walkin on the white”
I'm too lazy for dynamics ok
God if this solo was a thing when I was in high school I would've had so much fun
This is so cool, I wish I had the skills to play this.

Man I Miss having access to a marimba.
That's beautiful. Well done!
This is such a cool piece
That’s pretty gud transcription, only difference from it in music is everything is next level of subdivision down
Thank you SO MUCH for a lovely transcription 🙌🏾
it's not lovely, it's horrible. There is already a score on this piece and this transcription is terrible, it's a disgrace to the writer.
Great!
amazing
Good job man

White Knuckle Stroll by Casey Cangelosi is worth checking out.
Dive deeper into Gene's book, Two. It's a collection of solos all meant for two mallets at the difficulty level of 4-mallet pieces. Great fun.

for two mallets, white knuckle stroll is a nice one. Though for four look into some Minoru Miki works and youll have a nice difficulty
for similar difficulty if you can do 4 mallets then parody is a good one
why not just do the composer a favor and buy the score
I’m gonna play this at .25 to see if I can completely understand…
Nice man!

Could just be a side project and not meant to leech off
Gene. But I do get what you mean.
It says from the book at the start but go off

My friend played this piece. I took a glance once at her score and just saw that in sync part. Also the Bb thing was an accident lol
