Cheers Ollie. Looking to put some shelves in an old house we have. The shelf sizing at the beginning very helpful. I am going to have to come up another front fixing method as no face frame but nothing a routered recessed 45 degree bracket couple not sort out 👍🏻
You can split the shelf in 2(thickness 2x9mm), and do battens down the sides. And just rebate the top and bottom ply over the batten then glue them together around it
Reminds me of what I found from living in old houses with similar looking shelving in alcoves about how the original craftsmen did them, at least in the Victorian and Edwardian period - All the ones I’ve come across had both the back edge and the side ends buried into the plaster by about half and inch. Though I’m not sure if this was from them fitting the shelves before the walls were lime plastered, or channeling out the lime plaster to fit the shelves then making good after - My guess if the former so they didn’t have to allow for non square corners from sloppy plasterwork, as I bet the plasterers were just as bad back in the day! 🤣🤣🤣
this looks really well done , i was fooled by how simple it looked at the start :).... well explained Ollie , got some good tips, or more like ideas here , you make something not easy , look easy .
Only problem with sausage guns is when you open a tube you have to finish the whole tube, if you need to swap from grab adhesive to silicone makes it harder to save the un-used sealant

Glad you mentioned the IPA spray on this vid I see you use it and mention it on the 10k front door vids you posted. I just ordered the same spray off Amazon and gonna give it a try as I do my own sealing too. Love the vids by the way from one carpenter to another you’ve got some skills mate. Love the attention to detail.
Exactly the way I do it, even for the scribe!! all the other joiners on the job say it’s a weird way 😂 they all use a bevel, the way we do it is by far more accurate

Nice mate 👍🏻. For stain grade where you want as perfect as possible in ‘impossible’ or ‘closed ‘ spaces, strips of mdf. Say 75 mm ish and a hot glue gun ( I’ve got ryobi) You can easily and Perfectly scribe every side individually, hot glue it together, I usually add little braces 😂 then bobs you uncle! Perfect every time 👍🏻 Cheers bud

Cheers. Did you test fit of each shelf, after cutting to size, before applying glue?
Yes, mark out, cut, test fit and check/adjust, then groove, check fit, then glue.

23g and i always use stainless for everything. These were 30mm Stainless 23g. They just give enough of a hold for the glue to get it.

Interesting video. Are there any concerns about strength as the shelf is only supported by 4ishmm of wood at the top of the shelves.
Shouldn't be a problem at all. Plywood is very forgiving. Don't try using MDF, just not strong enough.
That disappearing tv unit is good for when the tv licence people come 😂😂

Cheapo beech faced chinese stuff, wouldnt reccomend, costs more to get a nice finish than just using birch!

over the batton? yes but just use a thicker shelf. half lap will show underneath. 10mm of timber lodged ontop would hold a hella lot.
