Have had mine for 2 years. No problems and very, very pleased!! It's an awesome rig!!
I Know this is an older video but Awesome information, I have yet to upgrade the Firmware for my Xiegu is working great. But knowing if this occurs I will know how to fix it. 73
Thanks again for your time and knowledge!
Glad it was a firmware issue and not factory smoke!
I have a feeling that there are a lot of dead G-90s out there. I have the same problem. Radioddity told me to update the firmware too, which I did, and it completely bricked it. Alter consulting with them, I tried the firmware update again, and it started working. This only lasted for a couple days however. It certainly seems related to the firmware, but I’m running 1.79 now and the problems persist. I turn it on sometimes, and it works. When it works, it’s just like a new one… then it just stops. If anyone has any later information, I’d love to hear it.
I'm still running 1.74, and it's been rock solid.
@@Airwaves-Radio I hope it continues for you - I really liked the radio.
Thanx Buzz. I just got mine. I have a furious learning curve to climb. So darn cornfusing! There’s a lot of stuff there to figure out.. Their flyover of some basic issues is disappointing. Little(?) things, like
just simply how to
crack the unit apart, front and back.
How to create settings such that the display factors are optimized. Or- for example, what do the various display colors indicate on the rhomboid of the screen? What does the rhomboid represent and how does one adjust it.
Things such as these!
Thanks Buzz 🐝

The latest hot bugs fix patch is V1.74_build003(beta001) dated 0520020 which is particularly solving also the problem with RX sensitivity loosing after TX release as same as CW Ratio setting is back in menu and there are no more lost steps of VFO encoder. I am recommending to update to this latest revision buddy if you have not yet. Good luck.
I’m having a similar problem with my G90. I don’t have modulation when I key de mic and the reception is zero. Seems like using a dummy load. At first it was sporadic but now it is completely non functional. I already tried to flash de firmware a bunch of times, downgrade the version and nothing solved the problem. Only option I have is wait for the next firmware version and hope it will fix it. If you have any thoughts, that would be great. Thanks!
Just got my G90 last week and having the same problem you had.The only difference mine came with the 1.74 firmware installed. They told me to try reinstalling the firmware. Also the filter settings were not showing the proper parameters.I also loaded it into a dummy load.Sometimes it would show output power then go back to not showing output.
Mine was sporadic at first, then stopped completely. I think reinstalling 1.74 will probably fix it.
I just received mine from Radioddity and it has the same problem, it has tx in AM but nothing in ssb. It has the most up to date driver, V1.78 (Jan 19 2022). I reinstalled the drivers and it still does not transmit. Does anyone have any ideals? Thanks
You can send it back to Radioddity for repair, or least that was an option when I had the problem. At the very least, give them a call.
@@Airwaves-Radio Thank you for the reply sir, I just installed the drivers again and it magically works now, so I am super thrilled. The firmware process is tricky but doable. Ppl need to be sure to click the "1k" box at the bottom when selecting the firmware file. 73's
By the way, talked to South Africa with 20 Watts. Not bad!! That was from the Appalachian mountains in West Virginia.
Great contact!
What band, and what antenna?
@@Airwaves-Radio Think it was 40 meters. I was using the alpha antenna. The whip. Very good antenna!! The radio also, is just amazing. I live right in the middle of the Appalachian mountains and for any radio and antenna to get out that far is remarkable. The Xiegu G90 is well worth the money!!
I have a problem and maybe you can get an idea how to fix it. I completed the 1.78 firmware update on the main unit and was in the process of updating the display unit when the G90 shut down. I can't turn on the G90. I was plugged into electrical power so the unit had power throughout the update process. I cannot turn on the transceiver. . The G90 transceiver was not hot or overheated. Hope you have a suggestion or two.
Factory Reset G90 To complete a factory reset of the G90 press and hold the "FUNC" key and power on the G90. Then press the "PRE" key to confirm the reset or press the "VM" key to cancel the reset. If that doesn't work, I would contact the company you purchased the radio from. Good luck.
Thanks for vid. Which 1.74 you installed? build002 or build003 (beta001)? I guess you have 1.74_build002(beta06) 04302020...
There are two files. One for the main unit(Build002(Beta06)), and one for the display unit (Build002(Beta04)). That's after you unzip the files. here is the link: radioddity.s3.amazonaws.com/G90_MainUnit_FW_V1.74_build002%28Beta06%29.zip
@@Airwaves-Radio Thanks mate. I checked it and it is build002 which is dated 30Apr2020. Last hot bugs fix patch is build003 dated 20May2020 which is particularly solving also the problem with RX sensitivity loosing after TX release as same as CW Ratio setting is back in menu and there are no more lost steps of VFO encoder. I am testing it and I can recommend it. No strange or erratic behavior found and improvements are really helpful. Best regards, Petr OK1RP
So the latest beta changes are all associated with CW use? I don't use CW, so I'm just wondering if it's worth me updating again.
@@Airwaves-Radio The latest f/w fix is not related only to CW use. Even although I did not tested it on SSB I guess that loosing sensitivity of RX after TX release was appeared also on SSB... Except this issue which is particularly solved (not fully as it still appears when ATU tuning cycle is used) it also solve the lost steps on main VFO encoder and few other. But if you have no problem with sensitivity drop of receiver after releasing mic PTT and your TX modulation issue has been solved with last upgrade then maybe you not need the latest one and you can wait for final 1.74 Release. (anyway you can anytime roll back to preview version if you are not happy with new one) Good luck.
Does firmware update have to be in steps or can I start with the latest update? Never had any updates yet.
You can update with the latest version.
@@Airwaves-Radio thanks didn't want to make it into a brick lol
running 1.75 and I developed this problem. Also on my 2nd G90 now. I am quickly loosing faith in this brand which is sad.
If you reload the files, it should fix it. The G90 is my only experience with a SDR , but I suspect that other SDR's have similar issues Did you ever own a computer that never needed rebooting.
Was it not transmitting or just the software not showing the water fall when transmitting?
It would not transmit.
question still remains what caused the problem.
Not sure, but right before the problem started, i had been trying to connect the G90 with the SDR Sharp software program, using the COMM port on the G90. Possibly some feedback through the COMM port?
@@Airwaves-Radio tough call, usually feedback makes a temp change, but perhaps it jammed up a setting I wonder if reloading the old software might have fixed it too, guess time will tell. thanks :)
I had a related problem with my brand new, on ssb bands it burns out like it was in fm or am mode. I keep my mouth shut but I see on the meter that it fries out whatever I asked it for. This of course making me totally unreadable.
I enjoyed the video of the G-90 and I am glad that you got your radio fixed. It would be nice if you would do a shack show of your equipment. And if you will give your call sign . 73 AE4OY WILLIAM A. Peacock,Sr EM-81UF
