I am very grateful for the effort you put into making this video. I recently purchased a G-90 & discovered it had two different versions of firmware installed. I followed the steps in the factory instructions to the tee with no success. I tried using the installation program other sites recommended, but my computer wouldn’t allow me to open it - tagging that program as a virus. Your instructions were clear & effective. Thank you for this & other videos that are helping me learn about this hobby.

Excellent explanation of firmware update. Just got my G90 with the latest version..1.74...so I won't have to do an update for a while, but bookmarked this so I can refer to when I have to.

Hi, thanks for video, I followed your clear instructions with nice tips re turning off power supply to switch radio off when needed. Just to confirm your instructions work for latest Base and App updates to VI.79 as of Oct 11, 2022...thanks

Just found out the hard way, the newest version of Teraterm has more options ("Checksum", "CRC", or "1K"), 1K must be picked or a soft brick results. Soft brick just means a power off (unplug), and power on (plug in, Teraterm connected idling, depress power THEN immediately depress spacebar on computer, proceed with flashing). Your video helped me figure out the 1K as you mentioned, that is a key piece.

@@TheSmokinApe The Chinese govt could have it set up to get an OTA command that bricks it,, like everything they ever made for the internet. Companies aren't private in China, or at least not for long.

the front panel update is insanely difficult. they should have put a longer window of opportunity on boot for updates sake. I was successful the first time I updated the FW on this thing when I first bought it, and I remember the display was difficult, but I got it done, in time. Now I can't get it to update again, I tried my timing on boot and holding down the spacebar at power on, but the unit seems to OL and no response until removing the power cord and plugging it back in. I hate wasting my time on stupid engineering.
Yeah, this update process is a PITA.

I have a problem and maybe you can get an idea how to fix it. I completed the 1.78b firmware update on the main unit and was in the process of updating the display unit when the G90 shut down. I can't turn on the G90. I was plugged into electrical power so the unit had power throughout the update process. I cannot turn on the transceiver. . The G90 transceiver was not hot or overheated. Hope you have a suggestion or two.
Did you try disconnecting from all power sources and then re-apply the firmware.
so, what improvements are in the v1.73 fw??
When i hit the space bar it does not interrupt. it worked fine on the base. but not the head...help...
I would take the radio off power for 30 seconds and start the whole process over. Good luck.
What are the advantages of the upgrade? What do I get out of the radio that I don’t currently have? Thanks for your time in advance.

There is documentation in each that list the bug fixes and new enhancements, I would say that I generally will not upgrade as soon as an update is released because they can also introduce new bugs!

I thought I had it, but after fighting it for two days it’s getting boxed up & sent back.
I have a problem and perhaps you may have an idea how to fix it. I completed the 1.74 firmware upgrade on the main unit and was in the process of upgrading the display unit when the G90 shut off. I am unable to turn the G90 ON.
I was connected to electrical power, so the unit had power all during the upgrade process.I am unable to power ON the transceiver. .
G90 transceiver was not hot or overheated.
Hope you my have a suggestion or two.

When you finish the upgrade you need to disconnect the power completely for like a minute?
@@TheSmokinApe I believe that the upgrade failed and everything went blank during the upgrade. I attempted to upgrade the Display this morning. The transceiver has no visible display. The only way I know the unit is on, is when I press the power button I heard a CLICK, no display or light. However, I am able to enter into the upgrade software. It appears to upgrade, but still no indication of the display or ability to use any functions on the G90. Thank You for your response, I appreciate you taking the time. Ed

Are they updating the radios with newer versions as they are built or are they making and shipping them all from the original firmware. Thanks Jeff KD9OAM
Some vendors are updating it and the newer are supposed to be updated at the factory. That said I would expect to see continued FW updates.

Why doesnt xiegu update their own software once it becomes availible makes perfect sense to me. Are they that lazy that they wont even put the best product out there. Chinese bs.
Well, the radio isn’t network connected so I’m not sure how they would do it. Icom has even released firmware updates for radios like the ic-7300. All that said, the process could be easier 👍
