I absolutely love it and consider it one of my most prized possessions, I use it in my car and continue to add new music to it to this day.
Recently bought a classic 120gb and packed it with long DJ sets and mixtapes, really nice to have a device that only plays music and doesn’t have pop ups and adverts
I remember getting my iPod touch for Christmas 2007 and me and my brother were so excited we found where our parents hid our presents and unboxed the iPod touches we got and played with them for a couple hours then put them back in the box and went to sleep lol
For the longest time I used to use (still have it) a “Classic” with a decent sized drive. Could put my entire collection on that thing. Was great even as I started getting iPhones since their storage wasn’t even close to the iPod. Now I mostly use my collection synced with the cheap Match service since I’ve never found a decent replacement for Apple’s smart playlists. For example, did you know Plex doesn’t use all the metadata available???? If you have a collection from 2000, of 80s/90s music from an artist and have everything tagged “correctly” (each song with its original release date), Plex only looks at the album and a smart playlist of, let’s say, 80s stuff, won’t work. /end rant
4:05 this is the 4th generation. It is the 3rd generation to offer a 20GB drive. The second generation to offer a 40GB drive. The color screen variant "iPod photo" was the first to be offered in a 60GB capacity.
A few years ago, I think it was, I found a pink iPod nano at a Goodwill near me. I plugged it in and turned it on. After I got done checking it out, I turned it off. When I turned it back on, all I got was a white screen. My mom looked it up and that issue is called the "white screen of death". Luckily, I was able to get the songs off of it that I wanted. I now have an iPod touch, and have never had any issues with it. I hope you never have any problems with your iPods that are working!
I actually do the same thing in my car but with 120g iPod Classics. I have three of them: 1 with all my Rock, 1 with R&B, Funk and Hip Hop and 1 with Jazz and Soundtracks. Those things are nearly indestructible and I don't have to fidget with playlists or connections. They are just ready to go. And battery life is back to insane levels after swapping the old with new ones.
Half way through my freshman year of Highschool my parents bought me an Ipod Touch 4th Gen. I wasn’t ready for a smart phone and my old walkman MP3 player died on me after 3 years. I loved it man. It was so nice. I packed it full of music I remember.
Yeah, I relate to your enthusiasm for collecting iPods, the pleasing shapes and vibrant colors are compelling. Also, finding other peoples eclectic interests, even if you end up wiping them, is great way to practice open-mindedness. A perfect use for a small shuffle is to set the iTunes synch to randomize, so you use your entire library as a stock for your random daily or weekly commuter musical experience. The song pairings often blow my mind, sometimes I make a playlist based on a random set from a shuffle. Like George Harrison's "Dream Away" from the Time Bandits Soundtrack > Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit"> Dead Milkmen's "Punk Rock Girlfriend." There is some AD/HD manic/depressive right there. Of course there are days where you ask yourself "Do I really like the Bloodhound Gang and Tchikovsky THAT much?"
The iPod classic is still a great practical device if you're a fan of a lot of records you can't find on major streaming services. Also my dog literally ate my first generation iPod shuffle. She's 15 years old now. She outlived the entire product
Yeah man, I had an iPod shuffle and still do, you are right, these things are quite usefull and fun to collect, I will start collecting them because of your video! Rock on dude!
The one you called the iPod Photo is actually the iPod Video (Classic 5th generation) and the one you called the 2nd generation Classic is actually the 3rd generation Classic.
Rapid Repair does mail order fix and upgrade business, and has kept my five iPods running perfectly to this day. It is still my go -to device, and a joy to use.
A few corrections, if you allow me. iPod that was named as 2-nd gen actually a 3-rd gen iPod, and I used to have one. iPod that was named "photo" is actually 5-th gen iPod Video, and Photo is a color version of 4-th gen iPod, the first one with a clickwheel (with integrated buttons). I have a 4-th gen 20gb iPod from 2004. Replaced the battery twice myself, and it still works. Also I have final 6-th gen iPod Classic 160gb for my Volvo XC70, because car stereo is not support my current everyday player - Sony NW-ZX2. And I still think that classic iPod with a clickwheel - has the most logical, comfortable and easy to use interface and controls to date.
I only owned two iPods. The first was a 5th Generation iPod "Classic" which I bought in a Chicago Apple store and was stolen in a bar in Toronto. I then purchased a 6th Gen iPod classic, which I still own.
Gotta say that the tiny square one with the touch screen really is a great design. Also, may I ask which filter you are using for the fade-ins like on the car photo ?
Gone through about 4 3rd gen nanos, 2 4th gen and just bought a classic on ebay. Easy to use, no ads to sit through like on things such as RUclips music and as you said great for the car. Good nostalgic video 👍
Error, @ 4:37, that is actually the 5th generation famously called the iPod Video as it was the first one to add video playback. The iPod Photo was the 4th generation.
I have bins filled with these things. I have been collecting them for years. Literally hundreds. Bought them for pennies at GoodWill and Garage Sales. Will be listing them on Ebay, knowing they are selling for so much.
I fixed the old iPod I got in High School back in 2004, it's a 60GB video iPod. I got a new 300ml battery and an iflash adapter to intergrate a mSata 500GB SSD and also fixed the headphone jack. It was a bit pricey. But worth it seeing it turn back on and use it in my car every day Same as you, I have the old iPod connector and integrates well with my factory stereo!
I still own an iPod Nano. The little square one. Love it, use it everyday, in the car, on the gym, while running etc. The sound quality is much better and cleaner than any modern phone too. A couple of years ago I was having a party at home, and a friend was testing his phone (Android) on the sound boxes, and when we tested my iPod the difference was night and day. Then another friend with an iPhone wanted to test it and the iPod crushed it as well. We put the same songs. Just, damn.
Not sure if anyone remembers it or not, but back around 2008 when I got my 6th gen iPod Classic they had a iPod game in iTunes called Soul Summoner (I think). It was basically a music themed Final Fantasy meets Yu Gi Oh game where you summon warriors by choosing songs from your library and rather than grinding to earn exp they would earn it by you listening to the song while you weren’t playing. It was a really cool concept.
I was a hardcore Apple fan from High school through college starting with the first ipod - Apple's whole music/iPod/iTunes revolution was such a great thing to live through during college when you listened to more music than any other time in life while walking to class, studying, partying, etc. I sold a couple of them (my 3rd gen iPod, 1st gen Mini), but between my now-wife and I, we have probably 7 or 8 iPods, and a few years back I had a very similar car situation with a 2008 3-series and bought 2 120GB iPods (the last gen they made of the base model), and they're still going strong today! The older one is starting to have Hard Drive issues, but I think someday I'll open it up and replace the drive. Very fun and cool video to watch! I was so sad when these iPods started disappearing, and this was a nice trip down memory lane.
Excellent review of an outstanding iPod collection! Since most of your iPods are different models, I can say for sure that you are not Nuts (just a collector). When in 2014, I got my current automobile new it came with a classic iPod port. So, I said to myself let me buy on Ebay the oldest version of an iPod classic that does music, photos, and video that will also operate properly with my new car. Which, I found out happen to be an iPod classic 5th generation and, I have been enjoying it ever since. In addition, I use mine daily and, I am currently own my second replacement battery (smile...smile).

I still used my IPod 4 Touch for my Spotify but about 2 weeks ago they ended support for it finally and I have no use for it.
Everyone: Collectng iPods.
Me: Enjoying my Zune.
i've gotten so addicted to the point where i own around 100 of the damn things
I still have my 160GB iPod Classic since 2013! I have about 10,000 songs, 1 movie (Disney's Brink), and 2 seasons of Angry Beavers, with 89GB of free space left! I absolutely love it and consider it one of my most prized possessions, I use it in my car and continue to add new music to it to this day.
well, with yesterday's announcement, you could be sitting on a gold mine
I have a 7th gen iPod Nano I still use and love to this day after over 9 years. Such a great device.
Loved this video because it was something different. Thanks for all the great content, Jason!
I appreciate that!
Recently bought a classic 120gb and packed it with long DJ sets and mixtapes, really nice to have a device that only plays music and doesn’t have pop ups and adverts
Seems like you got in at the right time lol
Saw the thumbnail and thought "that's crazy, why would you do it?"
Ended the video looking for ipods on sale
A few years ago, I think it was, I found a pink iPod nano at a Goodwill near me. I plugged it in and turned it on. After I got done checking it out, I turned it off. When I turned it back on, all I got was a white screen. My mom looked it up and that issue is called the "white screen of death". Luckily, I was able to get the songs off of it that I wanted. I now have an iPod touch, and have never had any issues with it. I hope you never have any problems with your iPods that are working!
Good old times when apple was cool and innovative.
Yeah.. you need to meet dankpods
First Gen Nano arguably had the greatest ad campaign ever. Remember getting one for Christmas in 06. Happy times
Damn it, I've been trying to resist collecting old cell phones and this making it seem like a less crazy idea.
Half way through my freshman year of Highschool my parents bought me an Ipod Touch 4th Gen. I wasn’t ready for a smart phone and my old walkman MP3 player died on me after 3 years. I loved it man. It was so nice. I packed it full of music I remember.
In a lot of ways an IPod is better then listening to music on your phone.
Agreed. I can't stand using my phone for my music in the car!
It's better in every way
OG iPod Classic was my baby in high school. Carried it with me everywhere. It was game-changing at the time.
Yes, yes you are nuts. You’ve got enough stuff you haven’t touched without collecting something else
Hey DankPods would like to know your location!!

The iPod classic is still a great practical device if you're a fan of a lot of records you can't find on major streaming services. Also my dog literally ate my first generation iPod shuffle. She's 15 years old now. She outlived the entire product
This is without a doubt the most ridiculous collecting habit Ive ever heard of.
Nah, people collect sugar packets.
@@tarantinoish or navel lint... or... and navel lint.
Hoarding habit*
Yeah man, I had an iPod shuffle and still do, you are right, these things are quite usefull and fun to collect, I will start collecting them because of your video! Rock on dude!
The one you called the iPod Photo is actually the iPod Video (Classic 5th generation) and the one you called the 2nd generation Classic is actually the 3rd generation Classic.
I loved iPods. You unlocked me some memories with all the iPods I had. Oh! Good old days.
I still use my 2010 ipod nano, it's the perfect form factor for running !
Ah memories of middle school with my iPod nano, DS lite, and my Moto Razor. Good times.
