I've worked on 4th, 5th, 6th gens as well as minis, and the 5/5.5th gens are my favorite to work on. The most annoying part is that the headphone jack ribbon cable never seems to want to go back in. One thing that I found interesting was that you could put the battery between the logic board and the iflash adapter. I got a battery that was the same as yours, but when I put it under the adapter, it fit just fine without bending the ribbon cable. If you're going with the classic metallic back for your ipod, cutting up a screen protector and applying it to the back helps protect that finish from the scratches.
I absolutely loved my (sadly Verizon locked) 2019 Razr, sadly 5 or so months ago the battery failed in the strangest way. When it was closed it would drain, FAST, However when it was opened it would build back up just as quick?!? I ended up replacing it with a boring slab phone because it woul become unreliable when closed, missing calls, shutting down, and I just couldn't work with that. RIP RAZR 2019 Long live RAZR 2019!
The windows phone you have complaining on and couldn't see why. First off it's the first like that for windows second you will loose something everytime you try something new. It they made screen to size of unit bigger they would have to make it thicker so it would be more maybe cumbersome. Also first first with ideas don't always work and companies know that they get best option fast to put out and then the buyers are testers so they know what to hang or fix. People like you or most testers want everything or just hate it and feed ba k sucks cuz your average user. So it's cheaper to toss out a rough phone and loose little money. If it was people like you saying needs speed needs bigger screen needs surround sound needs usb c 30 wireless charge needs this and this and this. Then you complain to big to heavy gets hot to fast. So you wasted far more money for them while average user says can you upgrade sound or can we get better camera longer battery and with even small upgrade it's sells new model and again they listen and work to fix one thing. Apple is the worse for this they get old tech and make it sound they did it. Like adding music calculator email text wireless charge these are old when Apple gets it also Apple 12 to 13 isn't really any changes. Unlike other brands trying to further tech on phones. So saying first is bad yes they are cuz they didn't know what people really wanted till they had the phone.
The Surface Duo Phone got my attention, but when I looked there definitely were none anywhere near what you paid. They were all over $900 and ain't nobody got time for that.
When it comes to the iPod classic. The 5.5 is good but I can't really tell the difference in sound between the 5 and the 5.5. I have both. I even have the 6 and 4. Anything before the 6 has wolfson DAC. Even the iPod minis do and the 1st Gen iPod nano. To me the 5.5 sounds just as good as the iPod minis, the nano 1st Gen, iPod classic 4...
Even if you want to stay in the Apple ecosystem if you have iTunes and don't want to re-download all your music in MP3 form. I bought a used iPhone 12 to replace my iPod from Amazon earlier this year for pretty cheap in great condition. Use it for music and to stream movies and RUclips during work.
The Walkman was far bigger than iPod first was created in 70s spanned 40 years and is still made the the apple didn't even make it half that. Without Walkman may never had portable cd players to take with you and then ipod. I pod only makes you think it was larger cuz social media and waste of ads. So don't call it one the best was high up but was surpassed in short time by better cheaper players so apple is and will always be hype. Apple does things different so you get stuck with them like I know people who lost 1000 in music collection cuz apple update or something and u had to convert all your music to apple file but could never put it on others. While the other mp3 players could transfer faster easier and didn't matter file type its was better and faster. Say 300 dollar apple couldn't use memory card and had 20 gigs so you had to delete or stop your collection. Others in that Era you could add memory or just switch cards on the go. So to me first one is bad choice. If it was all about hype or fad then this was great choice.
ipod segment: Ken, with those headphones you're using, TBH, you certainly will not be able to reliably and accurately tell the difference between FLAC and hi quality LAME encoded mp3 at V0 or V1. Even with higher quality headphones, the fact is that very, very few people are able to distinguish between similar quality FLAC and mp3 in any kind of blind listening test. And as for your observation about Rockbox being a bit fiddly to install - man you kids are lazy and spoiled. Convert your FLAC to LAME v0 mp3 and stuff way more JPop onto that "new" ipod as well as get a much smoother, less processor intensive experience on Rockbox.
