Exceptionally well done. I have a spliced eye in the end of the climb line and have always just used a quickie for spar work but your way, with the ring n' biner, looks a lot easier. Especially with gloves on, the slic pin in the quickie can be cumbersome. I'll give the ring a shot! Thanks for sharing.
Damn bro..that was 🔥💯 advancing your line like that was a great idea. I've thought about it before but I didn't know how I could do it. But I do now. Thanks man. Stay safe.
Thanks for the quick draw demo! I have never rock climbed, and just never realized this potential with srs before. I feel this is something all climbers should have in the back of their minds. Thanks again!
Everything about tree work comes from other stuff. Spikes? Like men. Repel ropes and basic ascent descent? Mountaineers. Rigging techniques? Boating and rope access technicians. Modern SRT techniques are all rock climbing and rope access tech. Skills.
I have watched u for a while now keep up the videos I love it very interesting and great to see all the things u do I'm starting to learn srt and all the tips are nice thanks alot ur the man
I use the Akimbo. A lot of people gave it bad reviews. I think they just are not taking the time to learn how to set it up properly. It allows you to use a wide range of rope diameters, ascend and descend without removing it and is midline attachable. Great device.
I keep watching your videos and demonstrations over and over sometimes, every time learning so much more. Thank you for doing all this, extremely helpfull. As I am playing around with the double alpine butterfly knot and a ring, this old video comes on and you mention the safari rope. Exactly the rope I am using right now to practice something with. I noticed you have been using it in several of your videos. It looks wicked in person... it is hard to tell in the videos. TREE SAFE.
Am I right to say that you chose to put in solid anchors every few feet because if the spar broke away below your tie in, you'd still be tied to the tree lower down?
I was wondering this too. there must be a point, because he just eliminated the main point of the 2nd tie in, namely being able to rapell quickly in case of emergency.
Mostly large white pine removals in my area. I’ve been pondering a way to tie into a bare spar (just a log, no branches or stubs) so I may descend single rope and not have to down climb on my spikes when chunking down wood, yet retrieve my line when I’ve come to where I want to make my next cut. Thought about pulling out a length of tail, then clove hitching to my biner which snaps onto my rope so I can go down and pull it back to me. Thank you for sharing, very well done. I like the snap cut you made when taking out the top, looked like it help it pop out to clear the fence, more so than if you put a wedge 👍
Using this spar anchor will allow you to come down to make your cut. There’s a very simple way of making the anchor retrievable. Just take the tail under your hitch and clip it to the carabiner.
Why didn’t I think of that. I’d probably just use actual quick draws/runners/webbing girth hitched around the stem. Not sure why the ring is necessary though? Does it serve to keep the biner away from the tree, where it could potentially open as it’s moved around when climbing? Had the rope runner for a while and too stuck in my ways to use it, then they told me a number of them were recalled. Still climbing double rope.
If you do your break-off cuts top cut first then bottom cut, your able to leave the saw in the cut and push without any chance of your saw being grabbed and held onto by the piece.
Hey bro I have Important question will a double hand ascender help me stay on the rope while srt ING with a foot ascender knee ascender and a chest harness I have a petzl z and chicane also have a wrench system I heard some ppl say it gets in your way I'm just on the fence about getting a double hand ascender do u have any advice thanks man ur a great climber
Thank you for the comment. Absolutely a hand a ascender will help you during canopy access or moving up the rope. I used a double hand ascender for a while. The bulk and weight got on my nerves so I switched over to a a single hand ascender. Take caution when using a single hand ascender with two hands. There’s a possibility of opening the cam.
@chtclimbing I was gonna get the ct quick arb H double hand ascender and using it with the Hass knee and Ct foot ascender and zz and chicane I just wanted to make sure they're compatible thanks bro
I liked this demonstration but this looks like a hickory, not ash. Behaves like hickory, too, with those small twigs giving you that resistance. Growth doesn't look opposite, either. The holes look like bird holes not EAB (Emerald Ash Borer) holes, which makes sense cause this isn't an ash tree. Again, props to good SRT demo and reference to advancing rock anchors, though when spiking with just a lanyard you are vulnerable to sliding down the trunk if you blow your spikes. Added benefit of the clove hitch "quickdraws" is that it also helps compress the trunk on itself which can help in situations with splitting or other structural issues. Sometimes folks use compression straps on trunks to hold it together while being worked but that is definitely more advanced technique. Thanks for the video.
THAT'S DIFFERENT💪..SIMPLE. NEVER SEEN ANYONE USE THE RING THAT WAY. WHAT HARNESS YOU IN ? I'M HAVING MAJOR COMMITMENT ISSUES DECIDING I'M STILL IN MY FIRST HARNESS.
So if the spar were to fail at some point between your lowest and highest anchor, you would have belay points to hopefully save your arse. Is my understanding correct Captain? 👍
Great tips. I had not heard of the quick draw before. I wonder if you could wrap 1 inch webbing loops around the questionable section of spar and clip your line into it with a biner. Might be a little quicker and use less of your climbing line, in case you had to descend quickly.
What makes this faster than switching to double rope with the akimbo? When I’m spiking up a tree and advancing my line, I use my climb line as a second lanyard. Rope runner on my right upper D, and regular lanyard on my left lower D. When/if I need to descend, I’ll switch my rope runner to my bridge and srt or drt if it’s faster. I feel like this type of climb just makes more sense in drt. It’s a really interesting idea though
I really would love to but I need to figure out a way to to come up with the capital and get the whole business side of it worked out. lol any suggestions on the businesss side of it?
Awesome point. I see where you're coming from and believe that that might pertain to rock climbing more than it would pertain to tree climbing. I am only making a response based on what I know and if you could share some good info on this particular subject, that would be great!
Good show, and great video. But, you waste time, wear and tear on your saw, and lose way too much energy on your cuts. They’re done wrong causing you to go back on just about every cut. Conserving energy is not only working efficiently, but is the core of being and working “SAFELY”

you did some of the best snap cuts i have seen when using rope
That's how you make it look simple. Take care and have a blessed weekend and I'll see you on your next vidja.

Thanks. Australia tree guy as sideline job. Never would of thought of doing SRT that way. I will add that to my climbing. Ianstreeservice.
I haven't seen this before. super cool

I totally agree with you. For me it’s #1. Granted I’ve used the rope wrench, RRPRO, Zigzag-Chicane.
This one of the best bits of info I’ve ever come across. Well done sir.
Thanks for the video.

if you got the equipment, you could use slings and karabiners for an alt version of setting up a quick draw
Wow that was cool!

Thanks for the great tips! I’d love to see more tips on the work of an arborist. Continue with the same pattern, thank you!
Great video for short sections just slak it and use it like a double flip line🤙
Thank you!!! Nice work and I needed that
That was fire
bro such a great idea

Thanks for sharing that was very enlightening. Climbing Safely = A long and heathy career.
Very helpful thanks
Szuper!Gratulation!👌🤝
Anytime you use a bowline for life support you are supposed to back it or just use an alpine. Quickies are pretty sick too
Great video. Can you tell me what kind of ring you are using? Whats your thought on aluminum vs steel rings?
I’m using aluminum rings. For rigging I’d probably go with steel but haven’t had issues with aluminum.
If you do your break-off cuts top cut first then bottom cut, your able to leave the saw in the cut and push without any chance of your saw being grabbed and held onto by the piece.
@15:26 that put you a couple feet above your last point of connection ? ...albeit for just a few seconds.
Good job 👍

Thanks. I was just improvising and this is what came of it.
What is the knot you are tying for your QuickDraw?
Clove hitch
구경 잘 합니다
What size of ring are u using for this technic?
Another arborist working harder then necessary I'd have been done in ten minutes
Are you still going to do them grab boxes
I really would love to but I need to figure out a way to to come up with the capital and get the whole business side of it worked out. lol any suggestions on the businesss side of it?
@@chtclimbing I don't even know buddy I have no idea I wish I could help you I truly do
I tried this with an RRP. It was a little long but do-able.
Ha. The akimbo is definitely the one to go with. But like you did. If needed definitely doable with any other system.
you could shorten your bridge...
Nice. How long is your lanyard? You like that art over the zillion?
Awesome job, but that's not an Ash. That's Sapsucker damage. Looks like a Hickory to me.
Isn't metal on metal (the carabiner onto the ring) a no-go, even here in Europe? - trade association
