- Our hood has finally landed which means we can finally get this 2007 Subaru WRX STI ready to be painted. That means no more white Flares!!!! In addition to that we got a TON of Cusco Parts in to help stiffen up this chassis as I Personally thought it felt a little boat like.

I can resonate with the fixing previous owner mistakes comments haha, not only did they run stage 2+ EBCS COBB tune with a catless downpipe and no intake, but also didn't put a gasket between the downpipe and turbo, and didn't put two of the turbo to downpipe bolts on....I don't even know

Ooooh, I would leave the scoop and the leading "V" as well as the side vents in carbon. Then super clear the whole thing. But just the vents is pretty slick too. Do what works for ya!

I don’t know if you’re still looking at relocating somewhere, but met I suggest Knoxville TN? Beautiful mountains, strong car/Subaru scene, really nice people, cheap gas, very mild winters, no salt on the roads so car bodies last a lot longer. We moved from IL 7 years ago and I highly recommend it.

Fresh bushings thru out is a bit help if your car feeling "boaty." Don't let the removal and installation intimidate ya. I remove most by pressing out the inner race, and then sawzall from center to the outer race, and they pop out themselves. Installation is easy with a fridge and a press.
Normally I’ll do the bushing inserts vs full replacement. If I have something already out then I’ll press in new ones 🙌
@@Smeedia after restoring a ton of Hondas, I kinda pride myself on how easy I make bushings. Everything thinks you gotta burn em all out, or have some perfect press assembly (albeit having a good assortment can help) but ya don't, and they can make a world of difference. Especially on track. My biggest gripe with most aftermarket bushings, is the lack of durometer ranges.
Cars coming on nicely, what about a little underside refresh as well? Under car and wheel arch clean and some black underseal to make it look nice an fresh 😊
I’d suggest dry ice blasting the underside first before painting. Maybe he can do a collab with a local shop. Not sure who does dry ice in the PNW. I’d like to find a reliable spot for this as well.
@@CompressorSurgeI’ll see what I can whip up, I’d like to undercoat everything. I know of 1 dry ice blasting place but the price is kinda unreasonable

Fitment of the hood is great Also the scoop setup kinda gives it a stealthy look But to each his own. She’s coming along nicely tho. Keep up the good work bro 😊

The scoop is about the same size as the flares and compliment each other. I think you'll like the scoop once it's painted.

dang man, that’s the cleanest fuel filler neck I’ve ever seen. And the screws for the plastic cover didn’t just snap the heads off immediately either.
Right?! One nice thing about the PNW is no salt so the cars are pretty clean

Tanner, if the flares were carbon I think the hood would look great fully carbon but since the flares are going blue I concur with blue hood + carbon vents. All blue with full cf hood is too distracting from the rest of the car

Normally I don't like carbon fiber but that hood looks fire 🔥🔥I say keep the hood carbon and save money on the paint.
It still needs clear coat, but it looks good with the carbon 😍
That car is coming along real nice. Love the hood. 1 day I hope to be able to get an older 1 like that. Love my 2020 but whooo the old 1s are beautiful when done properly.
You can scoop up an older STI for cheap if it needs some love. Which most do now 👀

Engine is in, and wheels are on.
Bad news - Will need to order a turbo, replace the exhaust (cats died lol) and ac compressor. I should be good by Feb/March.

I like the full carbon hood. And upgrading the sway bar/links is always the first thing I do on my cars.

Leave it raw carbon. You can always paint it later if you want. I think it looks sick. A few other little carbon odds and ends to tie it together and it'll be perfect.

Just a heads up with the seibon hood. Those hood vents will eventually yellow out. I would recommend getting them taken to a shop to be recoated in real UV protection at some point. Hope you're doing good Tanner :)

Don't skimp om hood pins either. Get legit ones. Nothing quite like losing your hood and windshield and roof instantly because of chinesium.

@@Smeedia I machined my own last time I installed on my own car. Used a 316 stainless. Post was machined to have to rip thru a 2 in diameter of the core support with a 3/16 stainless body washer before it'd let the hood go. The dumb things machinist do when bored I guess

I love how tight my car feels with all the bracing. Theres a ton more companies than just Cusco available these days. Kein, ultra racing, megan racing, soul function and probably more.

I didn’t know if I was a fan of carbon hoods like a year or two ago. Debsted paint matching but said fuck it and put it on my 16 and fell in love with how it looked. I think you should keep it carbon. It just pops that much more

The angle on the hood scoop sides is a bit too angular. The front grille is a little more rounded from the center section. I hope painting it softens those angles. love the overall design on its own
I think once it’s painted it’ll tone it down a bit, but they are suuuuuper sharp angles off the hood scoop
The hood is awesome, too bad you can't get some cheap vinyl and experiment with how much you want to paint and leave bare.

Leave the hood unpainted. Once you get bored with exposed carbon, you can paint it. It's easier to paint than to take the paint off 😉

It looks so awesome. It's a difficult decision. Blue Hood or carbon will look great either way but, I'm not sure which will look better. I think the GD chassis is so fun to drive. Gc is light. You can feel the weight, but the gd just feels better
One of my jobs to do to my Hawkeye Wagon this year is to upgrade the OEM sway bars to Cusco bars, so I'm happy to see you fitting those rather than the more popular choices such as Whiteline, etc. And FWIW, I like the look of that carbon hood and I'm not normally a carbon hood fan! Think I would rock it as it is!! 😎

I think you should leave the hood carbon. Once the fenders are painted it will all tie together so well
If it were my car I'd leave the hood the exposed carbon it does make it look alot nicer I think painting it will hide the look that the carbon gives off.

I have the same hood on my blob eye the scoop grows on you. Are you adding rain gutters to the vents to direct water or risking the extra moisture in the engine bay?

Only bugeye S202 and Spec C RA came without U frame. They also have different subframe that is mix of GC and GD.

I've seen some pretty good results using the House of Kolor candy color top coats over carbon. I'm considering this for the Seibon CF fenders I've got for my '05. Praying to the fitment gods for those, as well.
Do a candy world rally blue on the hood so you can see the carbon fiber thru the paint…

GD are the best Subaru chassis (imo) in terms of that ultimate Subaru feel. From the vibrations to the way it digs.... chef's kiss*. Every since this era of cars they've gotten bloated and bland.
Literally cannot beat it with any other generation. The others are great in their own ways. But the Gds are just 🤌
