I just bought the Denon X3800H and set it up last weekend. Listen to TechnoDad, he knows what he's talking about here: this new AVR from Denon totally ROCKS!!! (No, I don't work for Denon; I'm merely a happy customer). I own a Reavon X100 blu-ray player, which before I was outputting the video HDMI directly to my LG OLED TV. But now I am sending the audio/video signal through the Denon X3800H, and the video upscaling of this AVR is AMAZING! A noticeable picture-quality improvement, especially with newer UHD-4K movie disks. The sound quality is full and dynamic through my Klipsch 7.2 home theater speaker setup. For about $1,700, now you're playing with the big boys!
Good news! After my refund come through on X3800 number one, I decided to take a shot at another one (from Best Buy with a return period through Jan. 14, 2023). Once again I had some Preset issues, not quite the same as on the first unit, but still, pretty bizarre. Ah, but this past week, Denon put out a firmware update for the X3800 and it appears to have solved the Presets issues. Since Denon never publishes a lot of specifics about what their updates actually fix/improve, they might not even know that the update fixed this problem, but either way. I'm a happy camper now.
Trying to decide on the Denon x6700h or x4800h etc.I don't want to spend more than $3400 .I currently have a 5.2.4 setup . Any receiver recommendations my setup is power hungry especially my paradigm 90p monitor towers
@@TechnoDad I believe I’ve heard this before and I’m pretty sure you might’ve said it but I’m planning on doing six height channels on my X6700h with voice of God and center height. Do you know if this is the same as the 3800h when it comes to getting the most out of atmos?
Started my home theater journey with Denon X4700h in 21'. Jumped straight to an Anthem 70 8K processor. Thanks to you, Chana. I now have a 9.2.6 full separates in my living room. Your videos have helped me tremendously.
I really enjoy your going into detail videos! One thing that came to my mind. Now if we forget your comment about single surround back not panning properly. Wouldn't it be great if there was 11.1 setting with 6 bed layer speaker using single surround back and 5 height channels including center height. Cause in the end top surround is not that important. But you'd get excellent center height and something back in your bed layer without the need to upgrade to x67(8)00h to get them in same configuration.
Great points! It's really up to Denon/Marantz to put in that kind of functionality. Some people without room for surround back could have room for front wide but Denon won't let you have front wides until you step up to the X6700/X6800. So it's really up to them.
Thanks. I'm considering "upgrading" my X6400H to the new X4800H, but only after Dirac bass control is available as an upgrade option for the X4800H. Can you get Auro 3D with 4 tops + Atmos with 4 tops with all 5.2.4 configuration? because with the X6400H, some setups like tops on ceiling, will disable Auro 3D back top channels (you even made a video about this for the X4400H. Thanks
Dirac is coming in March 2023. But they said bass control was looking to be 2024 but still not guaranteed as of yet. SRC hasn't even been fully confirmed for the A1V either
This is an awesome receiver, I got it for Xmas and it's been no disappointment since then. Looking forward to buy some tactile transducers to check that out
Hi, I have a pioneer 9.2channel, and after watching your video on true Dolby Atmos, I changed my sound round back speakers from ether side of my couch, to behind the , lieing both speakers on their backs. Then put on two 4k dvds to try out the sound and boy what a difference. I am now looking at the hz because I am using large speaks for a 7.1.2 system. So a big thank you for should a well round video on Dolby Atmos.
Having a hard time deciding between 3800h for $1700 or the 6700h for $2300. Which one would you choose knowing you could also benefit from having hdmi 2.1 having a ps5, series x, and computer
I was about to pull the trigger on getting a Rotel 1576mkii (for the same price as this) but this has changed the game. Update on hdmi, 4 subs outs, Dirac, multi zone and Made in Japan. Glad I waited lol
I'm really curious about 5.1.4 too but struggling between a true .4 atmos and a hybrid that supports Auro 3d (better upscaling) or even true .4 atmos plus .2 front height for that big effect.... One thought was Auro 3d is largely guesswork so a great hack would be a true .4 Atmos placement but trick Auro to use more speakers anyway... not possible?
thanks for another great video ! I just purchased a 3800 and noticed several differences in the menus so I guess they’ve been changed in the firmware updates.
when i hit setup there is no picture on my samsung 2023 tv. . fixed that tv issue . followed your video step by step. i just bought the x3800h 2 weeks ago and found out that the setup pages and options have changed. quite a few things they changed like amp asign. and crossover.
Recently got this as well, I'm loving it so far and it's been a bigger upgrade than I thought it would be coming from the Yamaha 3060. My only recurring issue is that the right rear surround fails somewhere in the 4-6 position of Audyssey. It works fine every other time and during playback, just when trying to do Audyssey on those specific positions.
@@TechnoDad I need the 6800 NOW! Have the 3800 and before the 6700, i need the 6800, external Amplifikation with the 3800 is just not up to the Task...
Great video TD. I, like many others who suffer from upgrade-itis, would like to go from a 5.1.2 set up to a 5.1.6 set up and take advantage of Auro 3d. My .2 is a pair of middle ceiling/top speakers that have tweeters angled down towards the MLP which is 4 feet back from the middle and 3 feet from the back wall. My surrounds are in the back corners. From your video it looks like the two options are 1) install 2 front heights and 2 rear/surround heights and and follow the first .6 set up that you presented making use of my middle top speakers, or 2) install 3 front heights (including center) and 2 rear/surrround heights, along with the VOG speaker. This 2nd option would not make use of the existing middle top speakers. If I do an upgrade for purposes of Auro 3d, I want to get it mostly right. I'm leaning to the first option (making use of the middle top speaker) but would it be compromising Auro 3d too much? Yours and others thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. (Waiting for the 4800 and going to a 13 speaker set up is not a consideration.)
I bought the 3800 but my room was pre wired for 5.1.4 dolby atmos. Can you mimic the auro3d setup while using 5.1.6 dolby atmos setup? Or do I have to set up like a 5.1.4 and then add one speaker in the center to do the Auro 3d?
Great video brother. I just upgraded to the 3800 from the 3600 and I was wondering. If I leave the video setting on auto is the denon adding any processing to the picture? I really would rather my A90J handle all the processing. Should I set it to bypass? Thanks keep on keepin on brother
loving those new menus for sure. Ive had my 4700h for less than 6 months and now Im jealous but of course I couldnt wait when I got it so....theres always something coming around he corner.... Very very cool. Thanks for the vid TD. Cant wait to try your 3 ATMOS demo tracks once I finish wiring up my 4 height speakers.....
those demos are great, really give you the ability to assess how good your Atmos setup works - and where compromises have effect. Would love to see/hear an Auro 3D test!!
Excellent! - To clearify, this receiver has only NINE amplifiers - an external 2-channel amp is required for eleven amplified channels... - Correct? Thanks - Cheers!
Nice overview Channa. Finally a manufacturer that includes a proprietary output fo tactile transducers! It's just too bad that it's not really all that functional without more settings. The minimum that you need to properly integrate transducers is a delay setting and a proper crossover section, CX of 40Hz is too high - especially if you can't set a delay to properly sync the transducers up with the subwoofers. An EQ would be nice as well if you need to tame certain frequencies (your furniture also has (room) modes!). Still, one problem seems to be solved here: You probably don't want your transducers to run when you are listening to music so I have to switch the amp that powers the transducers on and off manually. I guess (hope) that these Denon only send the LFE signal to the transducers even if you have your mains set to small with a crossover. Also no workarounds are needed anymore to do the automatic Audyssey calibrattion. I hope Sound united adds more funtionality to the transducer out so we who use them don't need any exertanl DSP anymore to equalize them... Having all handled in one device (the AVR) is better/more convenient than using an external DSP since you can turn them on or off or adjust them depending on mood/contet. They could even consider providing an option to use one of the integrated amps to even power a transducer/shaker. The amps of an AVR are not really suited for a transduer though since an amp for that application has to provide huge amounts of power and need a FR way below 20Hz but still, would be nice to have that option for people who just want to try a transducer out and see if they like it. Also I would have liked you to dive deeper into the 4 subwoofer outputs since this is a big deal! Are they truly independant? Does Audyssey try to measure them automatically or do you have to set everything up manually if you use more than 2 subs? You should tweal the subs as much as possible by hand (with assistance of a mic) anyways but i find that the automatic phase adjustements of Audyssey (I currently have a 4400h) still help me with the time alignement... Nevertheless; great review Channa keep em coming ;)
Is the Auro-matic 3D options only available on the 4000 series and up? I noticed on a video in the sound parameter section there were auro-matic 3d options. I don't see them in the x3800h menu.
Technodad, so after reviewing the most recent models of yamaha, pioneer, denon, onkyo...it seems like you recommend pioneer for most people due to compatibility as well as DiracLive. I was wondering how about overall sound quality....which do you feel offers the best sound for music? Would really appreciate your feedback. I just sold my Hegel h390....and considering upgrading my home theater receiver. Thank you. (My current setup is Focal Aria 5 speaker + SVS PC 12 plus subwoofer...considering adding 4 small svs in the future for height channels)
I had to return my X3800. It had major problems with the two presets. I would use Audyssey with a speaker setup on one Preset but when I used a different speaker setup on the other preset and ran Audyssey that preset would change to the setup from the first Preset. When you changed Presets there was no clicking because the Amp settings were identical. When the second run did get the amp settings right, Audyssey was grayed out. Even when I saved a good setup to a flash drive and loaded it onto its Preset, it literally wiped the other Preset out, even after a factory reset. I've been a longtime Denon/Audyssey user and I've never seen anything like this. I also tried using the MutiEQ app (the Android version is very buggy) and when it got to the initial subwoofer test it just died. I had a very long conversation with a Denon rep and he said that, so far, they had not heard of the Preset problem and had no answers. He also sheepishly used the magic word "beta". With no solution in sight, I had no choice but to return the AVR. Maybe my unit was defective. At least I hope so but if anyone out there has used the two Presets and had no issues, I'd like to hear about it.
As you must know,Polk speakers have the choice of connecting their speakers with the regular two posts connection points if brass plates that links the two top posts and the two bottom posts are kept on.However,if the brass plates are removed,we end up having a top connection 2 posts, and a bottom connection 2 posts. If used separately my guess would be that the bottom posts would connect to the regular AVR speakers inputs, but where would the top posts be connected to on the AVR if used to watch movies, etc. Or is this two separate connections feature only good for listening to music exclusively.
Great video! I'm really interested in getting this for a possible 5.1.4 with maybe a Voice of God speaker in there too. That can be done right? Have a 5.1.2 in ceiling speakers now, looking to add at least 2 if not 3 more (depending if the installer can do it easily).
Thank you techno dad. I bought this receiver and I really like it. I replaced my broken x3600h. I have yamaha ns-f51 but would like to replace these to KEF-Q950s. Will x3800h handle these? Thx
Yeah, I don't think they can do that. They swapped out the HDMI board and added the fours subwoofer outputs. An update for the UI would be cool, but I don't thin it's that easy.
Hey TD great video as always! I have an issue with the Denon AVR-X3700H. It has to do with the HDMI switching and CEC issues that many have complained about here on RUclips. It was just purchased this past July 2022. Denon CS has not been much help. I have a 2022 LG C2 OLED, using Audio Quest cinnamon Hdmi cables, other cables work fine as well. I have my brand new PS5 connected to the 8K hdmi in. The lag when switching input, when it actually and finally switches is brutal. I’ll get no signal for a minute or more most times, other times it will switch inputs then switch back to another input, totally annoying. I have done a lot of testing with my older Denon amp, Yamaha amp, the PS5 connected directly to the TV and so on. Hdmi lag issue and CEC issue goes away. The PS5 connected directly to the TV using eARC for audio back to amp works great when the Denon is not doing the video. Have you tested or heard of anyone else having issues with CEC and hdmi switching with this and other Denon models? Is there a hardware upgrade they will do to fix this issue? Have you tested a PS5 with this 3800 with a 2022 LG TV? Is there lag when switching inputs or issues with CEC like there is with other Denon models? I would be happy to post a video of the CEC issues and serious lag when switching to the PS5 input on 8k port. It is bad. Simply does not work properly. Also, the lag and CEC issues exist no matter if my Apple TV is connected to the 8k or ps5 is in other hdmi inputs. I have seen many say just turn CEC off. Well, that is not a real fix. For obvious reasons. I am working towards getting away from my harmony remotes as they are now discontinued. Fine if CEC has issues from time to time, but for this amp to have these types of issues at this price point with Denon not taking seriously is frustrating. Hopefully then can figure out a firmware update for this but to me seems hardware related, especially since the models with serial numbers under 70k require an external device fix. Crazy. Whatever their fix was for models above 70k did not fix the issue and I suspect it was a hardware fix since the others require a separate piece of hardware. Anyone else here have these hdmi and CEC issues? I know others have posted about it, but I would like to see some of you Denon guys discuss this so Denon can figure out what the heck is going on and fix it. Not a cheap AVR by any means. Would like to know if anyone has the PS5 connected to a 3700 or the 3800 with a 2022 LG C2 OLED and if you have issues or not.😊
thank you for the video, my friend bought a new 3800h, he wants a 5.2.4 so no preamp. is surround back or surround sie is best for this configuration? thnk you
I need help. Set up my 3800. I matched your settings for Auro 3D. I have 5 floor speakers and 5 ceiling speakers. I'm using the pre out for TS speaker and when I'm watching a movie that has atmos I can't see Auro 3D sound field in menu. Im lost. Searched online and couldn't find the solution. Will Auro 3D only work with a blue ray 4k movie or can i access it watching DirectTV stream lets say? I read that Auro 3D will make regular content sound amazing. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
at the bottom of the remote is 4 colored buttons called "Sound Mode." The green first button cycles through available sound modes and also has on screen menu matching. I believe you cycle to auromatic. It took me a week to find this option. By the way the last yellow button cycles through direct, pure, and the third option is auto sound mode. I wouldn't expect to find that there.
Just got the 3800H. Love the sound but am about to send it back if I cant get the setup menu to display on the Samsung 4K TV (it shows on the AVR's front panel only). My Series X and Switch displays on the TV great but anything coming directly from the 3800H only shows on the front panel (HEOS, USB, Internet Radio, etc) Any suggestions appreciated.
Thank you so much! Thanks to this and many of your other reviews, I wound up with this AVR and an Outlaw 5000 amplifier. Just amazing so far! But....have a weird question. I want to plug in a pair of headphones on the front 1/4 jack, and....no sound comes through the headphones??? Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what am I missing. Again, these are wired headphones.
Great Video. I'm going to be buying one of these to start my living room Atmos project in my new home. I do have a question for you for my 5.2.2 setup. I have 4 in-ceiling speakers and I plan to use the top 2 back speakers as my rear speakers and the other 2 speakers as Top middle. Do I plug the rear back speakers in the ceiling into the rear height, surround back, or are they just considered normal rear speakers? No way in hell the Mrs will approve 2 ear level speakers in this big open floor plan of a living room so I was just wondering since I hardly see anyone make a video on a setup like that. Appreciate your content.
Very informative! what are your thoughts on using the AVR as a preamp only (setting the unit to disconnect the internal amps) and running external amplification with Emotiva or Monolith amps? Also, would it be ok to use the AVR's amps just for the height speakers or would that still introduce enough of the lackluster high frequencies to mess up the entire mix?
Cool height speaker layout possible with this receiver. Did you tested it? How is the sound quality of the 3800 vs the 6700, is the 6700 better in separation of channels and sound quality??
Channa, I gave a Denon X8500H with six height channels in a front height, rear height and surround height configuration. I am able to get all three formats but it’s strange how they all display. In Atmos I get front and rear heights. In Auro-3D I get front and side heights but in DTS-X I get all six. Have you ever tried this?
That's interesting Jeff, I have never heard this, but I have never had 6 height channels before. I have some speakers on the way but I will need someone to install them. I will definitely look into this.
From what I know it’s because dts is more relaxed than Dolby If you changed the setting from side height to too middle then you’d get all 6 height active in Dolby atmos
Thanks Channa. Good descriptive vid. I thought this avr was going to be 13.1 processing capable with 9 amps. Looks like it's not? That's a bit of a bummer. 7.2.6 would have been good.
PLEASE HELP!!! I have 3 audio output options on my TV: Passtrough, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus. Which one to set to get the best quality sound sent to my Marantz AVR? I use only TV internal apps (Netflix, RUclips, etc.) and my PS5 is connected to the TV directly.
I'm having trouble with the volume the scale is 0-98 limit is off and power level is at 15 the moved it and it went to -75.5db-18.db and the power level is -65?
@@TechnoDad Great option indeed! These "pre-out" AVRs may spell the end of processors. However, who doesn't dream of a separates system? I know I want separates. Even if it is only to experience that type of system in my room for a short time to see if there really is a great improvement.
@@welderfixer if you have the $$ then separates will always rule. 10 grand and up for those systems and so they will always be in a different class above and have a much different market/audience than the "poor mans" home theater that these cater to :)
@@sjsphotog Thanks for the reply. A $2k Emotiva BasX set-up would be good enough for me, but I wish I had a $5 for lunch right now. It sucks bad to be flat broke and overdrawn. Is it possible to adjust the background color of the gui? In some videos here on RUclips for this receiver, the gui is shown with a blue background. In your video here it looks way darker... -So is it adjustable or are there different versions of the gui?
Cool demo you made. By the way I have a quick questions. You tested martin logan esl electrostat for HT , also you tested MKS150 for HT. In your opinion which one is best for HT? Thanks.
The "small" or "large" setting for speaker configuration doesn't exist any more. I just bought it yesterday and did a software update. Any idea where that setting went?
I have a Denon 4800h with a 5.2.4 setup and my first 5 are standard and 4 overhead but I've been curious if my rear heights would be better as back surround , dolby sp ,or keep it as I have it setup as rear heights? Keep in Mind my seating position is against the wall like yours. Let me know what you think. Mind my new denon 4800h can do auro 3d , auro 2d ..etc . Hi Is IT posible to make the front high (center) and the top high midle (voice o god) make pre out on a 9 Chanel avr (Marantz 7015) ? And Wien how Connect speakers Thank you very mich Sorry for my Bad englisch
Here's something that just happened. I had to remove the AVR11 because there were some HDMI issues and the AVR wasn't seeing a signal from the DirecTV box. I put the Marantz back in and no problems. It's something to do with these higher-end AVR companies. Small, little quirks. I have no idea what was happening, but I needed to swap AVRs before the Sunday Night Football game started. Otherwise, wifey was not going to be happy. When she starts complaining about the AVR not working, it's usually got to go!
You’ll have to setup 11.1 at the top of amp assign screen. Then select front L & R for the pre out. Plug everything in and it should work. They only speakers you have to assign are the front mains for pre out. All the rest are already on.
Hi CD. I Need HELLLP! I have 4 Yamaha hs8s studio monitors and 1x Polk Audio Surroundbar50 passive soundbar. The soundbar has LCR, LRear surround, and RRear surround. Finally, I have 2 Kef L&R passive heights and 2x SVS micro 3000 subs. My question is, how can I setup an Atmos 5.2.2 surround with these speakers when the Yamahas have XLR or TRS connects with built in amps, while the soundbar and heights are passive with RCA/unbalanced connects? I've considered the Denon 3700H or the Emotiva BasX MC1 13.2 Channel Cinema Processor. I also have a MINIDSP SHD digital sound processor but I have no idea how to use it. My brother runs a studio. He upgraded and sold me the Yamahas and MINIDSP. Any ideas?
Good job, Techno Dad! I'm seriously considering buying this one. Would it be the best match for my Monitor Audio bronze 6th gen 5.1.2 HCP, in a 140 feet room? Both music and video sound quality wise. Possible upgrade to 5.2.4 over a year or two.
Just found TechoDad and I’m hooked. Very useful and informative videos. A question: I’m ready to add two height (Atmos) speakers to my X2300W unit and have been looking for on-ceiling speakers to complete the transformation. I was excited to hear you mention such as I too am not in a situation to use in-ceiling speakers. I’ve looked everywhere for on-ceiling speakers with no luck. What are you planning to use for this purpose? Thanks
I thinking about returning my x1800h and get the x3800h instead. I will buy a 2nd set of Klipsch theater pack 5.1 for just $260. With that 2nd set I will be able to have a 5.2.4 setup that I can upgrade later to better speaker and 7.2.4 🤤🤤
I have a question about this receiver if someone can help me out. Looking at the owners manual it says it can do 9.1 for main zone and 2 Channel Stereo for zone 2 using the pre-outs. I’ve also read somewhere it can’t do this. I don’t remember where though. Can someone tell me if I’m fast it will do 9.1 main zone and 2 Channel Zone 2 with pre outs? Thank you so much in advance.
I have a denon S760h receiver I want to add a power amplier what is your best and cheapest recommendation and can you put a link where I can get and cables needed to connect the 2. Thanks really hoping for a response from you thanks in advance.
Another informative video, thank you! I currently have the 3600h with an emotiva basx a3 for lcr, is the 3800 worth the step up or would it be beneficial going to the next model? Thanks 👍 😊
Can I use Bose acousticmass speakers for height channels? 🤔 It just hit me. Because mines are just sitting in a box unused right now. I'm thinking I can get some more use out of these speakers. Had them since 2006.
Unfortunately, no. You would have to get at least an X3800H - amzn.to/477wCPl - or the X4800H - amzn.to/3NTYFJb - but both of those will only allow 5.1.6 with a power amp. If you wanted to run 7.1.6, you would need the X6700H - amzn.to/3K1QVDL
You don't, "have to have a pre amp", it is a pre amp. I believe it has 9 amplifier channels, so it can power 9 speakers by itself. It also has pre amp output for up to 11 channels, so if you have an external amplifier to cover the two additional channels, it can be an 11 channel. The ideal use of a receiver like this for most people would be to use external amplifiers for the Left, Center, and Right speakers and use the internal amplifiers for everything else.
@@codychavarria6088 You could probably buy another receive with 11 amplifier channels built in for about the same price as buying the 3800 plus a 2-ch amplifier to go with it. It depends on what you want, for simplicity go with the 11 ch receiver so everything is in one box, for superior performance, go for the external amplifiers to get the additional channels.
It can process 11 channels but can only power 9 of them. That's the same as the x3700 it replaces as well as the x4700. To get 11 channels you need to step to the x6700 which has 11 amps, and can process 13 channels (so power amp needed for the extra 2 again).
I listened to this 3800h and I thought it sounded better than the cinema 50 I also think it sounds better than rz50 maybe what your opinion running 5.1 updates to atmos soon 2 or 4 is the 3800 good and something that just works ty
@@TechnoDad I had to rest my rz50 still can return for no sound after airplay and airplay drops out sometimes are u using Dirac doing mostly movies but like music also thanks for the reply
Unless I can’t find it but I don’t see a head to head comparison between the x4800h and Cinema 50? Which one is better for movies and it’s it worth it to buy one of this ones instead of the x3800h? I see that the x4800h has more power so if I go for the $2,500 rout then which one is better for movies sound effects and sound quality the x4800h or Cinema 50?
That's a tough call Roberto. Maybe going with the X3800H and a power amp will give you a better overall experience than just the X4800H for the same price.
@@TechnoDad awesome! Thank you so much so with your experience which amp you recommend me to use with the x3800h? that way I can get them both at the same time 😊
Nice review. I picked up a lightly used X4700 last year, running 7.1.4 with the LCR powered by external Amp. My two PB2000-Pros were configured with help from the guys from SVS and they suggested that daisy-chaining the Subs vs using the separate LFE preouts would actually work better for my layout. So the 4 Subs preouts for the X3800 may not be all that useful... are there ANY other reasons to consider an upgrade, assuming someone dumped $1700 on my doorstep?
What are your thoughts x4700h vs x3800h. I don’t plan to connect a lot to the AVR and doubt I’ll go DIRAC. The menu looks great on the 3800 but if I’m just after home theater performance, the 4700 has more power and a better processor (from what I understand). Oh and I’ll never be able to go 3/4 subs.
I don't know if it has the better processor, but this 3800H is heads and tails in all aspects from my older models Denons (960H and 1700H)!!! Separation and dynamics are worlds apart!
keep the 4700h for more power for your speakers and wait to upgrade to the 4800 down the road. if you only have 1 or 2 subs then no need to get 3800 or 4800. the new menus are nice but doesnt change the functionality. (4700h owner here) running 7.2 right now soon to be 7.2.4
@P T nice info but I would have to look at both receivers other options to compare. There are a few options in the menus that effect perceived dynamic range in both receivers. So that is a whole lot of testing that only the owner would go through to assess. We may never really know independently from a double blinded study of all those different combinations...users can just report how you did and that's all we will get.
@Technodad Very informative video! Would you mind validating that I understand the screens at 8:08: I can power my LCR with a 3ch amp and power my remaining six speakers (4 atmos and 2 rear surrounds) with the AVR?
Great channel, I have a question please I have Yamaha RXV683 and I just added Emotiva A1 top firing atmos and receiver is set to 5.1.2 but I have noticed there is very little to no audio is coming from atmos speakers with atmos movies as well and I have disconnected all the speakers except the atmos and made sure there’s no audio or very little audio, is it my receiver or it’s the way front presence work?

Awesome!
Even Channa's quick videos contain more than other people's in-depth reviews ❤🔥❤🔥
I do what I can! New lighting came in last week so this was a great way to test it out!
@@TechnoDad lighting is top notch TD. Sweet studio look for sure.
Where can I find Channa’s channel? Can’t find it
Trying to decide on the Denon x6700h or x4800h etc.I don't want to spend more than $3400 .I currently have a 5.2.4 setup .
My 3800H is a true Gem!!! Love it!! Highly recommended as a possible "endgame" unit because of versatility.
What model TV do you have? You have a PS5 connected? Any issues?
And an extra 500 dollars on top of 350 dollars on top to upgrade to dirac.
Auro 3D is huge gamechanger and the main reason i went got this X3800.....
to upmix lowsy not so good Atmos Dvds.
Agreed!!!
Would like to know what you decided and if you have issues with input lag and CEC issues. What model TV do you have?
I was about to pull the trigger on getting a Rotel 1576mkii (for the same price as this) but this has changed the game. Update on hdmi, 4 subs outs, Dirac, multi zone and Made in Japan. Glad I waited lol
What is the best speaker configuration to use 9 channels?, and how to configure and assign the amplifier connectors for those 9 channels?
I have always done 5.1.4
@@TechnoDad Ok, then you don´t use SR speakers ?, you use HFS and HBS speakers?
Hi Channa, Thanks for letting us know about the X6800 coming out! Jay
Woot woot! No problem!
@@TechnoDad I need the 6800 NOW! Have the 3800 and before the 6700, i need the 6800, external Amplifikation with the 3800 is just not up to the Task...
Is it wrong that after years of staring at that 480p menu system, I want to buy this just for the updated UI? I mean, I'm not gonna... but I wanna.
100% why I would upgrade! LOL!! Good thing I have a great business going.
You aren't wrong 😅😭
Thank you. 😂 Same thought here. I’m still using my 2300 Denon and thinking about upgrading to the 3800. I wonder how big the differences in sound are?
5.4.6 and my Wife is good with it in the living room! I’m a lucky man. Marantz Cinema 40 in my future.
Woot woot!!!
Great video brother. I just upgraded to the 3800 from the 3600 and I was wondering. If I leave the video setting on auto is the denon adding any processing to the picture? I really would rather my A90J handle all the processing. Should I set it to bypass? Thanks keep on keepin on brother
You are always excited about the 3800…. 😊
I am about to get 4800…. And nothing stopping me but your reviews😂
My dream set up is a 5.2.4 with a zone 2 for 2 outside patio speaker.
loving those new menus for sure.
Yes! This is correct. Powers 9 channels, processes 11 channels.
There are colorful buttons at the bottom of the remote to run Auro 3d for the 3800 for all audio
Thx
I am using two atmos speakers currently as surround back speakers. Would you recommend me keeping it this way or moving them to rear height??
Thank you for this. My next upgrade before any speaker upgrades will be this receiver. Book it!
Wow! - Amazing receiver advances! - Love my (older 4400H) Denon! - Great review! - Cheers!
wish Denon would give a downloadable update for my 4800 I bought last year!!!!
Yeah, I don't think they can do that. They swapped out the HDMI board and added the fours subwoofer outputs. An update for the UI would be cool, but I don't thin it's that easy.
for the new menus that would be sweet to get those on my 4700h
Hey TD great video as always! I have an issue with the Denon AVR-X3700H. It has to do with the HDMI switching and CEC issues that many have complained about here on RUclips. It was just purchased this past July 2022. Denon CS has not been much help. I have a 2022 LG C2 OLED, using Audio Quest cinnamon
Hdmi cables, other cables work fine as well.
Would like to know if anyone has the PS5 connected to a 3700 or the 3800 with a 2022 LG C2 OLED and if you have issues or not.😊
Any reply guy?

Are you going to DIRAC Test it against Audyssey? They say you can save both on the presets

How does auro matic upscaler work in this avr?

Question: can that same setup be done on the Denon X4700H???
From what I know it’s because dts is more relaxed than Dolby
If you changed the setting from side height to too middle then you’d get all 6 height active in Dolby atmos

Thanks Channa. Good descriptive vid. I thought this avr was going to be 13.1 processing capable with 9 amps. Looks like it's not? That's a bit of a bummer. 7.2.6 would have been good.

I hope you answer this since you own the Arcam AVR11 as well.
Between the X3800h and the AVR11, which one do you prefer and why?
Here's something that just happened. I had to remove the AVR11 because there were some HDMI issues and the AVR wasn't seeing a signal from the DirecTV box. I put the Marantz back in and no problems. It's something to do with these higher-end AVR companies. Small, little quirks. I have no idea what was happening, but I needed to swap AVRs before the Sunday Night Football game started. Otherwise, wifey was not going to be happy. When she starts complaining about the AVR not working, it's usually got to go!
Hey Channa, how to assign 5 bed layers to pre amp and rest 4 height speakers to power internaly by 3800H? Thank you

Emotiva BasX external amps. Zeskit HDMI 8k cables. Great quality and price.
So the 6800H is confirmed coming out q1 2023!!??
Another informative video, thank you!
I currently have the 3600h with an emotiva basx a3 for lcr, is the 3800 worth the step up or would it be beneficial going to the next model?
Thanks 👍 😊
wait for the 4800h
Can I use Bose acousticmass speakers for height channels? 🤔 It just hit me. Because mines are just sitting in a box unused right now. I'm thinking I can get some more use out of these speakers. Had them since 2006.
Yeah, you totally could use those. Can you position them so they are aligned and not pointing in different directions? That could be an issue...
What is pre-out only ? I plan to get this model 🎉
Pre-Out only means you are externally powering all your speakers with a separate amplifier.
Is there a way to update the x4700H so that it can place 6 ceiling speakers?
Unfortunately, no. You would have to get at least an X3800H - amzn.to/477wCPl - or the X4800H - amzn.to/3NTYFJb - but both of those will only allow 5.1.6 with a power amp. If you wanted to run 7.1.6, you would need the X6700H - amzn.to/3K1QVDL
Under speaker setup/manual, I am missing the menu option for amp assign and speaker configuration. What gives?
After a specific update, they changed the menu system. Here’s a video - ruclips.net/video/NDD7KZSCbp8/видео.htmlsi=UU4RnpfdEnVsexQf
I ended up having to reset the firmware, that did the trick. I'm off and running now. Thanks!
So is this a real 11.2 receiver or 9.2 receiver and you have to have a pre amp?
You don't, "have to have a pre amp", it is a pre amp. I believe it has 9 amplifier channels, so it can power 9 speakers by itself. It also has pre amp output for up to 11 channels, so if you have an external amplifier to cover the two additional channels, it can be an 11 channel.
The ideal use of a receiver like this for most people would be to use external amplifiers for the Left, Center, and Right speakers and use the internal amplifiers for everything else.
@@mfkhometheater7742 Thank you for your reply I mean The price of purchasing an external amp among us will buy an actual 11.2 receiver correct?
@@JonathanWillis Honestly I don't want to buy another preamp and I just want to do 11.2... Or a 7.2.4 system
I listened to this 3800h and I thought it sounded better than the cinema 50 I also think it sounds better than rz50 maybe what your opinion running 5.1 updates to atmos soon 2 or 4 is the 3800 good and something that just works ty
I use the X3800H in my living room for a 5.1.4 Atmos setup and a 10.1 Auro-3D setup as well. Love it!
@@TechnoDad I had to rest my rz50 still can return for no sound after airplay and airplay drops out sometimes are u using Dirac doing mostly movies but like music also thanks for the reply
Is 5.1.4 same as 10.1 auto 3d
How does this compare to Marantz cinema 50?
Looking into purchasing the avr 3800. Good or bad idea to purchase a refurbished one?
I have never purchased a refurb before. Shoot me an email, maybe I can get you a deal on a new one - TechnoDad55 at gmail dot com.
So the 4 Subs preouts for the X3800 may not be all that useful... are there ANY other reasons to consider an upgrade, assuming someone dumped $1700 on my doorstep?
on the 3800H you might want to rethink that process... The separate 4 sub channels work GREAT!
@@cgm246 even if that was a desire, wouldn't a minidsp do about the same thing for a fraction of the cost?
@@StephenAtt797 sure, but not directional bass...and with alot more tinkering than the Audtyssey XT32 needs.
@@cgm246 granted, that's why I avoided minidsp... too much tinkering for me, have my hands full with REW and Audyssey Ipad app
@@StephenAtt797 more devices and cables/connections and more things to go wrong and not interface correctly.
Question, if I have a Vizio surround sound setup, is it possible to add height channels? Am I able to get a receiver and somehow mount speakers?
You can’t use a soundbar and AVR in conjunction. You will have to choose one or the other.
Yea, you can!
How do u get more 65 on the volume I got Marantz cinema 40
Great channel, I have a question please I have Yamaha RXV683 and I just added Emotiva A1 top firing atmos and receiver is set to 5.1.2 but I have noticed there is very little to no audio is coming from atmos speakers with atmos movies as well and I have disconnected all the speakers except the atmos and made sure there’s no audio or very little audio, is it my receiver or it’s the way front presence work?
Atmos sucks, Auro 3d with 4 height channels is best
