      Hi Andrew. Good video. I was wondering something about the Atmos speakers. I have some Klipsch tower speakers and like to toe in (about 30°). I also have Atmos speakers on top of the towers in upfiring config so they end up also with toe in. Would this affect the sound path bouncing from the ceiling?

Andrew's excellent writing skills is only exceeded by his oratory prowess. My opinion is based on setting my first 5.1 surround system in 1995, and the multiple formats that have followed. Auto Calibration (Audyssey, Dirac, YPao, etc) are hit and miss on most entry and mid level receivers/processors. For novices Andrew's fantastic Primer is the way to go. • @eriklindahl7376
      @eriklindahl7376 3 года назад +1

      In general you want all speakers set to small, even floor-standing speakers. If you set them to large a lot of receivers completely disregard your cross-over setting to your sub(s). Hence bass or sub-bass might not play at all (since few towers play down to 20-30 Hz) and even if they do, most don’t do it well or they tax your reciver a lot more than needed.
      Setting them to small you can experiment with a lower or higher cross-over.

    • @vishwavishwathan6236
      @vishwavishwathan6236 3 года назад

      @@eriklindahl7376 there is a way to get full range in large ; most of avr have some sort of a bass-boost or extra-bass(in Yamaha avr) the name sounds like avr adding additional fake bass but what it actually does is, avr let all channel play full range and also send a copy of the lower end of all the channels to the subwoofer as well, in that way subwoofer will cover for the ultra low of every channel, but this is suitable for large speaker setups….

    All this sounds crazy. One guy on the other you tube channel says up-firing (Klipsch 40SA) sitting on the main L+R speakers are not good. He says don't waste your money. Says - Use either bookshelf on the wall directed at the seating position or in-ceiling.
    Now, Andrew is saying different. I am confused.
    Here is the thing: I live in a rental apartment. Cutting the ceiling for the speakers, running wires? My landlord will charge me a hefty fine. Upfiring on top the speaker is the way to go. I already have a 5.1 setup off of the Denon Receiver. I have two "OLD" bookshelf speakers. I can hang them things on the wall behind my TV. Will that be sufficient?Will I get the effect of atmos?
    All that will cost me are two iron brackets. Sure, I can put two holes to install hefty brackets. Landlord wouldn't know. Just the wires will hang from those speakers that may look ugly.
    So I am going to go by what Andrew says. Anyone care to comment for renters like me?

    • @schemkesa
      @schemkesa 2 месяца назад

      upward firing speakers will have very little to none effect. In ceiling isn't possible, I understand, but place them as high as possible, right above your left and right speaker, onto the wall, pointing directly at you. This will give you the best Atmos effect and is often called better in stead of in ceiling speakers. It's for sure easier to install! Tell your receiver you have height speakers installed and it will do everything for you to calibrate them for Atmos

    • @mexdrago3009
      @mexdrago3009 2 месяца назад

      You dont need in ceiling speakers. Your ears can't be tricked. I bought a q990b because I didn't want to make too many holes in my house rental. For channel separation, it's worse than my old 7.1 onkyo. Just out a speaker bracket on the ceiling. I'd rather have ugly wires and awesome atmos than upfiring speakers.

    Your videos are awesome, I've learned a lot binge watching them over the past week. My lady doesn't like you much though, I watched your video on the Jamo and thought yes. So a week ago I somehow got her on board with me getting a Jamo 5.1.2 setup ($1450) She wasn't thrilled with it though "too much $$$ it's just sound"
    Welp, I watched this video + some of your other reviews and knew I wouldn't be happy long term if I went all Jamo. So, watching more of your stuff + a few other YT audio fellas. I thought to myself "ohhhh, Polk Reserve looks beautiful in Walnut and gets good reviews." The problem there is, there's uhhhh... a slight bump in price, and by slight, I mean 3x. The "same" setup from Jamo S and Polk Reserve, Polk's almost 3x the price to the penny lol. Polk is great but she tells me "the TV has built in speakers" so I can't explain this to her. A week ago she thought Jamo was expensive lol.
    Apparently, she doesn't appreciate good audio, so she has refused my request to go buy the Reserve stuff. But she did give me a monthly budget, so I can buy a piece or 2 a month and have a home theater going by November. WOO HOO to a half-victory! Which is better than no victory at all. Also, Polk seems to have big Black Friday sales in October & November, so MAYBE since I gotta wait to save up my allowance anyways, I'll be able to get this whole setup for only 2.5x as much as the Jamo for BF. That would make her happy lol, yeah right...
    Your videos helped me realize I should go Reserve, and when she finally hears 7.2.2 in all its glory she'll understand and she'll love it. At least that's how it works in my wild imagination.
    Thank you sir.

I decided to mount the heights to the wall and it was a night and day experience, where you can hear the sound from what the sound engineer set those scenes for.
    So I'm wondering why you didn't mention wall mounting the speakers you have or didn't mention that you could, seeing that your room seems almost identical to mine?

    Not including the accessories.. The current total for this audio setup is around $4200. Would you recommend this set up over Sony A9 with bigger sub? Thank you

    Enjoyed the video! Still fairly new to world of surround, but 5.1.2 or 7.1 are my current setup options until I upgrade my receiver (looking at the continuously out of stock Onkyo). Any opinion on the differences between those two options and if one is significantly better?

    Hi Andrew
    Awesome video and always love your content. I have a question about the angle of the upfiring Atmos speakers. Is there a way to "calculate" the ideal angle based on the ceiling height and the distance between the speakers and the main listening position?

    great great video for noobs... I know there are a lot of standards floating around, but I think a video on the difference between eARC and ARC, HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.1 difference, lossy Atmos. One long video on all of these and we can just come here and have a reference point.
    Thanks a lot once again Andrew... Cheers

    Worth mentioning that you can use something like the SVS Prime Elevation speaker instead of in-ceiling or bounce speakers. I live in an apartment and didn't want to wall mount so I just put speaker stands on top of my TV stand. Not the prettiest solution but the sound is incredible (arguably better than in-ceiling as those often sacrifice sound for form factor).

      I was always wondering what is the best you can do. There is in-ceiling, height, and bounce. I didn't know which is best.
      I think best would be X.X.6 setup, where 2 front height, 2 - in ceiling middle, and 2 back height.

    Hi Andrew.
    I have the HT-A9 which I like. I am decorating and have the option to run wires. For sound and experience alone what is your opinion on which system is best. If this 5.1 system was so good in comparison I would happily sell the HT-A9. To add I do have the Bravia TV centre speaker setup. Love your channel. Thanks.... Stephen

    What crossover do you recommend for the Atmos speakers? I currently have Eltax Monitor ATM and I have them set at 180 hz. From the floor to the ceiling I have 2.7m and from the speaker to the ceiling 1.6m. I have a Sony DH790 and in the amp menu I have set the ceiling height to 2.7m. Do I have too set the distance from the speaker and not from the floor? Thank You in advance.

    Do you recommend sound diffusion panels? They seem expensive. Is the price worth the improvement in audio? The rooms I will set up as my home is somewhat wide and tall, without furnitures there is an audible echo. Should I look into diffusion panels or is it just bs?

    Fantastic video and great timing as I'm in the process of my final decision on my first home theater set up. 1 quick question, would you go with the Klipsch RP-504C over the RP-600C that you've listed here? I've already pre-ordered the Onkyo RZ50 due to your awesome video on it earlier, though unfortunately I couldn't get it through your link as I live in Canada and had to buy local... Very seriously considering the BDI Octave as well, not much else out there with the same features it seems, love the look and the IR pass through of the doors.
