Same...I heard it for the first time on my local rock station when I was trying to get home from work when the road to my subdivision was blocked. I drove around and listened to this loudly... I "had the urge to sing along"😂
They have become more generic and formulaic after All The Right Reasons. I don't think they deserve the hate they get though. That being said, their first 2-3 were good, especially The State.
Comparing this style against anything in their last few albums is why the hate exists. I used to proudly declare Nickelback was my favorite band, even in a sea of hate. Today, I can’t defend them, nor do I keep up with their work. Their newer, modern, radio-friendly, cookie cutter, copy-and-paste jobs dont hold a flame to their older, post-grunge angst and emotional songs of yesteryear's work.
Everyone hates them, but somehow they sell records. Strange indeed. Always but an unashamedly fan. P.s. pretty sure in an interview they spoke of how this song was either written on boomers, or about being on boomers. Can't recall which.
This track is so good, I’ve been listening to it for 26 years. It doesn’t suffer from the drowned out vocals that some of the other early Nickelback tracks do. Actually, in fact, especially the first verse vocals sound amazingly present. They really pull you in and make you feel like you’re right there in the room. And I know this music video was probably a low budget quick production, but the imagery of it has stuck in my head for years. You have to remember they hadn’t even had a huge hit yet at this time. Someone really believed they were going to keep going up
@unclephil3902 im getting deftone vibes from this song ngl😭 idk if thats frat boy rock or if u mean like, nickelback saw it, thought itd be cool and did it if thats wha u mean lol
these old nickelback songs were crazy good, songs like this and breathe I think was one of the other ones...back when they were really good in the beginning
This whole album was awesome. Post grunge but new sounding. Regardless of how you feel about this band, it healed the wounds of the loss of Cobain and made us love rock n roll again
actually i think i read an article once that kurt had a time machine and he went into the future and saw what terrible bands were going to exist so he decide to end it all. he was really ahead of his time on that one ha ha ha
It only took nearly 30 years to realize this song was by Nickleback. I absolutely loved this song in the 90's and it kind of fell to the wayside for me.
I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was driving to work at the beach while I was in high school. I was "who are these guys? they are amazing" and bought the CD a couple days later and played the hell out of it.
I opened for Nickelback in 1998, It was jut before they released the State album. NIckelback played this song in soundcheck and I knew it was going to be a hit on the radio. I told Chad. Chad stayed after soundcheck and we talked for hours together. We were basically the same person. His lead guitarist's Father loaned the band $25k to make The State Album and the pressing of the records a reality. Chad and I both looked like Big eared long haired jesus guys and we could scream as good as Metallica, Pantera, Soundgarden notes. We had all the same influences. He as an amazing performer and his vocals crushed just like the albums pitch perfect with all the attack and growl his voice carries when he sings hard. They were the best band I ever opened for. I knew that I was very close to his level as a singer I just needed more time on the road playing for talented people to get it which I never got. Respect Nickelback they rose from a tiny Alberta town band, to a Vancouver City band to a cross Canada touring in a van band, to touring around the globe on jets in Buses for each member. And Chad shared writing credits with all his band members when he could have kept all that money for himself as evidenced in the Rockstar writing credits going to all band members, which is a real rarity. Chad Kroeger is my fucking hero, and I'm so proud he made it!
I won’t be ashamed to say I’m a huge fan of Nickelback and the reason is songs like this one, where do I hide and Woke up this morning. All of them are underrated bangers!
I think he made this song about his fbi agent. Or when he was channeling his inner female sigma. I wonder if they read these things 🤔. These bands must hate me 🤗
This is one of my ex girlfriend who passed away over ten years ago favorite song... Everytime i pullit up which is once a week i find myself balling....its therapy 😊
Nothing groundbreaking, but how many groundbreaking artists can there really be? I can say for sure that Nickelback (surprise surprise) is not without talent. Solid track.
This deserves more views than most of their mainstream material since 2001. This to me is way better than most of their break-up anthems or their wannabe a rockstar someday songs.
İ love nickleback.... Wish they would do a 2000 throwback style album again with no ballads though.. As much as I love a nickleback ballad, I want to hear that country style rock and roll again. 😉🤘

Many years ago I heard this on the radio very late one night but couldn't find out who it was. About 5 or 6 years later I stumbled across it again and it was even more bad ass than I remembered! These guys put out some really fine music early on but for some reason got a reputation that they really don't deserve.
I went through the same thing with a Massive Attack song called Protection. I heard it late one night and spent ten years looking for it. When I found it I played it constantly.
I just find it really impressive how these bands from "our time" got famous without help from youtube or facebook to share their music. It was purely radio and word of mouth. I wonder if musicians now are making more money, or if it's still amounting to the same, because of the costs of things and value of the dollar? Like this video only has 9,000 views, but we know nickleback is still rich.
This song was written when they were still underground and trying to "make it" in the music world and you can really tell a difference with how much better and more enjoyable a listen it is than their material from 2001 and beyond.
Blew my mind that Chad said in the documentary that they made no money on this record. I remember sitting in my garage night after night with this being played on the local radio station in NJ.
the first three nickelback songs hit like a hammer, and had songs like this, figured you out, and how you remind me that came off their second, third and fourth albums that we're awesome. then basically they pulled a metallica and went super mainstream and started sucking.
My best friend and I were 90’s teens. Growing up, I liked country music, he liked alternative rock. He introduced me to this song, Cumbersome, Champagne Supernova, a lot of the good ones.
I remember hearing some of their more chill songs and I was like “Yeah whatever” being a Metallica fan I was fully into heavy and loud, and then when my mum chucked this on I fell in love, even if I’m in the mood I’ll listen to their more mellow calm songs
Never understood the hate towards Nickelback. I have an eclectic music appreciation, and Nickelback has some great songs. Figured you out would be my second fav after Leader of Men
I LOVE Nickelback~ this was my first album at 7 or 8 years old, and I became a lifelong Nickelback fan! Of course, " Silver Side Album" catapulted them to fame, and was a departure from their previous " grunge" sound here... "All the Right Reasons" was around the time they fired drummer Mike Vikedal, and after that I was so mad I stopped listening. So I really haven't heard their "new" stuff. But I will always go back to this song, and " How You Remind me" ...
Daniel Adair is a better drummer than Vikedal. But in fact, in the beginning they were groundbreaking, and I say that being a fan of almost all their albums( No Fixed Address is shit only in my opinion)
My favorite album of theirs is Long Road and a few songs from Silver Side. But I’d have to agree their earliest stuff is objectively better. But anything after the Long Road album I just can’t stand to listen to anymore since I’ve heard them all a million times from the radio lol.
Absolutely killer tune. I remember buying this record when it came out and I took it with me when I moved to Ontario. No one there knew who these guys were yet. Highly recommend the album prior to this, Curb. Great stuff
This was the first nickelback song i ever heard. It just resonates deeper than the rest for me
Word
Same here.
Caught my ear and never let go. Saw the band 2000/12/02 Pearl Street Northampton and it stuck
This is the only album I listen to from them. After that, money destroyed them.
Same...I heard it for the first time on my local rock station when I was trying to get home from work when the road to my subdivision was blocked. I drove around and listened to this loudly... I "had the urge to sing along"😂
The best nickleback song out there.
thats really sad lol
Definitely!
You got that right...
There are several off this album that are far better than their later, more commercial stuff. Most notably, this one, Worthy to Say and Breathe.
great song.
Still Jammin NB in 2024 💪🏼
Here with you brother !!!!!
Always❤
Don't understand the hate of Nickelback... I think it's more people just doing it because it's trendy cause this song is freaking awesome.

Some genuine dislike, some just copying others, some scared to have their own opinion and disagree with the consensus.
This song is awesome but they went and became this over generic bar rock band
This track is so good, I’ve been listening to it for 26 years. It doesn’t suffer from the drowned out vocals that some of the other early Nickelback tracks do. This was the first song I heard by them. And its still there best pure rock song
Their only one
@@seangarner2687 You clearly haven't heard all of their first three albums
Same here. I always thought it was called Hard to Swallow!
*their
And also, definitely not their best pure rock song. You’re taste is dog shit at least
One of the best songs ever. It doesn't matter what fragile egos and groups think.
I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s pretty good. Nickelback on their first two albums were fantastic. “The Long Road” was also pretty great.
@unclephil3902 can u please explain what a frat boy rock song is lolol
@unclephil3902 im getting deftone vibes from this song ngl😭 idk if thats frat boy rock or if u mean like, nickelback saw it, thought itd be cool and did it if thats wha u mean lol
@unclephil3902 Chad Kroeger became happier. So what?
I agree.
these old nickelback songs were crazy good, songs like this and breathe I think was one of the other ones...back when they were really good in the beginning
Exactly
I agree
Epic voices and rock that sound...epic
who's listening to this banger in 2024 ?
Me

I saw them at the Usana Amplitheatre years ago!
They were awesome!
❤❤❤❤❤
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Definately!
It's my fave NB cut.
I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE NICKELBACK!
Hell yeah!❤
This whole album was awesome. Post grunge but new sounding. Regardless of how you feel about this band, it healed the wounds of the loss of Cobain and made us love rock n roll again
Nailed it...
... this single came out like 6 years after Kurt passed. There were plenty more bands who helped with the transition much sooner and better
Others did it much sooner and much better. Yep. Nailed it haha
actually i think i read an article once that kurt had a time machine and he went into the future and saw what terrible bands were going to exist so he decide to end it all. he was really ahead of his time on that one ha ha ha
@@amasterofbation Dude... c'mon, be real...
*Kurt could've just used his time machine to keep those bands from existing*
They will never make a better song than this one.
It only took nearly 30 years to realize this song was by Nickleback. I absolutely loved this song in the 90's and it kind of fell to the wayside for me.
No other Nickelback song can beat this! Their best so far!
Still the best NB song
Always will be. My anthem since 2001.
the only one thats not cringy,,,
@@zero..the..hero. The State is their only album I will listen to. They should have followed their rock roots vs their money grabbing issues.
The State was my introduction to Nickelback and I'll forever cherish this album.
Post grunge Nickelback is the best Nickelback
Fight me.
Isn't all Nickelback post grunge? I guess you mean that they've softened up compared to their early days when they actually knew how to rock hard.

My favorite song (fine again). Need more songs like em
This was the jam. Knew after this they would be huge.

This deserves more views than most of their mainstream material since 2001. This to me is way better than most of their break-up anthems or their wannabe a rockstar someday songs.
I can’t believe I am only watching the video for the first time!! This is one of my fav Nickelback songs!

like. it's just not a close call.

The whole Dark horse album was a masterpiece; i mean sure I don’t like all their songs. But compared to dark horse, this song is mediocre
This is the song that hooked me
My buddy and I listened to this album together in the early 2000’s together in high school. Love these guys
Good ole days were you’d get pumped to buy a new CD and go cruising around
I love the table flip!
Brilliant song .. Grunge sound really works for them
excellent album! The State is my favorite, hands down. Sp many good memories of driving down the roads with the windows down, cranking this album.
The State and Curb are my personally favorite Nickelback albums🤘
Devil went down to Georgia is Nickelback's only redeemable song I've ever heard. That's just my humble opinion
BEST!!!! hands down best freaking song by Nickelback 💯🙌😎😍🎶🎧🎸🎤🎵🔊🎼
Ya. I love Nickleback. Always have always will. You'll just have to make up your own mind for yourself.
This is their best song by far!
Such a powerful song! Just remembered this banger ❤️
⭐🎸⭐LYRICS⭐🎸⭐
Tell your friends not to think out loud
Until they swallow
Whisper things into my brain
Your voice sounds so hollow
I am not a leader of men
Since I prefer to follow
Do you think I could have a drink
Since it's so hard to swallow
Yeah, so hard to swallow
So turn your television off
And I will sing a song
And if you suddenly have the urge
You can sing along
I touch your hand, I touch your face
I think the fruit is rotten
Give me lessons on how to breathe
Cause I think I've forgotten
Yeah, I think I've forgotten
Ooh, one day, up to a cliff
That overlooks the water
I jumped in to save a girl
It was somebody's daughter
And now the ring is on my hand
It was given to me by her
To this day we all sit around
And dream of ways to get higher
To get much higher
Tell your friends not to think out loud
Until they swallow
Whisper things into my brain
Your voice sounds so hollow
I am not a leader of men
Since I prefer to follow
Do you think I could have a drink
Since it's so hard to swallow
So hard to swallow
Nice!
I love all of it!!! Music rules… mostly 🤘🏻
Best Nickelback song ever!!!!
Love nickelback majority of their songs are good and still very heavy today
This song is their pinnacle!! Never gets old.

What a video,what a song,what a BAND!!!!
I’d give anything to have more new music come out like this!
The first time I heard this song on the music videos on tv in the early 90's, I knew the band would become something big. Love those guys.
I have ALWAYS LOVED this Song 🤘
One of my favorite Nickeyback tunes, its actually very serious and makes you think, such a cool tune.
I"m old enough to be their mother. Old school musicians. Hooked me. So talented. Fantasy is to see them live at least once.
Yeah my mother liked them too. They found their audience I guess.
They're touring USA 2023
The second version is The Leader Of Men from Nickelback from The Roadrunner Records.
Never understood why there are so many Nickleback haters. Saw them in concert last summer and they rocked. This is their best song!
Cos they suck
They wrote Rockstar and just getting writing it again and again, that's probably why
the first three nickelback songs hit like a hammer, and had songs like this, figured you out, and how you remind me that came off their second, third and fourth albums that we're awesome. then basically they pulled a metallica and went super mainstream and started sucking.
