The entire concept is quite interesting, and disturbing at the same time. How difficult it is to play outside of Chinese jurisdiction almost makes it seem like China is trying to hide something. And all the censorship and micro-transactions are unfortunate, because there are some actual genuinely interesting animations and designs within the launcher that I believe could actually be cool to implement within the official launcher.

@@christianryansino3257 No. Since the Chinese Chaos Mod makes players confused and makes them think the mod is part of the Chinese edition they will try to access the mods dimensions and get upset when they realize the content was part of a mod. The same happened with the Aether mod.
As a Chinese guy myself, I still love the original versions (JE & BE) for they actually give me pure nostalgia instead of garish payments. Yes, Minecraft China focuses on “community” and that is pretty cool, but I still love the original boot-up screen without daily checkin emerald and heavy censorship. As for censorship, I don’t care about the politics & stuff, but whenever I type anything that has nothing to do with swear words, the system heavily censors it with no reasons. Also talking about community features such as mods, textures & addons, yes, they have to be paid, and I understand that because NetEase need profits, but this gives me an unusual vibe. The only reason I still touch China Edition is free register and those mods, and revolutionary shaders like VSPE v3, CSPE, YSSBE & more, created by talented Chinese groups or individuals, are easily assessible if you got a NASA phone, and this aspect is really cool imo. (Also side note: From my knowledge most Chinese Minecraft players still prefer Java & Bedrock version and roast NetEase for those “features” presented on the China Edition from time to time even the player base is huge. Most of them just play China Edition for fun or free register.)
The thing is when one doesn't care about politics they get you anyways, and people's acceptance to government intervention leads to... well... more government intervention xD, and that ends up with you being unable to swear in the chat hahahaha, or to say something normal like "hey buddy let's build an emp***" xD, i live in Spain, and obviously it isn't like China, but even here we (or better said a large amount of individuals) think more government intervention in fine, more than some other countries do... we have more and more inflation, we can buy less stuff and opening a bussines is F, not to talk about the fact that it's easier to divorce than to say goodbye to an individual you collaborated with in a bussines dude/ plain worker relationship... idk, i understand it's hard and head can get oof with politics, but i think it's worth knowing the ways it could be... so one can choose wisely and if needed go to a country where they got politics better (or my favourites, where they don't have politics at all xD)
as someone who can read/understand Chinese, and who have went to Bilibili(China's RUclips) to see people talk about Minecraft China, there's few interesting thing I saw from there, censorship, they has censored word like "below", "netease"(the company that get the license from Mojang/Microsoft to make Minecraft China), any word related to hacks is auto censored, "Japan" etc. and then that some even feel Minecraft China is so bad that they have figure out a way to buy Minecraft Java/Bedrock, bypassing the great firewall
I went onto China Minecraft before when hypixel China was shutting down, it was crazy to see the difference between normal and Chinese Minecraft. I also remember how Chinese hypixel had a lot of games that were on hypixel, some new and old. And even for some games, like those in the arcade lobby, had higher leaderboard requirements than on normal hypixel, which was just insanity for me knowing how much time it took for some of the people on leaderboards spend to get there.
I played Chinese hypixel before I actually bought minecraft java, and let me tell you the amount of hackers that were there was totally insanity. Besides that, it was actually a good addition for the Chinese players since the actual Hypixel was hosted in the states, and by average I used to get 300 to 400 pings which was fairly unplayable
Fun fact: As a chinese person, the dream game in 10:07 basically means "Run from Dream the killer" in chinese. It seems western culture still exists in the form of cheap games.
Tbf, not only is that an interesting game mode but also terrifying. No need to personally ask Dream to chase you but just create an AI that is as skilled as he is.
There are not so many mysteries of Chinese version of Minecraft. It's just turning Minecraft into a cheap-made mobile style online game. In China, most people still prefer to play international version if possible.
@@brycecohoon Most of the big Streamers in China uses yhe global version too. Where the netease version is for Hackers, Asvertiser, 18+ Business and Kids who dont know how to use A VPN/ Dont have money

If you're saying for a Chinese person, then it'd definitely be good since basically all servers are hosted in the states and people would just get unplayable pings in China
The censoring honestly makes no sense. From the video, some of the stuff that was censored was: china, Japan, empire, qq, WeChat etc which are all pretty common stuff that I don't think are usually censored
@@wes00chin I assume China and Japan are censored for some political reasons. For example, saying "China sucks" For Japan, maybe it's for the war crimes during WW2 I guess? Probably a different reason though.
Regular minecraft on the bedrock edition also does this to a certain extent. Phrases that are sexual or extremist are censored, I think everyone can agree that least most of the censores are justified.
@@wes00chin Explation: country names are censored because Netease fears that players will make political statements. If this gets reported, the company will get into some minor but annoying trouble. QQ and Wechat are censored because there were criminals tricking minors to add them on social media, and Netease just decided that if 5 ppl are gonna be creeps, then no one is going to get to say these things.
@@_shadow_1 there is zero justification. Just because you don't like certain subjects or words doesn't in anyway make it a good thing to censor them. The absolutely rediculous part is you can just misspell it, or I dunno, build it out of blocks? The censorship is stupid and it's only there because mojang has an inflated sense of self importance. They aren't stopping anything from being said or conveyed, they just like to think they are.
Misterepic, this by far has to be one of the most interesting videos I've seen you post in my time watching. This topic is never discussed about Minecraft China and I had very little knowledge of what Minecraft China was like until I watched this video. Wonderful video and I can tell you put a lot of effort into it.
I mean for me and my friends we just use it as a pocket edition alternative when playing with those who have strict parents that don’t let them spend money. It’s practically the same as bedrock edition when playing singleplayer/LAN, with way easier methods of installing mods and playing online without a Microsoft account
Wow, what the fuck. I've literally had dreams like this, just a weird slightly distorted Minecraft thats similar to the base game, but isn't. It's honestly shocking to see all the differences between our version and China's as you'd think they'd be very miniscule such as minor censorship (similar to Terraria in China,) but it actually ends up being much crazier. Great video from the Epic 🐐
I'm from China and had the Chinese version of Minecraft for a while on mobile. That was about 4 years ago before I got my ass into Canada. To summarize my Chinese minecraft experience, I'd say it was pretty normal compared to regular minecraft bedrock edition except for the differences described in the video, even those were pretty moderate since some of the features weren't present 4 years ago and if my memory didn't fail me, I don't recall there being micro-transactions being in the game back then and many of the mobile-game-like buttons weren't there as well. It was just Minecraft bedrock edition with a new Launcher before things got crazy. Still can't believe dream is in Chinese Minecraft though I might try to get Minecraft Chinese edition just to check it out again
rights fittingly sound like something that doesn't come standard in China Good video, I didn't know there was an entirely separate version of Minecraft, but it does make sense as there is a censored one for CS:GO
Weirdest part about all this is that this might seem completely normal for Chinese players and our version strange because of censorship and whatever else
Lol. Most of the plots are just: - MC is abused by clan/sect or smth - Suddenly becomes OP - Tons of young master face slapping happens - Gets jade beauty - Ascends to new realm - RInse and repeat I never wouldve thought a minecraft mod would have a better plot than a real novel.
Only on Bedrock. Minecraft China looks like a Wet Dream for Bedrock edition, imagine so much microtransations without fear of backlash or anything lmao. Java is safe ... For now.
@@SomethingNameArchived Any swear and some more words here and there ... If Im not mistaken, "stupid" or "retarded" is censored too ... I don't find that a swear but okay.
I am in a half-chinese guild on hypixel (many of them know good english as well). Apparently they can still access Java through some VPNs or something. We used to even have a youtube rank that they got from videos on BiliBili, basically chinese youtube.
I’m Chinese American, and somewhat understand to some extent why it is this way. Although I am not familiar with many games from china, it is realistic to see just ripoff mobile style games, in pretty much any game. I also don’t know how or why, but fighting mythological creatures and sometimes an emperor is a trend in Chinese games. Everything there in this video does make sense, but the way to connect it is a bit complex.
Ngl the launcher reminds me of MCPE Master. Basically for you java dudes its an old Pocket Edition(not bedrock, just pocket edition) launcher that used to exist(it has now shut down). In the launcher you can find maps, servers, mods, seeds, skins, texture packs and more. When you launch the game using the launcher it gives you a floating app where there are hacks and other built in stuff like world edit. It was a really good app back in the day not only for hacking but also for single player worlds since using the app you can enchant stuff way past the limit(something very hard for bedrock mobile) so you can make custom stuff for maps
BRO EXACTLY the UI is extremely similar too, and the color scheme of the UI included i was literally thinking to myself "were the people behind MCPE Master hired to make the Chinese version of Minecraft?"
As a Minecraft China player myself, I have to say that like 90% of the Minecraft China player plays it because we don't have the access to Minecraft java (or what we call as "Minecraft International version"). The reason why Minecraft China looks so mobile game like and have so many VIP stuff in it is that Netease design it to be played by kids, and they what to attract these kids to pay money with these fancy stuff so that they can make money, which is acceptable because they really do make some very cool features but just go too far with this idea. Also they add too many additional stuff into the game that makes it constantly lagging and Netease shows no sign of fixing this problem. For the censorship it really isn't all about hiding away secret things or control minds or things like that (like honestly, who would do that in Minecraft), it's all about the sex abuse that happens in the game chat and mentions by the government, and Netease has to add censorship to prevent this from happening, but again, went too far with this idea and make it look like a game made by a dictating government. Lastly for the "more rights" section, it's hilarious coincidence that this actually makes a lot of sense, because in China Netease is famous for giving no rights to players who don't pay money
@@ddm_gamer Tiananmen Square is a stereotype of China censorship, me as a chinese literally don't know about this until I saw this on RUclips, and of course we won't talk about it. But yeah, the censorship really just works as like it's been controlled by a dictating government, the letter "Xi" is literally unusable in most games' chat system, and shockingly the word "communism" is also unavailable for most games and even online novel. I don't think it's the government that cause this though, since it apply this to a wide variety of words even include "grass"(sometime refer to F word in Chinese, also been one of the most famous joke about the Netease censorship since in Minecraft you often need to mention the grass block). It's just an immature government that saw the power of internet and are terrified of what it can do, and decide to do everything they can to limit its power. Probably within twenty or thirty years when a new generation of leadership arise in the government, the censorship problem will disappear(at least not as strict as what it is now)
10:14 The mob vote here is interesting and I never knew about that. So the description basically says Chinese players can vote for these mobs shown on screen and the winner will move on to the final vote during Minecon. Apparently panda actually won two rounds of votes to be made into the game
As a Chinese person, who played Chinese mc, it was free to play, but the game is heavily modded, the games are really rigged and p2w (multiplayer), in a lot of ways the devs ruined the game in some ways directly due to regulations by the government, I feel like the thing happened to Chinese roblox is happening to the Chinese minecraft
The devs made the game very limited and with no actual freedom the users have, because of the Chinese government censorship lots of things are controlled (information), they control what you see and what you won’t see. Isn’t this getting close to 1984?
What are you doing?! You're gonna get yourself in a terrifying situation with the dream fanbase! Don't you know that scientific studies show that that fanbase is more toxic than a nuclear wasteland?!
I can say that this video is probably the best and most accurate when it comes to explaining this version of Minecraft. I also happen to know a few people from China. They are currently making a Java mod and Bedrock addon called dragon mounts 3 so if anyone wants to talk with them you can join their discord server
@@M0D776 It's a bad thing because the reason it's this way in China is that non-chinese game devs have to partner up with a chinese company to sell in China, practically creating a monopoly in the games market in China
Fun fact before Chinese Minecraft (hosted by Netease) there was actually another modded version called 我的世界盒子 (Minecraft box) which closer resembles the actual Minecraft
Resuming: it's just like western Minecraft but with lots of censure. It has a community that does a lot of crazy modding and is really into mobile games.
not mentioning that Chinese people can actually play the normal java version and acting like china is the pure evil where you cant even play normal mc seems a little odd to me and feeds into western sinophobia
You know what this whole thing makes me think of? Trove Why? Because of all the 4d skins and components and all that. It doesn't feel right to see that in a minecraft game. The only place it really felt acceptable to have 3d parts on a minecraft skin (at least to me) was from the official skin packs made for minecraft console edition. I've always felt a bit weird about having things like that in the bedrock market place, but this, this just doesn't look right at all. Also all the micro transactions and stuff that makes it feel like a mobile game adds on to that. It really looks like something ripped straight from Trove.
Holy fuck I know what Trove is lmao, sank way too much time into it before I hit a weird point where I just didn't understand what else I was meant to do
China is Insane when it comes to Computer and Online, This is a example how they made a entire version of minecraft just to stop people in china from going to international servers in minecraft.
Western people say that the Chinese have a distorted view of the world because CCP filters information. However, that same fact also applies to westerners themselves - They see China in a negative light because they cannot truly understand what is happening in there. Since 99.9% of westerners can't read Chinese, they have to rely on someone else's translations. I have to tell you, when you already have a negative mental image of China, you'll "interpret" the translation google gave you wrong. FYI, not every single thing in China is secretly controlled by the government. This is just straight up conspiracy theories, you might as well just say "illuminati controls everything in America". The purchase of the rights to minecraft in China was done by Netease simply because they found it profitable - and profit they did.
I'm sorry that this doesn't have anything to do with the video, but i think it's pretty neat that there's a lot more people from Latvia (My country) who watch your videos. Anyways, great video! Keep it up.
It's interesting they've tried to make the launcher into some kind of total ingame community system with everything integrated together. Kind of like bedrock but way more like bedrock THAN bedrock. It's a very efficient system but also well if you don't like the way it's managed you're kinda outta luck. Whereas Java's community is effectively stateless but completely dependent on a patchwork system of online forums, server lists, subreddits, RUclips, etc, each their own princedom with it's own rules and economic engine. Like bedrock however, I would say the apparent obsession with microtransaction capitalism scares me a bit.
LOL it actually said buying in-game perks. This is the problem with westerners trying to understand Chinese stuff: They use google translate, get an inaccurate translation, interprets it, add some of their biases, and forms this overwhelmingly negative mental image of China.
@@waifuoverdose888 you don't buy rights in china with in-app purchases. You buy them with social credit. The negative mental image is founded entirely in fact.
@@VoxelMusic Fun fact 1: I am Chinese :D Fun fact 2: There is no social credit system Fun fact 3: The western media lies about China as much as China lies about the west Once you have spent a good amount of time in different countries, you'll begin to realize politicians tell the same lies everywhere.
I played on two of those servers before they locked away outsiders. I played a game of Bedwars. Didn't go too well. I played a game of 4v4 Armed Bedwars. I was confused. I played a game of Survival Games and I was also confused on what to do. They also had 1-block SkyBlock. I was supposed to make a video on it but I lost the footage 💀 Oh by the way the server you were playing is called Hua Yu Ting
Worked in China for a year.. Besides the Genshin launch, I played all other games including Minecraft on unrestricted servers that are not under the Chinese ID system. It's not like people are limited to the Chinese version...
I wonder if it’s possible to make a mod pack to make minecraft look like the Chinese version but without all the censorship and spyware. It would be pretty cool checking out the dimensions and stuff
Not only did they rip off Dream, but at 4:08, the two skins in the middle of the blue icon are the skins of the Czech Minecraft RUclips duo HouseCZ and jezisek1, formerly known as MinecraftBox. They used to be very popular about a decade ago, IIRC, they were the first Czech YT channel to reach 100k subscribers. Jezisek1, AKA Ježich, left the channel back in late 2014 and now streams on Twitch, though he's now taking a break. Following Ježich's departure, House renamed the channel to HouseBox and is still active on there, his main series being Roblox.
The limitation on when and for how long people are allowed to play games, isn't a bad thing, especially in places like China and Japan, where they have a huge population of unemployed people who are addicted to gaming and end up becoming NEET's, and shutting themselves inside, never working, going to school, or even stepping outside.
@@AnEnderNon I've had a player on a server I play on that said he was in China and apparently the regular version works without a VPN, you might be unable to buy it though
Some kids try to bypass the 3 hours per week by using their parents account while people outside china tend to use their china relative accounts or even try to find deceased or missing citizen ID just to be able to play online game only in China.
So Netease is the culprit behind the chat censorship update in OUR version of Minecraft! That explains everything! It all makes sense now! Microsoft is preparing Minecraft so they can sell it to Netease!
Some time ago i played game called Mini World: CREATA which is a pretty good minecraft clone, which i believe is also Chinese. It looks really similar, especially the section with different servers, profile editing, it also has a social media element, and colors in this part are basically the same, green brown and beige. Interesting.
Chinese here(pls I am really Chinese), I have never touched the Chinese edition even once, and most people I know of just play normal java and bedrock like the rest of us. In my memory for most games people with some experiences (like teenagers rather than young kids) always choose to play the international version no matter what game it is.
In China ver they do have shader which is really look like rtx, it has real time reflection and shadows I think and apparently on Minecraft PE we dont have any...
For us Chinese, it is too difficult to play. I mean the Chinese special version. Most players in our Chinese version have switched to the international version
Hey MisterEpic, I just have to point out that Chinese people under 18 could only play from 8:00-9:00Pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So not a lot of people could really enjoy it sadly.
This is such a high quality video! Great job, Minecraft China edition is such a mysterious game, and I knew so little about! Great job TheMisterEpic! P.S: Will there be any more videos with SapLow? I really enjoyed watching those and the old servers!
I know a little. Minecraft China's Add-on marketplace has a lot of items, namely Skins and 4D skins, that we have as well: Every skin that is popular from the affordmentioned Dream, to Sword Art Online, and some other anime shows. On our Marketplace, the Fire and Ice skins are quite popular, and we see them briefly in Minecraft China as well!
I am a Chinese and I want to tell you more about Minecraft Chinese Edition. Minecraft Chinese Edition has some shortcomings, which causes many Chinese Minecraft players to spurn and enter the version you play. For example, in multiplayer games, the delay is too high. If you're not in China, the situation may be worse. Some of the Addons in the Chinese Edition are modeled after well-known mods in CurseForge (such as Tinker's Construct and Twilight Forest). But it doesn't have any advantages at all. It removes the render dragon and allows players to use the shader. I want to tell you another thing, it's about a plagiarism incident. On December 26, 2015, a Mini World: CREATA that plagiarized Minecraft from China appeared. On May 20, 2016, NetEase obtained the agency rights of Minecraft, and Chinese Minecraft players and Chinese Mini World players began to curse each other. Technoblade left us forever last year because of cancer. These shameless Chinese Mini World players began to insult the dead and posted them on Tiktok in China. Are they free just because they are minors? At present, although NetEase is suing Mini World in court, there is nothing but some compensation. Mini World has never been brought to justice. I hope some of you will support Chinese Minecraft players and take Mini World off the shelves. (I am using a translator to talk to you, and there may be some mistakes. Please understand)
It's like some weird frankenstien version of the Bedrock Edition store and a bunch of different social media platforms. Honestly some of it is actually quite cool in concept. Hopefully someone makes a mod that recreates the dimension and mobs! Though honestly the money grabbing tactics are kinda messed up. Even for our Bedrock store standards. It feels extremely pay to win.
I was literally going to do a time skip when you said you know people skip, crazy stuff man. Also I must say this is fascinating, there's some features I wouldn't want but there's other like the friends section which would be really handy. Definitely reminds me of Roblox in some of the ideas.

litteraly everyone i know from china plays the original version of Minecraft. our local communities often memes at how shit the Chinese version is and heavily insults the company who made it. its much worse than whats said in the video. i was one of the few people who cheesed through the id verification thing despite not having a Chinese id.
When I heard china has exclusive items, mobs, and even a DIMENSION... I knew this game is basically 100% different to the regular Minecraft, just sharing a name and nothing else.
Ibxtoycat claimed that the china mob vote was effectively fake. They wanted to add the panda, were tasked with making a promotion for it, and decided on having a vote which they were certain the panda as China's national animal would win, which of course it did. I don't know where he got that from though as I've not been able to find evidence of it.
from a comment on this video, a person who knew chinese they said the mob vote in china is another sub-mob vote, which the winner of the sub-vote go onto the international vote

BRO EXACTLY
the UI is extremely similar too, and the color scheme of the UI included

oh my god i remember that, a friend once showed me it and i was using it every day till i stopped playing mcpe. that just gave me nostalgia

The game might have not been made by a dictating government but its being controlled by it. Try writing Tiananmen Square in the chat
Finally I see someone who speaks more sensibly than the video creator himself.

I hope this incident can make more people aware and make pirated games disappear from the public's view

Boss lore sounds like Warhammer 40k
0:58 gonna download it and rename every icon to "fuck Chinese gonverment".
Technically i live in China (hong Kong) but i can still play normal java Minecraft due to one country 2 system. Glad that exists, that why you are seeing me here.
If you don't understand,i am saying that the place that i am living isn't directly controlled by mainland China which means i can play any Normal version games.
I never knew there is a china version of Minecraft xDd
litteraly everyone i know from china plays the original version of Minecraft. our local communities often memes at how shit the Chinese version is and heavily insults the company who made it. its much worse than whats said in the video. i was one of the few people who cheesed through the id verification thing despite not having a Chinese id.
dont worry about the thumbnail, that guy's name is "друг" and he's a cool dude
When I heard china has exclusive items, mobs, and even a DIMENSION... I knew this game is basically 100% different to the regular Minecraft, just sharing a name and nothing else.
It doesn't have those things though, according to the video
Ibxtoycat claimed that the china mob vote was effectively fake. They wanted to add the panda, were tasked with making a promotion for it, and decided on having a vote which they were certain the panda as China's national animal would win, which of course it did. I don't know where he got that from though as I've not been able to find evidence of it.
from a comment on this video, a person who knew chinese
they said the mob vote in china is another sub-mob vote, which the winner of the sub-vote go onto the international vote
@@31oannamphong66 Huh that's even weirder then considering we never got a vote on the Panda
I remember playing this version. The servers were not bad and it was very fun.
yeah, but no English in these servers
Holy fuck that part where you said "Hold up, all you video skippers" I was literally just about to click on another video. Fair play, I'll watch the rest
