In 1973 I met Eddie who was running Theodore Payne Nursery...he got me growing native plants...I was so grateful to have met him..He made me learn Latin names...He was fabulous!! Thank you..I'm so glad that this nursery is still GOING STRONG!!!
Great info. & much needed. So many homeowners have little knowledge about our California natives & too often plant problematic plants i.e. liquid amber ,,, such a nuisance tree & so many others which are invasive that do not help to sustain our environment.
Thank you SO MUCH Chaviva Friedman for the compliment. Nearly all my garden club talks are professionally recorded and saved on the IV Organic channel for viewers around the world to enjoy! Thank you again! Charles :-)
Mario R Anytime of year is fine, depending on what you want to see. In late winter through early summer, you will see the gorgeous blooms and the lush greenery. But, I love to go in the heat of summer into fall because you can really see what’s thriving and feeding wildlife in the harshest times. You know what to plant to keep your garden going in the heat. You’ll also see the gorgeous nevin’s barberry on the hillside above the buildings and parking lot covered in yellow and red berries!
If they want native plants in the gardens then they need to offer more of them at nurseries and retail stores. Limited them to only native plant sales a few times a year is not helping . I’ve requested these natives at my local nursery . More availability is necessary .

Thank you! I am just beginning this journey into growing California Native plants. Inspiring.
Wonderful information! Love the idea of as many gardeners as possible making pollinator islands!
