Id rather look at this than a plain lawn any day!! What an amazing transformation. Just a different style but totally beautiful. I'm sure pollinators are loving it. Kudos to this couple we need more people like them using native plants like this. Thanks for sharing Janey 😊🌻

Absolutely! This is what I’m working toward in my parents garden. I’ve always loved the “natural” kind of look and they’re getting too old to care for their space now. But they have wild flowers galore. Just a few mulched areas that have a more formal feel

I’m obsessed!!! We are in Southern California and recently transformed our yard with a native garden. We LOVEEEE the color all year round and less maintenance. I still plant a cut garden in garden beds and have my non-native container pots. Best of both worlds 🎉❤🎉 Thank you for sharing Janey. I’m so impressed.

Janey, I am so stoked that you're featuring native, waterwise plants, gardens, and thoughtful gardeners. So many of us live in suburban lawn deserts that are devoid of biodiversity and frankly, personality. It's nice to see that there are alternatives to show there's another way! Thank you!

I think this is awesome! Education is key and people need to realize that we have to stop fighting against nature. Americans have been trained to see beauty in a way that is not natural. We need people to keep showcasing natural habitat so that it becomes more common place. Keep up the great work!!

Thank you Janey for this video. I wish more garden influencers shown something outside the box, something more than just large nursery/growers products. I think your channel really stands out because of that. I enjoyed seeing West Coast native plants because I am in the East and we have completely different natives here. I always wanted to see what is growing West. 🙂

Janey - this is one of the best, if not the best, CA native garden videos I’ve ever seen. I’ve been developing a native garden for a few years and I’m always looking at CNPS videos and whatever else I can find on RUclips and there isn’t much, especially this quality. I so appreciate you putting the common and scientific name of each plant referenced on screen. And it’s great to hear real experts talking about them. This is a very natural looking native garden (most are). I’m hoping to design mine as a little bit more manicured and “landscaped.” I think it can be done.
The soil and sun factor makes a huge difference. I have several of the same plants in the ground at my house for two + years and they are just one or two feet tall. 😂
Also, thanks to your video yesterday, I learned about this and was able to visit 4 of the gardens on the East end of the tour and they were absolutely fabulous. You are a pro!!

With Sandy being from S Florida, I'm surprised they planted bamboo. Is it not invasive there? You were talking about parasitic plants and not realizing there was a such thing, mistletoe is a parasitic plant! Does it grow in California? I loved their yard! I wonder how allergy season goes in their neighborhood and if the garden has any impact on the neighbors.

I think using natives is a great idea however that front yard is a bit too over grown for a neighborhood setting. I planted a native garden in my backyard after taking a college course that covered Ca. natives. I eventually decided that I wanted to see more color and after Borage took over my yard. I came to realize like so many that the cottage look is my thing. Looking forward to the Sunday landscapes.

But the reality is, you can make a formal clean garden with natives as well. The options are only limited to your imagination.

Please know that there isn't a good way to capture the beauty of these plants. From experience, I tried to capture some native azaleas which are breath taking, not possible.

Dear Janie and Jason, thanks for allll the information you provide! I just watched this for the first time and it was soooo good I humbly suggest that you rewatch it …. just in time for fall planting 🌼🌼 maybe along the roadside? This garden certainly inspired me for this fall.

2023 I made my first garden using both flowers and vegetables….
It was also the very first time I had ever seen and was visited by a Hawk Moth! I had to ask people what in the world they were 😂 I was lucky to see them again throughout the season. ( in my zone 6a6b 30 mins south of Columbus they were attracted to my ‘Proven Winners superbena sparkling amethyst’ 💜
