im tryna figure out ...was that smile on purpose or was he tryn not to laugh? hes so friggin good i cant even tell. rdj fukin killed it in this movie. amazing actor
One of two things happen here. He either broke character but it was so hilarious, they kept it in instead of reshooting. Or it was Kirk Lazarus' over-the-top attempt to illustrate the rapid mood swings of a man's fractured psyche in wartime. Either way, I constantly rewind this one line everytime I watch the movie.
jaymoralucifer really? if its just a religion, why would all these agnostic jewish actors often identify themselves as culturally jewish? including rdj, jon bernthal, and so on. being jewish isnt limited to your faith, one can be a non-practising jew but hes always going to be a jew, especially if he has a jewish mother.
+Anthony Rodriguez "What you getting at with the book script - script that shit up man!" Afterwards, him going from a smile and then murderous stare is hilarious!
Imagine if RDJ had won that Oscar and delivered his acceptance speech in-character. Speaking all emotionally, on how it was about time that an African American actor was awarded in this category 😂
I'm Southeast Asian, not Black. But personally, I think that "about time that an African American actor got awarded" line would actually be kinda offensive, unless of course he got permission from The Black Crusaders.
The part at the end when it culminates in him revealing his true Australian voice, which is also fake, delivering the line "I think I might be nobody" gets me every time!
As a black dude Lincoln Osiris had me so into this movie it was insane. I was like damn! He's more black than some people I know. lol Robert Downey Jr. Is a Legend
"To be honest, he played a black dude better than anybody I’ve seen!” Brandon Jackson raved about Downey’s performance in the Ben Stiller-directed film.
I was pretty young when this movie came out, and only knew RDJ from Iron Man, so I didn't really have a grasp on what he looked like. I couldn't see him at all in Osiris until the scene where he started taking his prosthetics off. I can see him through the makeup now, but it's still practically a different person to me, which is impressive!
As funny as the character is, you guys are missing the point. RDJ's character(Kirk Lazarus) is meant to be a parody of the self-absorbed method-actor who takes his role so seriously he can't see just how ridiculous he is being. That's part of why Lincoln Osiris is such a clever character. He's protected by a double-layer of irony, but outside the context of the film, he just becomes a caricature of African Americans. He's funny in-and-of-himself, but the character cannot exist outside this film and maintain the same comedic tone. It simply wouldn't work.
"like a pineapple...."says Fourleaf Tayback as he treks alone thru a frightening jungle! Suck on that unit Kirk!! I truly think Robert Downey,Jr is at his absolute best in this. I would donate organs to get a second part to this. Any one else friggin loooove Jack Black's genius as he is trying to 'catch' the damn bat??! He is rambling saying all kinds of funny shit! He says," what's it even doing out in the daylight??..."in a super whiny and pitiful sounding voice!! I gotta stop, I could go on and on...this is probably my favorite comedy next to the Jerk, Coming to America and Trading Places, to name a couple faves.... That is saying something to be in that beloved era of hilarity, to myself anyway!!
The script is a work of art. There is so much witty and smart dialogue. Ben Stiller did an amazing job of directing too. Every 5 minutes, there are legendary lines!
“For 400 years that word has kept us down” "Took a whole lotta tryin' Just to get up that hill. Now we're up in the big leagues Gettin' our turn at bat. As long as we live, it's you and me baby"
shgfe3ay It took a whole lot of trying just get up that hill Now we are in the big leagues Kids notch turn to bat As long as we live it's you and me baby
i noticed your comment and a couple others where you think its a character break. This is not a character break but an actual behavior hes trying to portray from the black character. When black people get upset or angry, sometimes they smile like "i wish a mother fucker would". That is what he was trying to portray, not a character break.
RDJ gave one of THE BEST performances of any person ever in this roll!!! Literally the entire time, I was laughing my butt off, but also, I appreciated his thoughtful portrayal. That's something that the idiots who attack him for this role miss. He wasn't just "pretending to be a Black man." He truly captured the heart and soul of us. Real Talk: *Every word and gesture RDJ did in this role, he reminded me of my Uncle Louis!* 🤣😆😂🤗🤗
Between Sgt. Lincoln Osiris, Les Grossman, the concept of Simple Jack, Nick Nolte, the rest of the cast, and the film's concept itself, this movie has got to be in the top five feature-length comedies of all time.
Let’s all take a moment to appreciate that the Vietnamese Drug Lord Child is an unknown actor who successfully shouts down Ben Stiller, gets shot at by RDJ, tackled by Jack Black, and fires a bazooka at a chopper that’s deflected by Matthew McCaunaghey. Wait, your uncle is *the* Robert?
Man this dude is hilarious as a black actor
I actually thought he was black, I never realized that it's RDJ until I heard about that in an interview
"Man everyone's gay once in a while it's Hollywood" 😂😂👏🏼

How the FUCK did Ben Stiller turn out to be such a genius writer?
Ben stiller actually is smart as fuck when it comes to anything to do with movies. Some people don't like him but I think dude is brilliant in some areas. People inside Hollywood know how smart he is.
“ you went full retard,, never go full retard”.. this movie had me dying the whole time 😂😂😂
The face he makes after he said "what you getting at with the book man, spit that shit out" XD
Yea he broke character for a hot second and wanted to crack up
That was the best! So funny!
im tryna figure out ...was that smile on purpose or was he tryn not to laugh? hes so friggin good i cant even tell. rdj fukin killed it in this movie. amazing actor
Princess Rapunzel™ exactly my thoughts hhhhhhh
'Alpa and I is already wearing earth mamas natural night camo
'Cool It Benson'
😂love that part
What’s cool it benson mean?
@Justin Time oh, i thought it was referring to Major Payne when Damon Wayne played Major Benson Payne...i was way off 😓😔
"pump your brakes kid, that man's a national treasure"
"That shit ain't funny"
You bout to cross some fuckin lines
"For 400 years that word has kept us down!" lmao I love that line!
RDJ is the probably the first white dude to pull of acting black. Thats some great acting.
Biggie T.V. hes not white, hes jewish and he definitely got a pass for playing blackface just bc hes jewish. but man, he nailed this role right.
@@wyg2935 jewish is just a religion
Common_C3nts no its not just a religion
Wahyu Yogiarjanggi Gumbira it is just a religion
jaymoralucifer really? if its just a religion, why would all these agnostic jewish actors often identify themselves as culturally jewish? including rdj, jon bernthal, and so on. being jewish isnt limited to your faith, one can be a non-practising jew but hes always going to be a jew, especially if he has a jewish mother.
"I don't read the script the script reads me"😂😂
+Anthony Rodriguez "What you getting at with the book script - script that shit up man!"
Afterwards, him going from a smile and then murderous stare is hilarious!
+Skivsamlaren that smile had me rolling lmaoo

That line is my fave but a close second is when he says.."Man I stay in character all the way to doing the DVD Commentary!"
Zlatans not in this film ?
"God dammit! We lost, we super fucking lost man....tell 'em McClusky, tell what time it is!"
lol
I assume I'm not the only one read it with his voice.
GIMME DAT GOTDAM MAP!!!
You're more shredded than a Julian salad! lmfao
my favorite line of all time lol
When he started quoting The Jeffersons, I nearly died lmao. What a great movie lol
Man just because it’s a theme song doesn’t make it not true. 😂😂😂
I think the funniest part is when he gets serious when he heard crocodile Dundee. That man is a natural treasure.

That was what i put before autocorrect.
+Brandan Dengler how could u remember from over a month ago? Yo a liar
You don't fuckin know me and i don't have to explain myself to you.
+Michael 2715 you know his name not his story
Imagine if RDJ had won that Oscar and delivered his acceptance speech in-character. Speaking all emotionally, on how it was about time that an African American actor was awarded in this category 😂
That would've been hilarious
That would be funny asf though id b laughing my ass off
He did the dvd commentary in character (which is also very funny), and sort of promised he would never do it again, and hasn't. It was great.
I'm Southeast Asian, not Black. But personally, I think that "about time that an African American actor got awarded" line would actually be kinda offensive, unless of course he got permission from The Black Crusaders.
@@MondeSerenaWilliams no one gives a shit lol
"Just cause it's a theme song don't mean it's not true." -Sgt. Lincoln Osiris
The part at the end when it culminates in him revealing his true Australian voice, which is also fake, delivering the line "I think I might be nobody" gets me every time!
As a black dude Lincoln Osiris had me so into this movie it was insane. I was like damn! He's more black than some people I know. lol
Robert Downey Jr. Is a Legend
@Cool Breeze It is the older ones though
"To be honest, he played a black dude better than anybody I’ve seen!” Brandon Jackson raved about Downey’s performance in the Ben Stiller-directed film.
Same
I was pretty young when this movie came out, and only knew RDJ from Iron Man, so I didn't really have a grasp on what he looked like. I couldn't see him at all in Osiris until the scene where he started taking his prosthetics off. I can see him through the makeup now, but it's still practically a different person to me, which is impressive!
DEF a Legend for dis. N dis them 70s niggas
"Tell him McClusky! Tell him what time it is!"
"What it is, Sikorski. Tell us where we really at?"
gutz1981 Can't believe you caught that. xD

they all call him 15 different names throughout the movie...until the end.

I want a whole movie about Lincoln Osiris!
TheBrandon425 Urban Hail
i want a whole tv show of kirk lazarus
TheBrandon425 lets do a campaign
As funny as the character is, you guys are missing the point. RDJ's character(Kirk Lazarus) is meant to be a parody of the self-absorbed method-actor who takes his role so seriously he can't see just how ridiculous he is being. That's part of why Lincoln Osiris is such a clever character. He's protected by a double-layer of irony, but outside the context of the film, he just becomes a caricature of African Americans. He's funny in-and-of-himself, but the character cannot exist outside this film and maintain the same comedic tone. It simply wouldn't work.

How he calls him the wrong name every time
@@dontyouworryaboutit_ then tells him he looks like Abe Lincoln😂😂😂
That "FUCK YOU" at 1:16 is genuinely the best ever captured on film. Robert De Niro at his most intense couldn't have done better.
Yes!!! I fucking die every 10 seconds watching this scene 😂😂😂
I think RDJ's "Fuck You !" in Due Date ( when he gets picked up at the hospital by Jamie Foxx ) might beat this one 😁

Probably the greatest role ever acted out in a comedy.
Long live Robert Downey Jr.
"How do we top Sheriff Bart?"
He's the only guy who can get away with this and am still laughing my ass off booooya
The script is a work of art. There is so much witty and smart dialogue. Ben Stiller did an amazing job of directing too. Every 5 minutes, there are legendary lines!
"For 400 years..." As soon as he says that and he the way he says it all teared up out of nowhere is fucking perfect lmfao!

The character break @4:31, the 4th wall breaks, and the commitment to the multiple layers of characters RDJ played, this movies a gem.
Kirk malfunctioned for a few secs haha
Honestly that just adds to the movie more than anything... it shows how even he cracked himself up.
i noticed your comment and a couple others where you think its a character break. This is not a character break but an actual behavior hes trying to portray from the black character. When black people get upset or angry, sometimes they smile like "i wish a mother fucker would". That is what he was trying to portray, not a character break.
Pretty sure it’s just acting
His character broke character.
2:43 Osiris' reaction and the line "Pump yer brakes kid, that man's a national treasure" gets me every single time. Perfect.

I dont care what anyone says this is by far one of the best rolls of all time. This shit till this day has be rolling like it was the first time.
All in the same movie. Best Supporting Role Ever.
