I had the pleasure of playing this piece live with her in Heidelberg, Germany in the summer of '96. She absolutely blew me away. What was amazing--more so in that performance than in this recording--was her ability to make the piece sound like she was improvising it, like she was making it up as she went along in acts of pure genius. I will never forget that experience playing with her (and I must confess I thought she was cute, too!).

This is probably one of my favorite versions of this Concerto. Her slow movement is phenomenal, gave me goosebumps...

I got to play with her playing this piece in Heidelberg, Germany in 1996. What was amazing (even more so in that performance than in this recording) was that she gave the impression she was improvising the piece on the spot, like she was just ingeniusly creating it as she went along. And her tone :-)...!

What a wonderful recording. Both orchestra and clarinet are moving in such unity. Ms Kam's tone and expression along with her interpretation are masterful. And what a technique. Absolutely perfect in every way. Beautiful ... Exciting and completely enjoyable from beginning to end. Classical Jazz ... Tremendous !!!

I'm here in a shitty town in the north of France, walking , waiting for my train after work , I suffer from debilitating, chronic eye illness for months, my eyes hurt and burn, but this music is everything for me right now. Fucking beautiful.

Watch Bernstein's discussion of this concerto (on RUclips) to get some deeper understanding. Then listen to Kam's recording - quality tone and overall sound, and she is very good.
