Clarinet Concerto No. 2 (2012)

Dir : Rossen Milanov
With the authorization of the Spanish composer Oscar Navarro.
On collectionCB3 we can also listen to Oscar Navarro's « Clarinet Concerto No. 1 » (2006) and « Downey Overture » (2011).
The composer Oscar Navarro was born in the village of Novelda (Alicante), where he began studying the clarinet at an early age. He received the "Outstanding Award" after completing his preliminary music studies, and was awarded both an honorary mention and a distinction at the end of his bachelor degree in the "Conservatorio Superior Oscar Espla" in Alicante (Spain).
Oscar Navarro continued his studies of composition and conducting at the "Allegro International Music Academy" of Valencia, with his mentor and friend FerrerFerrán. Shortly after he was selected by the prestigious University of Southern California Thornton School of Music (Los Angeles, USA) to study Scoring for Motion Picture and TV. In Los Angeles he studied under the tutelage of renown composers such as Joel McNeely, Pete Anthony, Michael Giacchino and Christopher Young. Navarro had the pleasure of collaborating with Christopher Young through working as an orchestrator, creating suites to his film music.
Oscar Navarro has recorded in some of the most notable studios of Los Angeles, including Capitol Records, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. After finishing his studies, he was awarded with the "Harry Warren Endowed Scholarship for Scoring for Motion Pictures and TV" prize, as the most advanced graduating student on his course.
Today Oscar Navarro holds many national and international composition awards and his music is performed in major performance venues across the world by some of the leading orchestral and wind ensembles. Some of Navarro's most professional highlights include participating as music director in a benefit concert organised by the former Consul of Spain in Los Angeles, Mr. Inocencio Arias, in the prestigious Bovard Auditorium of Los Angeles in 2009, the tour of his « Concerto for clarinet and orchestra » performed by the Spanish Youth Symphony of Spain and the world premiere of his quartet "creation" in the Lincoln Center of New York by international clarinet soloist José-FranchBallester.
During his profesional career Oscar Navarro has been commissioned by the Army and Navy Orchestra of Winds of Brussels, Network of schools of Medellin (Colombia), International Music Competition of Altea (Alicante), Valencian Institute of Music (Spain), Youth Orchestra of GeneralitatValenciana (Spain), The City of Downey (California, USA), University of Southern California "Trojan Marching Band", and "José-FranchBallester& Friends" (New York, USA) among others. As a rising conductor, Navarro has led many ensembles including the Symphonic Wind Ensemble of Alicante, Wind Ensemble and Choir of the "Network of schools of Medellin", Requena Philharmonic (Valencia, Spain), Radio Orchestra of Kiev, Symphonic Orchestra of Macedonia and next year the Santa Cecilia Symphony Orchestra (Excelentia Fundation).
Within his busy schedule, Oscar Navarro is often asked to give master classes for both film and classical music. Future engagements for the 2013-2014 season will include taking part in the Tanglewood Music Festival as guest composer (his « Downey Overture » will be performed), and The Cleveland Orchestra will perform his « Concerto for clarinet No. 2 », with Franklin Cohen as soloist under the baton of Robert Proco. Next year Oscar has been nominated for the "Hollywood Music In Media Awards", in the film music section, having already been awarded distinction within the classical music category in 2012.

This is beautiful. I wish it were in a better quality than 240, but even with that hindrance, this concerto is amazingly beautiful.
The writing is just awesome! It reminds me of movie music definitely, but it just has a lushness of orchestration that's awesome!
Voici une merveilleuse musique, qui ne peut renier ses origines espagnoles ! Un grand merci pour ce beau moment .
i love this so much. Will be buying IMMEDIATELY
A beautiful and dramatic composition. I really enjoyed it. Thks for sharing it.
What a treat to listen to this concert piece. Thanks to all concerned.
Exquisite - a clarinet concert certainly but the orchestration is so surprisingly enriched, here and there even reaching top higher points, that if you call it symphonic poem or smiliar denomination it would not be displaced. And yes, it could be a soundtrack for an odyssey movie or the kind. I earned my day, today....thanks
Excellent and fantastic concertó love it.brilliant ending.
Very nice to find a modern composer I like. This as comments below say rather this is film-like music because of the harps and other percussion instruments IMO over a concerto piece really. I find it most enjoyable. Thank you for uploading this.
Me encanta ese concierto y José Franch Ballester es un virtuoso del clarinete.
The orchestra is OSPA (Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias) of Asturies, Spain.
Very much film-like music, rather than traditional concerto piece.
Oscar has a background in film music. I went to school with him. He's the real deal.

Does a proper recording of this exist anywhere?
This recording is a live performance. Alas, there's no CD recording of this concerto for now, to my knowledge.
Corentin Boissier (collectionCB, collectionCB2, collectionCB3 and collectionCB4)
collectionCB4 OK - well, this is a very good performance. Does this recording exist in higher quality? I really like it but 240p isn't so good!
