- In this makeover, I'm restoring a pair of American of Martinsville Side tables back to their gorgeous selves. The construction is walnut veneer with Elm Legs. They are heavier than they look, and a solid build.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for bringing these back to their original beauty.
Those are so nice! I can't imagine painting over that wood! It's beautiful! Great job!
Thank you Alicia! I was not expecting them to be so nice under the spray paint.
FINALLY - someone who doesn't slap chalk paint on a piece and a stencil of the Eiffel Tower.
Beautiful! Maybe, that's the future in furniture flipping... stripping paint from furniture and restoring its original beauty! Thanks so much for sharing
Its quite possible. Thanks for watcning Sophia!
They look soooo much better unpainted ,, very nice job 👏
Glad you like them!
So glad you rescued and restored these tables, they’re lovely.
Thank you Edna!
So much better. These had a lovely wood grain that was covered. Thank you for bringing them back to their former glory and making them beautiful again. 😍
Thank you 😊
Beautiful pieces, great restoration. When I see work like this I often wish to meet whomever painted these treasures and ask them what they were thinking. Hope the brought a nice price when you flipped them.
Thank you very much!
Wow! Those were actually in really good condition under that spray paint!
I was very shocked at how nice they were. I was expecting water stains and woodfiller. None of that.
Yo Yo Yo Yo Emily!!! Fantastically done Homie!!! It was so nice to see that beautiful wood under that paint & in great condition also. I'd love to see someone get their hands on an old-school telephone bench & redo one. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!
I saw a telephone bench the other day actually. I am full up on projects but if I find a free one I will for sure snag it!
Nice job. That’s one of my favorite mcm designs.
I was thinking... is the drawer for a phone book? 😀 This style is so nice! Thank you Steve! 😊
@@ReconstructingEmily 🤣👍
@@ReconstructingEmily My mom used them for dirty ashtrays and junk until guests left, then she came back and cleaned them out! But seriously, most people only had one phone. I think they’re just a different design than putting the drawer underneath the table, and it raised up the lamp so it wasn’t too low!
@@catofthecastle1681 I love this historical use case. I mentally pictured it as you were describing it and it makes sense!
Nicely done! Storms! 😳. We got a severe storm in the middle of the night some years ago with hail so huge that it broke several windows on our house and damaged both of our vehicles. Been freaked out every since.
We had hail a few weeks ago and a tornado, but nothing huge. Hail big enough to break windows would most definitely be something to remember!
Wow! These came out so beautiful! I am not sure how anyone could spray paint something so lovely. Thank you for restoring them Emily! God Bless!
Thanks so much 😊
Oh wow! What a terrific job! Those tables are beautiful. 👍🏻
Thank you!
Great Job!!!! Thanks for "rescuing" them!!
Thank you Gwen 😊
They turned out great. That's an interesting style. That stripper seems magical!
Thank you Gail! I've seen the step up style but this is the first one I've seen with a drawer.
They are beautiful! Isn’t it wonderful when you find furniture painted by people who did no prep? I love when that happens!🌸
Very true. Much easier to work on lol Thank you Deborah!
It's so therapeutic to watch your work!😇
Thank you Akash!
Wow! The tables turned out so nicely. Better than new. Also loved the little rhyme at the end.
I initially read this as wow the tables have turned...and now I feel as though I missed an opportunity! Thank you Cody 😊
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 68 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼 ❤ 🎀
Thank you so much Grammy Bear! Hope you're doing well!
They look so much happier now great work!
Thank you 😊
Really enjoyable video & a beautiful restoration, Emily!
Thank you 😊 ❤️
Breathtaking
Thank you 😊
Much better! Well done, Emily!
Thank you Paul & Carla! 😁
I love it when you restore vintage furniture to good as new! That was a pretty color of blue but matches are few.
Thank you Hana! 😊
These are great!!! I'm glad that you saved them from the bell...(TV show before your time and a funky design period.)
I watched Saved by thr Bell!! 😀
I love love love watching paint melt away. Awesome job!
Thank you Rhiannon 😊
Nice rhyming at the end! Lovely job on the tables as well 😍
Thank you Ninoskae!
Beautifully finished Emily. You are a master craftswoman
You are too kind ❤️
Gorgeous final product! You did a wonderful job restoring them Emily!
Thank you Lisa! 😊
This video just makes me hungry. Sky Blue flavor with marshmallow fluff and caramel at the start, then topped with Howard's hot sauce. Is it too early for a snowball?
I really like how these turned out! That boxy style screams "60s waiting room"...and I like that. Great job!
😆 🤣 😂 Marshmallow fluff takes me back! What if Howard's decides to make an actual hot sauce?? Definitely 60s waiting room. Just need some waiting room chairs!
Very beautiful restoration
Thank you Mrs Jax 😊
Thanks for fixing these! They are so beautiful now!
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching Amber!

Wow! Fantastic. 👍 you've inspired me to do the same.
Just got my hands on an end table from American of Martinsville that had a pretty bad paintjob! Hoping ill restore it as well as you did :)
The wood is sooo beautiful. Great job
Thank you Christine 😊
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful! I can’t wait to try that stripper, now to the internet to see if I can find it! Take care, stay safe.
Check out their instagram page. They are very active there with lots of helpful information. Thank you Kathy!
What a transformation. How could someone paint over that beautiful wood grain!!
Thank you Lori!
Oh, they came out sooo pretty!! I get the feeling that the spray paint was a “quick fix-use what you have” solution, luckily for you and these pretty little tables!!❤️
I agree. Probably changed their home decor and spray painted to keep them for a bit longer. Thank you Nancy!
Absolutely lovely! Thank you for bringing them back to life and letting them breathe ❤
Thank you for watching Colleen!
Gosh, these are gorgeous now. Great job!
Thank you Anita!!
Gorgeous
Thank you!
Nice work!
Thank you!
I really appreciate the love you gave the underside. I wish more refinishes would do that. They are so beautiful!
Thank you Laurie! 😊
Wow, great tables! Well done!
Thank you 😊
Those are telephone tables. In the old days the phone book went in the drawer, the telephone sat on the top of the drawer and when you were talking on the phone for a while you sat on the lower portion of the table.
My grandparents had one, I remember using it as a kid.
Gorgeous transformation! And I'm going to try the stripper you are using!
Thank you Melanie!! 😊
Beautiful.
Thank you Lorre!! 😊
@@ReconstructingEmily you are very welcome Emily.

Thank you Jay!
Absolutely beautiful! I'm so impressed that you touched on all surfaces, the bottom of the tables, the legs, etc. Great job!
Thanks Frankie!
Such a great restoration.
Thank you Sarah!!
I have that exact table! My neighbor tossed it for trash. Fortunately, it was unpainted and in pristine condition. Btw the pull is closer to brushed nickel than silver. (edit)
Thanks for sharing!
Loved them!
Thank you Paula! 😊
Beautiful!!
Thank you Judie! 😊
Those tables look great, you know it
You're also a pretty cool poet.
I'm not, cause I'm bad with verbs
But I really loved the birbs
👏 👏 👏 Very nice! So good I read it twice. But I think it is a myth, to say you are not a wordsmith! 🙂
Very nice! Hope they got a good home!
Thank you! Me too!

I have a beautiful wood dining table that needs some love in Tampa Bay area!
Tempting me with a table I see lol. I do not have space and don't typically do commision work. However, there is a lady in Spring Hill who does commissions. Her IG is revampedbyvettie.
So very beautiful
Thank you Alishia!
nice finish
Thank you Caro!
Well done.
Thanks so much Gina!
Ficou lindo, parabéns.
Obrigada!
Very nice.
Thank you Mary!
Hey, i was wondering if you had a suggestion for removing blushing? I am a purely outdoor set up in gainesville and am struggling with piece. Was able to buff with brown paper and heat gun. But god is it a lot of work. Loved this video!
It is definately not a fun task. Mohawk sells a Blush Retarder you could try. I havent yet, but its on my list. If you're using a sprayer you could mix in a solvent to prevent it, but I am not sure what the magic mixture is. I am sure it varies based on climate.
These tables are so pretty with the wood finish-and so ugly with blue paint!!
Thank you V bee!
This is so well done! Q: How did you know it was spray painted?
The texture on the sides and the overspray on the bottom. It has a different feel than if someone used latex or chalk paint in a sprayer. Hope this helps!
Was it just the design of the tables that the upper drawer lifted up or was there another reason why they lifted the back piece up. Did you see a makers mark anywhere? These tables look to me to be home made.
They are American of Martinsville brand.
I’m in Florida. I don’t pay any mind to alligators, but sand hill cranes give me pause. Super territorial. How do you feel about shellac and humidity? I want to start using it.
Sandhill cranes are definately not to be messed with. They have the tactical advantage of flight that alligators don't have. Not sure about shellac. I usually only use that as an undercoating.
😍😍
Thank you Maria!
Spray paint on furniture is a crime, IMO.
That blue paint was a death sentence! Thank you for rescuing them, great job!! WWW 🦾💖
Thank you BB!
