I have never heard such beautiful sound coming out of a Martin guitar.
I work at a park where people like to bring dogs. People come in these days (we are closed), and I have tell them to leave. Its really hard work. People don't want to be told no. And some actually try to get me fired for telling them "no." Allot of them ask me "when is it going to open up again?" I ask them to try and be patient, and have the discipline of a someone like a Zen Priest, and to hope that to our scientist friends like virologist, and immunologist, and epidemiologist can find a immunization asap. If they are reasonable people, and most are I will give them this.is: 'please learn how to play banjo, mandolin, guitar, violin, string bass, and accordian." Also, art, poetry, write a book, carpentry,, agriculture, etc...... Love the music you play Mr. John.
I would love to see a solo acoustic Scofield live-stream from his house.
just in this moment I feel more drawn to his acoustic playing than his electric playing. it's more harmonic and feels more emotional on an acoustic
i would love this too
heck yeah. the collaboration with Medeski et. al. is pretty cool
Same here!!
Since I saw that performance of "My Ideal" (which might have been done with this Martin shown in the video) I tried to find more videos of mr.Scofield playing acoustic but I just can't find any :( Ok there's another one where he's jamming on the street but it's a short one. That Martin sounds and looks gorgeous!
A legendary guitarist - as an aside his home looks like a nice place to self-isolate.
'This is an Opportunity to learn music and it's a wonderful thing to do with your time '
So true John, WHAT A GREAT TIME TO WOODSHED! while everybody watches Netflix or bad television shows we play gods gift....MUSIC.Thank god I play guitar.
Sitting now with my Yamaha 79 FG 345 bought for $ 160, next to it is a 1990 Suzuki bought for $50... upstairs are a 66 Harmony, great for open G Blues slide... a baby Taylor that I will soon set up for open D... and last but not least a 73 Martin d-18 I still owe 800 bucks on. I don't play that one much right now waiting to pay it off.
Agree. I restored a 60's Harmony archtop, put Gypsy Jazz strings on it and learned Bistro Fada. Exploring a whole new style.
Saw in a recent interview he has a solo album coming out soon on ECM. Can't wait! Would be a good time to put out the movie too!
I'm working on it!
I hope Scofield is having a good time and can resist in all ways including financially. Scofield is one of the most important guitar players we had on earth due to his singular style, his diminished licks are fantastic and a nice person. I couldn't be present on his show last year in Rio Montreux Jazz Festival because I was playing in the same festival at the same time but at another stage. Faith Mr. Scofield, everything is gonna be ok!
@@alessiocazzettamusic he didn't say that at all. Put your reading glasses on.
@@alessiocazzettamusic what you wrote wasn't even sarcasm, it was nonsensical drivel. PS. My mother is dead. Doubtful you lent anything to her.
@@user-ju6zx3rm8d practice diminished licks in Rio De Montreux you must
Mr. Scofield please take care of yourself, you are a treasure. Looking forward for the film. Thank you Mr. Steineck, be well!!
Likewise! Stay safe!
Watching this is a dose of reality. John Scofield may be a professional musician with name recognition among guitar aficionados, but we see that it doesn't make him a millionaire. He lives in a regular house in rural New York and is out of work due to COVID-19.
This documentary about John Scofield needed to be done... thank you so much!
We need to do this with all Jazz Masters who have contributed so much to the world of music.
That means to ask questions in order to help mankind and musicians tap deeper into their better selves. It is so important to not only ask these Masters about music but also ask them about wisdom- to stay inspired.
This video was an incredibly helpful interview. The part about Sco saying we need to take the opportunity during these times of isolation to study more music while in isolation was pure wisdom. It’s an opportunity! How wise to view these lonely times this way and to hear not only knowledge from this master but also his wisdom. I can’t wait to hear more. Gratitude!
"cuz, I'm old"
-John Scofield
that first shot was beautiful
Yes it was
Amazing
this man's playing is basically getting me through this pandemic
John, keep well my brother. Yes we are old. I was at your wonderful performance at the MIM here in Phoenix, AZ last year, and the first and last time I saw you prior to that was back in the mid 70's with Billy Cobham; I believe at the Beacon Theater in NYC. The wood-shedding has definitely helped me refocus on my music and the wife doesn't mind. You have a contagious spirit and hope to see you perform again once this thing is over with.
plz stay healthy and give us good music.. for decades on and on~
take care bro !!!! and thanks for al the good vibes
You say you're old I'm almost 75 and never played music till age 45. Dint learn it right so now there's some time to go back and get the basics. Fingers work fine, but timing always off! Someday, someday...
John, I was sick with the COVID-19 virus a few weeks ago. The fever, chills, and sweats were enough to get me out of work for a week, but the isolation and downtime was great for continuing my guitar education!
Wishing you good health and safety, John. I've been listening for many, many years and always enjoy your playing no matter the format.
Thank you 🩵
Great to see and hear you playing acoustic. Brings me back to beautiful atmosphere of Album "Quiet". I Would love to hear you playing acoustic also on tour. Thanks @Joerg Steinbeck for bringing John's Message over in the warm and intimate way.
Online guitar lessons from the great Mr Scofield on RUclips would be AWESOME!!!
Thank you mr Schofield for you music the very best for you and your wife and the whole family may the musical spirits be with you and all the other musician in the world Namaste God Bles.
The best
Thanks John, lifetime fan joined your career around Electric Outlet and You are under arrest, never left...
thanks for "alfie"? "time marches on" john you may say your old but your "still warm" its a "blue matter" but always keep giving us your guitar McCoy may have past but you keep playing you give me hope for better days thank you my brother
Thank you for this. lm playing everyday and enjoying it and learning and being old.
True man. Times like this make us think of what we value most. Its good to think of your life as valuable enough to protect and alternative ways to find enjoyment. If we look we will find it, but it takes strength to choose sacrifice.
Beyond the guitarwork that deserves the highest of praise, he personally inspired me when we discussed music briefly, subsequent to being introduced by Patrick Murray in Feb 2002 but also how he handled the truly unprecedented level of responsibility he's had for decades as a devoted family man in addition to being an educator, world class musician etc. Undoubtedly an amazing guy!
I've met him, also. Uber-down-to-earth!
Stay healthy !
As he has aged, Sco's melodic playing reminds me more and more of his former employer Miles Davis.
Just a friend with friendliness to enjoy what is ...with a guitar naturally ...!!!
Thanks Mr. Scofield ❤️☮️
2:50 - Damn straight. In this time of isolation and solitude, there is no shame in the artist doing what he or she does best: practice the art. Also, 3:29! Yeah!!!! 🤘
Absolutely.
Thanks for your music very specialy from ITALY
John Scofield my favourite jazz musician...saw him at the Cheltenham jazz festival a few years ago when he first got the Uberjam band touring, passed him in the corridor at the venue & boy do I regret not stopping him to say hello, ( didn’t want to interrupt whatever his flow was, minutes before the gig) anyway I too would love to see him do a solo live stream from home, you don’t need anything other than you & your guitar John
PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE DO IT !! Praying you and Mrs.Scofield stay safe, peace & love from U.K. 🙏
Thanks. Nice message.
We love you John, be safe!!!!
Sending ❤️ to John and Joerg.
It is hard to stay positive with the lack of care of our politicians-from both side that is. Musician’s need to join the fight for justice in the US and the world. They have to raise their voice in social media about the inequality of basic healthcare in America, climate change, pollution, funding of unnecessary wars and all things injustice. But of course, practicing music helps me stay positive. We are blessed indeed. Be well sco💐
so true unfortunately
Thanks for everything you do John !!
Thanks John reasonable speech! So sorry coukd not reach your concert in Iisalmi Finland a +?month ago. Was having a visitor friend and it just did not fit the schedules. Glad to hear your thoughts here about enjoying to LEARN MUSIC at home on these times now! Dont bother about the technology! Go on playing and talking to us via the mobile phone! It carries the soul phenomenon well enough and itis simple and intimate. From home to home. I also a musician and a singer-songwriter plan to start free ukulele lessons from my mancavestudio. and maybe a virtual publishing party for my new single Kato Vilja Tanssii *Hey watch the crop/seeds dance!" . wishing you all the best!
Thank you, Mr. Schofield. You are a guitar inspiration of mine.
You´re not old. You´re seasoned! :)
Cuz I'm old too John. Would love to change your old strings on that old Martin just like I just did to my old Martin and play music with you!
Thanks for the video and message! Thank God I have plenty of new/old strings!
Awesome to see John playing acoustic. 🌻
Stay well, John. Hope to see and hear you again before too much time passes.
Thank you for your message and great to hear you play. We are lucky to have seen you in Mamaroneck (Emelin Theater) just when the pandemic started. Stay safe and healthy.
Oh, man, Alfie... I love that song. Great arrangement,. I took a guitar lesson from him in the early 80's I believe in the Village in NYC. We just ended up trading solos over tunes I don't remember. He told me to just put a trio together and go out and play. I almost forgot to pay him too. lol
Thanks John!!!
Life is still beautiful. Thank you John for your inspiration in this mayhem to all of us. Got our tickets for your show with Dave for Nov. 3 in Budapest. Gotta keep working to fix up the world until then 😊
Thanks John! Wonderful!
We have the Opportunity to learn music. Great John...
Hang in there Sco!
Lookin forward to seeing you guys live....anytime
I love Alfie.
I subscribed for good news. All the best and thank you, mr. scofield.
Thank you John for your thoughts and kindness hope to meet you one day. Mike Di Nunzio Canada
Tuve la oportunidad de escuchar en vivo a John en Cali, Colombia cuando apenas tenía 15 años. Mi primer concierto de Jazz!
Great words John, thank you for the inspiration🙏
MAN, Sco sounds so good on acoustic.
Thanks for sharing a small piece. made my day.Blessings from Sweden!
Thanks, John! and greetings from fellow-jazzers at Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Also are sittin` at home :) and practicin`
Thanks John. My wife let me go out so I'm just playing music. I've got about 5 years of "Guitar Techniques" magazines to work on. Your pictures are in some of them. Stay healthy.
right on bru
our love and thoughts to Susan and You Maestro!
John, you look old, but you're not! Its all in the mind cowboy!
Love ya, John, be well.
Please be safe.
The first time I saw you play was at the Ivanhoe theater on Clark Street in Chicago with George Duke Billy Cobham and forgive me I can't remember the bass player's name Alphonse Mouzon maybe. To top it off Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke we're sitting across the aisle from us. Amazing show.
Hi Mr Scofield ! Salute from Portugal
He's right. this isolation has been golden for me to get a good practice routine
Maestro
Nice one John Scofield .x
Let's hear the whole take of Sco playing Burt Bacharach. What was on the clip was terrific.
sos el mejor desde argentina!! te amo!!!
Hey John; we were used to hear you play electric guitar with amplifier. It is great to hear you now with an acoustic, in a home ordinary room with no acoustic setup just a room like any other room. All natural sound and it is great. You are better then most younger guitarists. We will get out of this pandemic and life will return to a normal or a new kind of normal. we will go to concerts, restaurants, museums etc. Until then hang in there like we are doing. I am as young as you and we are young.
Awesome ... sentiment - and advice
True..Practice practice practice while we are in lockdown
I played the album he did with Pat Metheny the other day track 7 is one of my all time favourite cool bosa nova tunes it's has amazing dynamics and harmonies.
Say The Brother's Name - great song
Love it, thank you Joerg and John. Can't wait to see the film!
Yeah man! Good question. “What’s it all about?”
respect!!!!
Great video and great playing! Thanks
Thanks John :)
In April Bill Evans ? Yes Maestro ¡
Maestro! Despite all this nonsense about self-isolation, the music we play (jazz) will not get infected and will not die, because you and people like you have made this music immortal for all future times! Thanks!
Nonsense? Have you visited an ICU in the last month? Seemingly not...
Thank you nice time please take care 🎸
Danke Jörg ... KLASSE !!
This was excellent - thank you for sharing!
❤️
Stay safe🙏
I wanted to translate this video into French but it seems that this is not possible due to a badly set community sharing parameter.
However, thanks for this moment and advices John !
a "badly set community sharing parameter"? what do you mean? you could just send me the subs and I'd put them in...
YEAH!!! Very Cool!!! Does he played all Alfie??? Please release the complete song!! Please!
It's on his album EnRoute, c 2003/4.
@@55barfly Thank you! Yes, I have the music! I want to know if its gona be featured in the documentary! Thank you for your work!
Great as always. Does Somebody knows about the jam session he is talking about, where to find it?
ruclips.net/video/i63c3Wg5CEs/видео.html
John, how was the opening camera move done? I've never seen anything like it. wow!
Tom O'Connor looks like the drone started with the camera upside down and slowly inverted?
@@markkindermannart4028 Just an amazing technique.
A drone was started at Sco level, then flown up above the house. The take was rotated 180 in post and run backward to make it look like a descending shot. Notice the car driving backward down the left side of the street.
Every hard time needs a good old vintage Martin to get better
I’d find an N95 mask somewhere to help Sco livestream... just say when!
Alfie!!!!
If someone wants to film the biography of John Scofield, they must do it with John Malcovich, he must starring the film. But if someone want to film the biography of Malcovich, they must do it with Scofield, he must starring the film.
Yeah Maestro Scofield, I´m gonna arrive that last part of being positive.
Maestro I did this funny video about how cool is o have your guitar music around, I'll send it to you as soon as possible.
