  • @TroopaDaDon89
    @TroopaDaDon89 11 лет назад +3

    it doesn´t matter if the turbo is working or not...
    The problem is that the steel of the turbofence is hot(annealing) from the exhaust gas and when the start/stop kills the engine they cool down fast...
    in engineering terms it´s called carburization (makes steel hard and brittle) and can destroy the fence at high rotational speed.
    at normal city speed without hard acc it wouldn´t be a problem because the combustion temp is not high enough for annealing the steel...
    sorry for gram,I´m from GER

  • @guitigefilmpjes
    @guitigefilmpjes  12 лет назад

    Are you sure? At the rev ranges the start / stop-system works, the turbo usually is not working.

  • @user-ph8ti6pf3x
    @user-ph8ti6pf3x 11 лет назад

    But if you long time drive a car, for example on highway, at the rev ranges turbo usually is working, and then, if necessary, suddenly stop cars and in this moment the start / stop-system the engine stop....this is not good for the turbo.
    What do you think?

    on a 5000km trip (about 3000miles) it registered 8,2L/100Km (~35mpg).
    the air conditioning working all the time, 5 passengers (including driver of course) and a full trunk.

    Difference between 100km/h and 120 is kinda huge. 1.5 litres for this extra 20 km/h. also for 130 kmh it goes up from 6.5 to 7.5 which still seems alot difference for so low RPM change, i got gasoline my self and i barely hit 7/100 at driving 120-130 so idk about diesel, does not seem that efficient

      Don't forget the xDrive also adds to the fuel consumption, after driving this car for 20.000 kilometers I consumed 8,16l / 100km (have to admit that I drove it not very economical, especially fast on the Autobahn). But pushing it below 7,5l / 100km when driving in normal conditions also proved to be hard.

    Yes, thats true, only if the engine is not running until it cools down and that takes quite a while, because the turbo is very hot the lubrication slowly evaporates. The start stop sistem only stops the engine for a moment.

    If you take a 520d instead and drive moderately (then it can do 1200km on one tank) then 3 tanks would be enough.
    But a 520d lacks 2 cylinders and the xDrive-system, so the 530xd will probably use more (I found it to be quite uneconomical, an A6 3.0 TDI 245hp uses about 1 liter less).

    Yeah maybe new they take that much but its hard to believe. Yes they claim about ~6/100, maybe its possible driving at 70khm calmly... But now my F11 190kw 530xD Stage 1, average is at 9.2l/100km minimum! if driven calmly... If I fit to 10l I am still happy with the power potential it has I have ~220kw with ~650nM and its amazing, fully enough for me.. But when you think about it... this N57 block, later they put 2 turbos on 535d all the way up to 3 turbos on 550d. What an amazing German engineering! BMW and only BMW for life, its a disease :)

    So for all countries, except Germany, the Diesel doesn't make sense. Because up to 130km/h , which is the maximum except Poland and Bulgaria with their 140 limit, the gasoline or petrol engine only consumes about a liter more. Its the transmission bruh!

    • @guitigefilmpjes
      @guitigefilmpjes  3 года назад

      That is not completely true, due to the fact that diesel is cheaper then petrol (and seemingly 1 liter more fuel efficient), when driving a high yearly mileage, it makes financial sense to choose the diesel.
      Not mentioning when you are pulling a trailer on a regular basis.

    • @alexanderivkin7086
      @alexanderivkin7086 3 года назад +1

      @@guitigefilmpjes But Diesel is not cheaper everywhere. So it really depends on the country you live in. Greetings from Germany, watched a lot of your videos yesterday, just found your channel, very good content 👍

    • @guitigefilmpjes
      @guitigefilmpjes  3 года назад

      That is true indeed, from my perspective I was merely focussing on the situation in Germany and the Netherlands --> both countries where an increasing mileage makes it cheaper to drive a diesel.
      But in several (?) other European countries the price difference for diesel / petrol is small (in Switzerland, isn't petrol cheaper as diesel?) making it a different business case.
      Thank you for watching my videos, comments like yours make it worthwhile to invest my effort into this channel!
