I had one for almost 5yrs now (2012)... Can say, it'sby far the best car I've ever driven. Not the fastest (have a GT4 too), not the most agile, but the way it combines comfort, size, power, elegance while still being discrete: unbeatable! I am changing it for a 740e, which is much cheaper for taxes, but I will sure miss my M550d :(

The crankshaft can spread out the force from each 3 pairs of pistons with every 120 Degree. 3*120=360 degrees in a circle. In Physics one one direction has a force which will cancels out the combine force from the other two. And because of inline-6 only have one camshaft so structurally it doesn't need any complicated modification to enlarge the size of displacement.

This is awesome that you get to actually feel what the car is like to drive. Too many reviewers fill their videos up with useless talking garbage. Not all*** just some.
The fuel consumption is quite impressive. When he was doing the 0-100 and 0-200 run the average consumption was just around 10L/100KM. I mean my 2010 Volvo V70 2.5FT does like 20L/100KM when I try a 0-100 run:P

Yeah, I guess the consumption is a very interesting part of this car. Let's make it clear. It definately consumes more than a "regular" 530d or 535d. I'm currently driving a 740d (313hp) and that is more fuel efficient than the M550d. On the other hand, the 550d has a very unique sport character with a lot of power at high rpm, very untypical for a diesel. I would say you consume 8.5 Liter under normal Autobahn conditions, probably not even more in the city....

Pat Murderous Für solche Tätigkeiten nicht zugelassen? Schau dir mal die Kurvenfahrt auf der Landstraße an... sehr weich und alles andere als rabiat. Was glaubst du, wie andere Sixt-Kunden wohl fahren, die dieses Fahrzeug ausleihen? Die leihen sich das ganz sicher nicht aus, um damit 60 bei 70 und 120 auf der Autobahn zu fahren. Solche Kunden wie hier im Video nimmt Sixt mit Kusshand, zumal es viel wirksamere Werbung ist, als wenn das Auto mal eben durch eine Stadt oder von A nach B fährt.
Modern diesels are fantastic performers but for me they will never beat a petrol engine for sound and rev range.This doesn't come close to the V10 in my M6, though the fuel economy of the diesel is a major advantage in it's favour, but did I see 13 miles to gallon on the idrive ! I will stick to my petrol powered M6 for a while yet !
I assume BMW M550d Xdrive can generate 376hp on 4400 RPM. Anyhow, you were driving on comfort mode therefore you have reached 0-100 in 5.7 sec., in Sport+ mode it can be less depends on tires, wind speed and other factors up to 4.5 Sec. Of-course I'm writing my statement based on experience driving a same car but 2015 model ( Sport winter tier mounted). Maybe there is small difference in technical issues. 256 Km/h is the maximum in my experience.

And its also a way to always have full control over your steering, mainly while cornering and accelerating which causes oversteering. Look up for onboard videos of 70's, 80's and 90's F1 drivers and you'll understand

I don't like the marketing trick with this car. I know, that in many cases the last two numbers are not exactly telling the engine size like f. e. in the 5 series with a 2L engine wich is called 528i but at least it produces 245PS wich is close to a "normal" 2.5l or 2.8l engine. But what has this 3l, 381PS engine to do with a 5l engine? Also the name sugests a much bigger gap between this car and the 535d than it really is.
It's just history. They've kept the names and updated the engines to be more efficient and more powerful as well. I admit that having a 6 cylinder is part of bmw 's legacy,

For the morons out there expecting M5 performance, this car is built to fill in the space between M5 and standard 5-series. Its for people who wants performance as well as every day usability in the same car but without having to pay alot for insurance,gas, taxes and shit!!
The problem is that this car is AWD. I think they should have offered an RWD version of this car... Yes the torque is huge, but the M5 30Jahre with 600hp and as much torque as this doesn't need AWD !

Damn 9,7 liters/100 km at 250 km/h 03:06 ... with my Peugeot 5008 (112 HP) I do 8,0 l / 100 km when I drive at 150 km/h :p ... that is efficiency !!!!

Makes sure you have the transmission fluid and filter pan changed every 50k kilometres

It's just history. They've kept the names and updated the engines to be more efficient and more powerful as well.

Hmm, I would have expected a bit more by 381 HP and tri turbos but 5.7 seconds for 100 kph and 19.9 seconds for 200 kph seems a bit slow...
5,7 seconds is one second too much. The M550d does 0-100 in 4,7 seconds. (atleast according to BMW)

With launch control and enough tries you will get atleast under 5 secs in the end

For the morons out there expecting M5 performance, this car is built to fill in the space between M5 and standard 5-series. Its for people who wants performance as well as every day usability in the same car but without having to pay alot for insurance,gas, taxes and shit!!
The problem is that this car is AWD. I think they should have offered an RWD version of this car... Yes the torque is huge, but the M5 30Jahre with 600hp and as much torque as this doesn't need AWD !
