One word, “richness”. The Oled giving you the contrast of a pure black to color adds so much richness to the picture. Oled is more defined and motion looks buttery.

Definitely! The extra colors in the blue of the water and additional contrast on your desktop picture on the A95L sold me . The extra contrast in the A95L also made the most difference to me in the games- gave them a rich 3D look over the B9 Very nice TV but no OLED killer...yet"

Also, the phenomenon you were experiencing with destiny 2 is due to a raised EOTF.
    4:22 of the video
A95l, default as it maybe, you had it on brightness preferred.
B9, you had it on gradation preferred.
That is 2 completely different EOTF profiles for HDR.
With the HDR games, you were looking at a artificially brightness boosted image on the a95l.

it's more than that. Destiny 2 has HDR in-game settings where you can tweak the Nit capability and black floor and so on. It has 3 images to compare to.
On top of that there is even more things to take into account. Windows 11 itself can be calibrated for HDR. Using Windows HDR calibration app.
Since a B9 has been tested to hit 2850 nits in game mode on a 75". I suspect the A95L doesn't hit more than 1500 nits in same result. Now of course average APL is different than windows measurements. The B9 should still be brighter in larger scene HDR which we see in this Destiny 2 demo. So I think some tweaking needs to be done and either place both in Brightness preferred or gradation preferred.
Now none of this might make some dramatic change. But it is definitely something to look at. Easy to overlook. But it's more than just the settings on the TVs. Especially with HDR that on PC gaming is more times than not totally messed up.

One question, is the blooming visible if you look centered? Since all the LEDs with VA panel show very exaggerated blooming if you look at them at a vertical angle, and the B9 is on the ground, so if I'm not mistaken you see it from above. The viewing angle improvement filter that this TV has only affects horizontal angles.
Good job and thanks for the vids

  • @MyFatherLoves

I definitely understand that the tvs were set to the same settings but IMO, the color on the OLED is not accurate. If your flesh tones are making everyone on screen look like red, then it is also skewing anything else being displayed. The human eye loves saturated color and will always pick the more contrasting image as higher quality. Over YT, the contrast on the OLED and some colors do look better and you can clearly see that the motion handling on the OLED is better in quick moving sequences.
But the OLED skewing so far red combined with the contrast set too high (there is a lot of black crushing) is making me like the B9 better. If both tvs were calibrated, I think the OLED would win for video games because the motion is so much clearer. But the B9 would win for me in tv and movies for sure because OLED (as a whole, not just the A95) jutters very poorly in 24fps content. i.e. every single tv show and movie you can get your hands on.
In a perfect world, I'd have an OLED for games and a barco projection setup with an SI black diamond screen but money.... you know? haha! So, I'll settle with the best miniLED I will be able to get my hands on when the time comes. Unless a company comes out with a fix for OLEDs and 24fps content.

Another great video TKK. But just to bring it up, the B9 is being kneecapped in the sense that the PC's HDR settings are not set up to take advantage of the much higher NITS output that the B9 is capable of. With the way this is filmed it is the same feed from a PC to both sets. One thing that is not shown is the HDR settings for each TV, what was shown was the SDR settings. With these TV's when a game is HDR it switches the TV to different HDR settings. We also don't know what the NIT level for HDR brightness was set on the PC.
Now I fully understand why this had to be done this way to make a comparison. The only way to do this is having 2 PC's but then trying to sync gaming to the same would be a challenge. Perhaps revisiting something like Destiny with the PC set up to take advantage of the B9's higher NIT output. Not sure if that will change anything but just wanted to bring this point out. At the end of the day, another fantastic video TKK....you are the "ONLY" one really providing this type of content so it is very much apprecited.

First thx for the comparisons and filming in HDR is a huge thumbs up from me. I know it might be hard to run both with different settings on the game end but Destiny 2 for example has its own HDR slider. If both are set the same you won't be able to see each others strengths. Setting the B9's in game HDR to match its much higher Nits would tell a different story than what you + your viewers are seeing.
Anyway keep up the good work.

I previously decided on the 75 Bravia 9 and am just waiting on the Sony online store to restock but now I have to reevaluate my decision again. When it came to movies, I was 100% sold on Bravia 9 over oled but after watching the gaming comparison, it’s back to even. I gotta find a sports comparison and that’s probably going to be the deciding factor. I don’t like the pinkish whites on oled though and I’ve always avoided oled because of brightness but it’s come along way since 2020 which was the last time I bought a tv

Looking up his channel there are tons of videos which are likely from other youtubers (without credits), acting as if he filmed the video. We can see his fishy behavior since he has not only remixed the video, but also cropped the video as well, in hopes nobody realizes it. He could've credited you after noticing that people are reporting him. Additionally crediting in the description box means he can remove it at any time and continue using more of your content. Some suggestions for content for tomorrow's video.
Interstellar - Coop waking from his dream starting at 1:48. This is a great scene to show case differences in detail for very low light scenes. The scene at 8:31 is also great for showcasing how well the tvs can display a gradient from yellow to blue. My 2017 OLED absolutely freaks out in this scene and displays horrible blocking in the cloud details.
HP and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 - 50:52 is another excellent low-light scene for flexing a tv's ability for contrast. Just how much of the crowd is lost? Can you see the whole crowd? 52:39, an even better scene for low light detail with a super bright detail on screen. I'd be interested to see if the B9 is blooming hard here or not and how possibly changing the zone dimming setting can help or hurt that with blooming vs peak brightness. (peak brightness takes a hit when local dimming control is set to high).
John Wick 4 - this movie has too many demo worthy scenes but the gun fight starting at 2:08:25 should showcase a good contrast/black levels/peak brightness tv-fight. Scene at 2:23:21 should be another demo-worthy scene for peak brightness, color gamut, and contrast.
Toy Story 4 - basically the entire opening sequence. Excellent scenes for taking screen grabs for peak brightness and contrast details. Any signs of blooming around lightning in the dark parts of this scene?
Top Gun: Maverick - 36:46, Excellent screen grab (and other examples of this in the movie) with the sun behind Maverick's head. Just how much detail is lost or seen as you get closer to the sun there. There's tons of scratch details all over the canopy of each jet in this dog fight training scene. Another good screen grab of this is 37:10.
I'm sure there's loads of content that can be taken from Dune 1/2. but I unfortunately haven't seen them enough to comment on specific scenes for video. The opening monologue is full of demo-worthy video content. Feyd-Rautha's birthday gladiator scene should be another fantastic scene for a tv-fight between average picture level, contrast, peak brightness, and motion. What detail is in scene in the "fireworks". Details of the creepy dudes at 1:15:14. Do one of the tvs dim during this sequence due to the constantly high white levels?
The Batman is another winner for dark scenes.
Kingsman: The Secret Service - Fight scenes starting a 21:14 and at 1:19:05. The scenes will test each tv's motion handling capabilities to the absolute max.

    • @Swecan76
      @Swecan76 29 дней назад +1

The SDR gaming was without peak luminance and at 30 brightness. So you can bet the B9 would be far brighter if cranked. The HDR settings is hard because Windows 11 needs to be calibrated for each TV and same for in game settings. Having a 1500 nit peak TV vs a 2850 nit peak TV and you can't get the same results using the same settings.
Brightness preferred was on the A95L in HDR as well, which lifts EOTF mid tones. Smaller highlights is where the OLED Should be better. But bigger HDR, not as much. Not when the B9 supposed to be brighter. But there is a lot of factors at play.

  • @MyFatherLoves

Knew which tv was which before you started talking. The highlights on the Bravia 9 are showing just how big of a deal peak brightness is and how that affects color luminance and gamut. Also, the A95L looks very magenta in the video... Is it that way IRL?

A little request if possible for any new video you might do. Is it possible to lower the camera so it's more centered between both TVs instead of being higher and more head-on with the A95L.
The reason I am asking is that OLED has zero effect on angles. But a VA panel MiniLED can lose some contrast and also show blooming slightly when filmed from a higher angle.
Love the content and appreciate show it all off. Looking forward to more. Can't get enough lol.

    • @AllAboutTKK

      @@AllAboutTKK I get it.
I made another comment about some potential tips for the Destiny 2 comparison. It's in HDR and Destiny 2 might have in game HDR calibration for nits and black level settings. Also Windows 11 itself can be calibrated for HDR using "Windows HDR calibration" app from MS store. This allows the colors and highlights and black levels be tweaked.
Since A95L and B9 has different brightness levels and so on. This could have an impact. So if you did that type of calibration and set the HDR to be what B9 can do. Then at least you can test the same scene again and see if it made any difference. I think you had A95L in "brightness preferred" as well in Tone mapping. It could have had some impact too.
Go back into Destiny 2 and the HDR calibration and you will see the 3 images for color, shadow detail and highlights and the numbers below for "nit" settings and I think black level.
If you have set up your game to a certain value. That value is NOT going to be what the B9 would have. Now this might not make any dramatic difference if you set it according to the B9 capabilities. But combine it with doing the Windows 11 HDR calibration as well set for B9 and not A95L or another OLED you last used the 3080 PC with.
I think OLED at times just have some advantages, but it kind of looks strange that the B9 isn't doing what, one would think it could do. Maybe it's Sony and the game mode for the B9. But I don't get how the A95L could look brighter in larger HDR highlights. Small ones yes, because per pixel dimming. But not large ones. Feels like the HDR was "limited" on the B9. Which could be because of above mentioned reasons.
Love these comparisons. So this isn't some critique just tips you might not have thought of because you sounded like "what is happening" lol and I agree.

Ghosts of Tshusima is a visually tricky game...I like the extra visual detail on the B9, but I also like the richer contrast and color of the night scenes on the A95L. I would keep the A95L and play with the game's brightness setting to get more facial detail.

You said during the Ghost of Tushima that the B9 looked cloudier, but is that something that could be adjusted for? Same for the color, as you said the A95L has better color, but could the B9 be adjusted to be more colorful? Lastly, you said the 20 minute mark you said the fire doesn't match the B9, but are you saying the B9 is better or brighter or that the A95L is more colorful or better? Cheers, eh!

When you switched to Destiny, the magenta on the OLED is for sure clipping. That's what's making the OLED look brighter in the menu. We can also see while you're playing Destiny that the OLED is rearing an issue that is an OLED problem (not just the A95). You can see it at 27:05. As an OLED transitions from white to black as a gradient, there are severe cut offs at each shade. Even my 2017 OLED does it. However, the superior contrast of the OLED is evident on the top right of the screen with showing the whispy clouds and space background. It looks awesome.
The APL of the B9 is for sure dimmer. I wonder if there's a settings change that could be made to increase that without clipping the highlights?
At 28:20, you see again that equal settings does not mean an equal fight. It's highly evident that because the OLED is capable of such extreme contrast, the contrast cannot be set to the same level as the B9 and vice-versa. The middle and middle left of the OLED is experiencing full clipping (completely losing detail in the highlights) whereas the B9 has that one single super bright spot close to the middle that could be clipping but I'm not 100% sure because my screen that I'm watching on isn't 100% dialed in. Another screen grab can be pulled at 28:57 to show this issue again. Check out the highlights on your gun and the left piece of that broken missile hull. The highlights are full clipping on the gun to the point of losing all detail and there is a sharp gradient on the missile hull where you're losing detail. The B9 shows the detail of the gun and there is a smooth gradient on the missile hull.
Lastly, the white balance also seems like it cannot be set to the same setting for both tvs. If both tvs are set to the same white balance in this test , the OLED definitely is cooler than the B9. It's very apparent when you're playing destiny that the B9 is too warm just based off the snow. It's yellow instead of white.

    • @Swecan76

Don't forget the In game HDR settings calibration. He games on OLEDs whenever he tweaked those in game setting long ago they were set at much lower nit levels.
The same way with tweaking the black floor or "white paper" etc. Then you have windows 11 HDR calibration. It is not set for the B9 either. The A95L is in brightness preferred tone mapping. Which just makes everything brighter. The B9 was not. So considering these things. A lot could change with setting all these to be "correct" for the B9.
This is something easy to overlook. He just didn't think of it and most wouldn't.. But it also means he would have to either set it for A95L or for B9. The B9 would be hampered in HDR if set to A95L. And the A95L would clip way more and blow out with B9 settings. The B9 has been tested to hit 2850 nits in game mode. Of course real life APL translation would be different. But I would imagine it would at least equal the A95L in that regard.
You are also correct with white balance on camera.

It’s obvious what Sony is doing. For their QD-OLED tv’s they are dependent on Samsung. And Sony doesn’t move as many tv’s as LG and Samsung. So in order to keep the cost down (since QD-OLEDs are still pricy to produce and don’t sell well to the mainstream tv buyers) they made a tv with old technology in a new jacket.
The A95L is obviously still the better tv. Better colours etc. The brightness of the Bravia 9 doesn’t make up for the flaws of LCD/LED technology. The Bravia 9 is purely a budgeting move for Sony. Watch and see how great Sony’s QD-OLED tv will be next year

In HDR, the B9 destroys any oled. The details and brightness in HDR for mini led is just better. It just loses at contrast and color pop which can be subjective. Sony wants mini led because it's closest to the gold standard for HDR. QD-Oled does not get anywhere close to the mastering standard for hdr cause of the brightness limiter.
I'm thinking sony is using this year as a experiment to see what their future flagships will be. I'm betting they will continue with mini-led as that technology advances faster than oled.

I find it somewhat odd that the game mode is dimmer on the B9 and I am actually talking in comparison to previous years MiniLED and even older LCD FALD. It really looks dim at times.
I wonder if they will change that with an update. If they do it on purpose or if it is some kind of limitation of processing. But that wouldn't make sense to me. It's "brightness".
If it comes off a little too dim. I want them to fix it to be honest. B9 supposed to be really bright and then get it nerfed in game mode, is just huh..
That said I bet Sony is "dialing" in the TVs a bit over some firmware. It's all new backlight and Pentonic SoC used and so on. So it's not same old same old. When the TVs our out in the wild in consumers hands they will get feedback and reviews and so on. I hope they don't just ignore anything and actually try to make the best possible picture and levels.
I don't get how there is even blooming at that compiling text and spinning character. It looks like 25% as bright as A95L. I trust what you are saying. But it makes no sense at all. It's so dim I can barely even see it on my screen lol. It's concerning to be honest. I feel Sony needs to do something with game mode even if it can look good, it's not correct IMO.

At 27:05 it could be the brightness preferred having an impact since it is on for the A95L. It's not as much about "picture settings" as it is about HDR calibration of the game and windows 11.
Then again you do have brightness preferred on for the A95L. It will have some impact. Frankly it doesn't even look like HDR is almost on with the B9 in comparison here. Please don't make a definitive statement as "destiny looks better on an OLED" if you have the settings in game etc not set up. Can't be for both. That said, yes it might be it looks best on an OLED. But there is no reason why the B9 should fall flat unless there is something causing it. If you know what I mean. Do the HDR calibration in game settings and see if it changes please. It needs investigation.
Don't forget you're in HDR and the TVs do not have the same nit capability so there is an in game setting for HDR and nits/black level etc . The one with the three images side by side. which is it set for? If it set for A95L then the B9 is knee-capped a bit. I bet is something you might not have realized and overlooked.
Because on screen the A95L looks lifted a lot but also showing more brightness. It's confusing to be honest. Try it out to tweak it all for the B9 just to see if it makes it better. The A95L should still be fine, maybe clip the Highlights a little more.
A tip also is to use "windows HDR calibration app" from Windows store to tweak each TV to be "calibrated" for colors and highlights. Something that maybe you did on the PC you are testing on but obviously for one of your OLEDs. Not for the B9. That means HDR is not going to show the same or the "best possible way" on the B9. Sadly you can't tweak it for both and have to choose one TV over the other. If you set all parameters for the B9 at least you could see what it would look like it might not be optimal for the A95L. But I feel the B9 is the one that needs to be shown. The A95L we already know is fantastic.
But that is a suggest I think you could try. Also in game HDR setting in Destiny 2 also matters and again each TV has different capabilities.

The details in bright areas are also lost with OLEDs. And on top of that, OLED TVs and monitors flicker disgustingly, so that after a while my eyes hurt, at least mine. But with the Sony 9 you have to adjust the brightness so that the highlights on the bright areas are not ruined. So you have to find the balance.

0:55 There is one thing that I don't understand you say that A95L 77 inches is at the top and the bravia 9 65 inches at the bottom but the one at the bottom is bigger so or is it the A95L at the bottom or the screen dimensions are wrong?? ?or otherwise the bravia 9 is 77' and not 65'. Please correct this

@@katisnard1851 bottom is 65”, the tv looks larger because it is in front, it is like a 3-D affect. There is no way for them to be completely top and bottom.

If B9 compare to woled such as C4? A95l is oled king,I think it is too hard for B9 to compete, maybe u can do a compare between B9 and C4, many Thx

C4 is so tiny it doesn’t have the optimal picture options so wouldn’t be a realistic showing.

QDOLED is not technically advanced, it's a compromised tech because Japan forbided export of oled material against south Korea since 2015 for theeir anti Japan propaganda, Samsung had no solution but to develope qdoled instead of true oled.

    QD-OLED is not for me.
Color fringing and pink tint are deal-breakers.

Pink tint is only visible on camera, literally 80% reviewers always say that, this is how certain cameras will capture it

@@whitecrowuk575 Not true. I've looked at the Samsung S95D, Sony A95L and A80L side by side in person. The QD-OLEDs definitely lean more red/pink.
And once I see color fringing, I can't "unsee" it.

Visible in person for sure, camera exposes it much more. In person not something you notice until you get next to another panel type but once it’s seen it’s seen.
