Great review, I went for the Tab s4 over IPad so I could have an Amoled screen for reading comics. If you want an Oled screen for your digital comic collection, the Tab s3/s4 are your only options. The new size of the s4 really makes digital comic reading even better.
Pojosamaneo Totally agree. And as someone who had an s3 and went ahead and got an s4; you’re making the right call. Other than the bigger screen ratio, you are not missing anything. Actually, when my buddy and I put them side by side for comic reading comparison, the s3 had richer colors. Totally agree with the review that the price on this tablet should be $550. If my wife didn’t want the s3 so bad for when she travels for work, I would’ve held off too. That said, I do love the new one’s improvements and am glad to have it. Especially for comics.

by the way the "flicker" of the tablet is because the freq. of the mains, screen output and the video input sampling rates are a multiple of each other, like an old light bulb lighting a running metal lathe part, it LOOKS still, even though it's RUNNING!, 'cause the frequency of motion and the lights freq (white balance) are exactly the same, so no motion is recorded or seen.

First off, I LoVVVVed your in depth video! I've never quite seen anyone give a demonstration from "an artist's point of view" (so to speak) & I was blown away! So awesome! Secondly, I bought the Samsung Galaxy s4 when it first came out & was never disappointed! Then when the Samsung Galaxy S6 came out I bought that one as well, but I find I rarely use it only for the fact that I can't stand the case! It's one of those "generic" cases with a wireless blue tooth keyboard. I also can't get that one connected either 🤔 (I know dumb reason not to use a tablet, right??) but Samsung made their case terrible for the S6, and people were complaining left & right so, I figured I wasn't going to pay the ridiculous price I already did for the first one (for the S4 $150!) Anyway, thank you so much for your wonderful video!
7:34 you can find pressure curves on the drawing app, on infinite painter for example there's pressure curves for brush size, flow, opacity, jitter and even tilt, they're located on the brush settings
Nice review, unfortunately for me, i already have the note 8 to draw on. The only upgrade i will get is the larger screen but lesser RAM. just waiting for the 2018 ipad pro to come out and wait for comparison.... I may go with a refurbished iPad pro 2017 model if the 2018 model don't impress. Refurbished 2017 iPad pro and tab s4 same price for me in HK.
I think app called DeX MAX allows users to adjust the app window size in samsung dex mode. That might solve your problem on the window size on your drawing app that is not custom adjusted for dex mode
Surprisingly I've been enjoying drawing on the Samsung S Pen on my Galaxy Tab S3 more than Apple Pencil on the iPad. I use the airbrush tool a lot on Sketchbook and the S Pen gives you a "preview" of the pen size before you touch the "canvas" and the tip makes less of an annoying tapping noise. I guess because it's made out of a softer material. Also I like that the S Pen has just the right amount of friction and not having to charge it is a plus as well. ...However, for note taking in Microsoft One Note and "pencil" illustration, I prefer the Apple.
Thank you for making this great review about the S4. I've been thinking whether to get iPad PRO or Samsung tab and I was totally decided to get the iPad PRO at first but it's wayyy too expensive for an art student like me :( (+ I hate that the Apple pencil is sold separately and is also very expensive!) Now I am sure to buy the tablet instead if you say that it's great enough :)))
The lack of dedicated hardware navigation keys is annoying (and therefore also the loss of the best place for the fingerprint sensor). 16:10 isn't necessarily "worse" for productivity though. As the displays are the same width, it means with the 16:10 display you get room for UI/tools and therefore a more workspace (canvas/document/etc.). As a bonus, videos look better and split screen apps are better.
“Self-portrait of me” If it’s a *self-portrait* who else would it be 😂 Nice vid, i bought an ipad pro but it always bothered me the squared shape.. and also i never really liked using ios devices (i got used to it tho), if i knew about this tablet before i would’ve definitely bought it!! I also considered buying a chromebook, but a thing that its better in the ipad than in this tablet is the use of multiple apps at the same time! The interface it’s definitely better (it would be more enjoyable if it wasn’t squared shape tho) nice review 😊
Thank you very much! I was looking to get one of these, but i wanted it for the drawing. None of the reviews had the drawing side, so this helped plenty. 💕
Yes. Late 2017 iPad (with Apple Pencil) is cheaper, but you can't use a pen-drive with it, add a 400Gb µSD card and use a mouse with it. That's the reason why I bought a Tab S3.
iPad with no SD card, mouse functionality and no PC like experience with Dex or MacOS or Windows. Surface Go is cheaper than S4 now but that only supports 128GB SD card + no LTE option. So S4 does have some advantage when it comes to "options" for business user to student for their daily drive. Hence the price is higher. sure you can also buy cheaper Chrome book or other Android tablets but they don't offer what S4 has. May be if we wait little longer price will come down a bit as there will be more competition from other vendors. I was going to buy S4 but 've got Note9 instead as I already have other tablet.
As an art hobbyist, this could be a great tablet for me. I already have a Note 8 and I draw on it a lot, it's like an all in one deal for me when I bought it. But I still feel restricted because of its small screen... which prevents me from pushing my limits when it comes to digital drawings. I feel bad for my fellow hobbyists who feel pressured to buy the ipad pro and the ipad pencil for an expensive price, just because almost all of their favorite artists use it. Not everyone loves Android but if you're just a hobbyist and is looking for a cheaper alternative than the ipad (and that you love Android and wouldn't switch between os'), then this tablet and the s3 is the one for you. The art community for Android users really need some loving haha. Thank you for this video btw. It costs the same as a good x-pen drawing tablet in my country now (forgot the model but it has a screen on it like the huion kamvas and the cintiq), I might go for the x-pen tablet so I can finally have a reason to use my macbook pro often but I still wanna buy the Tab s4 tbh :)
the apple pencil doesnt have the sensibility from spen so no, its not superior, and the new pen is the same as s3 and notes so no its not a copy, i wanted to buy an ipad pro for the clip studio but after i saw the very low pressure i better stay with samsung, apple have 1024 meanwhile the spen have 4080 :/ so, also the sd card support, is a win win for samsung, apple are just for people who doesnt know nothing or for who live where apple products are more cheap, i wont pay expensive prices for less oh and i already try it, the spen is more comfortable to me i dont have big hands
@@skepticalpanda8862 Sorry for late reply, s pen sucks and I have note devices. Any magnet case and spen go weird, now next phone is iphone 12 and never buying Samsung again

Thank you SO MUCH for reviewing this tablet,i am gonna start a digital animation and drawing but i don't know which Android tablet i wanna buy,but again thank you for reviewing this :)
Thank you so much for this review! I think it's good for people to see other options besides the apple pencil. As awesome as the apple pencil is it's not the only guy out there. I personally prefer the Android OS, so that's why I ended up buying a tab S3. I like that it uses a Wacom digitizer so I don't need to charge the pen and it shows where the pencil tip is on screen. I've been happy with it! Art App wise, I personally recommend Artflow for the Android artists out there. It doesn't have as many brushes or the textures like some of the other drawing apps like Medibang, but it's got a very good simple interface and all the Full Features you need (all the same layer and brush blending options as Photoshop, lasso/move/resize, magic wand, smudge, PSD export) Good work flow, as the name suggests lol.
I prefer Apple Pencil slightly more because the tip feels very solid. But I fine with any of the better styluses, Apple Pencil, S Pen, Surface Pen. They are all good.
Hi Teoh! I have never used any apple gadget but from my research I think I would like procreate than any drawing app available in android. Is it a hassle to transfer digital works from iPad to windows PC and vice versa?
For Windows, you have to transfer to a cloud drive (eg Google Drive, Dropbox) and download from there. For Mac users, they can transfer directly via AirDrop.
I have an S3. Aside from the bezel, I don't think I should upgrade. Might even buy a windows instead. Until they android gets better with apps on tablets, there's no reason for me to buy a tablet... with that said, how much would you sell that unit to me? haha
That quick zoom and rotate by gesture looks nice and other than the portability is the only reason I'd consider one. If I didn't already have a desktop the S3 would be right up my alley.
Thank you for this review, it's very helpful. I'm looking to get one of these tablets for drawing tho I'm still undecided which one. And thanks for showing us drawing apps, do you know any apps good for editing videos too? Also, do you have a screen protector on the tablets?
Hey, great review! I wanted to ask, what drawing app do you think is the best for drawing? I'm an architect student..if that makes any difference. Thanks!
Hi, could you kindly explore bit on printing posters out of the drawings, paintings, sketches etc from S4 please? As an artist I had problems in printing out posters from my artwork on S3 as they were not smooth. Like your opinion please
I currently have Samsung Chromebook Plus v2 and I'm planning to get an S Pen for it. I watched this video and the review for S Pen for Tab S3. Would you still recommend getting the S Pen for S3 over the one for S4?
Great review, I'm wondering though, does Adobe Draw make all the lines vectorlines? Similarly to drawing on Adobe Illustrator, there is a lag when the lines are drawn compared to photoshop lines.
Hi! Thank you for your videos! I'm going to buy a tablet for my 15 y.o. sister who's into digital drawing. Would you recommend this over the newer Galaxy tab A8 (with S pen)? I see that the S4 has AMOLED screen, which should be better than the A8's screen. But what do you think?
AMOLED screen does look better. But Tab S4 is quite old unless you can find it at a good price, then it's a good deal. Consider Tab S6 Lite. Or even Tab S6.
Great video! i have a question :when you use Spen to write on the tab s4,your skin will contact the screen,it will bother you or not ?it like be write on the real paper ?
Can you do reviews of the Surface competitors like the Acer Switch 5 Black edition, Lenovo X1 2018 tablet, and the HP Elite X2 2018 tablet. These are all 13 inch and bigger tablets and are productivity machines.
Thank you for this helpful review. I already bought the s4 and primary use is work, watching videos, but I occasionally make art, and your video helped me choose some good apps to draw more! I am confused about stylus that have recharging, do you have a video that specifically addresses diffferent drawing stylus options? Thanks!
Which apps would you recommend for sketch purposes and maybe some light color editing or paint? Also, do you have any problems with the palm of ur hand touching the screen and moving the art piece or drawing accidentally? if so, then which apps do and dont have this problem? im looking into buying this, and its not a cheap purchase for me sadly, but im not very sure if i should buy it because of possible wrist problems getting in the way of sketching, please help ;-;
Thanks for the video. I was looking for an artist review of the s4. Do you have any experience with note taking? Is there any app like notability or good notes? Thanks
Note taking is good on the Tab S4. But if you just want a good tablet to take notes, get the cheaper Tab S3 because note taking performance is similar. On Android, some good note taking apps are Inkredible and Squid.
So there is a headphone jack and you use the ones that are right? Just making sure because this will be my music and art tablet so I don’t use all of my phone space
@@teohyc I hope you do. I have seen that with that Huawei tablet and M-Pen you can even incline the stylus to work shadows and/or spread color, as you would when you incline a regular pencil. Thanks for answering and for your good videos.
Please to answer my question : how i start filming art videos for RUclips? What type of camera i should use because my phone shows strips on the tab screen
Does it still run good? I'm looking at the s4 for drawing and watching movies possibly play mobile games. I love the screen and the s pen looks smooth drawing. Gonna keep checking w ebay for some deals on used ones. If the s6 had a headphone jack I'd go for that one. I've only had kindles before but want play store. Would you recommend it for that?

I also can't get that one connected either 🤔 (I know dumb reason not to use a tablet, right??)
but Samsung made their case terrible for the S6, and people were complaining left & right so, I figured I wasn't going to pay the ridiculous price I already did for the first one (for the S4 $150!)
Anyway, thank you so much for your wonderful video!
7:34 you can find pressure curves on the drawing app, on infinite painter for example there's pressure curves for brush size, flow, opacity, jitter and even tilt, they're located on the brush settings
Thanks 😁
2022 Here. Thank you. This is exactly what I need. Your review is very thorough. Do you know if it supports Krita, Inkscape, Gimp or Open Shot?
Krita yes, the others no. Here are some good drawing apps on Android www.parkablogs.com/content/best-drawing-apps-android-tablets
Broo lets go i wanted to get this for krita
Nice review, unfortunately for me, i already have the note 8 to draw on. The only upgrade i will get is the larger screen but lesser RAM.
just waiting for the 2018 ipad pro to come out and wait for comparison.... I may go with a refurbished iPad pro 2017 model if the 2018 model don't impress. Refurbished 2017 iPad pro and tab s4 same price for me in HK.
@@itsathenas that's a hidden feature of apple products, haven't you ever wondered why screens crack so often or see people like that
Thank you very much for the thorough review. Excellent video.
Also I like that the S Pen has just the right amount of friction and not having to charge it is a plus as well. ...However, for note taking in Microsoft One Note and "pencil" illustration, I prefer the Apple.
really helpful!a great review 👍🏻👍🏻 greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷♥️
Damn, I just realized that I'm broke af
yeah like you said they should just sell it around 500$
OLEDs are pricy
OLED might make this worth it on its one. Only with an OLED screen can you have true blacks.
"i hate android tablets for no reason"
Jeewantha Dulanjana
It’s 750$ what are you talking about
But they sell it for 50 euros in belgium
you can turn the resolution scaling up or down in the settings so the buttons will be smaller
Excellent review! Thanks for taking the time to make such an in-depth review.
I have always been an Apple user, when it comes to tablets. But this has changed my mind. Great review btw, probably going to get it soon!
Great review, I appreciate you showing examples of different apps you can use to draw. Thank you!
As a bonus, videos look better and split screen apps are better.
nice, informative review. adobe draw had much stroke smoothing i think, which introduces lag in any app, when enabled.
“Self-portrait of me”
If it’s a *self-portrait* who else would it be 😂
Nice vid, i bought an ipad pro but it always bothered me the squared shape.. and also i never really liked using ios devices (i got used to it tho), if i knew about this tablet before i would’ve definitely bought it!!
never thought id say this but
BOI am i glad there are people who do reviews
non-pro iPad + pencil is cheaper no? I don't get why they pitched the S4 at this price...
Significantly cheaper
Kochigachi I was turned off by the screen resolution of the Surface Go. Huawei MediaPAd M5 Pro with LTE is a option to consider.
@Mariana Paz @Kochigachi is. I'm comparing it to the Tab S3 not the S4. What you call iPad 2018 was actually released in late 2017.
Hi! Could you try to ask for a Galaxy Tab A? Could be a nice video reviewing the cheapest tablet with an S pen vs an iPad
It costs the same as a good x-pen drawing tablet in my country now (forgot the model but it has a screen on it like the huion kamvas and the cintiq), I might go for the x-pen tablet so I can finally have a reason to use my macbook pro often but I still wanna buy the Tab s4 tbh :)
i literaly do a comic on S3 because i cant be sit down lot of time and the tiny pen helps my tendinitis, so medibang + S3 win win for me
this new pen is copy of apple pencil... go try apple pencil first maybe and then choose. apple pencil is very balanced for hands
the apple pencil doesnt have the sensibility from spen so no, its not superior, and the new pen is the same as s3 and notes so no its not a copy, i wanted to buy an ipad pro for the clip studio but after i saw the very low pressure i better stay with samsung, apple have 1024 meanwhile the spen have 4080 :/ so, also the sd card support, is a win win for samsung, apple are just for people who doesnt know nothing or for who live where apple products are more cheap, i wont pay expensive prices for less
oh and i already try it, the spen is more comfortable to me i dont have big hands
@@Westsider4eva Its wacom tech my dude. And Samsung was working with them BEFORE developement of the Apple Pencil XD
@@skepticalpanda8862 Sorry for late reply, s pen sucks and I have note devices. Any magnet case and spen go weird, now next phone is iphone 12 and never buying Samsung again
@@dogkun20 still cant beat apple pencil brain, with cheap magnetic ancient tech wanna be apple pencil, using both from start till today FYI and samsung will never catch up with apple pencil. Also sorry I was using second account for a year lol
Thank you SO MUCH for reviewing this tablet,i am gonna start a digital animation and drawing but i don't know which Android tablet i wanna buy,but again thank you for reviewing this :)
Do you think this tablet still good in 2022 ? I considering between this and the s6 lite , my main is drawing not play game
I have subscribed. I liked how you tackled my problem on this. Thanks
“Now let’s do a review on the epic apple pencil that came with m-“
Oh wait.
Excellent review!! Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see the comparison video.
Excellent review. Thank you, Teoh!
Welcome \ (•◡•) /
Do you *really* not have a preference between Samsung/EMR/s-pen and Apple/Pencil? (I much prefer the s-pen)
Great detailed review and I appreciated the drawing app performance comparison.
I think it costs a bit too much, so I looked up on other Samsung tablets and I found the Galaxy Tab A (2019).
What do you think about it?
Tab a is shit
@@R34LOwnedU i have tab a6 (2017) and i think is good
I bought a pen display :]
I have an S3. Aside from the bezel, I don't think I should upgrade. Might even buy a windows instead. Until they android gets better with apps on tablets, there's no reason for me to buy a tablet... with that said, how much would you sell that unit to me? haha
Thank you for text version! It really saves some time. BTW, can you say something about drawing on Nuvision Solo Draw 10?
I've not tried that app before
Thanks for this review, it helped me decide on which sort of tablet I should buy! Very helpful indeed!
That quick zoom and rotate by gesture looks nice and other than the portability is the only reason I'd consider one. If I didn't already have a desktop the S3 would be right up my alley.
Beggining of the sentence (1x speed), middle part of sentence (3x speed), last word of sentence (0,25x speed) lol
Thank you for this review, it's very helpful. I'm looking to get one of these tablets for drawing tho I'm still undecided which one. And thanks for showing us drawing apps, do you know any apps good for editing videos too? Also, do you have a screen protector on the tablets?
I don't know of video editing apps on Android.
Interesting video. I recently got tab 4 but I have a problem. I want to ask if you can reduce the growth of the pen to the display.
Growth?
Hey, great review! I wanted to ask, what drawing app do you think is the best for drawing? I'm an architect student..if that makes any difference. Thanks!
Maybe check out Concepts concepts.app/en/
Hi, could you kindly explore bit on printing posters out of the drawings, paintings, sketches etc from S4 please? As an artist I had problems in printing out posters from my artwork on S3 as they were not smooth. Like your opinion please
Great review as always Teoh
I currently have Samsung Chromebook Plus v2 and I'm planning to get an S Pen for it. I watched this video and the review for S Pen for Tab S3. Would you still recommend getting the S Pen for S3 over the one for S4?
S3 S Pen is more comfortable to hold.
@@teohyc Alright! I trust your recommendation. Thanks for the great review! I found this video very helpful.
Great review, I'm wondering though, does Adobe Draw make all the lines vectorlines? Similarly to drawing on Adobe Illustrator, there is a lag when the lines are drawn compared to photoshop lines.
Those are vector lines. You can zoom to 6400% and lines are still sharp
Great review! Thank you so much for this!
Excellent review. 👍 I always suggest your channel when I see people asking about digital or traditional artist tools and mediums. 😄
Thanks 😁
@@teohyc thank you!
Hey what wallpaper are you using for the tab s4
Great video! i have a question :when you use Spen to write on the tab s4,your skin will contact the screen,it will bother you or not ?it like be write on the real paper ?
There's palm rejection so there will not be any stray strokes.
Thank you very much for answering my question.
Have you tried LayerPaint ? It ends being very responsive on most the devices I use and I'm curious of how well it would perform there.
Can you do reviews of the Surface competitors like the Acer Switch 5 Black edition, Lenovo X1 2018 tablet, and the HP Elite X2 2018 tablet. These are all 13 inch and bigger tablets and are productivity machines.
Only if I can get my hands on some review units
can you rest your hand on the screen while drawing? I want to buy a tablet to take notes and I don't see anyone talking about that
btw great review!!
There is palm rejection
I tested out the s pen and didn’t really like it but I’m happy for everyone who loves their Samsung s tablet ❤️
Thank you for this helpful review. I already bought the s4 and primary use is work, watching videos, but I occasionally make art, and your video helped me choose some good apps to draw more! I am confused about stylus that have recharging, do you have a video that specifically addresses diffferent drawing stylus options? Thanks!
can you try Huawei Matebook E 2019 with pen?
Excellent review. Very in-depth. Thank you.
Welcome 😁
Can you rest your hands on the screen while writing like the note 9?
You can
Which apps would you recommend for sketch purposes and maybe some light color editing or paint? Also, do you have any problems with the palm of ur hand touching the screen and moving the art piece or drawing accidentally? if so, then which apps do and dont have this problem? im looking into buying this, and its not a cheap purchase for me sadly, but im not very sure if i should buy it because of possible wrist problems getting in the way of sketching, please help ;-;
You can try Artflow, Autodesk Sketchbook, Medibang
@@teohyc okay thank you so much, im looking to buy one tommorow :)
Thank you very much!
The best review I have seen Tab s4
I love you
Which app did you use?
You rock Teoh !!!
This is a very thorough review! I can appreciate this. Although I have the iPad Pro this was still nice to watch
Thanks :-)
about to purchase this today, would you really recommend this, or is there any good tablet out there that are good for drawing?
iPad Air 3 if you can find it at same price

what app do you recomend?
Medibang Paint Pro, Artflow

I think I’m going to buy this one. It all sounds really good, but is it also good to read word files on?
It's great for reading. Text is sharp/crisp.
I just want to know what brush you were using on the medibang drawing on the tab 4
The lineart brush i mean
It's called G Pen
So there is a headphone jack and you use the ones that are right? Just making sure because this will be my music and art tablet so I don’t use all of my phone space

Please, review the Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro 10.8... I would love to know your opinion of the usability for drawing with the included M-Pen. Thank you!
I'll see if I can get my hands on one.
@@teohyc I hope you do. I have seen that with that Huawei tablet and M-Pen you can even incline the stylus to work shadows and/or spread color, as you would when you incline a regular pencil. Thanks for answering and for your good videos.
Funny, I use the image at the background on the s4 (min 3:25) in one assigamen I had. Nice review!

: how i start filming art videos for RUclips? What type of camera i should use because my phone shows strips on the tab screen
Try changing the frame rate. Switch between 24, 25 and 30 to see if that removes the strips.

Does it still run good? I'm looking at the s4 for drawing and watching movies possibly play mobile games. I love the screen and the s pen looks smooth drawing.
