Thank you. This is by far the most in-depth artist review I've seen for S8 Ultra so far (and there's only few artist reviews out right now). Deep and detailed is precisely the kind of review I was looking for.

I just bought the S8 plus. It’s my first foray into digital art but I’ve been drawing traditionally and have been a watercolor artist for years. While I don’t have any previous experience with other devices, I absolutely love the feel of digital art. The plus is 12.4 inches which is HUGE for me, and that ultra looks gorgeous! I’m extremely happy with my purchase. I just recently bought an iPhone 13 which was my first iPhone since the 4 and I really don’t like it. I had an S20 ultra before and I really wish I’d just gotten a new Samsung. I have the whole ecosystem with the buds and the watch and now tablet. I can’t wait until my 2 years is up and I can get a new Samsung!
Fantastic and detailed review. Ive always been tempted to buy one of the 14-16 inch drawing slates, but didn’t want to always be connected to my computer to use them. Decided to trade in my Tab S7+ for the S8 Ultra and just waiting for my delayed preorder to arrive in a few weeks.
Pen needs two side buttons instead of the bad ergonomics of a rear eraser. Great video, a decent sized wireless pen display with a mobile OS tacked on is a freakn awesome idea, I hope this trend continues to improve... I think I'm reconsidering my next mobile computer purpose. I would love to ditch this lumbering cintiq for a large enough, wireless pen display.
Great tablet for basically everything. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxLNmVocUk8tnSkwWIlYSNFzWRIaFTBuzS I bought it specifically for art, and that 4k screen is really fantastic for it! Also has LOUD audio, even tho the speakers aren't in necessarily prime locations it really projects! You do need to get a case for this bad boy IMMEDIATLY though as it doesn't come with one.Battery life is really good! Standby time us FANTASTIC. This guy can go about a week on standby and be just fine. The screen is massive so the longer you have the screen on, brightness especially, it will effect battery life. I am very happy with it though! One thing that I didn't consider is that since the screen resolution is so high, viewing ticktocks/ reading webtoons can be slightly blurry. There is no way to turn down resolution either, so it just be like that.Would still judge this bad boi at 10/10 for my first tablet. I've had it 3 months now and its not shown any evidence of "slowing down" or anything. Love it!
Great video! I've been putting off buying myself a tablet for drawing for over a year because I just couldn't decide and found so many options and nothing really helped me make up my mind until I stumbled over this review. Just bought it, excited to see how it goes for me when I get it!
21:36 SuperDisplay is brutally awesome and super inexpensive. Honestly, the quality of SuperDisplay making a drawing second monitor for my laptop was an important reason I bought a Samsung Tablet instead of a Wacom/Huion/XP-PEN drawing tablet. If I were a manager at Samsung, I would ditch Second Sceen and hire the guy making Super Display.
Me want! 😆. No seriously, I have the S7+ and want more than anything to trade in to the S8U. As an artist screen real-estate is where it's at. You just can't get better than this on an android tablet. So you get THE best pen / drawing support via the S-pen and the largest display. It's a win win!
I have both the iPad Pro 12.9" and S8 Ultra, I prefer the S8 Ultra. The only thing I wished is that the S8 Ultra came in a 1TB option and that the official Samsung keyboard case-cover had USB charging pass-through so as to save wear'n'tear on the USB-C socket's lifespan on the S8 Ultra - similar to Apple's case where plugging and unplugging the cable connecter directly to the iPad is not required from passing through the charging via gold pins on the case to gold contact receptors on the tablet. I've had USB-C, Micro USB and Mini USB sockets fail on me over time as their long-term reliability is not great and I can see why Apple retain the reliability of their lightening connector on their iPhones because 1). the lightening connected seems a little more robust with better lifespan and 2). the recent incarnation of iPhones have wireless charging (as with some Galaxy phones). The ability of not having to plug in the USB-C cable to the iPad Pro every time because of the Apple's case passing through the charging, is exactly what prolongs the iPad's USB-c's socket lifespan. Sadly, with the S8 Ultra this is not achievable at this current moment in time and a great tragedy - unless someone in Samsung acts speedily to release a version of the official Samsung keyboard case with USB charging pass-through. Other than the above, I still prefer the S8 Ultra.

Hi, thanks for a really clear review, presented in a clear chapters format, I'm a graphic designer and for portability and the s-pen decided to try this tablet. I will love if you can amplify the info about design programs, specially for vector works and eps formats. Thanks!
Unfortunately the graphic design apps on Android are lacking. And the ones available cannot match the feature set you can get with apps on the iPad such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. For drawing purposes the Samsung is on par with iPad. But for graphic design, it's behind. I highly recommend you download Krita and Clip Studio Paint for testing to see if they fit your workflow for graphic design, and if so that's great because they are available on Android.

8+ will have same drawing performance. But 8+ is more portable. 8 Ultra feels like using a laptop with detachable display. 8+ size is already quite big for drawing. As I use my tablets mostly at home, the larger 8 Ultra works fine for me, but if I need to bring the tablet out often, 8+ is better option
Thank you for you review! Now I'm really excited for my pre-order of the 128GB version. It's good that you also covered the 2nd monitor feature as I will be using this as a 2nd monitor when I work outside from home. And I have seen reviews also recommending the Superdisplay app to remove lag. Just want to ask your opinion, is it ok to use this as a drawing tablet for my PC at home, or should I get a dedicated drawing tablet like a Huion Kamvas? It will be used mostly for Photoshop photo editing, graphic design and a bit of drawing.
I know your question is addressed to the reviewer, but I may be able to offer insight. I have the S7 Plus. I use it in combination with Superdisplay. The only thing you don't have are physical hot keys, which you don't need if you're using your keyboard for shortcuts or something like Tourbox. I'll be getting the S8 Ultra soon for the larger screen space. I struggle to see what Kamvas would provide that you wouldn't already have with an S8 Ultra setup.
Hi Teoh! I tested the regular S8 in the store and tested clip art and notetaking (or the basic program whatever it's called for notes) was superfast with the pen, no lag at all. But clip art was a noticable lag. When I tested the ipad pro procreate had no lag at all. So my question is will there be updates for the S8 line for the most popular programs regarding the pens response, and when? thx
I don't expect the drawing apps to update to take advantage of the 2.8ms latency. So currently there aren't many drawing apps that have minimal latency. Actually even with Procreate, there's latency if you look for it.
@@teohontech7141Ok, That's ashame :(. Ipad pro seems better optimized for the pen, so I might go with that then. Bummer, The S8+ seems better otherwise...
I think I will probably use the clip studio that came with the tablet. Plus they have a TABMATE device that is supposed to work with it. Plus the for format is similar to photoshop.
Thanks for the videos, I really like your reviews, they're more details and reliable than others I've come across. By the way, I have a question, is palm rejection on this s8 ultra works good?
@@angieg8846 If your main software is Adobe, XP-Pen or other pen displays will be better. The Adobe apps on iPads are not the desktop apps and only have a subset of features. I personally don't find it productive to use Adobe apps on iPad.
I'm so confused between an ipad Air 5 (256gb) with the pencil and the samsung tab s8+ since they literally cost the same lol. I'm basically a webcomic artist/ illustrator and i currently use csp. I need a tab since I'll be moving to uni soon and i want something portable, don't wanna be wandering around with my laptop and pentab haha Can anyone help me out here?
Did you? I started to about a year ago, a piece at a time. Just bought a refurbished S8 Ultra and I've had it for a week and a half, and I'm happy with my Samsung setup - does everything my Apple ecosystem did with itself, except it also doesn't fight me on anything that Apple decided I don't need to do, such as sideloading apps or having apps in splitscreen that weren't specifically optimized for it.
This is Exactly what I was looking for. I don't use a screen protector on my S7 and I have no visible scratches after a year on my screen. I decided to try the S7 for drawing and I love it but quickly realized how valuable a bigger screen would be. Does the screen seem scratch resistant in your use? That's the only thing I'm afraid of. I'm so excited to get my pre-order by April with the extra screen real estate.
Not sure how scratch resistant the glass is. I guess if you have a flip cover and clean off any grit there shouldn’t be scratches. The pen tip is definitely not going to scratch the glass
For graphic design, go with iPad which has graphic design apps such as Photoshop, Affinity Photo, Illustrator. Affinity Designer, Vectornator, Amadine.
Hey, this was informative. Thanks. My spen randomly clicks while i am painting and I am not even touching the button. Why woıld that be, you have an idea?
nice review, thnx. what i would like to know, is it possible to add this tablet as third screen on my dual screen windows setup (also in 16:10 ratio)? does windows recognize it automatically and extend workspace automatically? what cable do i need? i think i will ditch my ipad pro for something like this, i can't stand ios system (while hardware is nice). if they bring all regular creative aps to android, no question about it..
Hello, sorry for my english but i have question about some apps for samsung. I really like tab s9 ultra but im amateur photographer and normally im using photoshop and lightroom. But i think i cant download adobe photoshop in this tablet :( no any apps for samsung same like photoshop. Im not talking about photoshop express its not the same like computer or ipad version. Do you have any idea for me which program is the best for samsung same like tools with photoshop like ipad or computer version... thank you very much and also what about lightroom is it same like ipad version... For example, can I process my photos layer by layer? Or can I combine two photos? For example, can I delete the sky in a photograph and give it a space image? Thank youuuuu
If you don't need to use a pen, a laptop will be much better for editing photos. There is no Photoshop on Android. Adobe Lightroom tablet version is not the desktop version. And if you have a keyboard with the Samsung, it's not very different in size and weight compared to a laptop which may also have a pen-supported display.
It'll probably be unusable due to lag and I doubt pressure sensitivity support but have you tried remote desktop on it? Tho it's probably certain I'll go the Galaxy Book 2 360 instead in the future to prioritise my desktop apps, it's just it still having a 1080p60Hz screen is a total turn off, specially when Samsung has this tablet! Also, could seem redundant but it'd be fun to try a pen display instead of just a regular portable monitor, e.g. Huion does advertise for android. At least it'd allow to use the tab like a laptop with the keyboard for shortcuts and it also saves on S-pen nibs!
The SuperDisplay app works much better than Samsung Second Screen for external monitor support, and is more usable. There's no point using a Huion pen display with large screen Android tablets because you can already draw on the tablet. Whether keyboard shortcuts will work will depend on the app you use. Most apps don't support keyboard shortcuts because they were not designed for use with keyboards in the first place. Krita and Clip Studio Paint have keyboard support because they are desktop apps in the first place.
@@teohontech7141 I meant remote desktop as in outside your local wifi, which is why I said it'll probably not work. I know it kinda works on windows devices with windows ink but, just wondering how far is it from working on android. And I'll have to disagree, there are points for pen displays, say one is the pen nibs as I wrote, you yourself said how difficult it is to find S-pen nibs meanwhile pen display ones are much more accessible, the second one is size. While almost no one will be carrying more than a 16"pen display, some may have 24" or more at home, work or school they might want to drive with it instead of a pc. Then there are minor points like perhaps brightness and matte screen on a not so dark room and the preference on pen feeling. I did say it might seem redundant but I do think a lot of people can find a uses for it, specially if they only have this.
@@teohontech7141 Doesn't need to be constantly updated if it works. The output is the most important factor. Never had a client ask me what I used to output their work on. The computer industry is insanity based, nonsense.
@@teohontech7141 ahhh thank you so much for your quick replay... Appreciated... So it's depanding on the app you using? It's not a Android tablet point? What software is best to create content?

I already have a monitor connected to my surface laptop so it would be great to have the s8 connected remotely as a 3rd screen. Hope you have also tried this out
How do I stop my hand from closing the app when I'm drawing? I can't rest my hand on the tablet to draw as it just causes the app to close and others to open. :(

Thank you! I couldn't make out what he was saying when he mentioned the name of the app, I kept hearing "consnaps".
@@DAreturnerhey, what device did you decide to go with in the end?
How did you get the pen to work with brush tool. I connected my tab s8 to my laptop but the brush tool does not work.
Fantastic info.
hi, pls can u tell which is better for drawing> lenovo p11 pro 2021 or matepad 11?
You don't need to turn off the press button to activate air command because when the spen is near the screen, it won't open air command.
Can you compare the s-pen on the box with the s-pen pro when using this tablet? Which one works better?
I think I will probably use the clip studio that came with the tablet. Plus they have a TABMATE device that is supposed to work with it. Plus the for format is similar to photoshop.
Thanks for the videos, I really like your reviews, they're more details and reliable than others I've come across. By the way, I have a question, is palm rejection on this s8 ultra works good?
Palm rejection works well. For apps where you can choose to have only pen input, palm rejection is perfect.
Teoh is the best reviewer for drawing tablets!!
Is it possible to use the Adobe suite like animation after effects photoshop on the tablet???
Unfortunately no. That's the main downside for artists, designers and creatives.
Ah that tablet really could of been everything! Is there any tablet that I use Adobe with? Or am I better off with xp pen artist 16 or something?
@@angieg8846 If your main software is Adobe, XP-Pen or other pen displays will be better. The Adobe apps on iPads are not the desktop apps and only have a subset of features. I personally don't find it productive to use Adobe apps on iPad.
I'm so confused between an ipad Air 5 (256gb) with the pencil and the samsung tab s8+ since they literally cost the same lol.
I'm basically a webcomic artist/ illustrator and i currently use csp. I need a tab since I'll be moving to uni soon and i want something portable, don't wanna be wandering around with my laptop and pentab haha
Can anyone help me out here?
Since CSP is available on both tablets, you can choose either. My general advice is to choose based on the software you want to use.
@@teohontech7141 well that's a unique take, thanks I'll keep that in mind!
wow!!as a leftie artist palm rejection is a dream in itself.. definitely helped make the choice better
I really would love this same exact version to buy but my search is to no avail so sad 😔
Great video. Seriously thinking about getting the S8 Ultra...
Good review, thanks :D I was wondering whether to shift from Apple to Samsung. This looks like good option
4:25 i want to know what is the apps?
Concepts
Hi there is it possible to get Adobe illustrator and Adobe photoshop on the Samsung galaxy tab s8 plus and ultra
No unfortunately
Very useful indeed thanks for the detailed & demonstrated review
Very good review
Hello thank you for the video. Is 128GO enough please ?
Yes because there is microSD card
what are is the maximum layers on clip studio paint for the 12gb ram model?
How dou you think which app for android better to use for marketin (ad) design? Somting with mo vector (like coreldraw)
For graphic design, go with iPad which has graphic design apps such as Photoshop, Affinity Photo, Illustrator. Affinity Designer, Vectornator, Amadine.
Hey Teoh,
When painting with this tablet does it display brush size and texture while hovering on screen? Like what we see with wacom
That will depend on the app you use. For Clip Studio Paint, yes
@@teohontech7141 Thanks for the reply =)
Hi do you have a dedicated video playlist for samsung s8 ultra drawing tuts? Thanks for the videos very helpful!!!
I don’t. I’ve only made some drawing tutorials with Concepts app. You can search for those with “teoh concepts” on RUclips
Amazing!!
Hey, this was informative. Thanks.
My spen randomly clicks while i am painting and I am not even touching the button. Why woıld that be, you have an idea?
i have tiny hands and i love the way it feels in my hands so if i can handle it samsung knew what they were doing when they made it extra thin
nice review, thnx. what i would like to know, is it possible to add this tablet as third screen on my dual screen windows setup (also in 16:10 ratio)? does windows recognize it automatically and extend workspace automatically? what cable do i need?
i think i will ditch my ipad pro for something like this, i can't stand ios system (while hardware is nice). if they bring all regular creative aps to android, no question about it..
You can adjust the aspect ratio as with any monitor using Windows display settings
@@teohontech7141 ok. but does it work as a 3rd monitor etc?
@@izoyt Yes it works

And if you have a keyboard with the Samsung, it's not very different in size and weight compared to a laptop which may also have a pen-supported display.
nice review
Have you tried Skedio, AutoDesk Sketchbook and Sketches apps? What about. Bamboo by Wacom?
They all work fine. Skedio hasn't been updated since 2020. I just discovered another vector app called Vector Ink and it's quite good.
@@teohontech7141 Doesn't need to be constantly updated if it works. The output is the most important factor. Never had a client ask me what I used to output their work on. The computer industry is insanity based, nonsense.
Does it has handpalm recognition? Or spen input only?
There ia good palm rejection with the right apps
@@teohontech7141 ahhh thank you so much for your quick replay... Appreciated... So it's depanding on the app you using? It's not a Android tablet point? What software is best to create content?
@@tijntrix There are many drawing apps. Just search for best drawing apps on RUclips

Hello . This tablet will lag if I use clip studio paint whit the stabilizer ?
No
Hello. I need help for this tablet, how much lag have for drawing ?
And i need to know if there is a good alternative to celtx
There isn't noticeable lag when drawing. This is fantastic tablet for drawing.
@@IL_SIGNORE_TOMBALE I don't know what is celtx. Anyway, you should choose your device based on the software you want to use. Make sure your device can install the app you want to use.
@@teohontech7141 sorry
Can I use the app super display with the usbc cable that comes with the tablet? I'm confused because you said that it doesn't transmit video.
Short answer is yes
Waiting for the Spen latency comparison between S7+ and S8 series
Here in Malaysia still haven't got my Preorder yet. it end on 3rd March.
Hey thanks for the detailled review! I have a question about 19:33 using the s8 ultra as a second screen: is it also possible to use it as a third screen? I already have a monitor connected to my surface laptop so it would be great to have the s8 connected remotely as a 3rd screen. Hope you have also tried this out
Yes you can.
How do I stop my hand from closing the app when I'm drawing? I can't rest my hand on the tablet to draw as it just causes the app to close and others to open. :(
Depending on the app you use, you may have to go to the app settings to turn on pen-input only, or palm rejection.
@@teohontech7141 Thanks for your reply, I'll try that 😊
Awesome reviews as always :-)
Would Dex allow me to use Android drawing apps on my XP-Pen tablet monitor?
