It looks very good because it's basically the only movie where all the animation and motion capture was done entirely by Industrial Light & Magic, the people that did the effects for Star Wars and a ton of other blockbusters.
Rattlesnake Jake is one of the best animated villains ever. His design is incredible, he's super intimidating, and Bill Nighy does an amazing voice performance. Him facing Rango is basically a reunion of Davy Jones and Jack Sparrow.

This movie holds up for me even now. From the narrators constantly claiming Rango _will definitely die,_ to Lizard for Lunch remaining one of my favorite soundtrack pieces, to Rango's whole journey and discovery of just who he truly is and the confrontation with Rattlesnake Jake... God, this film is great.
If you think about it, Rango did actually die in the movie. However, it was actually who he saw himself as before that died - this being his insecurities and how he viewed himself before his encounter with the Spirit of the West

You can also say that even though the hawk does try to kill him, it ends up being a guardian angel cause he would have DEFINITELY lost that shootout with the lizard guy if the hawk didn’t interrupt
Jake is seen as a force of nature by the townfolk and being called the "Grim Reaper", since he's part of a dying breed of gunslingers because of progress. That's one of the many things I love about this movie.

I know I REFUSED to watch it when I was younger because it was so gross- even now there's a few scenes that still eek me out- but as an adult I appreciate it much more. My favorite fact is that all the voice actors actually performed the scenes live. While they were doing the script readings. So, the animation studio could go back and use the real live part to get the movement perfectly.

We don’t even need so much time to be scared by Jake. He’s a reaper. A force of nature. He comes in, takes what he wants, kills if need be, and disappears as quickly as he showed up. Just by here-say and rumors we learn, he’s not to be messed with. The last sherrif, Billy, Jake killed because he was probably in his way. Put him in his place. But Rango? He may be a killer, but even Jake hates liars. As such, he doesn’t give Rango the satisfaction of death. He’s forced to live with that shame of lying and using people. And the iconic line, “Only takes one bullet”, comes full circle. No matter if your a big, deadly threat like Jake, or a small, coward like Rango, it doesn’t matter. The deeds make the man, but all it takes, is one bullet in the right place, to meet your maker. The great equalizer. But did Rango use it to take a life or spare one? Yes. He reminded Jake of his mortality, and that he *chose* not to kill the outlaw. Because it’s not the man Rango was after. The mayor brought Jake in, manipulated Rango. And the reaper gets his due in time. The mayor, Rango, Jake… the deeds make the man. And we all were shown by their actions what type of men these three were. Each revealed, with the threat of mortality, in just one bullet.
My favorite scene would have to be the desert scene with the hawk. I just love how realistic it is. Like how the halk lifted the bottle not only to break the bottle open, but also so he could kill the prey. That and I really love birds.
Rango is one of my favorite animated movies of all time, and I'm surprised that ILM, the same studio that made the VFX for the Transformers movies, made the animation for Rango. And it's great that ILM has come back to the world of animation with movies such as Ultraman: Rising and the upcoming Transformers One.

SPOILERS AHEAD When Rango first came out, I thought it was kinda weird and bad. Adult me came back and watched this recently and discovered that no, this movie is unironically a masterpiece. It is simply a story about this little twerp growing to care about the people he’s faking it to, and eventually growing into the person he was projecting. Great stuff.

My favorite scene would have to be the desert scene with the hawk. I just love how realistic it is. Like how the halk lifted the bottle not only to break the bottle open, but also so he could kill the prey.

Rango is one of my favorite animated movies of all time, and I'm surprised that ILM, the same studio that made the VFX for the Transformers movies, made the animation for Rango. And it's great that ILM has come back to the world of animation with movies such as Ultraman: Rising and the upcoming Transformers One.

When Rango first came out, I thought it was kinda weird and bad. Adult me came back and watched this recently and discovered that no, this movie is unironically a masterpiece. It is simply a story about this little twerp growing to care about the people he’s faking it to, and eventually growing into the person he was projecting. Great stuff.
Rango is literally just Pirates of the Caribbean but an animated western and it’s the best thing ever

5:07 Holy shit. I've been trying to figure out the name of that movie for years. When I was in like 7th grade I turned on my tv at like 3am and Mind Game was playing and I remember watching it while exhausted and feeling so tripped out. I tried to figure out the name of it for years after that but i couldn't remember any specific plot point well enough for google to turn up any results. Can't believe this is how I figured it out of all things.
