Hello Sarah! I have a video to request if you would be interested at all. I live in low income housing and for reasons I wont go into I cant cook here except for a kettle to heat water. A l,ot of people in low income or bad housing actually live this way. I also cant eat gluten. Wondering if you would think about doing a video on suggestions of no cook meals or kettle water meals. The only things I make with the kettle are quick oats or rice soup. I buy precooked rice packets (very pricy in canada!) add some better than bouillon and then the kettle water and let it sit for a min to heat up the rice. Thanks for reading
oh man, sorry to hear about that! I lived in a room without kitchen access for a while when I was very poor and I wound up making my own makeshift kitchen over time. A microwave, a toaster oven or air fryer, and a crockpot can really help increase your options and those appliances can often be bought secondhand for cheap. my go-to no-cook meals are always things like sandwiches or cheese and crackers, but if you can't have gluten, that definitely decrease those options.
i once rented a room with no kitchen access (before air fryers became popular). i used a 3 cup rice cooker, an electric wok and a microwave to cook meals. are you able to use any small appliances? i did see a video where a chef made a 3 course meal using only a coffee maker!
I’ve been very interested in this but felt overwhelmed while researching. Appreciate all of your efforts to do this video!😊 Also I’m always so happy to see longer videos from you in my feed. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
As other folks have mentioned, I was waiting for you to bust out the hing/asafetida as an allium alternative! But that delicious stank does accumulate if you cook with it too much 😅 And OH MY GOODNESS THE CUTE KITTIES!!!!!! Please allow them to continue to sabotage your videos
Hope your husband is feeling better, Sarah. Glad the ER results was gas and nothing more serious. Almost been thete with my child once or twice. Her limited diet (yay ADHD, SPD and ASD!) means she sometimes over does some of her safe foods and blocks herself up. Shes a sucker for glutenous foods especially. Movicol, an over-the-counter, non-addictive laxative has helped us. Good on you both for trying this a trial. It was worth a shot. As much as garlic and onions make me gassy, I'd be missing them and craving them by the end, too. The steak salads looked pretty good though, as did thst rice pudding. Yum!
This was very interesting. I really like your, "I went on ____ diet for a week" videos. I also love that you actually make EVERYTHING from scratch, even down to the tortillas. PS. What happened to your fluffy cats??
Thank goodness your husband only had gas this time around. It’s always frustrating when you cannot find the cause of illness. Hope he will feel better soon. You too kitties are getting big and so cute.
I spent some time cackling about your sadness over the onion and garlic. I have bad ibs and can eat basically no onion and garlic, and I have to say that after 10 years I still miss onions. 🧅🧄 Thankfully I can do dairy and some cruciferous veg. Napa cabbage is easier to digest than standard red or green or Savoy cabbage. Thanks for the really well done explainer.
I am not sure you have seen the ‘new’ food shopping method called to 6-1 . This would be a nice addition to all of your other budget food shopping videos. Also with the cost of groceries going up a food budgeting video would probably do well and maybe a companion with a previous video.
I love this and am going to share in the SIBO communities I’m in. Folks are always desperate for low fodmap tips. Just fyi, you can used garlic-infused olive oil on low fodmap.
Yes! FODMAPs are no joke and I’m the same w the high FODMAP ones. I have it down to a science now and make tons of yummy food no problem. The elimination diet and Monash University app REALLY changed my life. Only six medium green grapes are low FODMAP, and cherry tomatoes aren’t, the app changes. I hope he feels better soon, you’re a wonderful wife to help him. ❤
I need to do a low fodmap diet again. I improve greatly when I do. I look 6 months pregnant otherwise. Plus, my stomach ulcer seems to improve. I just find onions and garlic and everything else so delicious. The thing is, I always regret it after eating foods with lots of fodmaps. Yet, repeat the cycle. Hopefully your husband has figured out his triggers. (Haven't made it though entire video yet).
I have a sliding hiatus hernia and IBS as well. I took the highest probiotic I could find for 2yrs. That helped immensely with the IBS. The hiatus hernia, nothing helps but I've had to take rabeprazole, a medication to reduce stomach acid. It helps immensely with abdominal pain. I also "quit" drinking coke. I too had a cola addiction. Now I can't stand it. I do drink ginger ale but drinking iced tea and juices helped with that. Fun fact: Danica is a Serbian name. It is also my sister's and daughter's name. It is pronounced "duh-knee-tsa" Dana, Dada, or Daca (Duh-tsa)for short!
When we were looking up names for the kittens, Danica had a couple different origins (I think the other origin was Hebrew.) We just call her "Nica" for short, though.
Well I never heard of this before. Must be like a diet to test for allergies. Way back when I was in college, I took a health type gym class for nurses. The one thing I remember was her recommending moderation and variety. Pretty good idea. I hope your hubby gets well soon.
Would you be able to use Asafoetida in place of cooked onion/garlic? That might help the flavor immensely if you can stand the smell in your house. Mine is currently in "Spice Jail" across the house so I don't have to smell it.
It sounds like you got exactly the information you needed about your husbands health. I hope they can figure out what's going on with his pain. Is that part of the reason he's up all night?
Your diet expeirment videos are always an interesting watch. Thanks Sarah🥰

No I cant use appliances other than a kettle which is why I was asking. If I could get a microwave I would but I cant. @@kimcheelove

candles and kittens...maybe no?
I always supervise when I have a candle lit and kittens present.

That’s a good alternative I’ve heard
