Hi, thank you for this very informative video. I am new to container gardening. I have purchased 2 greenstalks. I also purchased 4 medium stackables from Lowe's to ease my way before diving into the greenstalks:). I started purchasing my seeds and had no idea of this type of Bok Choy. I will definitely add this to my collection. You did a very good job explaining every step (especially to a beginner:). Just subscribed😊Wishing you both continued blessings, health and wellness, abundance, prosperity, love, and happiness. God bless!

I love Bok Choy! I love to sauté with onions, and peppers and other vegetables. This year I had a palette that was missing some boards, so I put some dirt through the cracks and planted some there. I will try planting some more in one of my containers. Our heat has been upper 80's and 90's so I've been waiting for it to cool down.

I love your tutorials. I really like that Nancy shows us unique ways to use the veggies that I grew up with and how to use the ones like bok choi that I had never had before.
I do have a suggestion. The intense sun and radiation from all of the solar flares this year have made everything quit and be hard to grow. I've watched several videos and they are suggesting using shade cloth and it seems to be working. I've just ordered some to try to salvage my harvest and for my fall garden. I hope this may help you too. God bless!

This is a great tutorial. Here in the Northeast, our growing season is short to begin with. We've missed the spring plantings because our weather wasn't participating very well. Now is the time for fall planting and we've had extremely hot, humid weather with little rain. I'm going to get some shade cloth because the sun is just killing everything except weeds. Very unusual for Maine this year.

I started several of these indoors here in SE Idaho in February. The seedlings were beautiful but they bolted soon after I transplanted them into the gro-boxes outside. So guess what? I fed them all to my young chickens who gobbled them up. I will try these again. They're such pretty little plants.

Random question... I just realized that with all the gardening channels I watch, I don't recall anyone saying what they do with their "used" pot soil. I understand that if you have a ground bed, you could simply turn it in. However, if someone were gardening in a small space and they don't have a yard to dump containers in, what should they do with their "used" soil? Maybe a video opportunity for how to "recycle" pot soil? Would it be cheaper to make new soil (your recipe) or recycle used soil by amending it and adding supplements?

Just started watching at about 3 min. You took the tray over to where you start seedlings. ( I wanted to see what else was in there)
It was a wonderful vid up till then ... And still is I'm certain, all the way thru to the end.
BUT anyhow ... Since you were over there any way, I'd love to get a glimpse of all the others in the"seed starting platform" and where they are today. I'm positive there are othethers who watch you daily (I'm not able) that would love a day-by-day (or week by week.... Or whatever we can get) update on what's going on in y'all's little corner.
Anyhow, don't mean to put any more pressure on you, just, if you're over there anyway, give us an update on what's going on in the"starting habitat"I.
Thank you for all you are and all you do.
God bless you and Nancy and all of yours.
Glory to God for all our blessings!

Hi. Doesn't Miss Nancy have a grow table with shade cloth?
That sounds like what their tender leaves need. You might need some shade cloth on your planting table, our Fla Sun gets hot n I notice you don't wear a wide straw brime hat. Soooo, looking forward to cooler weather, but we have to get thru our hurricane season. Yep, till November !! Something is brewing off of Africa now n expected to develop. Peace to you and yours

Mine just keep bolting in the very tiny stage. It is very frustrating as I garden in North West UK which is supposed to be cooler milder climate. My spring ones bolted when they were 5 cm tall. The autumn ones are just doing nothing and the ones i put in shadier place in spring bolted too. I seem to not be able to get them to grow past the 5 cm stage in a climate that average temperature is 13 C.

I put up a shade net over cold crops and cruciferous vegetables during the summer, it also protects from ( mountain) hail in spring and fall and keeps off leaves and needles from trees. I finish plants out and collect huge amounts of seeds. the pak choy seed is about ready , thousands of seeds. And I can start planting them for a fall crop in a couple weeks.

The way I have my hardening table oriented with my property and the tall trees on the west side of my table, they only get 6 hours of sun per day👍. As you can see, once the temps came down they flourished. What I did to improve is adjusted my planting schedule for this particular variety was shift my planting schedule 3 weeks to the right👍

    • @HollisNancysHomestead
      @HollisNancysHomestead  2 года назад +1

Yes ma’am. The orientation of my container garden allows for morning sun with afternoon shade. The high temperature heat with high humidity is a challenge in Florida. Normally the time that I planted them would have been fine. We just had an unexpected heat wave late in the year. Yes, shade cloth does help. I have a 40% shade cloth over the salad bar table. There are times if the temps are too high, I will move my small container plants under the cloth temporarily until the temps come down some. It’s a fine line for plants. They need sunlight but not too much heat.

You are very welcome Mr Tharp. We are so glad our videos have helped y’all. The journey of grief after the loss of a child is extremely difficult and painful. I pray for you and your wife as you strive to reach your “New Normal”. We will see our children again in paradise. Peace to you and your wife in the days ahead. Enjoy your garden this fall.
      Hollis 🙏❤️

I am thinking I need to redesign my garden… I am going to be 72 in November. Having containers at a counter height would be so convenient for me!

For the first time this year I planted a lot in containers. Once you drill drainage hole and fill them up or is much easier. They do need more water than my plants in the ground though. They dry out quickly in the heat.
