This book contains my first inking work, which started (unfortunately) right before the comic book market collapsed. You can see in the video one of the original pages from Night Thrasher I supplied as an extra for this book. From Marvel I jumped to Dark Horse on the Species mini series and then on to teaching. In 2001, I switched gears and wrote "Hal Foster: Prince of Illustrators," "James Bama: American Realist," and co-edited/edited the first 18 volumes of the Prince Valiant reprint series from Fantagraphics (and the P.V. Studio Edition). A special shout out to Rick Magyar and Brian Murray for helping me refine my inking skills, and especially to Rick for recommending me to Editor Rob Tokar for my first assignment in New Warriors Annual #4!!!
And you did phenomenal work. Crazy to think about the collapse and where we are now.

Omar don’t worry about your bias showing in your videos, you make every omnibus sound like you love it. Your basically like a used car salesman for Omnis, who can make you want to buy every omnibus you present. Also you should just do an hour long video on this omnibus since new warriors means so much to you. I know we would love to see you do it.

Man this is my childhood right here...one of my favorite books when I was in elementary school although I dropped it during the crossover because I couldn't afford all the tie ins with the other books I was buying. I remember preferring Bagley but Robertson killed it on his issues here. I wasn't planning on picking this up, but you took me back and I have to have this now. Thanks Omar!
Ugh!! Ok, I need to buy the vol 1 reprint so my spines match. It's the ONLY title I will do it for.
This is one of my favorite titles. You actually see these heroes grow up. They dealt with pretty real life situations.
Nothing but the Truth and Time and Time Again were the powerhouse stories that made this title. However, I still want to see Future Shock collected!!

Thank you Omar for being a big driver in getting this book not just in collected format but in Omni no less! 14 years ago i was emailing DG asking him about the chances of NW material being reprinted in paperback (which was good enough for me). While he was gracious in actually responding, we did not know of anything until a few years later, when we got the first NW classic TP editions (which i was happy about). Now we have 2 omnis!
Everything you said in this video about NW and its creators is 100% my thoughts as well. A hugely important and seminal book during my younger days and one i still cherish today. Funny I rebought Vol 1 for spine consistency (only did it for NW) and they go ahead and change it anyway LOL oh well! If I knew you in high school I would have been happy to nerd out about NW every month as I was picking it up off the stands. THANK YOU AGAIN my NW brother!
At long last, and kudos and thank you for shepherding this one to fruition, Omar. I really, really hope we start seeing some Vol. 3s announced for several of these series that have been stalled at their second volumes (New Mutants, Excalibur, and Doctor Strange) since their various releases this year.
Doctor strange sorcerer supreme volume 3 came out earlier this year
@@nivekleveb8872 I was referring to the adjectiveless Doctor Strange series that just closed out his Silver Age material with Vol. 2 and would begin collecting the Bronze Age with Vol. 3.
@@nextimaginaut gotcha, I wonder if they won't just do that as Doctor Strange Master of the Mystic Arts with a new volume 1, since the Marvel Premiere issues following the end of the original series lead into Master of the Mystic Arts. I'm only wondering that since they did Sorcerer Supreme as it own set of volumes...they could do all of MoMA in 2-3 volumes (since a lot of MoMA came out during the 17 page era) and include Into Shamballa, Triumph and Torment (I know it came out during the sorcerer supreme run but they didn't include it in those Omnis) and the Strange Tales series that came out between MoMA and SS. I would love to see that whole run collected

So happy to finally be able to get this after all the delays. I need more New Warriors! Now if we can just get Marvel to consider a Darkhawk Omnibus!
Happy as a pig in %#&! that this came out. Got my copy a few days ago. Hopefully they do a Vol 3 to finish off Vol 1. Maybe even include the Vol 2 series?
With that said I am unhappy with the mapping. That Justice mini-series should have been in here. Also the Night Thrasher series and Nova v2 series should have been included in here, not just the Time and Time Again issues. Fabian was writing both those series as well and left those titles when he left the New Warriors. It was a mini franchise while he was doing the books. Maybe hopefully Marvel is planning something for this material. A New Warriors Companion Omnibus would be great... .
You make every book feel epic so don't ever worry about showing us what is really exciting to you!!

I can't believe how long this took to get here, I pre-ordered it back in January!! Yes I would get a volume 3, as long as it gets to us sooner.

I just need the one more volume for New Warriors to finish the one and only good run of New Warriors. So everyone go buy this. I loved this series. I need volume 3.

I would 100% pick up a vol 3 just to have the complete run. I don't think it'll happen. I think the many, many delays might have been due to low pre-order numbers but I hope I'm wrong.
The best part of this is you get to see the evolution of Darick Robertson's artwork which made him a top artist by the time his run was done and then would go on to wow in Transmetropolitan and the Boys. I loved this series especially how they developed Nova as well as his relationship with Namorita (which would eventually be destroyed by Erik Larsen and I have never forgiven him for that). I recommend giving this omni a try. Where I disagree is the need for a v3 as it got bad after Nicieza left. I'm fine for waiting for the end as an Epic.

I finally finished your review, excellent. When I returned to collecting, I assumed the original run was already collected and sold out. I was asking and wondering where to find them. I am very happy to have the reprint of Vol.1 and this. I anticipate by mid Spring, you'll "Suit Up" to announce Vol.3 for Summer 2024.

Funny how Omar zoomed in to show New Mutants, but right next to it is Excalibur, for which they kept the original logo for volume 2.

Does this omnibus include the short story about Silhouette asking Mister Fantastic for permission to keep using her Unstable Molecule Fabric costume after finding out the Wayne Foundation stole Reed's UMF designs?
I always felt it was minor details like this that made the characters feel like real people.

Remember getting 27 & 28 in a grab bag. These were my first ever issues of New Warriors. Then went back and bought them all. One of my all time titles. Also wrote an essay about Fabian in High School.
Between the characters and some of the stories you described, if these stories came out today, the book would be accused of being “woke” or pushing “an agenda”. Back then, we just accepted them as good writers trying to tell good stories.
We “accepted” them as good writers trying to tell a good story because they were. They do not compare in the slightest to modern Marvel.

@@jamesleblanc7437 Yup. This was a pretty lousy take from this individual. I understand the sentiment where folks want to conflate "woke" with being political/ progressive but that's hardly the same. People don't mind political stories if they do one of the following. One is explore both sides of an issue. Not everything in life is black and white. There does exist moral shades of grey. Arcane is an excellent example of this because the series actually took the time to explore the Undercity and the Piltover's upper side well. It didn't say that the Undercity was innocent or right and same with the Upper city.
In the CB realm, Denny O'Neil's Green Arrow and Green Lantern team up is an amazing example. Oliver Queen is a liberal where Hal was conservative. Denny, while very left leaning, took the care to explore both their perspectives, showcasing where Oliver Queen was right but also wrong and the same with Hal. And shows how IN SPITE of their differences they cooperated to save/ help folks.
The second way is to have it be one sided but on values that everyone can agree with. For example, in the Teen Titans episode where the Titans are in space, the group encounter a space cop who is racist towards Starfire. We have an excellent conversation between Starfire and Cyborg who talk about how folks will judge based on what is outside rather who they are as a character. AND then we have an amazing payoff where Starfire says she has nothing to prove to the cop and that she isn't going to sink to his level.
This shows that Starfire has every justifable reason to hate the cop but won't because she is a hero; a better person. Those are lessons folks can actively learn from; that yes predjuice does exist, racism still exists. But you don't have to let it define you or consume you in hatred. Be the better person. Judge individuals on the "content of their character" as MLK used to say.
@@Avarn388 The GL/GA is always the perfect example. We all know O’Neil sympathized more with Oliver politically, but Hal was never written as the heel or worse as immoral. Both men were portrayed as noble; not for what they thought, but for what they DID.

Just received my New Warriors vol 2 Omarnibus
I was very discouraged when I fist googled the covers for the issues included. The art looked so awful to me, but looking at the actual inside artwork, it's actually not bad, it's not Mark Bagley, but it looks good. I will be getting this 100% 😊.
I would have skipped mentioning the Hellions. I recently read that story in X-Men, but if this Omni had been released when it was first supposed to come out, I would had been upset about the spoiler.

I actually like the spines to look different like the x-men ones I mean , onslaught, fatal attractions, mutant massacre all look different & it looks good
Yeah it used to really bug me but I'm getting used to it and I try to appreciate the differences
@@josephpetersen1728 I wanted all the spines to match wen I first started but about a year in I started to dislike having a bunch of the same exact spine once the collection grew . Now I like the designs to be different as long as the logo is consistent

I got all the X-omnis and now I'm considering venturing into another pursuit - SO.........fans, friends, minties - is NEW WARRIORS OMNIS 1-2 the way I should go? Or, is there another Marvel Omni set I should consider above it?

It's top tier collections. Think about those collector editions video games and movies. There are trades available.
I mean they are oversized and collect more issues. But I agree as much as I love my Ultimate Spider-Man vol 1 they are far too expensive to buy in bulk for me. Also does every comic I own need to be oversized. Nope. Just my favourites. In my eyes comics are for reading primarily, the look and size if the book come second. Admittedly do struggle to read omni or Compendium in bed which is partly why I get more trades or OHC'S. Still I love owning the 6 omnibus I have in my collection😁
Just cannot justify spending £70 or more on one book. I was brought up on the value of money with a £1 a week pocket money and never had massive amounts of money in our family. Which is why I think the way I do.
Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge other readers and happy they can actually read the books in the format of their choice. We are living in the golden age of collections, my wallet can attest.😂 My goal one day is to have all of ASM in some format on my shelves(when I get some)😄
Just Kinda wish that other formats like trades got more of a spotlight then they do, probably controversial but feel at times omnibus seem to be the only format people talk about. I sometimes get a vibe off certain people in the community feel other formats are inferior(Not Omar)
I still love watching Omar's overviews on omnibus, if I see something I like, gives me the incentive to pick it up in epic collections or another format. Or if someone buys me a omni then I ain't going to refuse ha ha.
Epic collections are good for a more budget friendly collector. They collect early material up to 90s/early noughts and Modern epics will collect more Recent material.
@@elvaquerovaquero5243 other comic books the same size using the same amount of paper and same amount of printing are half the price. It’s not a justifiable price at all.
I always liked the New Warriors, but never developed a taste for Speedball. That character just always seemed out of place, and a bit of a joke, to me. I think the team would have been better if they had left Speedball off the roster.
Is there a reason Dagger is separated from Cloak during this time?
She dip her toes in the water of joining. Was part of the Time and Time Again crossover.
