My favourite Mercedes campervan conversion. Alphavan

  • The Alphavan wins my prize for being my favourite Mercedes campervan conversion. What I like is its length and height - it makes the most of the largest Sprinter model on the market. However its star pint is the rear loading area which can be used as a second bedroom or for storage. The fixed bed is above this area and as such gives a lot of headroom. The vehicle is gas free, cooking via electricity and heating via diesel.
    I live in a motorhome full time and travel around Europe in it. I spend most of my time in Poland, Germany and Italy. Vanlife is my life.
    In my RUclips channel, I present reviews of recreational vehicles. Here you will find campervans and motorhomes from the cheapest camper vans to the most expensive luxury liners, from various companies including Hobby, Hymer, Carthago, Westfalia, Wingamm, La Strada, Frankia, Wavecamper, Maurer, Dreamer, Itineo, Rapido, Clever Vans, Pössl, Bürstner, Niesmann Bischoff, Action Mobil, Reisemobil Manufaktur, Robeta, Trigano, Challenger, EuraMobil, Karmann Mobil, Laika, Forster, Mobilvetta Design, Affinity, Globe Traveller, Benimar, Roller Team, Adria, Bocklet, Woelcke,Tourne, Megamobil, VW, Mercedes, CS, Renault, Ford, Fiat, Carado, Sunlight, Baileys, Chausson, Balcamp, Knaus, Weinsberg, Murvi, Bliss, Mitsubishi, Woelcke, Reisemobile Bürow, Holzmobil, Giotti Line, Florium, Fleurette, Ahorn, Westfalia, Space Camper, Orange Work, Concorde, Womondo, Protec, Auto Sleeper, Dethleffs, Ilusion, Gehocab, Malibu, Pilote, Wild Ax, Vantage, Bresler, Tom's Fahrzeugtechnik, Morelo, Swift, Carado and others.
    I do this by regularly attending trade events such as CMT Stuttgart, Abenteuer und Allrad, Caravan Salon Dusseldorf, Warsaw Caravan and Camping Show and sometimes others.
    I cover equipment, including 12v electrical equipment and talk a lot about lithium batteries.
    I also show some of the places I have visited in Europe in my own motorhome, as well as the places you can stay at! I try to give as much coverage as I can to official campsites and free places which I use for overnighting. Therefore you can find here the aire or stellplatz that you are possibly looking for.

    Don’t fancy the underneath bed although I suppose it’s just an option. The main bed seems a bit high and close to the ceiling for me, maybe, although the storage underneath would be hard to access if it was much lower and there is air con so it shouldn’t get stuffy. Something I’d have to think about. Lots of lovely design ideas and I think not relying on gas for cooking is going to become more common - already seen using induction jobs in some caravans and Japanese mini campers. Happy to applaud any design that isn’t just a variation on the standard ones.
    I’ll take two.

    As a relatively short dude, I'd prefer a 50cm shorter gararge (iit would still be huge) and a transverse bed - to get an extra couple of feet in the living area and fit in a better bathroom.
    But the idea of a genuinely big useable garage/second bedroom is brilliant.
    The design language and tech interface...absolutely fantastic.
    Great vehicle.

    Gorgeous. Very clean and efficient looking. No clutter or pieces included just for looks. The added length seems to add some usable space. The overhead in the bed area doesn’t look overly generous but that garage in the back looks like it could accommodate a couple of kayaks.

    Love the van except for the induction hob, when winter comes and you can't charge the batteries, it will be all but useless.
    Perhaps the option of both induction and gas would be the answer, it's always good to have a backup.

  • @lutomson3496
    @lutomson3496 2 года назад +4

    Nice but the bed should go up so you can use the lower area for work during the day if you need like the winnebago revel does also they could have had a fold out shelf on the cabinet that faces out side sliding door so you can cook outside with a detachable cooktop to do so either butane propane or induction that refer location cant be used when the ladder is down a swing away tv and move the refer up to where the tv is to access depending on the price not a bad rig

      As the engineering target of the displayed Alphavan with rear wheel drive was to stay below the magical 3,5t limit, we absolutely focus on lightweight design for the complete furniture. The new material "Vunder Tech" allows us to save up to 50% of weight as compared to traditional materials. Furthermore, the noise emission of everything we put in the rear of the Alphavan during driving is of uttermost importance to us. From both points of view a bed that can be lowered was not the perfect fit for us and we believe that the space of the current layout together with the calm driving experience is a sweet spot.

    Maybe my favorite too. BUT, maybe a little long for offroad. Is it front wheel, rear wheel or 4 wheel drive? What is payload? Have seen someone who regrets using only battery operation. Someone has to change the alternator. And just one drain in the shower? But it was really cool!

    • @alphavan2949
      @alphavan2949 2 года назад +4

      The displayed van is a rear-wheel drive version. A 4x4 version would be about 12cm higher. Of course, the rear overhang needs to be carefully regarded when going for an offroad drive. The vehicle displayed has a gross vehicle weight of 3.5t, the 4x4 version would be a 4.1t version.

      The bed in the rear garage / FlexPort in the displayed van does not have windows, correct. For ventilation the door to the front would have to be left open. So far, the customers mainly wanted to have this space as a add-on sleeing space for special occasions / guests and rather focussed on a safe and closed storage room. But starting next year we will have a solution with different windows for the rear garage as the next customers requested such a solution.
