Cornette just experienced The Dream Effect. Even when you want to dislike him there's something that draws you in.
It was obvious he would like Patrick/Velveteen because his character actually LOOKS like a star. They're not using his generic name, he doesn't look like anyone else on the roster.
The thing about Velveteen's pants? I mean, I think having them there fits his gimmick. You never know if he's going to have a wardrobe malfunction and go running out of there.

I don't know how many people on this planet could make this gimmick work like the Velveteen Dream can. But it ain't many! The vast majority of the population would look completely ridiculous in the Dreams attire.

I knew Jim didn't know anything about the Dream because everytime he reviews a takeover he always skips Dreams matches. Now he should go back and watch his other matches

OffLeatherWings he only watched 3 most voted matches on twitter per takeover, usually the nxt match, the non title match and the woman match got chosen so Dream’s matches got skipped.
Passose man, even then Dream usually has one of the best 3 matches at a Takeover
When velveteen hits his late 20s/early 30s I can see him as a huge star when he gets more experience he’s got that special something that always catches your eye even now at 23-24. He can be an absolutely huge star within a few years if they don’t ruin him.
Dream really does have a chance at being one of the all-time greats if he stays healthy and continues to improve and adapt as he has the past 2-3 years.

wrestlers,commentators,bookers all must do a ton of research on jim cornette, a lot of tape watching,interview listening, or reach out to him personally because he gets it nd he will make you better if taking advice from him... He is a phenomenal commentator...Hes great,
I like listening to his analysis. He's got a great mind on the balance between telling an in-ring story for the fans and making the in-ring action a believable athletic contest.

AEW is banking on the support of the next generation of fans. In a sense so is NXT. The new generation just wants to see cool shit and have it mean something. Quicker if not instant gratification. The problem is, building interest by delaying gratification is the tried and true method of storytelling (quality movies and shows, and the best of the best wrestling matches and rivalries). Really curious to see if AEW adjust over time or sticks with the approach they use.
Love The Dream, been watching for around 30 years and he could have worked in any of those decades. He is definatley one for the future.
He's a solid evolution of the Gorgeous George - Adrian Street character.
He should go to NJPW.

They should totally pitch the break! Half of the time, I don't even notice that the commercials are coming up and then.......SNAP, the match cuts out and I have no edge of the seat incentive to keep watching.

The Dream has one of those gimmicks where you go "wtf?" upon first seeing it. Then you get into a little bit because he's a great performer and his matches are always good if not great.
To me, Dream has found that "Goldilocks" zone where his eccentricities are brought right up to edge of naughtiness without stepping over. AEW's Sonny Kiss still needs to find that zone. If he can find it, then Cody and Co. have THEIR Velveteen Dream.

Also a match or two I think Jim would enjoy would be Velveteen Dream’s matches with Aleister Black and Tomasso Ciampa at the NXT War Games shows if he gets the chance.
Here's the thing Corny. Roddy Strong (despite how good his wrestling is), will never be anything more than a midcarder when he gets called up to the main roster. And this is not 2005...this is the post-Punk/Bryan/AJ WWE. He doesn't have the "they buried me cause I'm a indy guy" excuse. The truth is, I've watched Roddy for 15 years and he's never inspired me. Just doesn't have the IT factor. I said that about Davey too when he won the ROH title in 2011 & everyone was gushing about how he's the next Tyler Black. And I've been right.
Velveteen Dream on the other hand, will be a big star. Not just cause he's a in-house, WWE-created product, but cause you can sense his star power if he walks into a room.
Makenko? Yes. Benoit? Nah. Benoit, despite his lack of traditional charisma, had a sort of hair-raising intensity that's hard to explain.
It didn't matter anymore. Nxt is a 3rd brand live,its on the same level now.

Also the first part is still true. Now more than ever, with how WWE''s booking these guys. Roedrick Strong will never be anything more than a hand in the main roster, if he even gets called up.

I like that WWE are taking their time with Dream, he's got the intangibles to be a star in a few years but he has a lot of work to do yet.
Patrick Clark is either gay/bi in real life or he's a phenomenal actor at playing a flamboyant, gay/bi wrestler. His talk, mannerisms, style is all very flashy, feminine. Not saying he's not good, just that's why I see and hear!

Was a big fan of Roddy from his old Generation Next days on. He’s never been great with promos, but Roddy - and a few other ROH guys - improved a ton on the mic during that period Cornette was working there. I dunno who was responsible, but I always thought that was an underrated aspect of Cornette’s ROH run.

I love Dream because he’s so flamboyant and arrogant. Reminds me a bit of HBK and Macho Man. I like that he’s arrogant because that’s more interesting and believable than so many faces that have such fake and phony confidence. Also he’s amazing in the ring without doing so many floppy flip stuff.

Adam Cole is the smallest guy in UE and he's the main champ. I just can't take him as a credible world champion at his height and soft physique. Roderick looks more like a world champ of the group. Cole makes Finn Balor look big.
Jim would prolly love for the old nwa broadcasts that would end as the featured match was counting down. It's exactly what he is saying. The Windham flair 60 min match that ended two minutes before the time limit pissed alot of ppl off. Me being 13 was very one of them
Velveteen Dream to me could be a fantastic heel in the same vein as an Adrian Street, Rick Rude, type. He's got charisma for days, crazy athletic, and can go in the ring. To me, with his gimmick, he fits more as the "chicken-shit heel" type. Dude can be one of the best heels in pro wrestling in the future.

@@christopherclinton8631 Its not really a monopoly though. WWE is lumped in with all media creators and entertainment companies, ranging from theatres to television and movie studios. Even from a wrestling promotion perspective they are not preventing any other company from purchasing airtime.

I didn't care much for this match. It was too short, and I feel like there wasn't enough tension or drama, given the circumstances with the Undisputed Era.

What I was referring to was the plot point (for lack of a better term) of the Velveteen Dream being the one final roadblock for the Undisputed Era being "draped in gold". I feel they should have dramaticized that aspect of their feud, and have it show during the match.

Dream could be a star in WWE if main roster writers understand his gimmick properly. He is not the greatest but is a really good worker can make good matches with good wrestlers. But for the main roster and their audience he could be a star with ease.

I nearly went the whole video without being annoyed at Cornette...then he says "I couldn't give a shit about the girl's match" and I lose respect for him as usual.
He didn't care about the girls' match because it was a fatal four way, and and it was just a spotfest without much storytelling. If you go back to the full episode, he said "I'd rather see any of these girls in a one on one match!" and he even put over Mia Yim.

Jim said AEW is missing big guys in their company, but the undisputed era are light weights. WWE is making them the face of NXT. Maybe the heavyweights wrestlers are about to disappear.
I don't think he meant big guys as in size, he meant big guys as in name-recognized stars. They got Cody, Mosley, and a couple others, a few with big names 20 years ago, and the rest are indie guys known to nobody who doesn't obsess on youtube
