The first time I was privy to the ceremony, I was the Production Assistant on INTO THE LIGHT, everyone's favorite 1980s 5-performance turkey! Someone else will have to refresh my memory of who (amongst a group of notably experienced ensemble folks of A Certain Age) actually performed the ritual, but I do remember knowing that while this gorgeous tradition was warming all our hearts, the stagehands were in the SM office ordering the dumpsters for Monday morning... Everybody knew, before we'd even opened. Alas, another time-honored theatrical experience!
What an awesome tradition. I pray that this pandemic ends soon and life once again returns to the theatres worldwide. Until such a time, my ghost light burns 24/7 and will remain so until this long intermission is over. Bless you.
