One of the hardest things a vet must do is force the owner to realize that the problem *is* the owner, not the pet. Mad respect for Dr. Chris to put his foot down, even though the owner is the one paying the vet bill. Praying that the owner will put her cat's need ahead of her own. The cat deserves a long life.

Very much. Some people may say I'm cruel when I don't feed my cat, especially when he constantly begs, but he gets a handful of food most mornings and I have no clue how many mice he eats. The little chonk definitely isn't *starving.* I just skip breakfast with him some days when I know he's been out all night hunting.
We live on a farm, so nearly no traffic. We don't use any rodent poisons or the like and we've got a couple of dogs that keep the area clear of anything that might want to eat my cat. He doesn't like to wander too far from the farmyard, too, so he's quite safe.

Oh my gosh, my cat is also full-figured. I've never had a cat with a weight problem until now. His weight problem just snuck up on me. He begs for food all day, and he's only happy when he's eating. He watches me eat, and will hardly let me eat in peace without feeling guilty. He camps out by his bowl, which is empty except when I feed him. Because of my insomnia, I get up several times during the night, and he wants food then too. I feed him about 1/2 cup of kibble daily and spread it throughout the day. He gained weight when I was giving him between 3/4 cup to 1 cup. He must have a slow metabolism. I'm so frustrated about it, as I want him to be healthy.

This cat is a Ragdoll. I have a mix of one.
He's an easy keeper, and he inhales his meal. He also is a low-energy cat. This means he's not climbing to the top of a tree, he'd rather lay at the bottom and watch you climb it.
I used to feed him dry food standing, but then he stopped eating and we had a real scare with him.
So we put him on a diet, he's given a diet of dry food and the measured amount of wet food that he gets twice a day.
He also howls incessantly two hours before his meals for food. I learned to ignore it except for some treats when he's quiet. It has had him lose to a healthy weight and maintain it.
It's hard, but food-oriented cats need to have a strict feeding schedule and a balanced diet.

As a vet tech of 20 years, ppl still believe that cats need to eat 24 hours a day. Two meals a day, every 12 hours, that's all they need! Wet food is better than dry food. It's more water so they stay hydrated. Dry food also increases the chance of urinary blockage and constipation.

This is terrible.. All his problems are due to his owner. The stupidity of an owner doing this to an animal is unfortunate. If she can't understand that his problem then she should not be allowed to have a pet.

There are foods on the market for weight control. This woman is acting that oooh everything is just fine, and making excuses. She is arrogant and has a disgusting attitude. She has allowed him to be spoiled. No dam reason for this. She is killing this beautiful animal!!

We used to have a food obsessed cat and a cat who liked to eat a few bites every hour. It took a long time to figure out a way to ensure both cats would eat properly. This was prior to those fancy feeding bowls that open to a specific cats collars.

My cat was 14 kg when I adopted her. I bought a medium size dog carrier so she would be less likely to break it. Also so she could turn around inside it.
She had been overfed by a previous owner, and likely fed a lot when she ended up a stray. The lady who fostered her was actually the mother of the girl who found her in a vacant lot. Poor girl called her mom in tears, begging her mom to take in one more foster, believing that this cat was pregnant and needed help. Of course mom knew she was just obese the moment she laid eyes on her but she still took her in and fostered her. She stole food from the other animals in the house.
I once had her down to 7 kg but she's crept back up to around 8.5 kg in recent years.

The cat has an addictive personality and the owner is an enabler....not a good combo...however I truly believe the owner loves her cats so very much 😥

My cat was overweight due to free feeding, swapped her to automatic portion controlled feeding and now she’s the perfect weight… and bonus no more vomiting from eating too much too quickly.

My cats love food but they also work well with the routine of feedings. They don't really beg and know that it's not time to eat until my husband or I announce it. (They do get treats as rewards but not a lot.) I definitely relate to Rosalie's obsession with her cats though, to a much lesser extent.

Those deep, narrow bowls aren’t recommended for cats due to overstimulation of their whiskers when they hit the sides.

Over feeding your pet I'm sorry isn't a good idea because it's not healthy. It's like someone over eating junk food, too much pop, too much take out good. Moderation is the word not too much and not too late.
