    • @irisgallati
      @irisgallati 3 месяца назад +11

      There actually is a fundraiser on the shelter 's website. Maybe it is too much for a shelter to admin two or 3 income sources. And it is also a question of transparency: imagine, you set a total goal of 8000 as they did here. Now, either you part it in 2x 3000 + 1 x 1500 On different fundraising platforms. If people think there is only 1500 or 3000 to fund, and the goal of the 1500 has been reached easily, they stop donating and sharing. And so, you won't get all, but only part the necessary money, which means amputation.
      But you can't put the total goal of 8000 pounds on all 3 platforms, because people would start asking questions about where 3x 8000 so total 24000 bugs go, if there are only 1x 8000 needed.
      Plus, maybe they wanted to increase local awareness for their charity/shelter and therefore ran the donations via their own website. You have to imagine, as sad as it sounds, there is concurrence between the shelters. All of them are filled and crammed till under the roof, and all of them want the best potential new owners for rehomeing their pets so there is space to rescue the sadly never-ending stream of new dumped pets....
      So yes, they need to create awareness and this must have been a reason, why Dr. Scott is the new Patron of this charity.

      @irisgallati this makes sense. As an Alaskan, I appreciate Dr. Scott's recommendation to support our local shelters & rescues if donating to Amber's cause isn't possible. Vet costs are astronomical here in the states as well, so I am supporting locally more substantially with a small donation to these special cases when I can. $5 or $10 isn't much on it's own, but if everyone gives a little, it adds up fast.

    • @irisgallati
      @irisgallati 3 месяца назад

      @@elsiestormont1366 yes, you are right! A little from everyone adds up to a lot and goes a long way.
      Literally brings little happy tears to my eyes what you are doing for the Alaskan pets in need.😇😘 Thank you a lot!
      I asked Dr. Scott in his pinned comment above, whether the money of the "thanks-donations" under this video go towards Amber's surgery aswell. Let's hope he will see it and find time to answer.
      Sending you all the best wishes over to Alaska from Switzerland!😊

    Amber is lovely and it’s been good to see the first part of her story and just shows how caring and compassionate the staff at the rescue centre are in that they want to give Amber the best possible chance of being a normal dog with four healthy legs even though that’ll take a lot of work and money rather than just going straight for perhaps the easier / cheaper option of amputation. The animals welfare is at the forefront of things. The couple that have adopted Amber despite her disability and the issues treating this will have are fabulous people 👏🏻❤ Really looking forward to seeing part two of Ambers story and her hopefully getting her surgery and living the great life she deserves 🐶❤

    I love Dr.Scott but many pet owners are finding about the huge cost of taking care of our pet family. In January2023 I took my cat to my vet. She had developed a mamarry "bump." The decision was to remove the bump,hysterectomy, total removal of mammary glands. This cost me about $4000 US dollars. One year later I had to go back because the mammary bump had returned. Upon examination, the cancer had metasized to the lungs. Within a week my gorgeous cat passed away. THE HIGH COST OF VETERINARY CARE HAS BECOJE A EMERGENCY UNTO ITSELF. I have 4 cats left. I will take care of them to the best of my ability but after that I will stop. The veterinary prices are just crazy and we can longer have pets.

    • @Trth1707

      I agree, we used to have pet insurance but it was very expensive, now we self insure by putting an amount in a bank account only for pet medical, we also put the money from bottle recycling into that account, it helps. A lot of vet drugs are the same as human ask for a script and fill att human pharmacy or vet pharmacy online often a lot cheaper than getting it from vet, they charge for the script.Remember they are not helped by government like human doctors and have a lot of overheads, cost of living hitting everyone.

      I'm in the U.S. and it's like that in every country. There's also a shortage of Veterinarians so that further complicates things. Since COVID the cost of items have gone up including veterinary supplies. Items have started to come down in cost but it hasn't been passed on to consumers, very large businesses are just taking in more profits for the President, CEO, CFO etc. instead of coming off the prices. It's hard for everyone and so unfair to the least of these...dogs and cats.

    Really interesting video to see the start of beautiful Ambers story. She’s got so much energy and enthusiasm for life it’s sad she’s limited by her leg and in pain 😢. It’s really hard if people have to give up an animal just because of money and I guess this is why pet insurance is so important to cover things like this, but insurance is not cheap and it’s understandable that some people can’t afford it and just hope nothing serious happens to their pet. Absolutely lovely that the new owners were willing to take Amber on knowing the long and tough road they are going to face with her treatment 👏🏻. They and all the staff at NCAR looking after Amber and all the other animals in their care are wonderful people 👏🏻❤️. Looking forward to seeing part two and Ambers progress on her journey and hopefully a healthy, happy and pain free new life she deserves 🐶❤️

    • @Wisepati
      @Wisepati 3 месяца назад +2

      Yes, they do but remember that dogs carry 60% of their weight on the front legs and when you remove one front leg that one leg takes 60% of the weight. They are much more prone to injuries later in life in the front leg remaining. Removing a back leg is less traumatic because they don’t carry as much weight.

    Or do you actually do this?❤

    • @irisgallati
      @irisgallati 3 месяца назад

      He might already be helping out the charity in donating his knowledge and skilled hands. And as far as I have read, he is indeed patroning the local charity which helped Amber.
      Vets do not earn as much money as one might be tempted to think, just because they have a doctors title.
      Fresh off University, a vet in Switzerland maybe earns ~3000.
      Me however, I used to get 5000, just for office work, and NO university degree needed, just a free 3 year apprenticeship, and obviously NO university fees to pay!
      And in Switzerland, wages are very high, so elsewhere, they might be even lower!
      So let's say, Scott gained 5000 a month aswell (age and experience), he would have to put two monthly wages aside just to go bankrupt himself and fund surgery for one dog. Imagine, he would have to do this for every dog! Just not possible.

      Maybe this could be an option for you aswell. Thank you in advance.

    Hello Dr. Scott,
    I have a question regarding my dog, Luna. I’m asking you because I trust your advise. Luna has torn her crucial ligament completely. She has been seen by our vet and also an orthopedic surgeon. They said her only fix is to have TPLO surgery. We are seniors on a limited income so the $6,000 surgery is not an option for us. I have considered a knee brace but my vet says they don’t work. The only option they are giving me is surgery. Do you have any suggestions on another treatment option we could consider. We really don’t want to put her down. She is 3 years old with lots of energy. She was a rescue who was caged her first year of life. Not sure if that contributed to this. She also has arthritis in that knee. She is a Lab and weighs around 73 lbs. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you ❤

      Hi there
      You can donate directly to Amber's surgery as follows:
      1.
      Use the link in the video description and it will lead you to the main page of the charity.
      (I can't post the video link here, because RUclips would then delete my comment.)
      2. On the top right, there is the "3 bars symbol".
      Click on it.
      This opens the website's navigation.
      3. Scroll through the navigation and you will find the "Dr. Scott and Amber" point.
      Click onto this and the project description page will open.
      4. After having read it all, you can then click the orange button "Donate now".
      Hope it helped, and if yes, thanks very much for your contribution, how ever little it may be. 😘

    Vet care, like everything else has become so expensive! But where it hurts the most is when people want to do the right thing and spay/neuter their pets, but prices went from $60 for a dog to $200! A little dog now already cost you over $100! And thats at a LOW COST spay/neuter clinic! Or when you have to pay over $100 just to walk in the door at the vet for mandatory tests. I had to result in doing my own shots and having rabies done at events and animal shelters; which is only good for 1 year instead of 3, but still cheaper!

    • @irisgallati
      @irisgallati 3 месяца назад +2

      If one does not have the 150 extra money for neutering and spaying, how are they going to get together the money for food, leash, harnesses, basket, blanket, poobags, vaccinations....
      Some could easily cut down on cigarettes and alcohol, that is literally 300 per month, if one is a regular smoker/drinker. But for this money, one can buy a lot of dog food. There's enough stories, where homeless people came off drugs, fags and alcohol, because they set their priorities right and spend the money for the dog. If even people in such big poverty can do it, why should people who still have a home, not be able to do this?
      Even in Indonesia, a ROAD-SIDE- surgery to spay/castrate costs 30 Dollars, so if the vet has to run a practise with nurses, x ray, ultrasound, and rent to pay, 200 isn't much at all! And the dog's size does not matter a lot, since there's a certain amount of steps the vet needs to do with any animal to end up with an infertile dog/cat.

    Why not form a Veterinary National Health Service, similar to the services available for the people? Taxes may go up, but at least every animal will be properly cared for. This would help relieve the burden of abandoned animals.

      The rescues are also getting publicity. Smaller rescues like this one (I used to live near this one) need all the help they can get to get their name out there, get funds in general, and advertise the animals available.

    I am unsure how to donate for Amber's surgery specifically. The link to the Rescue Centre appears to be for general donations to the Centre. If I donate through that link, will the donation be applied to Amber's surgery? Or is the right method to donate through the Super Thanks button for this video?

    amputation is far less expensive than reparative surgery and most dogs recover faster

    • @irisgallati
      @irisgallati 2 месяца назад

      Might be, but in this case, Amber is believed to be a Malinois, which are very likely to suffer from elbow and hip displasia.
      Imagine, the leg had been amputated, this would have meant that the leftover leg would have had to take all herr weight and would have aged way faster, which could have shortened her life drasmatically. This needs to be taken into consideration aswell!

    • @RhondaDavis-e4m
      @RhondaDavis-e4m 3 месяца назад +1

      Cause they have expensive wants. My vet is expensive due to building a new house. $3300.00 for my cat that was attacked by dogs running loose.

      @@RhondaDavis-e4m No, vet school costs the same as medical school. No grants to speak of, student loans are expensive, then there's the cost of an office, staff, taxes, supplies, etc.. Not to mention the cost of living, they pay the same rents as we do. Small wonder so many vets end up committing suicide.

    There are healthy, young, single, migrants that don't work. Tens of thousands of them. They are given flats, food, healthcare, clothes, gas and electricity paid. Quite a few are involved in crime. How about taking that money, tell those men to get a job or leave, and pay for the very expensive operations for the animals instead of vets having to beg for donations.

      @@ingonowack3839 no, it is the truth. If someone does not want to hear this, their problem, it is not ok to be silk gloved with people and because they don't understand it, they buy an animal that has to suffer again, before it is rescued.
      Man muss lernen, dass man der bessere Tierfreund ist, wenn man nein sagt, wenn man dem Tier nicht gerecht wird. Dieses Wishi-Washi haben wir nun seit 5 Jahren (Corona) mindestens, weil jeder einen Hund wollte, plötzlich aber Sparmassnahmen und Jobverlust, und zack, kein Geld mehr für den Hund.... Und genutzt hats nix! Es gibt Mittel und Wege, einem Tier nahe zu sein, auch wenn man kein eigenes haben kann/darf/sollte. Da drann ist nichts schamlos.
      Mache ich jede Ferien, dass ich auf eine Katze schaue, wenn die Besitzer in die Ferien gehen oder einmal 3 Monate lang ins Krankenhaus mussten! Ich habe die Zeit mit dem Tier, es geht ihm gut, und die Besitzer sind entlastet. Was will man mehr? Katzensittimg, Hundespaziergänge, Reitbeteiligung. Für alle 3 häufigsten Tierarten, die unsere Haustiere sind, gibt es Mittel und Wege!
      In Afrika gibt es das Sprichwort:
      Es braucht ein GANZES Dorf, um ein Kind zu erziehen.
      Ein Tier ist in vielerlei Hinsicht wie ein Kind, manchmal sogar Kinder-Ersatz. Es macht Kack, macht mal etwas kaputt, braucht Essen, Arzt, Erziehung und Schule, Zahnpflege, ein Bett, manchmal ein Bad, Fellpflege, Futter, Wasser, Kleider (Regenmantel), Schuhe (Hufschmied beim Pferd), Impfungen....
      Bei den Kindern haben es die Afrikaner schon längst begriffen, warum kriegen wir reichen Westeuropäer das bei den Tieren nicht zu Stande?!?
