What an incredible moment in time this was. My first longtail tuna!!!
The odds of that little school of tuna coming so close for me to cast at them. To then getting a topwater eat from one. A 25 minute fight later on a bass rod and it was landed. Exactly 1 meter, and weighed 8.4kg.
This memory and the video behind it will be with me for life!!

I have NEVER seen such a meritorious capture on such light tackle from the rocks. Ninety Nine out of a Hundred anglers would have either been spooled, broken or chaffed off. The manner in how you managed your rod and reel by turning the fish to where you wanted to play it out and change direction to suit you was just amazing. Josh I have said it before but your productions and skills are amazing. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video.

I've watched a lot of fishing videos, but never any as exciting as this. This was a proper battle with smart play. Outgunned, Smarts vs Braun. Absolutely magic stuff mate.
Awesome capture mate. A memory that will last a life time. I am 61 now and still remember when I caught a 72Kg yellow fin tuna off the rocks at the Blow Hole at Kiama, back in the day when you could catch them off the rocks. I still remember that moment to this day like it was yesterday.
One thing I would like to see you do thought Josh is start wearing a life jacket and proper rock fishing shoes when fishing from the rocks.

if i had a time machine i would go back in time just to fish big stuff out of the rocks its kinda sad how my uncle used to catch octopus same size as him like 30 years ago just inshore now when i go to that place its just some small saddled breams .

Insane work
A lot of people don't realize that a 1m fish weighing 8.4kg is very doable on 15lb (6.8kg) line. your reel has ~10kg of drag and the line braking strain is close to what the fish weighs, it was differently push right to its limit. With big fish like this you need to play them out make them tired before you try to put major pressure to bring them close to shore. Your scrambling across the rocks was perfect keeping in line with the fish. Its way harder from shore contending with nasty rocks and bottom than from a boat where you can position better and landing the fish is easier.
A amazing catch and differently a fish off the bucket list well done!.

You kid, can fish ! I love it the light gear is what makes it such a great challenge. I not long ago caught an 8.5ft bullshark on a tld 25 size reel with 30lb braid and 90lb wire took me down to the backing and took 2 hours but Ill never forget it.

Luck counts Mr Josh. But we can't deny the skill it takes to make the most of that luck. I remember the 71 cm steelhead trout I landed on #6 line loaded on a 63 cm ice rod. I needed some luck on that one...and not to make a mistake. That was some fine angling you did there. 👌
