- A farm in upstate New York is dedicated to addressing the painful history of farmwork to Black people in the US, while also growing fresh vegetables and community surrounding it. The Laura Flanders Show visited Soul Fire Farm this winter.
i so wish i could see more farming videos from diverse groups, so far the most i can find is those of non-minorities. This is not a slam on those individuals, but me being a African American i would love to know other minorities experiences in rural areas and how do they navigate possible being the only minorities in a given area. This is a lifestyle i so want to take part in, but my safety and that of my family is of the upmost concern.
Talk to Leah Penniman of SoulFire Farm about this issue. Qrite her or call, shes great. Yes indeed Its a mixed bag but Together we build safety in America.
Together we grow Good Food. People grow to trust you over time as you keep your word and deliver what you say you will... we can always become part of the community on our Merits, if they aren't wickedly unamerican and racist and against diversity and our mixed reality as a nation.
We belong. We built this country..!...
So believe,Gods love will protect you...AND you are also right to be cautious. But country folk love good music & good hard work, trucks and beers and dancing and laughs and hunting and fishing... Family gatherings & good BBQ... so we build friendships and find common ground. God Bless You!

Guys, band together as a group and get a federal grant and take those skills and invest together in Africa adding another market.
Africa needs your farming skills.
Besides, grow Medical Marijuana /Cannabis /Hemp and CBD products.
Diversify and work with African American Marijuana dispensers.
That industry can save you and we African Americans can support you. Talk you Obama have him connect you with Africa. Africa is the richest land in the world... but it's still underdeveloped.
connect with Albany Free School who were gifted with land in Grafton NY near Grafton Peace Pagoda which my Uncle Hank Hazelton gave. He was a lifetime advocate for Native Americans especially Akwesasne Mohawks and would have wanted all the children in these lands learning together on the land he stewarded. He did not believe one individual or group could "own" land. That capitalistic model is killing the living earth. Natives need to be invited to return to touching and being nourished by their ancestral homelands. Connect. Urban peoples and Rural together-like Fresh Tracks does (Children and Nature Network which brings Native and p.o.c. youth leaders together) ).
Uncle Henry never knew he had a Great Nephew who is tribal enrolled Alaskan Native-Koyukon Athabascan who is succeeding, being of service and also named after him. Indigenous people need to be included. Check out SEARCH farm outside Aurora, NY which is first homelands now owned by Cayuga Nation just recently -which George Washington (aka Mr Village Destroyer/Slaughter of humans/Slave Owner/Richest Man in Colonies as he was a Land Surveyor&Land Thief) burned the civilian population of Cayuga Nation out of NY. Repair bridges to diverse communities.
Food deserts exist not because of racism but because grocery stores cannot operate in violent communities. This is a fact that is hard for many people to accept. It is much easier to claim racism than to acknowledge what the real causes are. If you don't believe this, look at what happens when there is rioting in a big city. People destroy the stores in their own neighborhoods. How stupid is that?
As a former resident of Baltimore city, I know from experience that for the most part, store owners don't care what the color the customer is as long as they have the money to buy their goods.
Make the communities safe and the stores will come back.
