    Is the pendulum to inversion to prevent being stacked? or is it to get the non-choking leg more tight to the neck?

    • @MastersmokeABUSE
      @MastersmokeABUSE  2 года назад +3

      Both

    • @averylorenzato1
      @averylorenzato1 9 месяцев назад

      Nothing to do with being stacked. If they're pulling their elbow back to prevent omote, they're going the opposite direction of stacking you (generally trying to look up and to the right if its the same sides as this video example).
      If they're flaring their elbow but pushing into you instead of pulling away, they don't have anything to post on and you can roll them forward into finishing mounted omote.
      The inversion is to get the right angle for the hantai. Assuming the same sides as the video, you to go from left knee in armpit to left foot above armpit. The bigger the pendulum the easier this is (just be careful about the collar tie because they'll buck hard to their left as you go for it). In this video GR basically lets the head go out of the loop for the sake of the inversion, which makes it easier for them to get out but also easier to cut the angle.
      If they do get their head out, there are omoplate leg entries here that seem to be effective at high level. The omoplata itself is meh in no gi.
      Lastly, depending on how they're pulling in the trap triangle, I have had a good bit of success throwing a rear triangle for similar looks from here. When they pull back and away sometimes you can use that to just pick your hips up and throw em back n over.

    • @MastersmokeABUSE
      @MastersmokeABUSE  2 года назад +1

      Omoplatta is great for getting the break 20% of the time & the sweep 80%. I think he just favorites the triangle transition bc it still constitutes a "strangle"

      Not if your ambition is to strangle, it's higher %

    • @TheDomLouis
      @TheDomLouis 10 месяцев назад +1

      Gordon always says you should go for the strangles over breaks. People might not tap to breaks, and can keep fighting (especially in competition). But if they don't tap to a properly set up strangle, they are going to sleep.
      Actually with one of the guys in our gym, the guy is ultra flexible and almost impossible to tap with locks. So when I roll with him, I'm always looking for triangles or rear naked strangles or similar as I know he'll tap to those if they're tight.

    • @MastersmokeABUSE
      @MastersmokeABUSE  2 года назад +6

      That's his GF.
      It's a Hantai Senkaku jime, aka a "reverse triangle." Often confused with gyaku sankaku jime or "opposite triangle." (The one you can hit from bottom side control)

    When looking at this I'm concerned the opponent will weave their previously trapped arm back in after inverting to the opposite side (2:25), because the space opens up again to get both arms in. Perhaps I'm missing a detail, can someone elaborate?

    • @MastersmokeABUSE
      @MastersmokeABUSE  2 года назад +1

      I believe he's greatly exaggerating the movement to emphasize the pendulum. Couldn't fathom gordon not pinching his knees when actually trying to finish someone with the sankaku

    • @GetMerked4
      @GetMerked4 2 года назад

      I think most people are gonna lock their hands behind your butt so that you can’t force the trapped arm across their body and finish the regular front triangle, so when the movement happens at full speed it would be difficult for them to react fast enough to get the hand back in

    • @Damin-Danger-Ledford
      @Damin-Danger-Ledford 2 года назад +1

      He has the collar tie to keep the head, and he traps the inside arm against their body with his arm by underhooking the leg nice and tight against that arm. And yes, they pendulum movement is exaggerated just a bit. That's what I see. But I'm not even close to this level. So.

    Obviously a beautiful technique but if these guys true intention was to teach their students would they start speaking a different language all of a sudden therefore forcing people to understand Japanese? Why not just call it what it is in the same language that you started in? I personally would consider that a triangle to reverse triangle why call it a Japanese name?
