If I remember correctly, Gordon Ryan's hand was broken during this match (and also during 2019 ADCC). How broken? I don't know, but it was taped a lot during ADCC. Perhaps broken is an exaggeration (I think), but it was at least in serious pain. I think I heard him on some podcast (perhaps it was Rogan?) say that he couldn't set up the strangle because of that. I do believe him for two reasons. 1) He's had an otherwise flawless record from the back against much more decorated grapplers, 2) I've also had my hand injured and was noticeably less effective at setting up the strangle from the back.

Palhares is a very good grappler, especially for a UFC fighter. Its a shame he uses that advantage to destroy peoples knees
Unfortunately for him, gordon is not just another grappler

Palhares made such nasty and unforgiving moves in his MMA career - not letting go of the submissions he got even after is victims taped multiple times. Shame on him and I hope karma will get him!
