@@ikigai47probably because Palhares knew Gordon wouldn’t take any of that shit. Palhares likely saw Gordon was a big guy, bigger than some of the guys he had faced before, and knew that using the tactic he usually does would only put him in more trouble.

It’s not bad, some good shit happening, but damn, it takes him less than 2 minutes to take the back and the rest of the match he was in zero trouble just attacking until he gets the win. This was never close.
The reason Rousimar did better (and the major failure of GR in this match) is that Gordon didnt grind him down to start. Galvao was exhausted and morally defeated by the time he was submitted. Palhares was fresh and happy at the end.

It's been a long time since I trained but that was my best body triangle defence way back when… I remember always being wary to switch sides the triangle was on when in the dominant position

If I remember correctly, Gordon Ryan's hand was broken during this match (and also during 2019 ADCC). How broken? I don't know, but it was taped a lot during ADCC. Perhaps broken is an exaggeration (I think), but it was at least in serious pain. I think I heard him on some podcast (perhaps it was Rogan?) say that he couldn't set up the strangle because of that. I do believe him for two reasons. 1) He's had an otherwise flawless record from the back against much more decorated grapplers, 2) I've also had my hand injured and was noticeably less effective at setting up the strangle from the back.

Im not really into grappling comming from freestyle wrestling backround. But i think after certain time from a position like 2 minutes or something and nothing happened both should stand up. Aswell the entire game should shift from ground more to the stand up game cause it would be more realistic. what means the best jiu jitsu game when you cant even bring a little girl down. The new game should be like a takedown 4 points when both land on the ground and 2 minute's nothing happen both should go up. You know something like that.

yeah I agree, the rules should give you a few minutes to work & try for a sub, but after 3 minutes or so of not getting a choke, armbar, etc, the ref should break it up. The fans are a big part of how they can afford 2 elite grapplers like that.

Yea I used to think that we would see Gordon go to MMA at some point. Just for selfish reasons I guess but I guess he's making plenty of money just in jui jitsu. Yea obviously he would need to take some time and work on his striking. This is just my opinion but I think if he just got decent at boxing we would be talking about him being the GOAT instead of Jon Jones. When your that good at one particular aspect (grappling). The fights always end up on the ground or at probably 90% of the time anyway.

@@Godmysheperd it's a different game in BJJ. If you did some wrestling at school or college, you have more experience and skills than 95% of hobbyists who started in BJJ. Find somebody who does BJJ for long time, and it will be a different game :)
yeah I agree, the rules should give you a few minutes to work & try for a sub, but after 3 minutes or so of not getting a choke, armbar, etc, the ref should break it up. The fans are a big part of how they can afford 2 elite grapplers like that.
No. Once you tgurn it into Judo, then the ground game goes away. The ground game being the labaratory is what makes BJJ elite on the ground. You're proposing a system that made Judo weaker on the ground.

I appreciate the dedication and skill and knowledge that goes into getting to the level of jiu jitsu these guys have.....but a 15 mins struggle cuddle is a boring thing to watch. Give me judo over jitsu every time. No offence intended to all the jitsu guys but it's just not an interesting watch this one?

Yea I used to think that we would see Gordon go to MMA at some point. Just for selfish reasons I guess but I guess he's making plenty of money just in jui jitsu. Yea obviously he would need to take some time and work on his striking. This is just my opinion but I think if he just got decent at boxing we would be talking about him being the GOAT instead of Jon Jones. When your that good at one particular aspect (grappling). The fights always end up on the ground or at probably 90% of the time anyway.

I have some division one wrestling experience and a brown belt in judo why didnt rousimar attempt a hip pivot to face gordan? Perhaps his lack of flexibility wouldnt allow such an escape attempt.
